  • The purpose of this study is to observe the early life history of Korean Lefua costata and use the result as basic taxonomic research data for balitorid fish. The fertilized eggs were light green color with completely circle shape and mean size was 1.21±0.06 mm (n=30). Immediately after hatching, the size of the larvae was 2.81±0.11 mm (n=5) in mean length, with egg yolk. On the 3rd day after hatching, the preflexion larvae had a mean length of 4.64±0.09 mm (n=5), and their mouth was opened to start feeding. On the 8th day after hatching, a mean length of the postflexion larvae was 9.43±0.46 mm (n=5), the distal part of the notochord was bent to 45°, and 16 fin rays were developed on the caudal fin. On the 31st day after hatching, a mean length of juveniles was 22.3±0.85 mm (n=5), and the number of fin rays was the same as that of adult fish with (iv8) dorsal fins and (iii8) anal fins.

  • Experiments have been performed to find out the effect of the mixing port length of Y-jet atomizers on the spray performance, using air and water as the test fluids. Water and air flow rates and drop sizes were measured at each injection pressure condition for different mixing port length. The air flow rate was almost unaffected by the change of the mixing port length. However, the water flow rate was relatively susceptible to the change of the mixing port length. The mixing point pressure was very much influenced by the mixing port length. Variations of spatial distribution of Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD, $D_{32}$) and the cross-section-averaged SMD ($D_{32,m}$) with different mixing port length and air/water mass flow rate ratio were examined. Generally, when the mixing port length was reduced, the mean drop size decreased and became spatially even.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to establish a simple formula to predict renal length in children using a Technesium-99m dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scan data, and to compare it with the formula derived from ultrasonography, which is widely accepted. Methods: Children who underwent a DMSA scan and ultrasonography were reviewed retrospectively, and those who had anatomical urinary tract abnormalities or urinary tract infections were excluded. Results: A total of 230 children (84 males and 146 females; age, 1 month to 16 years; mean age, $16.8{\pm}27.4$ months). Mean renal length measured by DMSA scan was longer than that by ultrasonography ($6.38{\pm}1.16$ vs. $6.02{\pm}1.14cm$; P < 0.001). Renal length was correlated with age, weight, height, and body surface area on the DMSA scan and ultrasonography, and showed the strongest positive correlation with height. The following formulae were established to predict renal length: mean renal length (cm) = 5.433 ${\times}$ height (m) + 2.330 (R2, 0.833) using the DMSA scan data, and mean renal length (cm) = 5.367 ${\times}$ height (m) + 2.027 (R2, 0.853) using ultrasonography data. Conclusion: We propose a simple height-based formula to predict renal length in children using a DMSA scan data, and validate it by comparing with ultrasonography formula.

  • The purpose of this study was to establish basic database on Sorbus alnifolia by investigating, analyzing and comparing characteristics of leaf, and then foster good cultivar on each morphological characteristics - leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, left lateral vein, right lateral vein. Leaf length and leaf width in Osan showed distinct tendency in comparison with the whole mean : 103.4mm and 63.3mm, 86.4mm and 62.9mm, respectively. Populations of Mt. Dukyoo and Mt. Halla showed leaf length of 52.8mm and 58.2mm respectively 32.6% and 39% lower than the mean of ten population. Leaf width of Mt. Gwangyang and Mt. Chink was 52.8mm and 51.9mm, respectively 17.6% and 16.2% lower than whole mean, respectively, and showed the lowest tendency among ten selected populations.

  • In this paper, we investigate the mean queue length and the mean packet delay of a dynamic bandwidth allocation(DBA) scheme in an Ethernet passive optical network(EPON). We focus on the interleaved polling system with a gated service discipline. We assume that input packets arrive at an optical network unit(ONU) according to Poisson process. We use a continuous time queueing model in order to find the queue length distribution of the gated interleaved polling system with the first stage input queue and the second stage transmission queue. We give some numerical results to investigate the mean queue lengths and mean packet delays for the symmetric polling system with statistically identical stations.

  • Purpose: Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS) is a common gastrointestinal disease in neonates and hypochloremia metabolic alkalosis is a typical laboratory finding in affected patients. This study aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics of infants with IHPS and evaluate the association of clinical and laboratory parameters with ultrasonographic findings. Methods: Infants diagnosed with IHPS between January 2017 and July 2022 were retrospectively evaluated. Results: A total of 67 patients were included in the study. The mean age at diagnosis was 40.5±19.59 days, and the mean symptom duration was 11.97±9.91 days. The mean pyloric muscle thickness and pyloric canal length were 4.87±1.05 mm and 19.6±3.46 mm, respectively. Hyponatremia and metabolic alkalosis were observed in five (7.5%) and 36 (53.7%) patients, respectively. Serum sodium (p=0.011), potassium (p=0.023), and chloride levels (p=0.015) were significantly lower in patients with high bicarbonate levels (≥30 mmol/L). Furthermore, pyloric canal length was significantly higher in patients with high bicarbonate levels (p=0.015). To assess metabolic alkalosis in IHPS patients, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of pyloric canal length was 0.910 and the optimal cutoff value of the pyloric canal length was 23.5 mm. Conclusion: We found a close association between laboratory and ultrasonographic findings of IHPS. Clinicians should give special consideration to patients with pyloric lengths exceeding 23.5 mm and appropriate fluid rehydration should be given to these patients.

  • Recently, Hooda and Ram [7] have proposed and characterized a new generalized measure of R-norm entropy. In the present communication we have studied its application in coding theory. Various mean codeword lengths and their bounds have been defined and a coding theorem on lower and upper bounds of a generalized mean codeword length in term of the generalized R-norm entropy has been proved.

  • Let {Xn, n = 1,2,${\cdots}$} be i.i.d. random variables with the only unknown parameters mean ${\mu}$ and variance a ${\sigma}^2$. We consider a sequential confidence interval C1 for the mean with coverage probability 1-${\alpha}$ and expected length of confidence interval $E_{\theta}$(Length of CI)/${\mid}{\mu}{\mid}{\leq}k$ (k : constant) and give some asymptotic properties of the stopping time in various limiting situations.

  • 1. Objectives This study was carried out to investigate the equilibrium functional difference according to mean velocity of basilar artery with Sasang Constitution. 2. Methods We analyzed the data of 300 adults(194 males, 106 females), who visited oriental hospital of D university for medical examiation, which includes Sasang constitution examination, equilibrium function test, transcranial doppler ultrasonography(TCD). We evaluated the trace length and envelop area of open eyes and closed eyes, mean velocity of basilar artery and analyzed its statistical data. 3. Results and Conclusions 1) Within all subjects, trace length and envelop area of closed eyes were significantly lower, in the order of increased mean velocity of basilar artery group, normal mean velocity of basilar artery group and decreased mean velocity of basilar artery group. 2) No significantly difference was seen between the mean velocity of basilar artery and equilibrium function in Soyangin and Soeumin. 3) When closed eyes, trace length were significantly lower in order of increased mean velocity of basilar artery group, normal mean velocity of basilar artery group and decreased mean velocity of basilar artery group, in Taeeumin.
