This paper presents an Electrotactile Display System (ETCS). One of the most important human sensory systems for human computer interaction is the sense of touch, which can be displayed to human through tactile output devices. To realize the sense of touch, electrotactile display produces controlled, localized touch sensation on the skin by passing small electric current. In electrotactile stimulation, the mechanoreceptors in the skin may be stimulated individually in order to display the sense of vibration, touch, itch, tingle, pressure etc. on the finger, palm, arm or any suitable location of the body by using appropriate electrodes and waveforms. We developed an ETCS and investigated effectiveness of the proposed system in terms of the perception of roughness of a surface by stimulating the palmar side of hand with different waveforms and the perception of direction and location information through forearm. Positive and negative pulse trains were tested with different current intensities and electrode switching times on the forearm or finger of the user with an electrode-embedded armband in order to investigate how subjects recognize displayed patterns and directions of stimulation.
Recently, personal robots and home robots are developing by many companies and research groups. It is considered that a general effective interface for user of those robots is speech or voice. In this paper, Japanese speech based man-machine interface system is discussed for reflecting the fuzziness of natural language on robots, by using fuzzy reasoning. The present system consists of the derivation part of action command and the modification part of the derived command. In particular, a unique problem of Japanese is solved by applying the morphological analyzer ChaSen. The proposed system is applied for the motion control of a robot manipulator. It is proved from the experimental results that the proposed system can easily modify the same voice command to the actual different levels of the command, according to the current state of the robot.
The goal of this paper is to provide a Graphic man-machine interface that can be used to control multiple robots simultaneously. The proposed GUI scheme gave emphasis on making multiple robots Perform the cooperative works, maintaining a given formation. It controls multiple robots in two different modes. : a group mode and a individual mode. In the group mode, a common goal position and formation are delivered to individual robots at the same time, and in the individual mode one robot is selected. o increase the efficiency of the interface, a time scheduler is provided. The experimental results are included.

The DAta management and Communication NETworks (DACONET), Which it is designed as a subsystem for Man-Machine Interface System of Korea Advanced LIquid MEtal Reactor(KALIMER MMIS) and advanced design concept is approached, is described. The DACONET has its roles of providing the real-time data transmission and communication paths between MMIS systems, providing the quality data for protection, monitoring and control of KALIMER and logging the static and dynamic behavioral data during KALIMER operation. The DACONET is characterised as the distributed real-time system architecture with high performance, Future direction, in which advanced technology is being continually applied to Man-Machine interface System Development of Nuclear Power Plants, will be considered for designing data management and communication networks of KALIMER MMIS
The industrial processes have become complicated on a large scale bacause of improvement of productivity, research of efficiency, and shortage of locations to be suited for foundation of factories. Consequently, the instrumentation and control systems for operating these industrial processes have also been highly improved with the development of mass information means. In order to operate these large-sized and complicated industrial processes safely, the man-machine interface for correspondence between man and machines and the instrumentation system regarding process fault processing are playing an important role increasingly. This paper describes recent instrumentation system in the water purifying plant as an example of these industrial processes, and covers both man-machine interface and process fault processing. The annual water supply quantity and diffusion were 2, 000, 000, 000m$^{3}$ and 25.0% in 1950 inJapan, but they amounted to 12, 000, 000, 000m$^{3}$ and 86.7% in 1974, respectively. The demands of water will increase incessantly, while it becomes gradually difficult to secure water sources. Accordingly, local self-governing bodies such as municipal cooperation, towns, and villages often construct a large-scale water purifying plant at one place in common, as required, without constructing respective plants independently. It is an absolute requirement for the water purifying plant to avoid stopping water supply to fullfil its social responsibility from the viewpoints of its public utility enterprise, and also it has gradually become difficult to secure skilled operators enough to cover such water purifying plants that are additionally provided in various districts. Thus, the importance of the man-machine interface for assuring safety operation of the water purifying plant irrespective of unskillfulness of operators as well as the instrumentation system regarding process fault processing, or, safety instrumentation, is more and more increasing as the water purifying plants are on a large scale.
This paper deals with storage and retrieval policies for S/R machine with capacity constraints in Man-On-Board AS/RS. It is assumed that storage sequence is based on SFC(spacefilling curve) routine and that storage layout is dedicated by storage policies. We present several heuristic algorithms for storage and retrieval policies which minimize total distance travelled by the S/R machine. These algorithms are based on COI, group COI, frequency of order, similarity between items and capacity of S/R machine. Experimental results of 24 combinastorial policies are provided to illustrate the performance of the heuristics under various rack utilization ratios. In storage policies, the results show that algorithms considering both similarity and frequency are better than those with COI as rack utilization is increasing. And algorithm using group COI is superior to others. In retrieval policies, the method with revision expression is shown to be better than others.
The proper design of man-machine systems requires as much understanding of the human element as of the machine. Although the modern systems engineer can obtain a very high degree of repeatability and accuracy for the characteristics of a machine, these of the human elements are much less well known. Due to the complexity and importance of modern man-machine systems, this difficult problem has recently received increasing attention. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of the human operator have been newly determined by impulse estimation using Pseuo-random binnary signals as a test signal and the quasi-linear human operator models used as an element of a closed-loop control system adopted from McRuer & Krendel and Bekey. Also the techniques and instruments are presented for correlating the actual characteristics of the constructed system with anticipated theoretical values. Consequently, in spite of many problems remain yet, experimental results were very satisfactory.

The necessity of M2M(Machine to Machine) and Multimedia CSCW is described, and error control for multimedia CSCW(Computer Supported Cooperated Works) based on M2M is suggested. The relationship of information collection and utility is relationship of man to man, but is developed object to object by information communication and control system. This paper describes an error control and a white board in multimedia CSCW for M2M environment.
