  • This paper is aimed at predicting the life of rubber insulating gloves under normal operating stresses from relatively rapid test performed at higher stresses. Specimens of rubber insulating gloves are subject to multiple stress conditions, i.e. combined electrical and thermal stresses. Two modes of electrical stress, step voltage stress and constant voltage stress are used in specimen aging. There are two types of test for electrical stress in this experiment: the one is Breakdown Voltage (BDV) test under step voltage stress and thermal stress and the other is lifetime test under constant voltage stress and temperature stress. The ac breakdown voltage defined as the break-down point of insulation that leakage current excesses a limit value, l0mA in this experiment, is determined. Because the very high variability of aging data requires the application of statistical model, Weibull distribution is used to represent the failure times as the straight line on Weibull probability paper. Weibull parameters are deter-mined by three statistical methods i.e. maximum likelihood method, graphical method and least squares method, which employ SAS package, Weibull probability paper and FORTRAN, respectively. Two chosen models for predicting the life under simultaneous electrical and thermal stresses are inverse power model and exponential model. And the constants of life equation for multistress aging are calculated using numerical method, such as Gauss Jordan method etc.. The completion of life equation enables to estimate the life at normal stress based on the data collected from accelerated aging test. Also the comparison of the calculated lifetimes between the inverse power model and the exponential model is carried out. And the lifetimes calculated by three statistical methods with lower voltage than test voltage are compared. The results obtained from the suggested experimental method are presented and discussed.

  • In Ad-Hoc Networks, the limited energy is the key issue for longer network operation time. To solve this problem, various energy-aware routing techniques have been proposed including PSR (Power-aware Source Routing), HPSR (Hirachical Power-aware Source Routing), and etc. Those techniques generally select the most adequate route considering the energy consumption so that the energy efficiency can be improved. However, There are problems in those techniques that traffic can be concentrated in some specific area in a network. In this paper, a new energy aware routing technique called MPSR is proposed to achieve longer network lifetime and fewer rerouting attempts.

  • The main objective of this study is to examine genetic changes in growth rate and carcass composition traits in group housed, ad libitum fed pigs, from lines of Large White divergently selected over four years for high and low post-weaning daily gain on a fixed but restricted ration. Genetic parameters for production and carcass traits were also estimated by using average information-restricted maximum likelihood applied to a multivariate individual animal model. All analyses were carried out on 1,728 records of group housed ad libitum fed pigs, and include a full pedigree of 5,324 animals. Estimates of heritability (standard errors in parentheses) were 0.11 (0.04) for lifetime daily liveweight gain (LDG), 0.13 (0.04) for daily carcass weight gain (CDG) and 0.28 (0.06) for carcass backfat (CFT). Genetic correlations between LDG and CDG were highly positive and between LDG and CFT negative, suggesting that selection for lifetime daily gain under commercial conditions of group housing with ad libitum feeding would result in favourable improvement in carcass traits. CFT showed negative genetic correlations with CDG. Correlated genetic responses evaluated as estimated breeding values (EBVs) were obtained from a multivariate animal model-best linear unbiased prediction analysis. After four years of divergent selection for 6 week post-weaning growth rate on restricted feeding, pigs performance tested on ad libitum feeding in groups exhibited changes in EBVs of 6.77 and -9.93 (g/d) for LDG, 4.25 and -7.08 (g/d) for CDG, and -1.42 and 1.55 (mm) for CFT, in the high and low lines, respectively. It is concluded that selection for growth rate on restricted feeding would significantly improve genetic performance and carcass composition of their descendants when group housed and ad libitum fed as is a common commercial practice.

  • The railroad bogie's components experience repeated loading during service. Especially, oil damper bush has been fatigue fractured on the plane between rubber and steel stem during service, and which results in inferior of performance of the bogie. In this study, in order to offer a proper maintenance method of the bush, bubber bush used for the oil damper was fatigue tested and its damage fraction during service was estimated. Also, FEM analysis on the bush was conducted. When 1400, 1200, and 1000kgf of repeated loads were applied to the oil damper bush, final damage fraction exhibited 63.7%, 50% and 40%. From the results of FEM analysis, deformation energy density was found to be $0.5452kgf/mm^{2}$ at an applied load of 1400kgf and the location with maximum value coincided with the fractured location of the bush. Finally, it will be desirable to adopt the normalized damage fraction rather than absolute damage fraction in estimating remaining service lifetime of the bush.

  • This paper builds on a recent method, chain routing with even energy consumption (CREEC), for designing a wireless sensor network with chain topology and for scheduling the communication to ensure even average energy consumption in the network. In here a new suboptimal design is proposed and compared with the CREEC design. The chain topology in CREEC is reconfigured after each group of n converge-casts with the goal of making the energy consumption along the new paths between the nodes in the chain as even as possible. The new method described in this paper designs a single near-optimal Hamiltonian circuit, used to obtain multiple chains having only the terminal nodes different at different converge-casts. The advantage of the new scheme is that for the whole life of the network most of the communication takes place between same pairs of nodes, therefore keeping topology reconfigurations at a minimum. The optimal scheduling of the communication between the network and base station in order to maximize network lifetime, given the chosen minimum length circuit, becomes a simple linear programming problem which needs to be solved only once, at the initialization stage. The maximum lifetime obtained when using any combination of chains is shown to be upper bounded by the solution of a suitable linear programming problem. The upper bounds show that the proposed method provides near-optimal solutions for several wireless sensor network parameter sets.

