이러닝시스템의 매체풍부성, 매체유용성, 매체경험이 학습자 만족에 미치는 영향 (The Impacts of Media Richness, Media Usefulness, and Media Experience on the Leaner's Satisfaction with e-Learning Systems)

  • In an effort to apply IT to practices of learning, universities are trying to implement e-Learning systems and expanding the extent of their usage. Nowadays, e-Learning systems are not only used for conducting web-based distance learning, but also used for supporting traditional classes education by encouraging communication and information sharing between instructors and learners or among the learners. There is relatively lack of studies on the exploitation of e-Learning systems in the traditional classes, in comparison with a distance education. Specifically, howe-Learning systems could support the traditional class and/or which benefits e-Learning systems could offer in the classes are among the important issues. In this study, we suggest that e-Learning systems would be the rich media to communicate and exchange information among people who participate in a class. We derive key variables like media richness and media experience from Media Richness Theory and from Channel Expansion Theory. Moreover, Media usefulness and Satisfaction of a learner with e-Learning system is drawn from the literature on IS success. We examine the effects of perceived media richness, media usefulness, and media experience on leaner's satisfaction with e-Learning systems. In addition, we also investigate learner's media usefulness perception which is positively related to media richness and media experience. Finally, learner's experience with e-Learning systems affects perceived media richness. Based on the results of an empirical test. we first suggest that perceived media richness with e-Learning systems contributes to increase media usefulness and satisfaction of a learner. Second, media experience is an important predictor of media richness and media usefulness perception. Consequently, the result can support Channel Expansion Theory. Finally, media usefulness perception affects learner's satisfaction with e-Learning systems.

  • Computer-mediated communication(CMC) media has various forms through the technical improvements of computer and network, and CMCs communication methods are also comparative free rather than any other existing media without the limitation of time and space. Various CMC media were adopted by a lot of organizations for their communication tool. Thus, it is important to understand relationships of affecting factors to user's communication satisfaction for choosing the effective CMC media in their organizations. In this paper, we identify factors that may affect the communication satisfaction of users that has utilized the CMC media, and validate empirically the relationships between the identified factors in KOPTI. In the research model developed and described herein, perceived media richness was significantly associated with communication satisfaction and perceived usefulness was significantly associated with perceived media richness. Furthermore, perceived ease of use was significantly associated with perceived usefulness.

교수자 요인과 매체풍부성이 원격교육 학습자의 이용의도와 학습성과에 미치는 영향 (Instructor Factors and Media Richness Affecting Distance Learning Student's Intention to Use and Performance)

  • Distance teaming systems have become popular tools for teaching and learning. The purpose of this study is to analyze influence of instructor factors and media richness on student's intention th use and performance in distance teaming. We used TAM as a theoretical foundation to explain student's behavior. The model was tested using LISREL analysis on the sample of 246 users rho have experience with the distance teaming systems. The results show that instructor factors such as luぉ style and attitude have partial effects on perceived usefulness, ease of use and media richness. In addition, results also show that both TAM variables and media richness strongly predict intention In use of the distance loaming system Finally, the usage intention has a positive effect on teaming performance. Implications of these findings are discussed for researchers and practitioners.

  • Among several theories to explain how different communication media affect task performance, media richness theory(MRT) is one of the most frequently cited. Recent studies related to the use of communication media, however, have raised the question of the effectiveness of the MRT as a predictor of media choices or of individual effectiveness. The objective of this research is to examine the assumptions of the MRT. MRT proposes that the properties of media are objective in other words, they are inherent and physical attributes recognizable by users. This study experiments on the effects of task characteristics and medium experience on the perceived media richness and social presence. The results of this study did not support the assumptions of the MRT. There was an interaction effects of task characteristics and medium experience on both the perceived media richness and social presence. While the inexperienced computer-mediated communication(CMC) group perceives their medium richer for the unequivocal task, the experienced CMC group perceives their medium equally for the equivocal and the unequivocal task.

