In this study, nickel hydroxide crystalline powders were synthesized by continuous reaction in the taylor fluid flow using nickel chloride, nickel sulphate and sodium hydroxide as raw materials and compared with those prepared by a conventional batch type reaction. The crystallinity of nickel hydroxide prepared by the Taylor fluid flow reaction was higher than that of nickel hydroxide obtained by batch reaction. The particle size of nickel hydroxide decreased about 2.5 to 3.6 times, and the specific surface area was increased.
Effects of the $O_2/Ar$ flow ratio in the sputtering process on the crystallinity, surface roughness, carrier concentration, carrier mobility, and optical properties of Al-doped ZnO thin films deposited on sapphire (001) substrates by RF magnetron sputtering were investigated. XRD spectra showed a preferred orientation along the c-axis and a minimum FWHM of the (002) XRD intensity peak for the $O_2/Ar$ flow ratio of 0.5. The (101)peak also appeared and the degree of preferred orientation decreased as the $O_2/Ar$ flow ratio increased from 0.5 to 1.0. AFM analysis results showed that the surface roughness was lowest at the $O_2/Ar$ flow ratio of 0.5 and tended to increase owing to the increase of the grain size as the $O_2/Ar$ flow ratio increased further. According to the Hall measurement results the carrier concentration and carrier mobility of the fan decreased and thus the resistivity increased as the $O_2/Ar$ flow ratio increased. The transmittance of the ZnO:Al film deposited on the glass substrate was characteristic of a standing wave. The transmittance increased as the $O_2/Ar$ flow ratio in-RF magnetron sputtering increased up to 0.5. Considering the effects of the $O_2/Ar$ flow ratio on the surface roughness, electrical resistivity and transmittance properties of the ZnO:Al film the optimum $O_2/Ar$ flow ratio was 0.5 in the RF magnetron sputter deposition of the ZnO:Al film.

Evaluation of the elevated temperature flow stress for thermoplastic fiber metal laminates(TFMLs) sheet, comprised of two aluminum sheets in the exterior layers and a self-reinforced polypropylene(SRPP) in the interior layer, was conducted. The flow stress as a function of temperature should be evaluated prior to the actual forming of these materials. The flow stress can be obtained experimentally by uniaxial tensile tests or analytically by deriving a flow stress model. However, the flow stress curve of TFMLs cannot be predicted properly by existing flow stress models because the deformation with temperature of these types of materials is different from that of a generic pure metallic material. Therefore, the flow stress model, which includes the effect of the temperature, should be carefully identified. In the current study, the flow stress of TFMLs were first predicted by using existing flow stress models such as Hollomon, Ludwik, and Johnson-Cook models. It is noted that these existing models could not effectively predict the flow stress. Flow stress models such as the modified Hollomon and modified Ludwik model were proposed with respect to temperatures of $23^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$, $90^{\circ}C$, $120^{\circ}C$. Then the stress-strain curves, which were predicted using the proposed flow stress models, were compared to the stress-strain curves obtained from experiments. It is confirmed that the proposed flow stress models can predict properly the temperature dependent flow stress of TFMLs.

Prediction of 3-D permeability tensor for multi-axial preform is critical to model and design the manufacturing process of composites by considering resin flow through the multi-axial fiber structure. In this study, the in-plane and transverse permeabilities for braided preform are predicted numerically. The flow analyses are calculated by using 3-D CVFEM(control volume finite element method) for macro-unit cells. To avoid checker-board pressure field and improve the efficiency of numerical computation, a new interpolation function for velocity is proposed on the basis of analytic solutions. Permeability of a braided preform is measured through unidirectional flow experiment and compared with the permeability calculated numerically. Unlike other studies, the current study is based on more realistic unit cell and prediction of permeability is improved.

Because flow uniformity affects the life cycle and performance of the catalyst, it is an important design factor for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems. We examined how the diffuser angle and the area ratio of the inlet of the SCR reactor to the front of the catalyst affect flow uniformity. For the numerical analysis, we used STAR-CCM+, a common CFD software program. Analysis results showed that the larger the area ratio was, the less the flow uniformity was, and that the longer the diffuser length was, the greater the flow uniformity was. When the area ratio was greater than 1:5, the flow uniformity appeared very similar at the front of the catalyst. As a result, the spread time of the exhaust gas increased and the flow velocity decreased.
Effects of passive film quality by chemical passivation and solution flow on the corrosion behavior of 304 stainless steel in HCl solution were investigated using a coloration indicator, and by corrosion weight loss, electrochemical polarization and element dissolution measurements. A high redness degree suggests a low passive-film integrity for 304 stainless steel following air exposure, while the minimum redness degree for the samples after chemical passivation suggests a high passive-film integrity. In the static condition, samples subjected to air exposure exhibited a high corrosion rate and preferential dissolution of Fe. Chemical passivation inhibited the corrosion rate due to the intrinsically high structural integrity of the passive film and high concentrations of Cr-rich oxides and hydroxide. Solution flow accelerated corrosion by promoting both the anodic dissolution reaction and the cathodic reaction. Solution flow also altered the preferential dissolution to fast uniform dissolution of metal elements.
In the circumferential welding of pipe, welding phenomenon changes with the position of pipe. Especially in the overhead position, back bead of vertical-up position would be sunk. To investigate the size of back bead and keyhole with the change of the flow rate of pilot and shield gas at each position, bead-on plate welds were conducted on 6mm thickness SS400 with inclined-up position. When the rest of welding conditions remained constant, the width of back bead was increased as the flow rate of pilot gas was increased. And back bead tended to convex as the flow rate of shield gas was increased.

Traditionally aluminum alloy have been used in manufacturing of aircraft structures, and semi-monocoque structural concept have been mainly applied in structural design of fuselage and wing. However, recently monocoque structural concept is applied in many small-size aircraft structures manufactured with composite materials. In such case appling monocoque structural concept, in initial conceptual design stage on wing, it is not easy to analyze shear flow using classical shear flow analytical method because composite skin structure can support span-wise tension/compression stress as well as sectional shear stress. In this study, an extended shear-flow analytical method to apply to composite monocoque structural concept was developed through extending the classical shear-flow analytical method.
In the simultaneous forward-backward extrusion the effects of some process variables including area reduction, stroke advance, materials(Al 2024 and commercial pure copper) on the extrusion load, plastic flow and height ratio of upper to lower extruded parts are experimentally investigated and analyzed. Grid-marking technique is employed to visualize the plastic flow. The influence of using split and original specimen on the extrusion load and height ratio is evaluated by experiments. Experimental results show that the plastic flow if oriented to the part of lower area reduction in the begining but it is usually variated during the overall process. The configurations of plastic deformation and plastic flow are dependent on the working materials and the lubricational conditions.
Wall thinning can be classified into three types: flow-accelerated corrosion, cavitation erosion and solid particle erosion. This article presents a study of solid particle erosion, which frequently causes damages to power plants' pipe system. Unlike previous studies, this study uses a mechanism to make solid particles in a fluid flow collide with pipe materials in underwater condition. Experiment is conducted in three cases of velocity according to solid-water ratio using the three types of the materials of A106B, SS400, and A6061. The experiments were performed for 30 days, and the surface morphology and hardness of the materials were examined for every 7 days. Based on the velocity change of the solid particles in a fluid flow, the surface changes, the change in the amount of erosion, the erosion rate and the variation in the hardness of carbon steel and aluminum family pipe materials can all be determined. In addition, factor-based erosion rates are verified and a wall-thinning relation function is suggested for the pipe materials.
