Video Content-Based Bit Rate Estimation Scheme for Transcoding in IPTV Services

  • In this paper, a new bit rate estimation scheme is proposed to determine the bit rate for each subclass in an MPEG-2 TS to H.264/AVC transcoder after dividing an input MPEG-2 TS sequence into several subclasses. Video format transcoding in conventional IPTV and Smart TV services is a time-consuming process since the input sequence should be fully transcoded several times with different bit-rates to decide the bit-rate suitable for a service. The proposed scheme can automatically decide the bit-rate for the transcoded video sequence in those services which can be stored on a video streaming server as small as possible without losing any subject quality loss. In the proposed scheme, an input sequence to the transcoder is sub-classified by hierarchical clustering using a parameter value extracted from each frame. The candidate frames of each subclass are used to estimate the bit rate using a statistical analysis and a mathematical model. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme reduces the bit rate by, on an average approximately 52% in low-complexity video and 6% in high-complexity video with negligible degradation in subjective quality.

  • In this research, we dealt with an optimization problem which aims to minimize total cost of resources usage and network routing in a smart node environment. Toward this, we briefly introduced technology trends in smart nodes, methods in resource optimization fields, economic effects of smart network and content delivery (or distribution) network (CDN). Moreover, based on CDN we proposed and implemented a mathematical (mixed integer) programming model to combine replica placement and requests distribution problem (RPRDP) and routing problem. Computational result of an example on RPRDP+Routing problem is also provided.

Effects of Temperature and Composition on the Thermal Conductivity and Thermal Diffusivity of Some Food Components (온도와 조성이 식품성분의 열전도도와 열확산도에 미치는 영향)

  • The thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of food are heavity dependent on temperature and composition. The thermal properties of pure component solids were determined by the proposed model at a temperature range of $-40^{\circ}C\;to\;150^{\circ}C$ from the experimental values of 10%, 30% and 60% solid content suspensions. The major components of food products were proteins(albumin, casein, whey protein, meat protein and gluten), lipids (milk fat, vegetable oil, lard and corn oil), carbohydrates (dextrose, lactose, sugar and starch), fibers (cellulose and pectin), all milk salts. A modified probe method was used to measure these properties of pure component suspensions of each major component of food products. General mathematical models which were developed by an optimization technique can be applied to predict the properties of food products.

Optimization of Brown Rice Cookies using Purple Sweet Potato (자색고구마 가루 첨가 발아현미 쿠키의 제조조건 최적화)

  • The aim of this study was to use purple sweet potato powder to develop a recipe for a nutritional cookie with an optimal composition of ingredients and texture, in order to acquire strong preference responses by all age groups in sensory tests. Wheat flour was partially substituted with purple sweet potato powder to reduce the wheat flour content of the cookies. Measurements were made and analyzed according to the Response Surface Methodology technique, which showed 16 experimental points including 3 replicates for the purple sweet potato powder, sugar, and butter. The compositional and functional properties of the sample were measured, and the values obtained were applied to a mathematical model. A canonical form and perturbation plot showed the influence of each ingredient on the final product mixture. The results of sensory evaluations showed very significant values for flavor (P<0.0071), texture (P<0.0306), taste (P<0.0190), and overall quality (P<0.0142). Instrumental analysis showed significant values for hardness (P<0.0027), yellowness (P<0.0061) and spread ratio (P<0.0001). The optimal compositional ratios were determined to be 21.75 g for the purple sweet potato powder, 37.05 g for the sugar, and 60.59 g for the butter.

  • This study develops a performance assessment system to improve grade 4-9 students' creativity. First, this study discusses its educational meaning, its task types, scoring methods and practical application methods. Then, this study provides the typical examples of performance assessment task classified by each of the types and its scoring rubrics. Finally, this study analyzes students' achievement levels for each task. Each task includes item informations such as content area, evaluation goal, evaluation procedure, preparatory material, characteristics, considering points, scoring rubric etc. for grade 4-9 teachers to use them in their evaluation processes directly without difficulties.

  • This study investigated the perceptions of beginning teachers about teacher knowledge. Reflections and improvement of their class knowledge have been perceived as the most important factors by beginning teachers. In terms of utilization of actual classes, teacher knowledge, mathematical concepts and correlations such as connection linked to class contents and hierarchy have been used the most. Among the needed teachers knowledge, knowledge of student understanding and mathematics content knowledge was the most essential knowledge that could be mainly formed through classroom experience and teacher training program. On the other hand, knowledge about technology and assessment was not necessary or useful factor for beginning teachers. To facilitate formation of beginning teachers' knowledge, teacher introductory program, mentoring program, interactive relationship with teacher education institutes, curriculum improvement for teacher education institute and the development and dissemination of various teachers training program would be required.

