This paper proposes some technical approaches for automatic detection of pulmonary nodules in chest X-ray images. We applied threshold technique for the lung field segmentation and extended the lung field by using morphological methods. A template matching technique was employed for automatic detecting nodules in lung area. Genetic algorithm(GA) was used in template matching(TM) to select a matched image from various reference patterns(simulated typical nodules). We eliminated the false-positive candidates by using histograms and contrasts. We used standard databases published by Japanese Society of Radiological Technology (JSRT) for correct results. Also we employ two-dimensional Gaussian distribution for some reference images because the shadow of lung nodules in radiogram generally shows the distributions. Nodules of about 89% were correctly detected by our scheme. The simulation results show that it is an effective method to indicate lesions on chest radiograms.
KOMPSAT-2 like other high-resolution satellites has the time and angle difference in the acquisition of the panchromatic (PAN) and multispectral (MS) images because the imaging systems have the offset of the charge coupled device combination in the focal plane. Due to the differences, high altitude and moving objects, such as clouds, have a different position between the PAN and MS images. Therefore, a mis-registration between the PAN and MS images occurs when a registration algorithm extracted matching points from these cloud objects. To overcome this problem, we proposed a new registration method. The main idea is to discard the matching points extracted from cloud boundaries by using an automatic thresholding technique and a classification technique on a distance disparity map of the matching points. The experimental result demonstrates the accuracy of the proposed method at ground region around cloud objects is higher than a general method which does not consider cloud objects. To evaluate the proposed method, we use KOMPSAT-2 cloudy images.
Video Completion refers to a computer vision technique which restores damaged images by filling missing pixels with suitable color in a video sequence. We propose a new video completion technique to fill in image holes which are caused by removing an unnecessary object in a video sequence, where two objects cross each other in the presence of camera motion. We remove the closer object from a camera which results in image holes. Then these holes are filled by color information of some others frames. First of all, spatio-temporal volumes of occluding and occluded objects are created according to the centroid of the objects. Secondly, a temporal search technique by voxel matching separates and removes the occluding object. Finally. these holes are filled by using spatial search technique. Seams on the boundary of completed pixels we removed by a simple blending technique. Experimental results using real video sequences show that the proposed technique produces new completed videos.

In this paper a fast matching method using subtemplate and search and down technique to reduce very heavy computational load of the conventional matching method, is presented The proposed method is spplied to an automatic target tracker in order to track one moving object in comparatively simple backgoriund. Experimental results show that istperformanced is not so degraded in spite of high computational reduction as that of the conventional matching method.
In this paper, a design method of matching layers is presented for the sandwich type broad band underwater acoustic vibrators. The characteristic impedances of matching layers are determined to be matched to the characteristic impedance of head mass material. For the dynamic characteristic analysis of the sandwich type transducers, one dimensional FEM technique is also introduced. A test vibrator with the quarter wave matching layers has been designed to verify the proposed method. And the wide band characteristics of the input impedance and transmitting voltage response (TVR) are investigated.
This paper describes a corner matching technique for automatic relative orientation. Automatically matched corner points from stereo aerial images are used to a data set and help to improve automation of relative orientation process. A general corner matching process of overall image to image has very heavy operation and repetitive computation, so very time-consuming. But aerial stereo images are approximately seventy percent overlapped and little rotated. Based this hypothesis, we designed a sectional corner matching technique calculating correlation section by section between stereo images. Although the overlap information is not accurate, if we know it approximately, the matching process can be lighter. Since the size of aerial image is very large, corner extraction process is performed hierarchically by creating image pyramid, and corners extracted are refined at the higher level image. Extracted corners at the final step are matched section by section. Matched corners are filtered using positional information and their relation and distribution. Filtering process is applied over several steps because the thing affecting to get good result-good relative orientation parameter- is not the number of matched corner points but the accuracy of them. Filtered data is filtered one more during the process calculating relative orientation parameters. When the process is finished, we can get the well matched corner points and the refined Von-Gruber areas besides relative orientation parameters. This sectional corner matching technique is efficient by decreasing unnecessarily repetitive operations and contributes to improve automation for relative orientation.
Stereo camera is drawing attention as an essential sensor for future intelligence robot system since it has the advantage of acquiring not only distance but also other additive information for an object. However, it cannot match correlated point on target image for low textured region or periodic patterned region such as wall of building or room. In this paper, we propose a stereo matching technique that increase the matching performance by fusing belief propagation stereo matching algorithm and local distance measurements of 2D-laser range finder in order to overcome this kind of limitation. The proposed technique adds laser measurements by referring quad-tree based segment information on to the local-evidence of belief propagation stereo matching algorithm, and calculates compatibility function by reflecting over-segmented information. Experimental results of the proposed method using simulation and real test images show that the distance information for some low textured region can be acquired and the discontinuity of depth information is preserved by using segmentation information.
Using satellite images, an optimal solution to water motion has been presented in this study. Since temperature patterns are suitable tracers in water motion, Sea Surface Temperature (SST) images of Caspian Sea taken by MODIS sensor on board Terra satellite have been used in this study. Two daily SST images with 24 hours time interval are used as input data. Computation of templates correspondence between pairs of images is crucial within motion algorithms using non-rigid body objects. Image matching methods have been applied to estimate water body motion within the two SST images. The least squares matching technique, as a flexible technique for most data matching problems, offers an optimal spatial solution for the motion estimation. The algorithm allows for simultaneous local radiometric correction and local geometrical image orientation estimation. Actually, the correspondence between the two image templates is modeled both geometrically and radiometrically. Geometric component of the model includes six geometric transformation parameters and radiometric component of the model includes two radiometric transformation parameters. Using the algorithm, the parameters are automatically corrected, optimized and assessed iteratively by the least squares algorithm. The method used in this study, has presented more efficient and robust solution compared to the traditional motion estimation schemes.
In this paper, we notice that the original NTSS algorithm can be proposed as the NTSS-3 Level algorithm by the multi-resolution technique. The fast block matching algorithm affects the speed by the patten combination and this paper proposes the block matching algorithm in different levels by multi-resolution technique, quite different from the original NTSS Patten. The block matching algorithm requires the multi-candidate to reduce the occurrence of low-image quality by the local minima problem. The simulation result compared to FS shows search speed 16 times quicker, and the PSNR 0.11-0.12[dB] gets improved Image quality compared to the original fast block matching algorithm NTSS, and the speed is improved up to 0.1 times for improved image by the search point portion.

A reactive-loaded interstitial antenna(RLIA) is proposed for 2.45 GHz. It basically consists of a coaxial cable and a reactive load(RL). The RL is tipped at the end of the antenna and contributes to almost perfect matching and desirable heating area. For the almost perfect matching, a matching technique based on transmission line theory is suggested and the RLIA immersed in muscle phantom is designed, fabricated, measured and compared. The measured return loss of the RLIA is - 28.377 dB, which may be considered the best among those reported. Due to the excellent matching performance, the RLIA can also be applied for the treatment of deep-seated tumor or cancer with only one RLIA.
