충치에서 분리한 Streptococci에 관하여 (Characterization of Streptococci Isolated from Human Dental Plaque)

  • 충치 sample 50개에서 46 strains의 Streptococcus sp.를 분리하여 그 생리적 특징을 조사한 바 1. 대부분의 균주들이 non-haemolytic strain이었으며, 2. 기질로 maltose, inulin, mannitol, sorbisI, lactose, mannabinose를 분해하여 산을 생성하고 arabinose와 xylose는 균주에 따라 차이를 보였으며, 3. Sucrose broth에서는 거의 gel을 형성하였다.

  • The methanol extract of the rootbark of Fraxinus sieboldiana Blume(Oleaceae) gave two coumarin glycosides, fraxin (fraxetin-8-glucoside), $C_{16}H_{18}O_{10},\;mp\;204^{\circ}\;and\;esculin\;(esculetin-6-glucoside),\;C_{15}H_{16}O_{9},\;mp\;204{\sim}205^{\circ}$. Beside, the methanol extract of the root bark was found to contain mannitol. ${\beta}-sitosterol$ is confirmed by massspectrometry.

  • The diuretic action of guanethidine was investigated in the dogs by means of the stop-flow technique. Guanethidine increased the rejection of sodium in the ascending limb of Henle's loop, as well as in the proximal and distal tubules, resulting in the decrease of the concentrating ability of the kidney, in marked natriuresis and diuresis. It was also effective during an osomotic diuresis, which was induced by infusing 10% mannitol can exhibit its effect even under the diuretic action of mercurophylline, suggesting a different mechanism from that of mercuric iuretics.

인삼제품에서 분리한 부패성 효모의 특성 (Characterization of the Spoilage Yeast Isolated from Ginseng Product)

  • A yeast was isolated from the spoiled ginseng product. The isolate was ellipsoidal shaped yeast measured around 2.0 to 2.5 w in diameter. The strain formed pseudomycelium on potato-dextrose agar medium. The isolated yeast used glucose as fermentable sugar, and showed assimilation activity for glucose, sorbitol and mannitol. The strain was also able to grow in the presence of 1% acetic acid and 50% (w/v) glucose-yeast extract agar. The isolated osmophilic yeast was identified as a strain of Zygosauharomyce sp.

  • A series of novel cyclopropyl nucleosides was synthesized using the highly stereoselective Simmons-Smith reaction starting from 1,2:5,6-di-Ο-isopropylidene-D-mannitol. The structural assignments of these nucleosides were determined by NMR studies and X-ray crystallography. All the synthesized nucleosides were assayed against several viruses.

  • Actinomycetes CS0703 has been isolated in soil sample from location in the Jeju province. Korea. and produces alkaline extracellular proteases. To maximize protease production, initial pH of the culture medium was adjusted to 12.0 with NaOH and incubated at $48^{\circ}C$ on a rotary shaking incubator(180rpm). Actinomycetes CS0703 produced high level of protease at late exponential phase when grown in OSYM medium (oatmeal 2.0%. soybean meal 1%. dried yeast 1%. mannitol 1%). (omitted)

산 농도 및 염 농도가 다시마 에탄올 발효에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Acid and Salt Content on the Ethanol Production from Laminaria japonica)

  • 본 연구는 갈조류인 다시마를 이용한 생물학적 바이오 에탄올 생산 과정에서 산 및 염 농도가 미치는 영향과 다시마에 포함된 다당류 성분 중 에탄올로 전환 가능한 유용 기질에 대해 연구하였다. 다시마를 이용한 에탄올 발효에는 Saccharomyces cerevisiae KCCM1129를 이용하였으며, 고압멸균기를 이용한 열 처리 다시마에서 최대 2.09 g/L의 에탄올 생산을 확인할 수 있었다. 산 전처리 과정을 통해 1.0 N HCl에서 최대 3.95 g/L의 환원당이 생성되었으나 에탄올 생산은 오히려 산 처리를 하지 않은 배지에서 더욱 높게 나타났다. 산 처리시 생성되는 염의 영향을 확인 결과 염 농도의 증가에 따라 에탄올 발효가 저해되는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 갈조류 주요 구성 다당류를 이용한 발효에서 mannitol만이 열처리에서 최대 3.09 g/L까지 에탄올로 전환 가능한 것으로 확인되었으며, laminaran의 경우 0.1 N HCl을 처리하였을 때 0.15 g/L의 소량의 에탄올 생산이 확인되었으며, 산 처리에서 세포 성장이 다른 기질에 비해 크게 증가하는 것으로 나타났다.