Statistical methods of investigation on the compressive strength of high-performance steel fiber reinforced concrete

  • The contribution of steel fibers on the 28-day compressive strength of high-performance steel fiber reinforced concrete was investigated, is presented. An extensive experimentation was carried out over water-cementitious materials (w/cm) ratios ranging from 0.25 to 0.40, with silica fume-cementitious materials ratios from 0.05 to 0.15, and fiber volume fractions ($V_f$= 0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5%) with the aspect ratios of 80 and 53. Based on the test results of 44 concrete mixes, mathematical model was developed using statistical methods to quantify the effect of fiber content on compressive strength of HPSFRC in terms of fiber reinforcing index. The expression, being developed with strength ratios and not with absolute values of strengths, is independent of specimen parameters and is applicable to wide range of w/cm ratios, and used in the mix design of steel fiber reinforced concrete. The estimated strengths are within ${\pm}3.2%$ of the actual values. The model was tested for the strength results of 14 mixes having fiber aspect ratio of 53. On examining the validity of the proposed model, there exists a good correlation between the predicted values and the experimental values of different researchers. Equation is also proposed for the size effect of the concrete specimens.

Chloride penetration resistance of concrete containing ground fly ash, bottom ash and rice husk ash

  • This research presents the effect of various ground pozzolanic materials in blended cement concrete on the strength and chloride penetration resistance. An experimental investigation dealing with concrete incorporating ground fly ash (GFA), ground bottom ash (GBA) and ground rice husk ash (GRHA). The concretes were mixed by replacing each pozzolan to Ordinary Portland cement at levels of 0%, 10%, 20% and 40% by weight of binder. Three different water to cement ratios (0.35, 0.48 and 0.62) were used and type F superplasticizer was added to keep the required slump. Compressive strength and chloride permeability were determined at the ages of 28, 60, and 90 days. Furthermore, using this experimental database, linear and nonlinear multiple regression techniques were developed to construct a mathematical model of chloride permeability in concretes. Experimental results indicated that the incorporation of GFA, GBA and GRHA as a partial cement replacement significantly improved compressive strength and chloride penetration resistance. The chloride penetration of blended concrete continuously decreases with an increase in pozzolan content up to 40% of cement replacement and yields the highest reduction in the chloride permeability. Compressive strength of concretes incorporating with these pozzolans was obviously higher than those of the control concretes at all ages. In addition, the nonlinear technique gives a higher degree of accuracy than the linear regression based on statistical parameters and provides fairly reasonable absolute fraction of variance ($R^2$) of 0.974 and 0.960 for the charge passed and chloride penetration depth, respectively.

Development of a Rice Circulating Concurrent-flow Dryer(II) - Validation of Drying Simulation Model - (순환식 병류형 곡물건조기 개발(II) - 시뮬레이션모델의 검증 -)

  • This study was performed to develop a simulation model of circulating concurrent-flow rice dryer. The simulation model consists of drying model, tempering model and crack prediction model. The drying and tempering models were developed based on mathematical analysis, and the crack prediction model was developed by thin layer drying tests. Rice drying tests were done with three replications by use of a pilot scale dryer of holding capacity of 700 kg. Experimental values for moisture content, rice temperature, rice crack, and drying energy were compared with predicted values by simulation model. The RMSEs of predicted moisture contents were ranged from 0.5807% (d.b.) to 1.1951% (d.b.). and the coefficients of determination were 0.9688 to 0.9812. The RMSEs of predicted rice temperatures at the exit of the drying chamber were 1.83 to $3.81^{\circ}C$ and the coefficients of determination were 0.8834 to 0.9482. The results for moisture contents and rice temperatures showed very good relationships between predicted values and experimental values. The RMSEs of predicted value of crack ratio were 0.4082 to 0.7967% and the coefficients of determination were 0.8742 to 0.9547.

A Self-Reconfigurable System of Contents among Smart Devices

  • In this system, mobile devices are not independent, they can communicate with each other, one device's change can affect the whole system or other devices. To achieve the above mentioned A Self-Reconfigurable System of Contents, through discover the device and connect process, to establish the connection between the mobile devices. After user assigns two dimension display type, the user can select content to input the system, contents are portioning and broadcast to devices. The system can self-reconfigure contents rapidly and exactly. This technique supports contents self-reconfiguration for devices remove, addition and position exchange. In this paper, when the user uses the hand contacts device, the device sends a signal to assist the system to detection device's position. The system does not need to get accurate devices moving direction, just according to all changed devices position to judge where the devices destination is. This research develops an application according to this technique, and the real machine tests the application using Android platform. Some communication protocols and mathematical modeling methods are proposed. These methods can also be used in other Internet of Things (IoT) fields, such as Drones Navigation, Smart Home, and Informational City management.
