  • Bolt-tightened Langevin type vibrators using longitudinal mode of bar were designed and fabricated. In order to amplify the displacement of the tip of the vibrators, stacked ceramics were used and five different shapes of the horns were designed and jointed. Resonant frequencies and vibration characteristics of vibrators and horns were analyzed by ANSYS(finite element analysis computer program), and the displacements of tips of the horns were measured. As results, when the numbers of the stacked ceramics were increased, the displacements of the tips were increased and the driving voltages were decreased. Step l horn (BLT-St1) showed maximum displacement of 36.92 $\mu\textrm{m}$ at 36.7 ㎑ with 45 V$\sub$rms/ and 0.11 A. The displacement amplification ratio was about 5.2. But, the stress of step l horn was concentrated on intersection, where two diameters meet. To lessen the stress, step3 shaped hem is recommended.

  • The present study simplified the moment-curvature relationship to straightforwardly determine the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns. For the idealized column section, moments and neutral axis depths at different stages(first flexural crack, yielding of tensile reinforcing bar, maximum strength, and 80% of the maximum strength at the descending branch) were derived on the basis of the equilibrium condition of forces and compatibility condition. Concrete strains at the extreme compression fiber beyond the maximum strength were determined using the stress-strain relationship of confined concrete, proposed by Kim et al. The lateral load-displacement curves converted from the simplified moment-curvature relationship of columns are well consistent with test results obtained from column specimens under various parameters. The moments and the corresponding neutral axis depth at different stages were formulated as a function of longitudinal reinforcement and transverse reinforcement indices and/or applied axial load index. Overall, curvature ductility of columns was significantly affected by the axial load level as well as concrete compressive strength and the amount of longitudinal and transverse reinforcing bars.

  • When a ballast track of a high-speed train is constructed on a bridge, the displacement of the bridge decks can occur because they are not fixed to the rails. Moreover, relative displacements occur between the bridge and rails caused by temperature changes and external loads. The current longitudinal resistance criteria (UIC Code 774-3, KR C-08080) on ballast tracks with continuous welded rails (CWRs) do not take into account the longitudinal movement of the bridge and the frictional force between the ballast and slabs. In addition, the magnitude of the longitudinal resistance, k, is calculated somewhat conservatively and, (therefore?) it acts as an unfavorable element in the design of long span and continuous railway bridges. Thus, in order to replicate the actual behavior more effectively, the longitudinal resistance of CWRs should take into account the additional rigidity between the slab and track. In this study, the longitudinal resistances of the ballasted track on the bridge were analyzed by carrying out an experimental study with a test setup designed to simulate the deck and bed track. In the test results, the maximum longitudinal resistances of the tests were similar to the resistances of the current codes, however, the measured longitudinal stiffness designed to limit the displacement of the tests were much smaller in comparison with the longitudinal stiffness on the codes.

  • It is increasing construction of long span railway bridge with concrete track system for speed up of railway and efficient maintenance of track. As the sleeper of the concrete track system layed on a bridge is fixed on deck of the bridge, the displacement of the sleeper and deck is same. Therefore, the spacing between two sleeper installed at the end of the adjacent deck near the expansion joint of bridge becomes vary according to the longitudinal expansion of a deck by temperature change. By the way, if the spacing of sleepers become increase excessively, it causes large bending stress of in a rail, and it can leads failure or reduction of fatigue life of the rail. And also the excessive displacement of the rail may induce decrease ride comfort. Therefore, in order to prevent such problems, the allowable maximum sleeper spacing at a bridge expansion joint was mutually determined. And, the determination procedure of the maximum bridge expansion length based on the allowable sleeper spacing was suggested.

  • Long stroke Fast Tool Servo (LFTS) with maximum stroke of $432{\mu}m$ is designed, manufactured and tested for fabrication of optical free-form surfaces. The large amount of stroke in LFTS has been realized by utilizing the hinge and lever mechanisms which enable the displacement amplification ratio of 4.3. In this mechanism the peculiar shape was devised for maximizing the displacement of end tip in LFTS and special mechanical spring has been mounted to provide the sufficient preload to the piezoelectric actuator. Also, its longitudinal motion of tool tip can be measured by capacitive type displacement sensor and closed-loop controlled to overcome the nonlinear hysteresis. In order to verify the static and dynamic characteristics of designed LFTS, several features including step response, frequency response and cut-off frequency in closed-loop mode were experimentally examined. Also, basic machining result shows that the proposed LFTS is capable of generating the optical free-form surface as an additional axis in diamond turning machine.

  • We designed and fabricated plate-type linear ultrasonic motor. It used multi-vibration mode, 1st Longitudinal and 4th Bending mode. To analyze vibration mode and find maximum displacement point, we simulated using FEM(Finite Element Method). The plate-type linear ultrasonic motor was fabricated by the simulation results. Also, to confirm application to card-forwarding device, frequency and load characteristics were measured. Its resonance frequency was 49.6 kHz, and its maximum speed was about 0.6m/s when no load. Also, its maximum efficiency was 1.2 % and in that time, speed and torque was 0.3 m/s and 0.7 mNm, respectively.

  • In this study, multilayer structured ultrasonic linear motor was designed and simulated using ANSYS of finite element method simulator for investigating the optimum conditions of it. The ultrasonic linear motor studied in this paper designed using the 1st longitudinal($L_1$) and 4th bending vibration($B_4$). The driving voltage of the motor was very low as $V_1=5\sqrt{2}sinwt$ and $V_2=5\sqrt{2}coswt$. With the increase of the number of piezoelectric ceramic layers, displacement of node was increased. Maximum z displacement of node was about $12{\mu}m$ at the 18 layered ultrasonic motor.

  • In recent years, the use of underground spaces becomes more frequent and the demands for urban tunnels are rapidly increasing. The urban tunnels constructed in the ground with a shallow and soft cover might be deformed in various forms on the face, which would lead, the tunnels to behavior 3-dimensionally, which may have a great impact on the longitudinal load transfer. The tunnel face might deform in various forms depending on the construction method, overburden and the heterogeneity of the ground. And accordingly, the type and size of the distribution of the load transferred to the ground adjacent to the tunnel face as well as the form of the loosened ground may appear in various ways depending on the deformation form of the tunnel face. Therefore, in this study was conducted model tests by idealizing the deformation behavior of the tunnel face, that were constant deformation, the maximum deformation on the top and the maximum deformation on the bottom. And the test results were analyzed focusing on the deformation of the face and the longitudinal load transfer at the ground above the tunnel. As results, it turned out that the size and the distribution type of the load, which was transferred to the tunnel as well as the earth pressure on the face were affected by the deformation type of the face. The largest load was transferred to the tunnel when the deformation was in a constant form. Less load was transferred when the maximum deformation on the bottom, and the least load was transferred when the maximum deformation on the top. In addition, it turned out that, if the cover became more shallow, a longitudinal load transfer in the tunnel would limited to the region close to the face; however, if the cover became higher than a certain value, the area of the load transfer would become wider.

Further more, the excessive displacement of the rail may induce decrease ride comfort as well as corrugation of rail surface. Therefore, it is required to determine the allowable maximum sleeper spacing to prevent such problems. For the purpose, investigation on the influence factor on sleeper spacing for straight track was carried out. Variation of bending moment in a rail, wheel force, and the ratio of primary and secondary deflection of the rail according to sleeper spacing was investigated, and, as a result, the maximum allowable sleeper spacing at the bridge expansion joint was suggested.
