For the development of flow duration curves for the management of 41 Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) units of the Nakdong River basin, first, an equation for estimating daily flow rates as well as the level of correlation (correlation and determination coefficients) was extrapolated through regression analysis of discrete (Ministry of Environment) and continuous (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation) measurement data. The equation derived from the analysis was used to estimate daily flow rates in order to develop flow duration curves for each TMDL unit. By using the equation, the annual flow duration curves and flow curves, for the entire period and for each TMDL unit of the basin, were developed to be demonstrated in this research. Standard flow rates (abundant-, ordinary-, low- and drought flows) for major flow duration periods were calculated based on the annual flow duration curves. Then, the flow rates, based on percentile ranks of exceedance probabilities (5, 25, 50, 75, and 95%), were calculated according to the flow duration curves for the entire period and are suggested in this research. These results can be used for feasibility assessment of the set values of primary and secondary standard flow rates for each river system, which are derived from complicated models. In addition, they will also be useful for the process of implementing TMDL management, including evaluation of the target level of water purity based on load duration curves.
This study was carried out as the Anyang creek water quality management using Geographic Information System (GIS) is the purpose of this pilot project to apply a GIS to environmental management field. Analysis of water quality data has been investigated using GIS with modeling of water quality management for the Anyang creek. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1. The concentration of Mercury in sediment was increased rapidly nearby A26(Nightsoil Treatment Plant) and maximum was showed at A18 (Imgok bridge). Cadmium was increased rapidly at A35(Chulsan bridge). 2. River water quality management using visible computer system as GIS is effective to make decision for water quality management plan and database of environmental factors should be completed before applying GIS. 3. When water pollution accident is occurred in the river water system, pollutant source can be traced and analysed systematically using GIS to manage pollutants discharged into the river water system.
This study is aimed to analyze fishermen's perception and the economic feasibility of inland waters ranching project on the branches of Geum River. Analysis of fishermen's perception on the branches of Geum River showed that fishermen had an affirmative response on the inland freshwater ranching project related issues such as fisheries resources enhancement, necessity of project, economic achievement as so on. A making a decision of construction cost has important meaning and function for both contractor and owner in construction projects. Especially, it should be premised that estimating the construction cost in efficient and rational way in public construction, which is invested by government funds, for efficient execution of the budget and investment as a side of government. The systematic methodology for estimating construction cost approximately of a river facility construction project has not yet been established because of its unique characteristics including its relatively small project size in terms of cost. On this study, It collect and analyze a river facility construction historical cost data for develop an approximate cost estimating model for river applied by typical embankment section method and rate application of the others activity type. And it verify suitability of model through a that result of application of real river facility construction statement at developed model. By this study, it is expected to reasonable and systematic estimating construction cost through application of developed model.
To drive efficiently total water pollution load management, needs to calculate the exact load emissions, pollution load allocation and implementation evaluation in each unit area of watershed and accurate and regular flow of data. For these reasons, the Nakdong River TMDL Research Center has produced directly or indirectly in the average interval of eight days (30 times or more / year) 41 points for unit area of the total water pollution load management and 8-point of municipal requirement for a total of 49 branches as a flow data in 2004 from August. This acquired the survey flow is evidence of trends and changes each point in the Nakdong River based on time, such as 10 years based on average design flow available to the foundation of the summit as the major water policy is to be utilized. This study was performed on actual discharge measuring data and introduced performance results each drainage basin of Nakdong River from 2004 to 2008 over the total of past five years.
According to Geum-River restoration project, given conditions for management of water environment in the Geum-River were changed. Because of those changes, this study was investigated the establishment of water quality standards and water quality target in the Geum-River basin. For management of water environment in the Geum-River, the sub-basins and watersheds are newly divided and the water quality and ecosystem standards in the sub-basins are reestablished. Considering the consistency of water environment policy and legal system, the legal name of sub-basins and watersheds are unified. TMDL (total maximum daily load) should be implemented in the sub-basin where exceeds the water quality standards and the number of water pollutant among the water quality parameters which exceeds the water quality standards are extremely minimized. The water quality target of water pollutant for implementation of TMDL should be established same or higher concentration of water quality standards.
The local storm occurred Nakdong river basin from August 4 to 11 of the year 2002, resulting in a record 500-600mm rainfall. The heavy rain continued for more than 10 days and especially between 3 to 4 am of August 9, 50mm per hour local storm occurred in Hanrim-myun area, Kimhae. 8 days after the storm, the water level of Nakdong river rose rapidly and the river flowed backward the branches. T he draining of the protected low wetland was unable and the water level of the inner bank area rose suddenly, causing the inundation in several areas. Baeksan bank of Nam river, Gahyun(Samhak) bank of Hwang river, and Kwangam bank of Shinban river, where the draining facilities were under construction or constructed recently, were failed by the piping around the draining culvert. This study analyze the cause of the damage in Nakdong river banks and suggests the countermeasures for future improvement. The damaged spot of the river bank was surveyed, and the rainfall and the fluctuation in the water levels were reviewed. Finally for the flood inundation prevention at the inner bank area, new floodplain management plan as the protect of low wetland established.

Reproductive dysfunction is a major health concern amongst the inhabitants of Tana River County. An ethno botanical study was conducted in Garsen, Itsowe and Ngao sub divisions of Tana River County to document the utilization of medicinal plants for the management of female reproductive ailments. The target population was practicing herbalists from Pokomo, Ormo and Giryama communities in the study area. Structured questionnaires and focussed group discussions were used to collect data. Forty eight plant species distributed in 40 genera and 29 families were documented as being important for the management of pregnancy related complications, menstrual disorders, infertility, fibroids and as contraceptives. The species most frequently cited by the herbalists were fourteen. Fifty two percent of the plant species were probably being mentioned for the first time as being useful in reproductive health management. In conclusion, Tana River has a pool of TMPs with a wealth of indigenous knowledge that needs to be exploited. The plants used to treat dysmenorrhea for example may be important analgesic agents that need further investigation while those with anti-fertility properties may contain steroidal phyto chemical compounds. Such species therefore need further investigation to establish their efficacy and mechanism of action.
