  • The giant information exchange enabled by the Internet of Things paradigm will likely exploit electrical lines as a ready-to-use infrastructure. The advantage of using the pre-installed infrastructure of wiring networks makes power line communication a competitive technology for broad-band communications. Therefore, there has been a growing interest towards the use of existing power line communication channels as an effective means for transmitting high speed data and Internet service. One of the main noise types affecting power line communication systems is the impulsive noise, and the focus of this work is on the impact of this impulsive noise on the performance of OFDM-QPSK systems. For the performance analysis of impulsive noise, data measured in three environments were used. Through the analysis, it is shown that OFDM-QPSK system outperforms QPSK system for most of the impulsive noise cases. Also, RS-coded OFDM-QPSK system can achieve good BER performance under 3 cases impulsive noise environment.

  • As competition in the airline industry intensifies, effective airline service quality evaluation has become one of the main challenges. In particular, as big data analytics has been touted as a new research paradigm, new research on service quality measurement using online review analysis has been attempted. However, these studies do not use review titles for analysis, relyon supervised learning that requires a lot of human intervention in learning, and do not consider airline characteristics in classifying service quality dimensions. To overcome the limitations of existing studies, this study attempts to measure airlines service quality and to classify it into the AIRQUAL service quality dimension using online review text as well as title based on self-trainingand sentiment analysis. The results show the way of effective extracting service quality dimensions of AIRQUAL from online reviews, and find that each service quality dimension have a significant effect on service satisfaction. Furthermore, the effect of review title on service satisfaction is also found to be significant. This study sheds new light on service quality measurement in airline industry by using an advanced analytical approach to analyze effects of service quality on customer satisfaction. This study also helps managers who want to improve customer satisfaction by providing high quality service in airline industry.

  • Sustainability science is an emerging transdisciplinary research which necessitates not only the communication and collaboration of scientists, practitioners and stakeholders from different disciplines and interests, but also the paradigm shift from deterministic and reductionist approaches to the old basic. Ecological-societal systems (ESS) are co-evolving complex systems having many interacting parts (or agents) whose random interactions at local scale give rise to spontaneous emerging order at global scale (i.e., self-organization). Here, the flows of energy, matter and information between the systems and their surroundings play a key role. We introduce a conceptual framework for such continually morphing dynamical systems, i.e. self-organizing hierarchical open systems (SOHOs). To understand the structure and functionality of SOHOs, we revisit the two fundamental laws of physics. Re-interpretation of these principles helps understand the destiny and better path toward sustainability, and how to reconcile ecosystem integrity with societal vision and value. We then integrate the so-called visioneering (V) framework with that of SOHOs as feedback/feedforward loops so that 'a nudged self-organization' may guide systems' agents to work together toward sustainable ESS. Finally, example is given with newly endorsed Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Lab (i.e., 'Rural systems visioneering') by Future Earth, which is now underway in rural villages in Tanzania.

  • In accordance with low carbon and green growth paradigm, a subway is one of major public transit systems for resolving traffic congestion and decreasing traffic accidents. In addition, as subway networks expand, passengers' travel pattern in the subway network change and consequently affect the urban structure. Generally, new subway route has been planned and developed, mainly considering a travel demand forecast. However, it is desired to conduct an empirical analysis on the forecast model regarding change of travel accessibility and passenger demand pattern according to new subway line. Therefore, in this paper, an alternative method, developed based upon a spatial syntax model, is proposed for evaluating new subway route in terms of passenger's mobility and network accessibility. In a case study, we constructed subway network data, mainly targeting the no 9 subway line opened in 2009. With an axial-map analysis, we calculated spatial characteristics to describe topological movement interface. We then analyzed actual modal shift and change on demand of passengers through the number of subway passenger between subway stations and the number of passenger according to comparative bus line from Smart Card to validate suggested methods. Results show that the proposed method provides quantitative means of visualizing passenger flow in subway route planning and of analyzing the time-space characteristics of network. Also, it is expected that the proposed method can be utilized for predicting a passengers' pattern and its impact on public transportation.

  • This study was conducted to justify the "prescribed shelf life" currently used in Samsung Medical Center and give recommendations based on scientific data to adopt for safe and cost-effective storage times for sterile goods Since the early 1970's, predetermined expiration dating policy has been used in Korea on all in-house sterilized products like any other countries; six months for the supplies wrapped in polyethylene peel pouches and two weeks for the rest. Recently, however, the studies suggest that current standards for preserving the sterility can be changing. It looks like we unnecessarily have too-short expiration date of sterilized supplies, that is far from being cost effective. Certainly, this research is an exciting project, especially in Korea, and will be leading and contributing to the paradigm shift of the conservative concept of shelf life for sterile supplies in Korean healthcare facilities. The major goal of this study was placed on the measurement of the recontamination time in packs wrapped in all kinds of wrapping materials used in S.M.C and stored in various conditions for periods ranging from three months to six months, and then develop a practical standard of "shelf life" based on the analyzed data. Objectives: To measure and compare the recontamination time of sterile packs among wrapppers and storage conditions, and develop a practical standard for the shelf life and storage conditions of sterile products. Samples and Method: The sterile integrity was investigated of the total 1,440 sterile sample packs containing gauze strip($1.5cm{\times}0.5cm$) we prepared and wrapped in nine wrapping materials (randomized reprocessed linens, linens reprocessed 99 times, linens reprocessed 120 times, new kraft paper, used kraft paper, new nonwoven fabrics, 6-time reprocessed nonwoven fabrics, new polyethylene peel pouches, used polyethylene peel pouches), and stored in four locations(closed cabinet of one of the typical wards, open shelf of one of ICUs, open shelf of separate storage room in ER, open shelf in OR), for three to six months, respectively in 1998. Each type of packs were opened weekly and the gauze strips inoculated into Brewer's thioglycollate broth at $35^{\circ}C$ for seven days. Results: There was no growth found for any types of the pack and storage conditions studied. Discussion: This study was conducted in an attempt to identify the possibility of extending the current shelf life for sterile goods we use in a sense of cost effectiveness. The findings suggest that we could extend our expiration dates, that means we can save a lot of materials and personnel time meeded for resterilizing, outdating, recleaning, wrapping, and reshelving. Then it will initiate a great reform in the field of healthcare in Korea, and now we are looking forward to this valuable revolution. We are going to continue this study and take all steps need to apply this new concept to our practice, and then trying to extend to other hospitals.

