  • The high peak-to-average power is one of the main drawbacks in OFDM systems. This letter proposes a partial shift mapping (PSM) method for peak power reduction in OFDM systems. By utilizing the properties of the discrete Fourier transform, the proposed method generates a set of candidate signals without additional complex multiplication and selects the one with minimum peak power for transmission. Analyses and simulations confirm that the PSM method achieves satisfactory peak power reduction performance and low complexity compared with other kindred methods, for example, selected mapping and partial transmit sequences.

  • Most existing algorithms adopt the forward mapping method that is based on vector representation. Problem of existing algorithms Is the exponential increase of memory usage with number of layers. This degrades the accuracy of the boundary pattern representation. Our method uses bitmap representation and does not require any additional post-processing for conversion of vector-form results to bitmap-form. A new and efficient algorithm is presented in this paper for the generation of hyperbolic patterns by means of backward mapping methods.

  • Reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) is a powerful tool for design optimization when considering probabilistic characteristics of design variables. However, it is often computationally intensive because of the coupling of reliability analysis and cost minimization. In this study, the concept of reliability mapping function is defined based on the relationship between the reliability index obtained by using the mean value first order reliability method and the failure probability obtained by using an improved response surface method. Double-loop involved in the classical RBDO can be converted into single-loop by using the reliability mapping function. Since the computational effort of the mean value first order reliability method is minimal, RBDO by using reliability mapping functions should be highly efficient. Engineering examples are given to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method. Numerical results indicated that the proposed method has the similar accuracy as Monte Carlo simulation, and it can obviously reduce the computational effort.

  • We studied the methods to utilize vehicle-based mobile mapping system for field investigation work of digital map generation process. Map layers which should be checked by field investigation were analyzed to find the possibility of being checked with data from vehicle-based mobile mapping system. Also new process for digital map generation were suggested to adopt field investigation by vehicle-based mobile mapping system. We performed field investigation work on the Kangneung area by vehicle-based mobile mapping on a trial bases and compared the results with a results from usual field investigation method.

  • This paper presents an efficient method of mapping Boolean equations to a set of library gates. The proposed system performs technology mapping by graph covering. To select optimal area cover, a new cost function and local area optimization are proposed. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm produces effective mapping using given library.

  • Nowadays the magnetic field mapping is widely used in the design and analysis of the NMR/MRI magnet system, and the accuracy of mapping result has become more and more important. There are several factors affecting the accuracy of the mapping such as the mapping method, the precision of the sensor, the position of the measurement points, the calculation accuracy, and so on. In this paper the error due to the misalignment of the measurement points was discussed. The magnetic field in the central volume was mapped using an indirect method in an MRI magnet system and the magnetic field was fitted to a polynomial. Considering the misalignment between the original measurement points and the practical measurement points, there must be some errors in the mapping calculation and we called it positioning error. Several comparisons of the positioning error have been presented through the theoretical estimates and the exact magnetic field values. Finally, the allowable positioning errors were suggested to guarantee the accuracy of the magnetic field mapping within a certain degree for an example case.

  • This paper presents noisy speech recognition method based on spectral mapping techniques of speaker adaptation method. In the presented method, the spectral mapping training makes the spectral distortion of noisy speech reduced, and for the more correctively spectral mapping, let the adjustment window;s slope be adaptive to several word lengths. As a result of recognition experiment, the recognition rate is higher than that of the conventional method using VQ and DTW without noise processing. Even when SNR level is 0 dB, the recognition rate is 10 times more than that using the conventional method. It is confirmed that the speacker adaptation technique using the spectral mapping training has an ability to improve the recognition performance for noisy speech.

  • This paper describes an analysis on the granular noise in pixel-to-pixel mapping-based computational integral imaging. The pixel mapping-based method provides a high-resolution reconstructed images and also its computational cost is very lower than the previous back-projection-based method. In this paper, a signal model for the pixel mapping-based method is introduced, which defines and analyzes the granular noise. Computer experiments provides the granular noise properties based on the proposed signal model. The experimental results indicates that the granular noise pattern differs from that of the back-projection based method. The results is also utilized in the pixel mapping-based method.

  • Texture mapping is mostly used as an image synthesis method in the model-based coding system. An image synthesis using this method uses only the texture information of a front face-view. Therefore, when the model is rotated, texture mapping may produce an awkward image in point of shading. In this paper. a new texture mapping method considering shading effect is studied, and also the ear's wireframe and changes of hair are suplemented for the relation. The experimental results show that the proposed method yields the synthesized images with reasonably natural quality.

  • An inverse finite element approach is employed for more capability to design the optimum blank shape from the desired final shape with small amount of computation time and effort. In some drawing or stamping simulation with inverse method, it is difficult to apply inverse scheme due to the large aspect ratio or steep vertical angle of inclination. The reason is that initial guesses are hard to make out with present method for those cases. In this paper, a direct mesh marring scheme to generate initial guess on the sliding constraint surface described by finite element patches is suggested for one step inverse analysis to calculate initial blank shape. Radial type mapping is adopted for the simulation of rectangular cup drawing process with large aspect ratio and parallel type mapping for the simulation of S-Rail forming process with steep vertical angle of inclination.
