  • In this paper, we propose a sliding mode controller for a robot manipulator with passive joints. A robot manipulator with passive joints which are not equipped with any actuators is a kind of underactuated system. Underactuated systems have some advantages compared to fully-actuated ones. For example, they weigh less and consume less energy because they have smaller number of components than fully-actuated ones. However the control of an underactuated manipulator is much more difficult than that of fully- actuated robot manipulator. In this paper a complex dynamic model of a manipulator with passive joints is manipulated for sliding mode control. Sliding mode controllers are designed for this complex system and the stability of the controllers is proved mathematically. Finally a simulation for this control system is executed for evaluating the effectiveness of the designed sliding mode controller.

  • We implemented a real-time servo system for a manipulator based on Laser Range Finder (LRF). and established algorithms for grasping a moving cylinder. We devised a manipulator mechanism and driving hardware based on a system board equipped with Xscale Processor with real-time operating system RTAI on Linux. The manipulator motor driver is connected to the system board via CAN communication link, and LRF is connected via RS-232C. We implemented real-time software including CAN device driver, RS-232C device driver, manipulator trajectory generator, and LRF control software. A typical application experiment for grasping a cylinder with circle motion demonstrated our system's real-time performance.

  • This paper presents on approach to the position control of a robot manipulator by using a decentralized adaptive control scheme. The large scale system is regarded as the system which consists of many subsystems having interconnection. In each subsystem, a local control system is composed by feedforward and feedback component, one computes the nominal torque from the Newton-Euler equation, the other computes the perturbation equation which reduce the position error of the manipulator along the nominal trajectory. A computer simulation studies was conducted to evaluate and compare the performances of the proposed manipulator control scheme with those of the PD control and centralized control schemes.

  • A teleoperated manipulator system has been developed for remote handling of the spent fuel bundles. A heavy-duty power manipulator with high reduction ratio joints is used for the slave manipulator in the developed system since the handling tasks of the spent fuel bundles need power. Also, the universal type master manipulator, which has force reflecting capability, is used for precise remote manipulation. The power manipulators so frequently occur the control input saturation that the precise control performances are not achieved due to the windup phenomenon. An advanced bilateral control scheme compensating for the saturation is applied to the teleoperated manipulator system. The validity of the developed system is verified by the grid cutting and fuel transportation tasks from the mockup spent fuel bundle.

  • Since the world has changed to a society of 21st century high-tech industries, the modern people have become reluctant to work in a difficult and dirty environment. Therefore, unmanned technologies through robots are being demanded. Now days, effects such as voice, control, obstacle avoidance are being suggested, and especially, voice recognition technique that enables convenient interaction between human and machines is very important. In this study, in order to conduct study on the stable motion control of the robot system that has mobile-manipulator structure and is voice command-based, kinetic interpretation and dynamic modeling of two-armed manipulator and three-wheel mobile robot were conducted. In addition, autonomous driving of three-wheel mobile robot and motion control system of two-armed manipulator were designed, and combined robot control through voice command was conducted. For the performance experiment method, driving control and simulation mock experiment of manipulator that has two-armed structure was conducted, and for experiment of combined robot motion control which is voice command-based, through driving control, motion control of two-armed manipulator, and combined control based on voice command, experiment on stable motion control of voice command-based robot system that has mobile-manipulator structure was verified.

  • A heavy duty power manipulator consisting of high reduction ratio joints is usually used in heavy duty tasks. When the heavy duty power manipulator is used as the slave manipulator in the teleoperated bilateral control system, the position control performance of the slave manipulator and the system stability tend to deteriorate due to the windup phenomenon caused by actuator saturation. KAERI has developed a teleoperated bilateral control system for the study of the remote handling of a spent fuel mockup bundle, which has an enhanced bilateral control algorithm improving the position tracking performance of the slave manipulator while compensating for the windup phenomenon. In this paper, the developed bilateral control system ...

  • In this paper, it is presented an adaptive robust control system to implement real-time control of a robot manipulator. There are Quantitative or qualitative differences between a real robot manipulator and a robot modeling. In order to compensate these differences, uncertain factors are added to a robot modeling. The uncertain factors come from imperfect knowledge of system parameters, payload change, friction, external disturbance, etc. Also, uncertainty is often nonlinear and time-varying. In the proceeding work, we proposed a class of robust control of a robot manipulator and provided the stability analysis. In the work, we propose a class of adaptive robust control of robot manipulator with bound estimation. Through experiments, the proposed adaptive robust control scheme is proved to be an efficient control technique for real-time control of a robot system using DSP.

  • In this paper, we propose a tracking control method for a quadrotor equipped with a 2-DOF manipulator, which is based on the multiple sliding surface control (MSSC) method. To derive the model of a quadrotor equipped with a 2-DOF manipulator, we obtain the models of a quadrotor and a 2-DOF manipulator based on the Lagrange-Euler formulation separately - and include the inertia and the reactive torque generated by a manipulator when these obtained models are combined. To make a quadrotor equipped with a manipulator track the desired path, we design a double-loop controller. The desired position is converted into the desired angular position in the outer controller and the system's angle tracks the desired angular position through the inner controller based on the MSSC method. We prove that the position-tracking error asymptotically converges to zero based on the Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control system through a computer simulation.

  • The position control accuracy of a robot manipulator is significantly deteriorated when a long arm robot is operated at a high speed. This paper presents a very simple sliding mode control which eliminates multiple mode residual vibration in a 개bot manipulator. The neural network is used to avoid that sliding mode condition is deviated due to the change of system parameter and disturbance. This paper is suggested control system which designed by sliding mode controller using neural network. The effectiveness of proposed scheme is demonstrated through computer simulation.
