  • Image matching is fundamental process in photogrammetry and computer vision to identify and to measure corresponding features on the multiple images. Uniqueness of the matching entities and robustness of the algorithm are the key issues that have influence on quality of the matching result. The optimal solution could be obtained by utilizing appropriate matching entities in the first place. In this study, candidate matching points were extracted by interest operator, and an area-based matching method was applied with characteristics of the gray value distribution as the matching entities. The characteristic information is based on the concept of "intrinsic image" (or parameter image). The information was utilized as additional and/or complementary matching entities. Matching on interest points with the characteristic information resulted in high quality of matching because matching windows were created with surrounding pixels of the interest points that contain distinct and unique features. The experiment shows that matching quality and reliability increase by exploiting interest operator, and the characteristic information has potential to be matching entity.

  • Point pattern matching schemes for finger print recognition do not guarantee robust matching performance for finger print images of poor quality. We present a finger print recognition scheme, where transformation parameter of matched ridge pairs are estimated by Hough transform and the matching hypothesis is verified by a new measure of the matching degree using selective directional information. Proposed method may exhibit extremely low FAR(False Accept Ratio) while maintaining low reject ratio even for the images of poor quality because of the robustness to the variation of minutia points.

  • Fingerprint sample quality is one of major factors influencing the matching performance of fingerprint recognition systems. The error rates of fingerprint recognition systems can be decreased significantly by removing poor quality fingerprints. The purpose of this paper is to assess the effectiveness of individual sample quality measures on the performance of minutiae-based fingerprint recognition algorithms. Initially, the authors examined the various factors that influenced the matching performance of the minutiae-based fingerprint recognition algorithms. Then, the existing measures for fingerprint sample quality were studied and the more effective quality measures were selected and compared with two image quality software packages, (NFIQ from NIST, and QualityCheck from Aware Inc.) in terms of matching performance of a commercial fingerprint matcher (Verifinger 5.0 from Neurotechnologija). The experimental results over various Fingerprint Verification Competition (FVC) datasets show that even a single sample quality measure can enhance the matching performance effectively.

  • Delaunay triangulation is suitable for fingerprint matching because of its robustness to rotation and translation. However, missing and spurious minutiae degrade the performance and computational efficiency. In this paper, we propose a method of combining local quality assessment and 4-category minutiae classification to improve accuracy and decrease computational complexity in matching process. Experimental results suggest that removing low quality areas from matching candidate areas and classifying minutiae improve computational efficiency without degrading performance. The results proved that the proposed algorithm outperforms the matching algorithm (BOZORTH3) provided by NIST.

  • This paper describes an adaptive hybrid fingerprint matching method using minutiae, filterbank, and the quality of fingerprint. We estimate the quality of each block in the fingerprint image and extract the probability expectation about the quality of each block. By using this expectation, we could achieve the robust matching rate despite of noise distortion. The matching rate of the proposed method is higher than that of other methods. However, the matching speed is similar with that of others as shown in the results.

  • It is not unusual to observe that there Is a great amount of redundant or inconsistent data even within an e-business system such as CRM(Customer Relationship Management) system. This problem becomes aggravate when we construct a system of which information are gathered from different sources. Data quality management is indeed needed to avoid any possible redundant or inconsistent data in such information system. A data quality process, in general, consists of three phases: data cleaning (scrubbing), matching, and integration phase. In this paper, we introduce and categorize data quality operators for each phase. Then, we describe our distance function used in the matching phase, and present a matching algorithm PRIMAL (a PRactical Matching Algorithm). And finally, we present a related work and future research.

  • Bridge engineering documents have essential contents that must be referenced continuously throughout a structure's entire life cycle, but research related to the quality of the contents is still lacking. XML schema matching is an excellent technique to improve the quality of stored data; however, it takes excessive computing time when applied to documents with many contents and a deep hierarchical structure, such as bridge engineering documents. Moreover, it requires a manual parametric study for matching elements' weight factors, maintaining a high matching accuracy. This study proposes an efficient weight-factor determination method based on an artificial neural network (ANN) model using the simplified XML schema-matching method proposed in a previous research to reduce the computing time. The ANN model was generated and verified using 580 data of document properties, weight factors, and matching accuracy. The proposed ANN-based schema-matching method showed superiority in terms of accuracy and efficiency compared with the previous study on XML schema matching for bridge engineering documents.

  • A new block matching algorithm that improved the existing block matching algorithm in terms of image quality is proposed in this paper. The subblock of image including the vertical edge of object is subdivided into new two subblocks, and the moving vector found. The result of computer simulation shows on real image that the image quality by the algorithm becomes higher than that of the three step search algorithm by 1.1dB.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast partial distortion algorithm using normalized dithering matching scan to get uniform distribution of partial distortion which can reduce only unnecessary computation significantly. Our algorithm is based on normalized dithering order matching scan and calibration of threshold error using LOG value for each sub-block continuously for efficient elimination of unlike candidate blocks while keeping the same prediction quality compared with the full search algorithm. Our algorithm reduces about 60% of computations for block matching error compared with conventional PDE (partial distortion elimination) algorithm without any prediction quality, and our algorithm will be useful to real-time video coding applications using MPEG-4 AVC or MPEG-2.
