Analysis of Large Power System by Small Digital Computer (소형 digital computer를 이용한 대전력계통의 해석)

  • This paper attempts to develop the algorithms and computer program for load flow solution and faults analysis of large power system by small digital computer. The Conventional methods for load flow solution and fault analysis of large power system require too much amount of computer memory space and computing time. Therefore, this paper describes the methad for reducing the computer memory space and computing time as follows. (1) Load Flow Solution; This method is to store each primitive impedance of lines along with a list of bus numbers corresponding to the both terminals of lines, and to store only nonzero element of bus admittance matrix. (2) Faults Analysis: This method is to partition a large power system into several groups of subsystems, form individual bus impedance matrix, store them in the storage, and assemble the only required portion of them to original total system by algorithm.

View-Dependent Adaptive Animation of Liquids

  • Various adaptive mesh refinement techniques are often employed in numerical simulations for increasing spatial and temporal resolution beyond the limits imposed by available CPU time and memory space. Recently, an octree-based adaptive mesh structure was successfully used in fluid animation to place more grid cells efficiently in visually interesting regions of fluids. In an attempt to optimize the use of computational resources further in fluid animation, this paper extends this adaptive technique by modifying the mesh refinement scheme so that the camera's viewing properties are dynamically exploited during the simulation. Based on a simple adaptive mesh structure, we show that the new meshing strategy can save a substantial amount of computation time and memory space by using a view-dependent adaptive approach. The experimental results reveal that the proposed technique provides a good compromise between the computational effort and the simulation's fidelity, and may be used quite effectively in 3D animation production.

  • Q-learning, based on discrete state and action space, is a most widely used reinforcement Learning. However, this requires a lot of memory and much time for learning all actions of each state when it is applied to a real mobile robot navigation using continuous state and action space Region-based Q-learning is a reinforcement learning method that estimates action values of real state by using triangular-type action distribution model and relationship with its neighboring state which was defined and learned before. This paper proposes a new Region-based Q-learning which uses a reward assigned only when the agent reached the target, and get out of the Local optimal path with adjustment of random action rate. If this is applied to mobile robot navigation, less memory can be used and robot can move smoothly, and optimal solution can be learned fast. To show the validity of our method, computer simulations are illusrated.

  • 2D sliced CT images hardly express the human disease in a space. This space expression can be reconstructed into 3D image by piling up the CT sliced image in succession. In medical image, in order to get the reconstructed 3D images, expensive system or much calculation time is needed. But by changing the method of reconstruction procedure and limit the range, the reconstruction time could be reduced. In this study, to reduce the processing time and memory, we suggested a method of interpolation and ray casting processing at the same time in a limited range. Such a limited range processing have advantages that we could reduce the unnecessary interpolation and ray casting. Through a experiment, it is founded that the reconstruction time and the memory was much reduced.

  • On-Orbit상에서 인공위성의 탑재소프트웨어를 교정하는 경우는 크게 위성의 하드웨어 문제를 소프트웨어적으로 해결/완화, 임무 중 소프트웨어 기능 향상 그리고 지상테스트 동안 확인되지 못한 소프트웨어 문제를 수정하기 위해서 사용된다. 탑재소프트웨어 설계과정에서 이러한 요구조건을 만족할 수 있도록 탑재소프트웨어가 설계되어야 하며 소프트웨어 교정을 위한 잉여 메모리를 반드시 할당해야 한다. 또한, 탑재소프트웨어 실행파일 생성할 경우에도 각 섹션별로 패치가 가능하도록 메모리 맵을 생성해야한다. 기존 저궤도 위성에서는 휘발성 메모리인 RAM 영역에 한해서만 탑재소프트웨어 교정이 가능하였으나 현재 개발 중인 차세대 저궤도 위성에서는 비휘발성 메모리 영역 즉 SGM(Safe Guard Memory)와 NVMEM(Non-Volatile Memory)을 이용하여 탑재소프트웨어를 교정할 수 있는 방식을 제공하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 차세대 저궤도 위성의 탑재소프트웨어의 실시간 교정을 위한 탑재소프트웨어 아키텍처와 제한 사항에 대해서 설명하며 실제 탑재소프트웨어를 교정 하는 방안 과 절차에 대하여 설명한다.

