The purpose of this study is to investigate the economic deprivation of male-headed or female-headed households. Household having children under the age of 18 are categorized into three types according to the gender of household head: male-headed household, female-headed household, and dual-parents household. The findings from data, for this study came from the Korean Labor Panel Study in 2003. The analysis shows that the household's age, education, residence types, etc are key explanatory variables in determining whether to be in poverty. While the public income transfer is most effective in reducing poverty in female-headed households, the private income source is relatively more useful among male-headed families. Since single-household families are particularly at risk, public policy makers should pay special attentions to developing and expanding welfare-to-work programs which provides work incentives to overcome relative poverty and community networks on child care.

This study was carried out to investigate the nutritional and physical status of children, aged 11 and 12 years, living in Haenam Koon (living at home) and in Mokpo City (living in an orphan asylum) located in Chonnam during the period of August 2 nd to 9 th in 1984. The mean values of height, chestgirth, arm circumference and head circumference between both groups of living in the rural area and in the city orphan asylum were not statistically different and similar to Korean Growth Standard. Exceptionally, the values of height and weight of male living at home in the rural area were lower than Korean Growth Standard (p<0.01). The weight of male living in the city orphan asylum was higher han that of male living at home in the rural area (p<0.01), and the skin fold thickness of female living at home was higher than that of male living at home (p <0.01). The physical indices of children living in the city orphan asylum were more or less higher than those of living at home in the rural area, but the relative weight of male was only significant (p<0.05). The animal protein intake was $8.4{\sim}8.6%$ of total food intake of living at home in the rural area and 6.2% in living in the city orphan asylum. The intake of legumes of children living in the city orphan asylum was more two times than that of living at home in the rural area, but overall fruit intake of living at home was more about two times than that of living in the city orphan asylum. The average intake of all nutrients except thiamine and niacin was lower than RDA. Especially the calcium intake of children in both groups was the lowest of all nutrients ($28.9{\sim}40.6%$ of RDA). Children living at home in the rural area had significantly higher intake of fat and ascorbic acid than children living in the city orphan asylum (p<0.01).
The purpose of this study examined the differences in work-family spillover process and domains in dual-earner couples with children, using a multidimensional measure of work-family spillover. The subjects of this study were 285 working couples with children. The research tool was questionnaires which consisted of general characteristics of the subjects and multidimensional measure of work-family spillover scale. For data analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach ${\alpha}$, t-test, and paired t-test were performed. Based on analysis of data using factor analysis, three-distinct work-family spillover process can be measured for both wife and husband, time interference, psychological distraction, and energy depletion and the multidimensional measure of work-family spillover is able to validly assess different domains of family life into which spillover occurs. The main results of this study were as following: First, there were significant differences in work-family spillover process according to sex. In work${\rightarrow}$family spillover, male more experienced negative time interference than female, on the other hand, in family${\rightarrow}$work spillover, female more experienced negative energy depletion than male. Second, there were significant differences in domains which work-family spillover occurs according to sex. Male more experienced negative work${\rightarrow}$family spillover than female in marital relations and parent-child relations domains while female more experienced negative family${\rightarrow}$work spillover than male in parent-child relations and home management domains. Third, there were significant differences between wife and husband in work-family spillover process. In work${\rightarrow}$family spillover, husband more experienced negative time interference than wife, on the other hand, in family${\rightarrow}$work spillover, wife more experienced negative energy depletion than husbands. Forth, there were significant differences between wife and husband in domains which work-family spillover occurs. Male more experienced negative work${\rightarrow}$family spillover than female in marital relations, parent-child relations, and leisure life domains. And while husband more experienced negative family${\rightarrow}$work spillover than wife in parent-child relations, wife more experienced negative family${\rightarrow}$work spillover than husband in home management domains.
958 healthy Korean children aged from 2 to 11 years old (male: 500 female:458) were studied on the root resorption of the mandibular first deciduous molar. The Results were as follows:
1. The resorption of mandibular first deciduous molar in female was earlier than male.
2. The patterns of the initial resorption of mandibular first deciduous molar were as follows
Distal root is resorbed by the Successor ; 55.92%
Both roots are resorbed by the Successor simultaneously ; 30.51%
Mesial root is resorbed by successor ; 6.33%
Mesial root is resorbed by the mandibular first bicuspid and canine ; 4.08%
Bifurcation area is resorbed by the successor; 3.16%
3. The Exfoliation period of mandibular first deciduous molar was 10 years 1month in female and 10 years 4 months in male.
The age of maximum growth increments-the adolescent spurt-is not only of developmental interest but is used as a marker for timing other growth events. And the mandibular growth rate follows the general growth curve, it is essential for an orthodontist to take the current and exact information about physical growth of patients. The author measured and studied the body height and weight of 11,694 children living in Seoul, and calculated out the mean, standard deviation, coefficient value, annual increments, percentage increments of each value, and made diagram to compare it with others. 1. The growth curve shows linear increment tendency until 17 years of age in male, 15 years in female. 2. The annual increment curves of body height and weight reveals the most peak value in 14-16 years in male and 11-14 years in female. 3. During 11-14 years of age, female growth exceed the male growth in the body height growth. And in weight growth, female growth exceed the male growth during 6-7 years and 11-12 years to show twice crossing. 4. It seemed that until 11-12 years in male and until 9-10 years in female the height growth show the priority to weight growth. And from 17 years in male and 15 years in female the body growth reveals the balanced growth pattern. 5. The time of changes of standard deviation curves of body height and weight coincided with that of annual increments. 6. The prominent high value of body height and weight in the comparison with other data may be due to the secioeconomical and nutritional, environmental influence. 7. The growth accerlation phenomena was detectable.
