  • Handwritten text recognition is one of the active research areas nowadays. The progress in this field differs in every language. For example, the progress in Arabic handwritten text recognition is still insignificant and needs more attentions and efforts. One of the most important fields in this is Arabic handwritten manuscript text recognition which focuses in extracting text from historical manuscripts. For eons, ancients used manuscripts to write everything. Nowadays, there are millions of manuscripts all around the world. There are two main challenges in dealing with these manuscripts. The first one is that they are at the risk of damage since they are written in primitive materials, the second challenge is due to the difference in writing styles, hence most people are unable to read these manuscripts easily. Therefore, we discuss in this study different papers that are related to this important research field.

Paragraphs and sentences of manuscripts are dotted with words and expressions of foreign languages such as Japanese, Chinese, English, and very long sentences. Undesirable expressions include also contradictory meanings, difficult expressions using Chinese characters, and incorrect sentences and wordings, and etc. Some recommendations for good manuscripts written in Korean are suggested. They include reading of science books for general readers and drilling for writing good manuscripts in Korean. Writing manuscripts in ample time, discussions with colleagues, and open-minded mentality of authors to accept critics are included in the drilling for writing good manuscripts. Editorial board should also check the manuscripts before printing.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analysis the manuscripts rejected for publication in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration during the last three years six months (2012~2015 Jun). Methods: Seventy eight rejected manuscripts were analyzed focusing on manuscripts characteristics, such as rejection rates, year of submission, occupation of first author and corresponding author, number of authors, funding, thesis or dissertation, article type, study participants, number of reviews prior to rejection, and 3rd reviewer. Also reviewers' quantitative evaluation scores and subjective comments were analyzed. Reviewers' subjective comments were analyzed using content analysis methodology. Results: The mean rate for manuscript rejection was 28.9% and for quantitative research, qualitative research, and review papers the quantitative evaluation scores were $2.54{\pm}0.70$, $2.39{\pm}0.69$, and $2.39{\pm}0.69$ out of 5 points, respectively. The most frequent subjective comment on rejected manuscripts was 'lack of rationale for research need'. Conclusion: In this study the characteristics and the reasons for rejecting manuscripts were identified. These findings can be used in developing effective strategies for researchers, reviewers and editors to improve the quality of research and research reviews of nursing administration research.

  • The record is both an palmistry and a fingerprint for human life and world of knowledge. Books, which are synonymous with records, are a channel through which history is traced and a window to savor. And the most primitive form of the book is the classics of ancient Greece and Rome, and the best part is the manuscript. It refers to the original recorded on papyrus, parchment, paper, etc. and the translated and translated copies of them. If we reflect on the long history of knowledge and culture, the classic manuscripts have continued to scatter and collect like a river flowing through time and space due to not only natural disasters, but also artificial cultural vandalism and the bibliocaust. Therefore, this study traced and linked the wandering and library return of classic manuscripts from ancient Greece to the medieval Renaissance period. As a result, dynasties and empires, monarchs and prime ministers, generals and conquerors, nobles and wealthy, clergy and scholars concentrated on collecting and translating classical manuscripts. If the ancient Greek and Roman scholars did not record knowledge and wisdom in papyrus and parchment, the medieval Byzantine and Islamic Empires did not collect, translate and reproduce classics, the book hunters didn't keep track of the classics, the Renaissance humanists did not restore and reinterpret the classics through intellectual exodus, and the historical library did not collect and preserve the classics and their translations, modern people would not have access to classical knowledge. Nevertheless, the tracing of classical manuscripts is an aporia in which many difficulties and contradictions overlap in the tracing of classic manuscripts due to historical flow, geographical wandering, and linguistic transformation. When a new manuscript is discovered and interpreted, correction and supplementation are inevitable, so the pursuit of the wandering and return of the classic manuscripts through follow-up research must be continued.

  • Objective : We analyzed the published and contributed manuscripts of the journal of Oriental Internal Medicine in 2001. Methods : We analysed 120 manuscripts contributed to the editorial board of Journal of Oriental Internal Medicine from January to December 2001. Each manuscript was reviewed by three judges, was reviewed by two editors of the board and who took notes on the coding sheet. The variables of surveying were yes or no of acceptance, total scores, score of each 9 item, the number of writers and institutes, and languages. Statistical methods were used such as descriptive analysis, independent samples t test, ANOVA, multiple composition, multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results : THe odds ratio in vivo, in vitro study for clinical study were 5.15(95% CI 1.93-13.71), and case series or case-control study for case report were 3.78(95% CI, 1.28-11.19) Conclusions : Although in vivo, the in vitro study had more possibility of acceptance to publish than the clinical study, we should identify that these results are assuming high inter-reviewer reliability.

  • This article shows a case of constructing appraisal system of manuscripts based on records of korean democratization movements. This appraisal system of manuscripts not only intends to select records according to value but also realizes a strategy that maximizes efficacy of resources for record management through distinction of record management process based on value of records. After all, this strategy provides manuscript repositories a beneficial benchmarking case of appraisal system of manuscripts which are confronting with disposing problem of enormous mount of records without original order, and are intending maximization of efficacy of resources for record management through distinction of record management process based on value of records.

  • This paper illustrates preliminary modeling for University Archives Management System(UAMS) construction. University must install Intermediate Archives(records and archives) facilities and management system by Public Records and Archives Act(PRA). But it is very difficult to generalize UAMS because University co-exists public and its own characteristic. For UAMS modeling, this paper first identifies University document's production creators and documental boundary. Then it is studied how University archives management is operated and what archives system by PRA means in University. Second systematic connection plan of Intermediate Archives(records and archives) facilities and manuscripts management is surveyed through National Universities and complementary things are presented. Finally through the above study UAMS model is suggested as future-oriented University archives management. UAMS model suggested from this study includes as follows. First manuscripts management as present Records and Archives system's standard function extension. Second manuscripts management system as system management area's extension using in Universities. It is desirable to extend to expert archives system. Finally integrated operating system model for using actively records, archives and manuscripts management systems operating in Universities.
