  • The purpose of this study was to compare the apical microleakage in root canal filled with Resilon by methacrylate-based root canal sealer or 2 different self-adhesive resin cements. Seventy single-rooted extracted human teeth were sectioned at the CEJ perpendicular to the long axis of the roots with diamond disk. Canal preparation was performed with crown-down technique using Profile NiTi rotary instruments and GG drill. Each canal was prepared to ISO size 40, .04 taper and 1 mm short from the apex. The prepared roots were randomly divided into 4 experimental groups of 15 roots each and 5 roots each for positive and negative control group. The root canals were filled by lateral condensation as follows. Group 1: Guttapercha with AH-26, Group 2: Resilon with RealSeal primer & sealer, Group 3: Resilon with Rely-X Unicem, Group 4: Resilon with BisCem. After stored in $37{\circ}C$, 100% humidity chamber for 7 days, the roots were coated with 2 layers of nail varnish except apical 3 mm. The roots were then immersed in 1% methylene blue dye for 7 days. Apical microleakage was measured by a maximum length of linear dye penetration after roots were separated longitudinally. One way ANOVA and Scheffe's post-hoc test were performed for statistical analysis. Group 1 showed the least apical leakage and there was no statistical significance between Group 2, 3, 4. According to the results, the self adhesive resin cement is possible to use as sealer instead of primer & sealant when root canal filled by Resilon.

  • The effects of Sc and Sr elements on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase and the castability were investigated in the Al-4wt%Mg-0.9wt%Si-0.3wt%Mn-0.15wt%Fe alloy. Measurements of the cooling curve and microstructure observations were performed to analyze the additional effects of Sc and Sr minor elements during the solidification process. A prominent effect found on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase with additions of the Sr and Sc elements. Here, a fine eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase and a decrease in the growth temperature of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase were evident with an addition of Sc element up to 0.2 wt%. The growth temperature of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase decreased and the effect on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase increased with the addition of Sr element up to 0.02 wt%. The addition of 0.02wt%Sr had the strongest effect on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase, and the resulting microstructure of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase was found to have a fibrous morphology with a decreased aspect ratio and an increased modification ratio. Fluidity and shrinkage tests were conducted to evaluate the castability of the alloy. The addition of 0.02wt%Sr effectively increased the fluidity of the alloy, while an addition of Sc did not show any effect compared to when nothing was added. The maximum filling length was recorded for 0.01wt%TiB-0.02wt%Sr owing to the effect of the fine ${\alpha}$-Al grains. The macro-shrinkage ratio decreased, while the micro-shrinkage ratio increased with the addition of various eutectic modifiers. The highest ratio of micro-shrinkage was recorded for the 0.02wt%Sr condition. However, the total shrinkage ratio was nearly identical regardless of the amounts added in this study.

  • The maturity and spawning of Korean flounder Glyptocephalus stelleri were investigated using samples randomly collected in the East Sea of Korea from May 2005 to September 2008. Gonadosomatic index began to increase in December and reached a maximum between March and May. After spawning it began to decrease from June. The spawning period was March to June, and the main spawning period was April to May. Annual reproductive cycles of this species can be divided into four successive stages; immature stage (July~November), maturing stage (December~February), mature stage (March~April) and spent stage (May~June). The fecundity ranged from 15,146 eggs at 24.1 cm (TL) to 101,491 eggs at 38.1 cm (TL). The relationship between total length (TL) and fecundity (F) can be expressed as $F=0.0004TL^{3.449}$ ($R^2=0.663$), with F increasing with TL. The TL at 50% group maturity ($TL_{50%}$) was estimated to be 25.6 cm.

  • $Bi_2Te_3-Bi_2Se_3$ alloy which is typical n-type thermoelectric material were grown by traveling heater method (THM) technique. We investigate the effect of the composition of $100-x(Bi_2Te_3)-x(Bi_2Se_3)$ and doping of n-type dopants such as $SbI_3$ and $CdCl_2$. Maximum figure of merit of $Bi_2Te_3-Bi_2Se_3$ alloy was observed with $CdCl_2$ 0.1 wt% (Z: $2.73{\times}10^{-3}/K$) and $SbI_3$ 0.05 wt% (Z: $2.29{\times}10^{-3}/K$). Deviation along the length of $Bi_2Te_3-Bi_2Se_3$ ingot grown by THM method is low, which indicates that the ingot is very homogenized. Also we observed the close relationship of between anisotropy ratio and dopant in the $90(Bi_2Te_3)-10(Bi_2Se_3)$ alloys. And we confirmed the fact that anisotropy ratio exerts thermoelectric performance in $Bi_2Te_3$ based n-type thermoelectric material.