  • Steady-State Visually Evoked Potentials (SSVEP) are natural response signal associated with the visual stimuli with specific frequency. By using SSVEP, occipital lobe region is electrically activated as frequency form equivalent to stimuli frequency with bandwidth from 3.5Hz to 75Hz. In this paper, we propose an experimental paradigm for analyzing EEGs based on the properties of SSVEP. At first, an experiment is performed to extract frequency feature of EEGs that is measured from the image-based visual stimuli associated with specific objective with affordance and object-related affordance is measured by using mirror neuron system based on the frequency feature. And then, linear discriminant analysis (LDA) method is applied to perform the online classification of the objective pattern associated with the EEG-based affordance data. By using the SSVEP measurement experiment, we propose a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) system for recognizing user's inherent intentions. The existing SSVEP application system, such as speller, is able to classify the EEG pattern based on grid image patterns and their variations. However, our proposed SSVEP-based BCI system performs object pattern classification based on the matters with a variety of shapes in input images and has higher generality than existing system.

  • The financial industry in South Korea has witnessed a paradigm shift from selling traditional loan/deposit products to diversified consumption channels and financial products. Consequently, personification of financial services has accelerated and the value of finance-related personal information has risen rapidly. As seen in the 2014 card company information leakage incident, most of major finance-related information leakage incidents are caused by personnel with authorized access to certain data. Therefore, it is strongly required to confirm whether there are problems in the existing access control policy for personnel who can access a great deal of data, and to complement access control policy by considering risk factors of information security. In this paper, based on information of IT personnel with access to sensitive finance-related data such as job, position, sensitivity of accessible data and on a survey result, we will analyze influence factors for personnel risk measurement and apply data access control policy reflecting the analysis result to an actual case so as to introduce measures to minimize IT personnel risk in financial companies.

  • Recently the web service area is rapidly growing as the next generation IT paradigm because of increase of concern about SOA(Services-Oriented Architecture) and growth of B2B market. Since a service discovery through UDDI(Universal Description, Discovery and Integration) is limited to a functional requirement, it is not considered an effect on frequency of service using and reliability of mutual relation. That is, a quality as nonfunctional aspect of web service is regarded as important factor for a success between consumer and provider. Therefore, the web service selection method with considering the quality is necessary. This paper suggests the agent-based quality broker architecture and selection process which helps to find a service providing the optimum quality that the consumer needs in a position of service consumer. A theory of agent is accepted widely and suitable for proposed system architecture in the circumstance of distributed and heterogeneous environment like web service. In this paper, we considered the QoS and CoS in the evaluation process to solve the problem of existing researches related to the web service selection and used PROMETHEE(Preference Ranking Organization MeTHod for Enrichment Evaluations) as an evaluation method which is most suitable for the web service selection among MCDM approaches. PROMETHEE has advantages that solve the problem that a pair-wise comparison should be performed again when comparative services are added or deleted. This paper suggested a case study with the service composition scenario in order to verify the selection process. In this case study, the decision making problem was described on the basis of evaluated values for qualities from a consumer's point of view and the defined service level.

  • Recently, as new paradigm for government operation called government 3.0, government is actively operating policy opening and sharing public data. In addition, the Ministry of Land are operating an open platform integrated map service (the VWorld) which provides a variety of video contents such as the country's national spatial information, traffic information and three-dimensional building for the public. According to W3C Foundation's Open Data Status Report(2013), our country has the evaluated results that the part of the government's policy support and planning is good while the part of the data management is vulnerable. So our country needs the quality improvement for the data management. In addition, a digital aerial photograph image data is required to be up-to-date for the three-dimensional spatial object data. In this paper, we present the method for enhancement of the accuracy of vertical position and for maintainment of up-to-date vertical position. Our methods evaluate the data quality and analyze the cause of error of measurement utilizing the national standard quality assessment method. The result of research shows that the accuracy of vertical position is improved if the height of the building captain is adjusted by the quality assessment values and a three-dimensional model has up-to-date data if reconstruction and extension information of construction register is utilized.

  • Global governments and initiatives have attempted and integrated various organizational efforts to implement the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), presenting a new paradigm of sustainable development to address global issues (climate change, poverty eradication, and human rights). Recently, investment in sustainable finance has expanded to finance the attainment of goals set out in the Paris Agreement and SDGs. Non-financial factors such as environment, social responsibility, and governance (ESG) have become intangible assets that determine the future competitiveness and profitability of companies. Domestic and foreign institutional investors and asset management companies have been expanding their investments based on the ESG performance of companies. In this study, we aim to derive international standards and initiatives that require disclosure of information on corporate social responsibility activities and ESG performance and analyze construction companies' ESG activities and performance levels. The results of this study can be used as the basis to develop platforms for the construction industry ESG ecosystem and the measurement and management of intangible assets. These could ultimately contribute to overcoming the crisis in the future due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, fostering net-zero emissions, and preventing fatal workplace accidents in the construction industry.