매체 풍요도, 사회적 존재감 및 생활 만족도가 상대적 박탈감을 통해 SNS 이용자의 이용 지속 의도 또는 이탈 의도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Media Richness, Social Presence, and Life Satisfaction on Continuance Usage Intention or Withdrawal Intention of SNS Users via Relative Deprivation)

  • Purpose - This study aims to empirically verify the impact of media richness, social presence, and prior life satisfaction on various continual usage or withdrawal behaviors of SNS users via both a positive path of satisfaction and a negative path of relative deprivation. By identifying these causal paths, we observe dynamic interactions of SNS user psychology in a balanced view, and provide some implications about design principles for SNS providers. Research design, data, and methodology - We developed 16 hypothesis based on media richness theory, social presence theory, social comparison theory, the literature about relative deprivation, and the literature about the various reactions of IS users. The rich SNS media, social presence recognition among peer SNS users, and prior life satisfaction could generate positive experience, attitude, and virtuous behavioral intentions among SNS users. At the same time, rich media, low social presence, and low prior life satisfaction could generate relative deprivation and could increase withdrawal behavioral intentions such as refusal to provide information, misrepresentation of information, and removal of uploaded information in SNS. Scenario surveys were conducted to collect data from potential SNS users. Data from 357 surveys were collected and analyzed through a PLS algorithm to test the hypotheses. Results - Media richness, social presence, and prior life satisfaction could significantly increase perceived enjoyment, satisfaction, and behavioral intention of continual usage and knowledge sharing. They also could significantly decrease refusal and misrepresentation intention. Relative deprivation is significantly decreased only by prior life satisfaction. Relative deprivation could not significantly decrease satisfaction, but it could significantly increase misrepresentation and removal intention, which could be regarded as information distortion intention. Conclusions - SNS providers should focus on developing rich media and social presence support because these two variables could impact the positive experiences of SNS users. Moreover, the positive experiences could heavily influence SNS user behavior. Some management is needed to prevent relative deprivation and its consequences of misrepresentation and removal intention. SNS providers should prevent SNS users from excessive image misrepresentation and removal as this information distortion could be the source of relative deprivation.

텍스트매체 사용에 있어서 매체 경험이 매체 인지와 의사소통과정에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Medium Experience on Medium Perception and Communication Process)

  • The objective of this study is to examine the media richness theory and the social information processing model by analyzing the effect of media experience on media perception and communication process. To accomplish this objective, a laboratory experiment was conducted. The independent variable was text medium experience and a face-to-face medium was added as a control group. The dependent variables were medium perception and communication process. Medium perception includes perceived richness, medium feeling, task satisfaction, and communication satisfaction. Communication processes were also analyzed to compare each treatment group. The results can be summarized into two facts. First, face-to-face group showed higher perceived richness than text medium group. And experienced text medium group perceived their text medium richer than inexperienced text medium group. Second, experienced text medium groups showed more interactions between subjects than inexperienced text medium group. Experienced text medium group also showed more agreements and meta-communication which could be found in face-to-face group. The result of this study supported media richness theory by finding that face-to-face medium was perceived richer than text medium, And the results also proved social information processing model by comparing experienced text medium group and inexperienced text medium group. The text medium, although thought to be the leanest one, could be perceived richer if users had lots of experience on it.

매체통합 고전문학수업에서 매체풍부성과 매체경험이 매체유용성과 학습몰입에 미치는 영향 연구 (A Study of the Influence of Medium Richness and Learner's Experience with Various Mediums on the Usefulness of Mediums and Learning Commitment in Integrated Media Korean Classical Education)

  • 본 연구는 창의인재교육 관점에서 고전문학수업에서 매체통합교육에 있어 매체풍부성과 매체경험이 매체유용성과 학습몰입과 어떤 상관성이 있는지 살펴본 것이다. 이를 위해 전국 234개 시군구의 향토문화 자료를 집대성하고 이를 디지털화하여 서비스하는 웹매체인 한국향토문화전자대전(www.grandculture.net)(향토DB)를 활용한 수업을 받은 418명의 고등학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 가설 설정, 타당도 검증, 인과모형을 도출하여 구조방정식을 분석한 결과, 향토DB의 매체풍부성과 학습자의 매체경험은 학습몰입에 주요한 영향임을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 매체풍부성과 학습자의 매체유용성을 매개한 간접효과도 통계적으로 유의하였다. 따라서 향토DB와 같은 전국의 시군구 자료를 집대성한 웹매체의 적극적 발굴과 고전문학수업에서의 활용이 창의인재교육을 위한 매체통합교육에 유용함을 확인할 수 있었다.