  • The design, construction and performance test of a convenient multi-purpose irradiator is described. A multi-purpose irradiator using Cesium-137 has been developed for studies of low dose radiation effects in biology and for calibration of Thermo Luminescent dosimeter(TLD). During the operation, three rods of radioactive material which are 10cm in length revolve 180 degrees and irradiate biological samples, or TLD, and return to their shielded position, after the programmed time. A programmable Logic Controller(PLC) controls the sequence of operation, interlock, motor rotation and safety system. The rotation speed of biological samples can vary up to 20 RPM. A real time monitoring system was also incorporated to check and control the operation status of the irradiator. The capacity of the irradiation chamber was 4.5 liters. The isodose distribution at arbitrary vertical planes was measured by using film dosimetry. The dose-rate was 0.13 cGy/min in air and 0.11 cGy/min in water equivalent material in the case of Cesium-137. Range of activity was 2 Ci. The homogeneity of dose distribution in the chamber was ${\pm}$7%. The actual radiation level on the surface was within permissible levels. The irradiator had a maximum 0.35 mR/min radiation leakage on its surface.

  • A delay-line type time-to-digital converter (TDC) implemented in a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is most widely owing due to its simple structure and high conversion rate. However, the delay-line type TDC suffers from nonlinearity error caused by the long delay-line because its time interval measurement range is determined by the length of the used delay line. In this study, a new TDC structure with a shorter delay line by taking a pulse train as an input is proposed for improved time accuracy and efficient use of resources. The proposed TDC utilizes a pulse-train with four transitions and a transition state detector that identifies the used transition among four transitions and prevents the meta-stable state without a synchronizer. With 72 delay cells, the measured resolution and maximum non-linearity were 20.53 ps, and 1.46 LSB, respectively, and the time interval measurement range was 5070 ps which was enhanced by approximately 343 % compared to the conventional delay-line type TDC.

  • This study was to suggest the predictive model of propagation, considering the effect by the multipath waves produced by the sending and receiving vehicles' left/right reflectors and the adjacent vehicles when the communication between the vehicles on the one-way two-lanes road in the urban city with a lot of traffic jams. Then, the radius of curved road was 600[m], the length of curved roads $52.4\sim471.2[m]$, and the bridge's pier of road was $5o\sim45o$. Also, it was simulated by changing the receiving vehicle located on the curved road's gap from minimum 3.3[m] to maximum 29.5[m], corresponding to the change of distance of the bridge's pier of road and curved road. As a result of this research above, in case of $5o\sim15o$ bridge's pier of road, it was within l[dB] regardless of the receiving vehicle's position on the curved road in case of propagation path loss. In case of $15o\sim45o$, it was approximately $1\sim8[dB]$ as the bridge's pier of road is changed. And, in case of propagation path, it found out that it was changed to $0.4\sim120[m]$ according to the change of bridge's pier of road. Then, the delay time of propagation was 400[nsec] as it produced 120[m] in the difference of propagation path.

  • Recently, the effects of high temperature and fiber content on the residual mechnical properties of high-strength concrete were experimentally investigated. In this paper, residual mechanical properties of concrete with water to cement (w/c) ratios of 0.55, 0.42 and 0.35 exposed to high temperature are compared with those obtained in fiber reinforced concrete with similar characteristics ranging from 0.05% to 0.20% polypropylene (PP) fiber volume percentage. Also, factors including pre-load levels of 20% and 40% of the maximum load at room temperature are considered. Outbreak time, thermal strain, length change, and mass loss were tested to determine compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, and energy absorption capacity. From the results, in order to prevent the explosive spalling of 50 MPa grade concretes exposed to high temperature, more than 0.05 vol. % of PP fibers is needed. Also, the cross-sectional area of PP fiber can influence the residual mechanical properties and spalling tendency of fiber reinforced concrete exposed to high temperature. Especially, the external loading increases not only the residual mechanical properties of concrete but also the risk of spalling and brittle failure tendency.

  • This study examined the fluidity and strength properties, water resistance, durability, and freeze-thaw of cementless loess mortar using an eco-friendly hardening agent. The experimental result indicates that 28 days compressive and flexural strength of the loess mortar was increased regardless of the weathered granite soil and loess mixture ratio as the replacement ratio of the hardening agent increases. The strengths were significantly increased until 14 days regardless of the hardening agent, while the effect on the strengths increasement was relatively low after 14 days. Thus, the strength development of loess mortar concrete was found to be faster than that of the normal concrete. In addition, when the hardening agent of 10% was used, the average flexural strength was 1.7MPa which is insufficient compared to the 28-day flexural strength of 4.5MPa for the paving concrete. However, the flexural strengths of the loess mortar concrete using the hardening agents of 20% and 30% were 4.0MPa and 5.3MPa, respectively. Thus, the hardening agent need to be at least 20% so that the loess mortar can be used for paving concrete. The experiment for water resistance shows that the repeated absorption and dry reduced mass regardless of the mixing ratio of the loess. The maximum length change also decreased with increasing the substitution rate loess mixture ratio and the hardening agent. The result of the freeze-thaw resistance test indicates that the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity at 300 cycle freeze-thaw with the hardening agents of 20% and 30% were 75% and 79%, relatively. Thus, the hardening agent of at least 20% is required to obtain the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity of 60% for the loess mortar.