Influence of Carbon and Nitrogen Sources in Solubilization of Hardly Soluble Mineral Phosphates by Penicillium Oxalicum CBPS-Tsa

  • Phosphorus is one of the major plant growth limiting nutrients, despite being abundant in soils in both inorganic and organic forms. Phosphobioinoculants in the form of microorganisms can help in increasing the availability of accumulated phosphates for plant growth by solubilization. Penicillium oxalicum CBPSTsa, isolated from paddy rhizosphere, was studied for its phosphate solubilization. The influence of various carbon sources like glucose, sucrose, mannitol and sorbitol and nitrogen sources like arginine, sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate, ammonium chloride and ammonium sulphate were evaluated using liquid media with tricalcium phosphate (Ca-P), ferric phosphate (Fe-P) and aluminium phosphate (Al-P). Maximum soluble phosphate of 824 mg/L was found in the amendment of sucrose-sodium nitrate from 5 g/L of Ca-P. Mannitol, sorbitol, and ariginine were poor in phosphate solubilization. While sucrose was better carbon source in solubilization of Ca-P and Al-P, glucose fared better in solubilization of Fe-P. Though all the nitrogen sources enhanced P solubilization, nitrates were better than ammonium In the amendments of ammonium chloride and ammonium sulphate, higher uptake of available phosphates by the fungus was found, and this resulted in depletion of available P in Fe-P amendment Phosphate solubilization was accompanied by acidification of the media, and the highest pH decrease was observed in glucose amendment Among the nitrogen sources, ammonium chloride favored greater pH decrease.

  • As imaging technology develops, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques have contributed to the understanding of brain function by providing anatomical structure of the brain and functional imaging related to information processing. Manganese-enhanced MRI (MEMRI) techniques can provide useful information about functions of the nervous system. However, systematic studies regarding information processing of pain have not been conducted. The purpose of this study was to detect brain activation during painful electrical stimulation using MEMRI with high spatial resolution. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (250-300 g) were divided into 3 groups: normal control, sham stimulation, and electric stimulation. Rats were anesthetized with 2.5% isoflurane for surgery. Polyethylene catheter (PE-10) was placed in the external carotid artery to administrate mannitol and MnCl2. The blood brain barrier (BBB) was broken by 20% D-mannitol under anesthesia mixed with urethane and a-chloralose. The hind limb was electrically stimulated with a 2Hz (10V) frequency while MnCl2 was infused. Brain activation induced by electrical stimulation was detected using a 4.7 T MRI. Remarkable signal enhancement was observed in the primary sensory that corresponds to sensory tactile stimulation at the hind limb region. These results suggest that signal enhancement is related to functional activation following electrical stimulation of the peripheral receptive field.

  • 이태리포푸라 I-214 (Populus euramericana cv. I-214)의 기내배양(器內培養)한 엽육조직(葉肉組織)에서 원형질체(原形質體) 분리(分離)에 미치는 몇가지 요인(要因)에 대(對)해 조사(調査), 검토(檢討)하였다. 기내(器內)에서 배양(培養)된 아(芽)를 다량(多量)으로 증식(增植)하기 위한 배지(培地)는 MS 기본배지(基本培地)에 $0.1mg/{\ell}$의 BAP를 첨가(添加)한 것이 가상 좋은 성적을 나타냈다. 엽(葉) 1g 당(當) $2.4{\times}10^6$개의 가장 높은 원형질체(原形質體) 분리(分離) 빈도를 나타낸 것은 Cellulase R-10 2 %, Macerozyme R-10 0.8 %, Hemicellulase 1.2 %, Driselase 2.0 %, Pectolyase Y-23 0.05 %에 DTT와 MES 완충액을 첨가(添加)한 후 삼투압 안정제로 0.6 M의 Mannitol을 넣고 pH를 5.6으로 조정한 효소용액(酵素溶液)이었다. CPW 용액(溶液)으로 세정(洗淨)한 후 0.6 M의 Sucrose 용액(溶液)에 처리(處理)한 것이 회수율(回收率) 51.8 %로 가장 높게 나타났다.
