  • Groupware is a new emerging research field, involving increasing numbers of institutions in the USA, Europe, and Asia such as Korea and Japan, etc., as an interdisciplinary research and development area with a strong computer science component. It grew from fairly unsystematic attempts by various developers to generate software that would increase the competence of people working together. This in turn was partly a response to: failures of and problems inherited from Office Automation and Management Information System ; some sociological intuitions about ways people might work together; and a search for uses of new interfacing, networking, and multi-media technologies. In this paper, groupware that has been configured to meet the needs of groups at work is defined as computer-based systems which support working groups of people engaged in common task in a shared environment. The basic concepts, origin, and historic research of the groupware are described. Specially, groupware relies on the approaches and contributions of many disciplines in computer science as well as sociology that is concerning human, social, and cultural activities. So, nine key disciplines of them upon which successful groupware depends are described briefly. Some state-of-the-art implementations and developments are reviewed through classifying and analyzing the current available groupware applications in the field or market.

  • Porcine fibroblasts were transferred into enucleated bovine oocytes for the interspecies nuclear transfer (NT). After NT, the embryos were cultured in three different culture systems. The media used for the experiment were CR1aa and NCSU23. The culture systems used for the experiment were: 1. Culture in CR1aa for 7 days (CR). 2. Culture in CR1aa for 2 days and subsequently in NCSU23 for 5 days (CR-NC). 3. Culture in NCSU23 for 7 days (NC). Bovine (intraspecies) NT group was used as a control. The oocytes in bovine NT group were treated the same as interspecies NT embryos except using bovine fibroblasts as nuclear donors. Regardless of their nuclear origin (interspecies vs bovine), the embryos in CR (68.4% vs 77.2%) and CR-NC (67.8% vs 70.5%) showed better developmental competence to the 2-cell stage (p<0.05) than those in NC (41.0% vs 10.0%). Bovine NT embryos in CR-NC did not develop over the 4-cell stage after the medium replacement, while interspecies NT embryos in CR-NC continued to develop and could reach over the 8-cell stage (12.2%). Blastocysts were only found in bovine NT group (17.4%), but no blastocyst was found in interspecies NT group. This study suggests that the development of interspecies NT embryos mostly depends on their recipient cytoplasm during the culture in vitro.

  • This study attempted to obtain implications for digital education policy by reviewing the Framework Acts and Enforcement Decrees related to digital education. To this end, the following were explored. First, the concept and components of digital competency were reviewed. Second, the Framework Acts and Enforcement Decrees related to digital education policy were reviewed using the above concepts. Third, the characteristics and implications of the Framework Acts and Enforcement Decrees for digital education were explored. The results are as follows: Korea's digital education policy tried to reflect the categories that digital competency must cover, even its function and dysfunction role. However, to achieve their purpose, it is necessary to maintain consistency with related laws or policies. We identified that amendments to the Basic Act and related articles are essential to effectively enforce the Digital-Based Distance Education Activation Basic Act. A reevaluation of the correlation between Article 10, emphasizing digital media literacy education, and Article 5 of the enforcement decree is necessary. Revision of the enforcement decree to align with Article 10's objectives is vital to ensure proactive measures for promoting digital literacy and competence as mandated by the Basic Act.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand a variety of intervention studies to prevent smoking by adolescents in U.S. and find out implications for Korea. Methods: This study reviewed articles found in the internet and analysed the data of US DHHS and CDC. Results: The School Health Policies and Programs Study (SHPPS) is a national survey periodically conducted to assess school health policies and programs of U.S. The main components of SHPPS are health education and physical education, health services, mental health and social services, school policies, and school environments. The CDC guidelines for school health programs to prevent tobacco use and addiction are composed of policy, instruction, curriculum, training, family involvement, tobacco-use cessation efforts, and evaluation. School-based interventions to prevent smoking can be classified into the categories of information-giving curricula, social competence curricula, social influence approaches, combined methods draw on social competence and social influence approaches and multi-modal programmes and Youth Empowerment study. The key programs for adolescent smoking prevention are ALERT Project, HSPP, TNT Project, MPP, NC YES. Conclusions: As smoking is often the first step of unhealthy behaviour such as alcohol drinking, illegal drugs, and violence, smoking prevention programmes for adolescents in U.S. have been comprehensive school-based health programs. In smoking prevention programs for adolescents, CDC plays a critical role by supporting survey, research, policy, and funds. The effectiveness of the programs was high when it was based on school and involved parents, community, and mass media. As the effect of each programme is not expected to last for a long time, consistent repetition of these interventions is essential. Current smoking prevention programs for adolescents are exploring the empowerment approach focused on the active involvement of participants rather than traditional approaches using order and discipline.

