Piezoelectric underwater acoustic transducer is a kind of device for underwater detection working as not only an actuator but also a sensor. The technique that can predict acoustical characteristics of transducer is important for robust design of transducer in harsh underwater environment. This paper represents the dynamic analysis of piezoelectric acoustic transducers based on finite element method through USAP software. Two dimensional model of Tonpilz transducer and three dimensional model of Flextensional transducer are generated for the dynamic analysis and some results obtained by USAP are compared with those by ANSYS.
Three-dimensional ultrasound imaging is a new, exciting technology that allows physicians to use ultrasound to view pathology as a volume, thereby enhancing comprehension of patient anatomy. In this paper, a brief history of the 3-D ultrasound imaging is described in accordance with the development of transducer technology. Then, two representative types of 3-D imaging transducers are reviewed with description of the concept and operation principle of each type: mechanical transducer and matrix array transducer. The mechanical transducer is detailed into free-hand scanning and sequential scanning types. Advantages of each transducer over the other and the technical issues for further performance enhancement are also presented.

The paper provides a comprehensive procedure for the mechanical and magnetic design of Langevin transducer based on giant magnetostrictive material. The the transducer is designed to work at its second mode of vibration, having high mechanical quality factor and low damping coefficient. The design procedure is based on an analytical model and it is verified by finite-element analysis. Experimental tests based on impedance response analysis in first and second modes are carried out on the prototype. Results confirm the appropriate design of this transducer, demonstrating the highest mechanical quality factor between the resonant transducers in the literature.

The Tonpilz transducer is one of the essential elements in active sonar application. The characteristics of transducer depend on the piezoelectric ceramics and mechanical elements such as head mass, tail mass, pre-stress rod and so on. One of the important characteristics is electric and mechanical stability of transducer for long term high power transmitting operation. This parer presents the results about long term endurance tests of the underwater acoustic transducer.

Ultrasonic nonlinearity has been considered as a promising method to evaluate the micro damage of material; however, its magnitude is so small that its measurement is not easy. Especially, when we use contact PZT transducer, if the contacting pressure is not kept in constant during the measurement then there exists extraneous fluctuation in the measured nonlinearity caused by the unstable contact condition, In this paper, we developed a pneumatic control system to keep the contacting pressure of transducer in constant during the measurement and analyzed the effect of contacting pressure to the ultrasonic nonlinearity measurement As a result, we found that the pressure of transducer in our measurement system should be greater than 170 kPa to measure the ultrasonic nonlinear parameter in stable with no dependency on the contacting pressure.
In this study, in order to improve the implantable bone conduction transducer of the prototype proposed by Shin et al., the effect of the element parameters of the transducer on the frequency characteristics was analyzed using electromagnetic and mechanical vibration analysis. Electromagnetic analysis was performed on the size of the permanent magnet and the distance between the metal plate and the coil to derive an optimal structure that generates the maximum Lorentz force. In addition, mechanical vibration analysis was performed on the cantilever structure of the vibrational membrane in order to minimize the distortion of the transducer and to have a frequency characteristic suitable for conductive hearing loss compensation. The frequency characteristics of the transducer of the optimal structure derived through finite element method were compared with the simulation results of the previous transducer. As a result, the output magnitude (displacement) of the transducer designed with the optimal structure generated an average 8.8 times higher than the previous transducer, and the resonance frequency was generated at 0.9 kHz.
Implantable middle ear hearing devices (IMEHDs) have been widely studied as an alternative hearing aids to solve the problems of conventional hearing aids. Vibration transducer of middle ear hearing aids is a key component because vibration characteristics of transducer is directly involved performance of hearing aids. So, the study about middle ear hearing aids concentrate on the transducers. A floating mass type transducer is most efficient. In this paper, we suggest a lumped mechanical model of electromagnetic floating mass transducer implanted on human middle ear. The proposed model enables analysis of the vibration characteristics of a floating mass transducer and prediction of the variation after implant on ossicle that offers a simple and easy to analyze. The parameters was drawn based on the components and the structures of transducer. The Lumped mechanical model was converted by the electrical-mechanical equivalent model, and simulated using PSpice. So, we investigated vibration characteristics of transducer influenced it's components. And we predict vibration characteristics of stapes footplate due to implanted transducer's vibration using combining model of transducer and human ear. To prove the feasibility of the suggested model, we fabricated a differential floating mass transducer (DFMT) as one of floating mass transducers and performed experiments using the human temporal bones.

A new magnetostrictive patch array transducer for the generation and detection of torsional waves is developed fur the on-line health monitoring of rotating shafts. Even though the torsional wave is useful in nondestructive evaluation due to its non-dispersive property, a transducer generating torsional waves in rotating shafts has not been developed so far. In this research, a torsional wave transducer using the magnetostrictive effect is newly developed. By bonding an away of magnetostrictive rectangular patches on the outer surface of the shaft at an oblique angle of $45^{\circ}$ and encircling the array by a solenoid coil, we have successfully generated and measured torsional waves by the developed transducer. Several experiments were carried out to check the transducer performance.

This work presents a simple technique to determine the Poisson's ratio of homogeneous solid material using a pair of low cost PVDF ultrasonic transducers. It is based on transducer's property of generating longitudinal and transversal waves depending on the excitation frequency. Mechanical tests were conducted to validate the proposed method, resulting in a good agreement between ultrasonic and mechanical techniques.
The paper deals with a theoretical study on the vibrational characteristics of piezoelectric torsional transducers. The differential equations of piezoelectric torsional motion have been derived in terms of the circumferential displacement and the electric potential. Applying mechanical and electrical boundary conditions has yielded the characteristic equations of natural vibration in several transducer types. Numerical results have clarified the effect of the piezoelectric phenomenon on the mechanical resonance and the effect of the elastic block of a Langevin-type transducer on the natural frequency.