This study investigated dietary behavior and nutrient intake in children with developmental disorders as compared with non-disabled children and assessed the relationship between dietary behavior and nutrient intake. The survey was conducted on 118 students ($4^{th}$ and $5^{th}$ grade) of four special education schools and 244 students of an elementary school (control group). The survey was carried out using a questionnaire and an interview. Of the disabled children, children with a mental disorder comprised 72.9% and those with emotional disorders including autism comprised 26.3%. The average percentages of height and weight to standards for age were significantly lower in the disabled female children as compared with the non-disabled female children. Scores for table utensil handling skills, eating behavior, and an unbalanced diet were lower in the disabled children compared with those in the non-disabled children. Dietary behavior scores were not significantly different by either gender or age in the disabled children. Mean energy intake was less than the estimated energy requirement in both groups. Nutrients taken at less than the recommended intake level were calcium, iron, vitamin A, and folate in both groups. Food behavior score at mealtime, personal hygiene score at mealtime, and an unbalanced diet score were significantly correlated with iron and vitamin A intake in disabled male children. Personal hygiene score at mealtime was significantly correlated with calcium, iron, and vitamin A intake, and unbalanced diet score was significantly correlated with iron and vitamin A intake in disabled female children. Although the nutritional status of disabled children with developmental disorders was appropriate in general, improvement in their dietary behaviors through education and practice would allow them to eat balanced diets with essential nutrients.

The purpose of this study is to empirically analyse determinants of elders' life satisfaction by gender and discuss policy implications for the findings. Data was obtained from the Social Statistics Survey conducted by the Korea National Statistical Office in 2013. From this dataset, 9,456 elders aged 60 and above (4,113 male, 5,343 female) were selected for this study. Results of ordered logit analysis found differences for determinants of elders' life satisfaction by gender. Results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, age has a significant positive effect on only male elders' life satisfaction. Second, education level has a significant positive effect on both male and female elders' life satisfaction. Third, having a spouse has a significant positive effect on only male elders' life satisfaction. Fourth, household income has a significant positive effect on both male and female elders' life satisfaction. Fifth, consumption life satisfaction has a significant positive effect on both male and female elders' life satisfaction. Sixth, house ownership has a significant positive effect on both male and female elders' life satisfaction. Seventh, preparation for aging has a significant positive effect on both male and female elders' life satisfaction. Eighth, each of three types of social support has a significant positive effect on both male and female elders' life satisfaction. Ninth, cohabitation with children has a significant negative effect on both male and female elders' life satisfaction. Tenth, volunteerism has a significant positive effect on only male elders' life satisfaction. Eleventh, social group participation has a significant positive effect on both male and female elders' life satisfaction.
The purpose of the present research was to examine the relationship between the using goals of computer and self-regulated learning ability on the gender difference. To accomplish this goal, we have analyzed the data of Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey III which is nationally collected from primary school students, currently on the 6th grade in South Korea. 2,219 samples were used in the study excluding missing samples. The participants were 1167 males (49.5%) and 1052 females (50.5%). The mean age was 13.94 years (SD=.25). As results, female students spent more time on using computer than male students did: (1) the male students' time spent on Playing game was significantly larger than that of female students, but (2) on the rest seven using goals of computer including e-Learning/Information retrieval for learning, the female students spent significantly more time than the male students did. Also, in terms of the self-regulated learning ability, using computer for e-Learning/Information retrieval for learning itself gave significantly positive effects on both male and female students' self-regulated learning ability. On the other hand, Playing game gave significantly negative effects on both. Based on the results, some strategies were suggested on the proper use of computer for learning.
Purpose: To evaluate the usefulness of the Korean Developmental Screening Test (K-DST) for infants and children for developmental delay assessment. Methods: This study was based on retrospective studies of the results of the K-DST, Preschool Receptive-Expressive Language Scale (PRES), Sequenced Language Scale for Infants (SELSI), Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT), electroencephalography, magnetic resonance imaging, and extensive tests conducted in 209 of 1,403 patients, of whom 758 underwent the K-DST at the Korea University Guro Hospital between January 2015 and December 2016 and 645 were referred from local clinics between January 2015 and June 2016. Results: Based on the K-DST results, the male children significantly more frequently required further or follow-up examination than the female children in most test sections, except for gross motor. The male children had notably lower mean scores than the female children. The PRES/SELSI results showed that when more further or follow-up evaluations were required in the K-DST communication section, significantly more problems in language delay or disorder emerged. When further or follow-up evaluation was required in the cognitive section in the CARS/M-CHAT, the possibility of autism increased significantly. A child tended to score low in the CARS test and show autism when further or follow-up evaluation was recommended in the K-DST. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the usefulness of the K-DST as a screening test early in the development of infants and children in Korea. Data of normal control groups should be examined to determine the accuracy of this investigation.