대학의 교실수업에서 이러닝시스템 이용의 활성화에 관한 연구: 사회적, 기술적, 개인적 특성 (A Study on the Factors to Increase the Usage of e-Learning Systems in Class-based Education: Social, Technological, and Personal Factors)

  • Universities have recognized e-Learning Systems as the critical IT resources which contribute to improving the competitiveness of the universities as well as the quality of the traditional class-based lectures. Instructors deliver the main contents in the class. Other supplementary activities like online discussions, sharing of teaching-learning materials, submission of homeworks, communication among the learners and between the instructors and the learners, and so on can be efficiently facilitated using e-Learning Systems. In other words, e-Learning Systems enable a blended learning combined class-based lectures and e-learning in a variety of ways. Nonetheless, compared to the level of implementation of e-Learning Systems, the usage of both the instructors and the learners is not high. Accordingly, this study examines the determinants to affect on the usage of e-Learning Systems from the learners perspective. To draw the key determinants, we review the IS literatures related to adoption or use of the IS like Media Richness Theory (MRT), Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Social Influence Model (SIM), and Self-efficacy Model. The variables are drawn out to be expected on the usage of e-Learning like Media Richness, Ease of Use from MRT, TAM and Instructor's Influence, Co-learner's Influence from SIM, and Self-efficacy. To test our model and hypotheses, we have collected data in the class-based lectures using e-Learning System complementary. The results of the test with 192 data are as follows: Firstly, it shows that the Instructor's Influence and the Media Richness are the influential determinants to affect on the Perception of Usefulness of e-Learning Systems. Additionally, the Co-learner's Influence and Ease of Use in order is significant to the Perception of Usefulness. Secondly, as to the degree of use of the e-Learning Systems, the Co-leaner's Influence, the Media Richness, and the Ease of Use are, in that order, the significant determinants. The Perception of Usefulness, also, founded a key factor on increasing the use of e-Learning Systems. On the other hand, the Instructor's Influence is not significant to the use of e-Learning Systems. Finally, it has been found that Self-efficacy is significant to the Perception of Media Richness, Ease of Use, but not significant to the Perception of Usefulness.

  • 인터넷의 웹페이지는 다양한 형태로 존재하지만, 크게 텍스트 중심의 웹페이지, 텍스트와 이미지로 구성된 웹페이지, 그리고 텍스트와 동영상으로 구성된 웹페이지로 구분할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 콘텐츠 제작방식에 따라서 변하는 소비자들의 지각된 위험 수준과 미디어 풍부성이 미치는 영향을 분석하며, 이들 요인이 고객만족에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 분석결과, 텍스트 형식의 웹페이지가 텍스트와 이미지 혹은 동영상으로 구성된 웹페이지에 비해서 지각된 위험 중 성능위험, 심리적 위험, 시간 위험 등으로 구성된 개인적 위험을 더 크게 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 미디어 풍부성 측면에서는 텍스트와 이미지 혹은 동영상으로 구성된 웹페이지가 텍스트 위주의 웹페이지에 비해서 상징성 및 사회적 실재감이 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 그리고 개인적 위험 및 텍스트 형식의 웹페이지는 고객 만족에 음의 영향을 미치며, 상징성 및 사회적 실재감은 양의 효과를 가진다. 본 연구는 지각된 위험과 미디어 풍부성의 개념을 콘텐츠 제작방식과 연결시킴으로써 기대와는 달리 동영상 콘텐츠가 폭발적으로 성장하지 못한 점에 대해서 규명한데 의의를 둔다.

에너지·친환경 기업들의 소셜미디어 브랜드 게시글 성공요인 분석 (Brand-Post Factors Affecting the Social Media Success : Case of Energy/Eco-Friendly Company Brands in Facebook)

  • Domestic and international energy and eco-friendly companies take advantage of social media for image enhancement and product promotion. However, there were no in-depth empirical analysis to verify specific effectiveness of social media use in these sectors. The purpose of this study is to reveal the key factors that are considered to use social media effectively for energy and eco-friendly companies. For this purpose, we regarded the effectiveness of social media as Post Awareness and Word of Mouth. Characteristics of social media as a medium were measured separately, media richness and media genre, as independent variables of social media effectiveness. We investigated 413 posts in Facebook brand page of energy and eco-friendly companies and conducted a content analysis. As a result, post awareness of users was greater when post has richer media such as video. For media genre, word of mouth appeared to be greater when the posts provide information.