  • Embryos produced with serum show the alterations in their ultrastructure, impaired compaction, abnormal blastulation, aberrant mRNA expression profiles and large calf syndrome with greater incidences of stillbirths and deaths after birth. The aim of the present study was to describe in vitro embryo production by analyzing embryo production, fetal production and pregnancy rate in free-serum medium. The OPU-IVP data used in this study from 2016. Approximately, sixteen cows (Hanwoo), which belonged to the Institute of Gyeongsang National University, were used. Two experimental group is used in this study. Serum groups were conducted in March to July and free-serum group was conducted in September to December. The recovered cumulus-oocyte complexes were morphologically classified to four grades based on the compaction of cumulus cells layers and homogeneity of the cytoplasm. The number of oocyte was significantly greater in serum groups than that in free-serum groups (29.61 ± 0.63 vs. 15.6 ± 0.62; p < 0.05). Between serum and free-serum groups indicate that average of 1st and 2nd grade oocytes were no difference (2.38 ± 1.67 vs. 2.38 ± 1.48; p > 0.05), but number of 3rd and 4th grade oocytes were greater in serum groups than that in free-serum groups (7.31 ± 7.64 vs. 5.60 ± 6.29; p < 0.05). Embryo cleaved competence was higher in rate in free-serum groups than that in serum groups (62.1% vs. 58.3; p < 0.05). However, blastocyst developmental rate was no difference between serum and free-serum groups (33.1% vs. 43.5%; p < 0.05). 986 recipients were used for embryo transfer. Pregnancy rate was indicated that between serum and free-serum group was no difference (54.6% vs. 56.3%; p < 0.05). In conclusion, we developed the free-serum system for production of in vitro bovine embryos in order to meet the developmental and qualitative requirements for large scale commercial use.

  • The present study carried out to determine the developmental capacity of bovine oocytes matured in epidermal growth factor(EGF)-containing medium, the developmental competence of bovine embryos using synthetic oviduct fluid(SOF) and the effect of glucose on the development of bovine embryos. In experiment 1, oocytes, obtained from abattoir ovaries, were matured in EGF-containing medium for 24 hours, followed by exposure to Korean native cattle spermatozoa for 18 hours and cultured by utilizing co-culture system with bovine oviduct epithelial cells(BOEC) in TCM199. In experiment 2, early bovine embryos were cultured in SOF with or without BOEC and compared with those in TCM199 with BOEC. In experiment 3, bovine embryos were cultured in the presence or absence of glucose. Seven and ten days after in vitro fertilization, developmental competence of embryos were evaluated. The rate of cleavage was significantly(P<0.05) higher in EGF-containing maturation medium(70.0%) than in control(57.7%). The rates of development to morulae and blastocysts were 30.6% and 23.3% there was no significant difference between them. The rates of in vitro fertilized embryos to morulae and blastocysts cultured in SOF with BOEC(30.4%) and in TCM199 with BOEC(38.0%) were significantly(P<0.01) higher than cultured in SOF without BOEC(13.4%) at seven days after in vitro fertilization. The rates of embryos to blastocysts cultured in SOF with BOEC(29.4%) and in TCM199 with BOEC(35.9%) were significantly(P<0.05) higher than cultured in SOF without BOEC(13.4%) at ten days after in vitro fertilization. The rates of early embryos to morulae and blastocysts cultured in the presence or absence of glucose were 12.2% and 17.5% each other, there was no significant difference between them. The results show that bovine oocytes matured in the presence of EGF can cleave better, SOF with BOEC can replace serum containing complex media, TCM199 with BOEC in bovine embryo culture and glucose have little effect on the culture of early bovine embryos.
