  • As the indoor activity increases in recent years, the indoor air quality becomes more important. One of the major contaminants in office space is the copy machines and the laser based printers. These devices usually emit nano-particles and chemical species that may give some health effect. The amount of particles generated by the printers and copy machines depend on printer models, printing speed, toners, papers, humidity and so on. To evaluate the emission rate of nano-particles from Laser Printers, the mass concentration measurement method has been used (BAM, 2004). However, the mass concentration measurement method for nano-particles is tedious and time consuming. Therefore, for the development of a new nano-particle counting method, the nano-particle emission characteristics and size distributions are evaluated.

  • Longshore current is main transportation mean causing movement of bed load and suspended particle in coastal waters, and effective measurement method and suitable equipment for shallow water coastal environment where is frequently exposed to atmosphere. Measurement equipment for longshore drift was designed and miniature model was applied to Gyeongpo beach in May and June, 2014. The equipment consists of three main elements, spheroid outer casing, spheroid inner casing, observation module equipped with GPS. Gyroscope principle was applied to observation module, and GPS receiver always can be directed upwards. Miniature models were installed along Gyeonpo beach, and it was well to track the flow of longshore current. This research described the design and function of the equipment and results of field experiments.

  • In hot strip mills, Portable Roll Scanner (the portable roll surface temperature and profile measuring device) can be used to calibrate on-line Process models for strip crown and flatness by measuring the thermal expansion and wear profile of the rolls. And the surface temperature measurement can be used to optimize the roll cooling system. Portable Roll Scanner consists of the measuring device, which has two contact inductive distance transducers for roll profile measurement and one infrared Pyrometer for surface temperature measurement, and computer-based controller that is equipped with the measuring device. By the wireless data communication, the data is transferred to the memory of notebook for further analysis. After roll extraction from mills, Portable Roll Scanner measure the roll profile and surface temperature simultaneously along the work roll face and display the results in the TFT color monitor of notebook. Portable Roll Scanner is useful at mill-side and roll grinding shop.

  • The purpose of this study is the improvement of the prediction model of highway noise. It includes the measurement and analysis of predicted noise levels by various programs in types of road and environments. The results of the measurement are compared with the noise levels predicted by improved highway noise prediction model and domestic prediction models, (Improved highway noise prediction model was considered ASJ-2003, ISO-9613 part2 and noise power of road surface types at Korean highway road.)

  • Excellent moving picture performance of plasma TV has been confirmed through the study and measurement using the method proposed by the APDC (Advanced PDP Development Center Corporation). Full-HD Plasma TVs with pixels of $1920{\times}1080[1]-[2]$, showed more than 900 TV-lines of resolution out of maximum scale of 1080, while typical LCD of the same pixel count showed only 1/3 of the plasma's performance. Moreover, even the latest 120Hz models of $1920{\times}1080$ LCD do not much PDPs with pixels of $1024{\times}768$, or $1366{\times}786$ in moving picture resolution. The measurement system proposed by the APDC showed very good agreement with subjective tests.

  • This article presents Bayesian approach to regression splines with knots on a grid of equally spaced sample quantiles of the independent variables under functional measurement error model. We consider small area model by using penalized splines of non-linear pattern. Specifically, in a basis functions of the regression spline, we use radial basis functions. To fit the model and estimate parameters we suggest a hierarchical Bayesian framework using Markov Chain Monte Carlo methodology. Furthermore, we illustrate the method in an application data. We check the convergence by a potential scale reduction factor and we use the posterior predictive p-value and the mean logarithmic conditional predictive ordinate to compar models.

  • In some cases it is important to be able to measure not only the total sound intensity on a panel surface in a vehicle cabin, but also the components of that intensity due to sound radiation and due to absorption from the incident field. For example, these intensity components may be needed for calibration of energy flow models of the cabin noise. A robust method based on surface absorption coefficient measurement is presented in his paper.

  • An interferometer is the unique measurement device that can measure the range up to a few meters with sub-nano accuracy and this characteristic makes it as the important sensing device for the emerging nano-mechatronics technologies. The interferometer, however, is very sensitive to the environments such as temperature, humidity, sound noises, vibrations and air turbulences and these factors result in a few hundred nano meter errors. There have been many efforts to reduce these environmental errors. These efforts are mainly focused in reducing the errors inside the interferometer and improving the environments physically. The purpose of this paper is to improve accuracy of the interferometer by using measurement noise models and the Kalman filter algorithm.

  • An application of Scanning Tunneling Microscopy(STM) is investigated for the measurement of 3-dimensional profiles of the macro-machined patterns of which critical dimensions lie in the range of submicrometers. Special emphasis of this investigation is given to extending the measuring ranges of STM upto the order of several micrometers while maintaining superb nanometer measuring resolution. This is accomplished by correcting hysteresis effects of piezoelectric actuators by using non-linear compensation models. Detailed aspects of design and control of a prototype measurement system are described with some actual measuring examples in which fine It patterns can successfully be traced with a resolution of 1 nanometer over a surface range of $4{\times}2$ micrometers.

  • A two-dimensional boundary element method was used for the scattering analysis of side-drilled hole(SDH). The far-field scattering amplitude was calculated for shear vertical(SV) wave, and their frequency and time-domain results were presented. The time-domain scattering amplitude showed the directly reflected wave from the SDH leading edge as well as the creeping wave. In an immersion, pulse-echo testing, two measurement models were introduced to predict the response from SDHs. The 2-D boundary element scattering amplitude was converted to the 3-D amplitude to be used in the measurement model. The receiver voltage was calculated fer SV wave incidence at 45$^{\circ}C$ on the 1 m diameter SDH, and the result was compared with experiment.