Problem Analysis and Recommendations of Memory Contents in High School Informatics Textbooks (고등학교 정보 교과서에 제시된 기억 장치 영역 내용의 문제점 분석 및 개선 방안)

  • One of the major goals in high school Informatics is for students to develop creative problem-solving abilities based on knowledge on computer science. Thus, the contents of the textbooks should be accurate and appropriate. However, we discovered that the current Informatics textbooks contain the untrue and/or inappropriate descriptions of main memory and virtual memory. The textbooks describe that main memory is composed of RAM and ROM. The virtual memory is described as a technique in which a part of the secondary storage is utilized as main memory to execute an application of which size is larger than that of main memory. In this study, we attempted to uncover the root causes of the fallacies, and suggest the accurate explanations by comparing with renowned books adopted in most schools worldwide including USA. Our study reveals that it is inappropriate to include ROM in main memory from the memory hierarchy perspective. Virtual memory is a technique that provides convenience to programmers, through which an operating system loads the necessary portion of a program from secondary storage to main memory. As for the advantages of virtual memory in the current computer systems, the focus should be on providing the effective multitasking capability, rather than on executing a larger program than the size of main memory. We suggest that it is appropriate to exclude virtual memory in textbooks considering its complexity.

Operating Characteristics of Amorphous GeSe-based Resistive Random Access Memory at Metal-Insulator-Silicon Structure (금속-절연층-실리콘 구조에서의 비정질 GeSe 기반 Resistive Random Access Memory의 동작 특성)

  • The resistive memory switching characteristics of resistive random access memory (ReRAM) using the amorphous GeSe thin film have been demonstrated at Al/Ti/GeSe/$n^+$ poly Si structure. This ReRAM indicated bipolar resistive memory switching characteristics. The generation and the recombination of chalcogen cations and anions were suitable to explain the bipolar switching operation. Space charge limited current (SCLC) model and Poole-Frenkel emission is applied to explain the formation of conductive filament in the amorphous GeSe thin film. The results showed characteristics of stable switching and excellent reliability. Through the annealing condition of $400^{\circ}C$, the possibility of low temperature process was established. Very low operation current level (set current: ~ ${\mu}A$, reset current: ~ nA) was showed the possibility of low power consumption. Particularly, $n^+$ poly Si based GeSe ReRAM could be applied directly to thin film transistor (TFT).

  • 개인용 노트북, 태블릿 PC, 핸드폰 기술 발전에 의해 언제 어디서나 데이터를 작성하고 기록하는 일들이 가능해졌다. 특히 cloud 시스템을 이용하여 데이터를 휴대기기에 직접 저장하지 않고 server에 기록하는 일들이 가능해짐에 따라 server 기기의 성능, server-room power 및 space 에 대한 관심이 증가하였다. Storage class memory (SCM) 이란 memory device와 storage device의 장점을 결합한 memory를 일컫는 기술로 현재 소형 디바이스 부분부터 점차 그 영역을 넓히고 있다. 그중 phase change material을 이용한 phase change memory (PCM) 기술이 가장 각광받고 있다. PCM의 경우 scaling됨에 의해 cell간의 열 간섭으로 인한 data 손실의 우려가 있어 cell의 면적을 최소화 하여 소자를 제작하여야 한다. 기존의 sputtering등의 PVD 방법으로는 한계가 있어 ALD 공정을 이용한 PCM에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행중이다. 특히 tellurium 원료기체로 silyl 화합물 [1]을 사용하여 주로 $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$의 조성에 초점을 맞춰 진행되고 있으나, 세부 공정에 대한 기본적인 연구는 미비하다. 본 연구에서는 Ge-Sb-Te 3원계 박막을 형성하기 위한 Sb-Te 화합물의 증착 공정에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 특히 원료기체로 Si이 없는 새로운 Te 원료기체를 이용하여 조성 조절을 하였고, 박막의 물성을 분석하였다. 또한 공정온도에 따른 박막의 물성 변화를 분석하였다.

A Garbage Collection Method for Flash Memory Based on Block-level Buffer Management Policy

  • Flash memory has become the most important storage media in mobile devices along with its attractive features such as low power consumption, small size, light weight, and shock resistance. However, a flash memory can not be written before erased because of its erase-before-write characteristic, which lead to some garbage collection when there is not enough space to use. In this paper, we propose a novel garbage collection scheme, called block-level buffer garbage collection. When it is need to do merge operation during garbage collection, the proposed scheme does not merge the data block and corresponding log block but also search the block-level buffer to find the corresponding block which will be written to flash memory in the next future, and then decide whether merge it in advance or not. Our experimental results show that the proposed technique improves the flash performance up to 4.6% by reducing the unnecessary block erase numbers and page copy numbers.

  • Many people is studying the embedded system. The embedded system becomes a small size device. The DOM memory is using in the mobile device and small site devices. This paper proposes light-weighted Linux O.S that is running onto the DOM memory. The embedded system with the DOM must have a light-weigthed O.S due to the memory space restriction. This paper designs light-weigthed Linux O.S for the DOM memory. The new designed LILO boot loader boots the new designed light-weigthed Linux O.S as a normal Linux O.S. This paper experiments comparing the designed new light-weigthed Linux O.S with a Linux PC.
