This research defines Pope Francis's visit to Korea in August 2014 and the reactions from journalism to it as a case to show the discursive potential of mediated religion for social change. It analyzes the editorials and the columns on the Pope in five daily newspapers including the Chosunilbo, the Dong-A Ilbo, the Joongang Daily, the Hankyoreh, and the Kyunghyang Shinmun. Since the Pope receives positive evaluations for his remarks and behaviors during the visit from most of those articles, this research categorizes the values identified with the Pope and those with the "anti-Pope" into a form of binary oppositions, and interpret the meanings of the rhetorical strategies. The findings suggest that a consistent narrative is constructed by journalism regarding the harsh reality of Korea and the ways to overcome its structural problems. Based on the findings, I argue that mediated religion in this case is expected by the secular society to do its role for social change by being a provider of progressive and alternative values.
This paper reports on an ongoing study that utilizes the literacy autobiographies of 10 Asian and 10 Western graduate students from TESOL Masters programs in Korea and America as data for a cross cultural study on the discursive process of identity formation and the development of critical consciousness (Freire, 2000). While the data suggests similarities and differences between cultures in terms of the effects of education, social relationships, media, and religion, no definitive claims may be made due to the small size of the research corpus. However, analysis of the data revealed that only four of the narratives could be judged as engaging in critical introspection of individual subjects systems of knowledge, values, and beliefs, as opposed to the other narratives that were primarily descriptive of individual personal experiences. As such, this study found that while the willingness and ability to engage in the critical practices which lead to the development of a critical consciousness are similar across cultures, they may be mediated by the literacy practices inscribed in education, media, and other social practices.
This study analyzed 4,284 elderly people aged 65 or older by SPSS 22.0 in the 7th data of 「2018 Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing(KLoSA)」 to confirm the effect of the health-promoting behavior of the elderly on life satisfaction through cognitive function. The cognitive function level of the subjects was 13.8% doubtful about dementia, 23.8% cognitive decline, and 62.4% normal, and the satisfaction level of life was 59.304 points. The results of the study were as follows: First, the difference in cognitive function according to demographic characteristics was significant in gender, age, education, religion, and marriage factors. Second, the satisfaction of the elderly's life according to demographic characteristics was confirmed to have significant differences in gender, age, education, religion, and marriage factors. Third, the satisfaction of the elderly's life was significantly positive in drinking and regular exercise factors among independent variable the health-promoting behavior when cognitive function was mediated. On the other hand, The significant negative effect of the restriction of daily life activities was confirmed. In this way, the mediating effect of cognitive function was verified in the effect of the health-promoting behavior on the satisfaction of the elderly life.

This research was carried out by T-test and ANOVA to identify the difference of donation attitude according to general characteristics and by correlation analysis of main variables. Also hierarchical regression analysis was performed to identify the mediating effect and it was verified by Sobel test. The main results are as follows. First, donation attitudes differed according to gender, school level, and religion. Second, correlation analysis revealed a positive correlation between self-esteem, donation motivation and donation attitude. A total of 200 participants in the study were collected from structured questionnaire online and the data collection was from July $1^{st}$ to July $31^{st}$, 2018. Health control behavior questionnaire was developed by Wallston, K.A., Wallston, B.S. & Devellis, R (1978), Emotional happiness was analyzed by using PANAS (positive and negative affect schedule) developed by Watson, Clark and Tellegen (1988). The collected data were chai-square($X^2$), Pearson correlation, Dummy regression analysis, simple regression analysis, and the mediated effect analysis by SPSS 18.0. As a result, Under statistical significance, there were differences in the recognition of pregnancy necessity were depending on religion, participant's age, number of siblings, thought of optimal marriage age(p<0.05). More siblings, more religious, older age, and more recognized the pregnancy necessity. The analysis of Pearson correlation with the pregnancy necessity, health control behavior, and emotional happiness reveled that it was relevant (p<0.01). Dummy regression analysis showed that people who thought that pregnancy was necessary were 0.700 times more likely to felt emotional happiness that people who thought it was unnecessary (p<0.01). Analysis on the mediation of health control behavior, in which the effects of pregnancy recognition on emotional happiness, showed that it was effect (other people's health control behavior: B:.299, p<0.01, internal health control behavior : B:.217, p<0.05). Based on these results, this study suggested that to promote pregnancy recognition, families with brother and sister should be programmed with recommendations for exercise and alcohol abstinence, religious belief and health control programs.
Purpose: This study was done to examine differences in mammography screening according to breast cancer and social network characteristic. Methods: Data were collected from 187 married women 35 years and older who were using public health centers, health promotion centers, cultural centers, obstetrics and gynecology hospitals or other relevant community sites. Data were collected between October 24 and December 4, 2008. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 15.0 program. Results: The participation rate for mammography screening was 35.3%. The following general and breast cancer characteristics showed statistically significant differences: religion, family incomes, regular medical-care, general health examinations during past 2 years, and history of breast disease. The following social network characteristics showed statistically significant differences: social norms and subjective norms. Using logistic regression analysis, regular medical-care, breast cancer risk appraisal, social norm, and subjective norms were highly predictive of subsequent mammography. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that it is important to develop and provide tailored intervention programs through integrated socially mediated programs. By consciously including social network and support systems, breast cancer detection efforts would not end as a one-time event, but naturally build on network structure of adults women, thus facilitating regular mammography screening.

This study was conducted to identify the factors related to the patient demographics and smoking factors on smoking cessation success and maintenance of subjects at the 6th and 12th week at a public hospital. This study utilized secondary data collected through the smoking cessation program of the 2014 public health care program, which is mediated for 6 weeks and checked for maintenance on the 12th week. The data were analyzed by the chi-square test, t-test and logistic regression analysis. There were 90 subjects in total, 85 men (94.45%) and 5 women (5.55%). The smoking success group and smoking failure group showed significant differences in family type (${\chi}^2=4.496$, p=0.037), education (${\chi}^2=12.253$, p=0.002), smoking amount per day before program (t=-2.906, p=0.005), and nicotine dependence before program (t=-3.081, p=0.003) after 6 weeks. Factors influencing smoking cessation success were religion (OR=3.719, 95% CI=1.076-12.859) and nicotine dependence before program (OR=0.713, 95% CI=0.520-0.976). Factors influencing smoking cessation maintenance were family type (OR=0.017, 95% CI=0.001-0.507) and no-smoking willingness (OR=2.062, 95% CI=1.059-4.015). For smoking cessation to be successful and sustainable, it is necessary to develop programs specific for the characteristics of the subjects; accordingly, continuous research and support are needed.