  • The operational characteristics of the duoplasmatron ion source are investigated in order to obtain the maximum achievable extraction current of the $He^+$ ion beam with the small divergence. Under the variations of the gas pressure, the arc current, the magnet current and the extraction voltage of the ion source, the change of the extracted $He^+$ ion beam current is observed. An oxide filament, the mixture of BaO and SrO coated on Ni meshes, is used as the hot cathode, and its average lifetime is about 100 hours. The extraction current is linearly proportional to the arc current. As the magnet current of the ion source is increased, the extraction current increases, but the beam divergence becomes larger. The maximum extraction current is obtained at the source pressure of 0.084 Torr. The extraction current is proportional to the extraction voltage raised to the power of 3/2 as estimated from theory. At the extraction voltage of 5.72 kV, the maximum extraction current of 50 $\mu$A is obtained under the optimized extraction condition.

  • Reactive ion etching (RIE) technique for maskless surface texturing of mc-silicon solar wafers has been applied and succeed in fabricating a grass-like black-silicon with an average reflectance of $4{\pm}1%$ in a wavelength range of 300~1,200 nm. In order to investigate the optimized texturing conditions for mass production of high quantum efficiency solar cell Surface characteristics such as the spatial distribution of average reflectance, micrscopic surface morphology and minority carrier lifetime were monitored for samples from saw-damaged $15.6{\times}15.6\;cm^2$ bare wafer to key-processed wafers as well as the mc-Si solar cells. We observed that RIE textured wafers reveal lower average reflectance along from center to edges by 1% and referred the origin to the non-uniform surface structures with a depth of 2 times deeper and half-maximum width of 3 times. Samples with anti-reflection coating after forming emitter layer also revealed longer minority carrier lifetime by 40% for the edge compared to wafer center due to size effects. As results, mc-Si solar cells with RIE-textured surface also revealed higher efficiency by 2% and better external quantum efficiency by 15% for edge positions with higher height.

  • Trace metals concentrations in the tissue of edible marine fish (4 species), olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus), Korean rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii), file fish (Stephanolepis cirrhifer) and abbysal searobin (Lepidotrigla abyssalis), collected near the Yongho wharf in Busan were determined to assess the potential human health risk (HRA) of trace metals by fish consumption. Levels of Li, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, and Pb in the fish tissue were $0.005{\pm}0.009$, $0.77{\pm}0.30$, $0.29{\pm}0.34$, $0.49{\pm}0.14$, $15.96{\pm}2.52$, $10.62{\pm}4.67$, $0.001{\pm}0.002$, and $0.045{\pm}0.06mg/kgdw$ respectively. The estimated daily intakes of Cu and Zn and the estimated weekly intakes of As, Cd, and Pb from the fish collected near the Yongho wharf were 0.0032, 0.054-0.18% of PMTDI (provisional maximum tolerable daily intake) and 13, 0.0041, 0.020% of PTWI (provisional tolerable weekly intake) which were set to evaluate the food safeties by the JFCFA (The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives). Lifetime cancer risk and target hazard for local residents due to those fish consumption were found to be negligible.

  • There are probabilistic forecast models for solar flare occurrence, which can be evaluated by various skill scores (e.g. accuracy, critical success index, heidek skill score, true skill score). Since these skill scores assume that two types of forecast errors (i.e. false alarm and miss) are equal or constant, which does not take into account different situations of users, they may be unrealistic. In this study, we make an evaluation of a probabilistic flare forecast model (Lee et al. 2012) which use sunspot groups and its area changes as a proxy of flux emergence. We calculate daily solar flare probabilities from 1996 to 2014 using this model. Overall frequencies are 61.08% (C), 22.83% (M), and 5.44% (X). The maximum probabilities computed by the model are 99.9% (C), 89.39% (M), and 25.45% (X), respectively. The skill scores are computed through contingency tables as a function of forecast probability, which corresponds to the maximum skill score depending on flare class and type of a skill score. For the critical success index widely used, the probability threshold values for contingency tables are 25% (C), 20% (M), and 4% (X). We use a value score with cost/loss ratio, relative importance between the two types of forecast errors. We find that the forecast model has an effective range of cost/loss ratio for each class flare: 0.15-0.83(C), 0.11-0.51(M), and 0.04-0.17(X), also depending on a lifetime of satellite. We expect that this study would provide a guideline to determine the probability threshold for space weather forecast.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest design criteria for the HMT (hydro-mechanical transmission) of a 55 kW-class agricultural tractor, develop a simulation model, and evaluate its performance such as axle rotational speed, tractor speed, and power transmission efficiency. In this study, the HMT comprised a compound planetary gear and a HSU (hydro-static unit), and the compound planetary gear comprised two planetary gear sets. The HMT has three gear stages, and the maximum tractor speed was selected as 40 km/h. The simulation time was set at 2736 hours considering the lifetime of the tractor, and the simulation was performed for each gear stage at the engine-rated power conditions. As a result of the simulation, the axle rotational speeds for each gear stage were 39, 77, and 158 rpm, respectively. The range of tractor speed for each gear stage were 1.05-10.22 km/h, 10.74-20.17 km/h, and 20.70-41.40 km/h, respectively. The APE (absolute percentage gear) for the tractor's maximum speed between target value and simulation results were 2.20%, 0.85%, and 3.50%, respectively. Also, the power transmission efficiency for each gear stage were 0-75%, 72-81%, and 69-81%, respectively. The simulation results for the power transmission efficiency of the HMT were similar with the results of the previous research. This was a basic study on the development of the HMT for an agricultural tractor. In future studies, it is necessary to develop a tractor platform and evaluate the performance. The comparison between the simulation model and the HMT tractor should be performed.
