FEED AND FODDER AVAILABILITY IN THE PABNA MILK SHED AREA, BANGLADESH

  • The study was conducted at village level in Pabna milkshed areas of Bangladesh to asses the existing feed and fodder sources of cattle. The results showed that the overall number of cattle per farm family was 7.17 and chicken represents highest number (15.57) per farm family in this area. The results also indicated that during monsoon season the bathan is planted with Vigna mungo and Lathyrus sativus and average grazing hours per day varied from 1.1 in October to 5.6 in February. In Summer, they were offered naturally grown Cynodon dactylon with supplementary feeding of rice straw. The study further showed that the highest (65.7%) feed scarcity was found during mid April to mid May followed by mid June. The cultivation of Vigna mungo was highest (76.71%) compared to Lathyrus sativus by the farmers in the bathan areas. The major constraint to cattle production is the scarcity of quality feed during mid October to mid November.

Projecting suitable habitats considering locational characteristics of major wild vegetables and climate change impacts

  • In this study, we constructed a model of an area where the production and production amount of wild vegetables which are designated as short term income forest products for the whole country are self-sufficient for the representative Eastern Braken fern(Pteridium aquilinum)and Edible aster(Aster scaber). The difference between the existing cultivation site and the model result was examined, and the distribution of the cultivable area was simulated according to the near future climate change by the 2050s. The degree of agreement between the cultivated area and the actual native area was very low at 14.5% for Eastern Braken fern and 12.9% for Edible aster. Using the Maxent model, which has already been proven by many research examples, the cultivation maps through the model can guarantee statistical accuracy by considering many variables. To analyze future location changes, the RCP 4.5 scenario and the RCP 8.5 scenario were applie Edible aster d to predict potential future cultivable areas and compare them to the present. There was no decrease in the cultivable area due to climate change nationwide. However, in the RCP 8.5 scenario for Eastern Braken fern and the RCP 4.5 scenario for Edible aster, declining areas such as Gangwon-do, Jeollabuk-do and Gyeongsangbuk-do showed prominence according to the scenarios. The result of this study suggests that various models can be used for the production of short-term forest productivity maps and it will be used as a climate change impact assessment data for competitive forest products considering the influence of future climate change.

드론영상을 활용한 논 유기물 관리 인자 조사 및 메탄가스 배출량 산정 (Application of Drone Images to Investigate Biomass Management Practices and Estimation of CH4 Emissions from Paddy Fields)

  • Rice paddy cultivation is one of the major sources in methane (CH4) emission of which accurate assessment would be a prerequisite for agricultural greenhouse gas management. Biomass treatment in paddy fields is an important factor that affects CH4 emissions and thus needs to be taken into account. The objectives of this study were to apply drone images to investigate organic matter practices and to incorporate into the estimation of CH4 emissions from paddy fields. Three study areas were selected by one from each of the three different regions of Yeongnam, Honam and Jungbu, which are the most active region in paddy cultivation. The eBee drone was used to take images of the study sites twice a year; Jul mid-season for identifying rice cultivation area; Jan for investigating rice straw management and winter crop cultivation. Based on biomass management practices, different emissions factors were assigned on an individual paddy field and CH4 emmisions were estimated by multiplying respective areas. The ratios of rice straw application and winter crop cultivation were 1.4% and 37.2% in Hapcheon, 1.3% and 19.8% in Gimje, and 0.0% and 0.5% in Dangjin, respectively. The CH4 emissions estimates for respective sites were 0.40 ton CH4/year/ha, 0.34 ton CH4/year/ha, and 0.29 ton CH4/year/ha. On average, estimated CH4 emissions of this study were 28.5% less than the current Tier 2 CH4 emission estimation method.

지중가온이 백침계 오이의 측지 발생에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Soil Heating and Lateral Branching in White Spined Cucumbers)

  • 최근 수출을 위한 백침계오이의 재배 면적이 계속적인 증가 추세에 있어 2000년 현재 약 121ha에 달하고 있다. 백침계오이는 측지 착과형으로 흑침계오이와 달라 수량이 측지의 발생여부에 달려 있다. 그런데 백침오이의 주재배시기는 10월에서 2월까지의 겨울철로, 온도가 낮고, 투광량 부족하여 측지발생율이 저조하다. 따라서 본 시험은 백침계오이의 측지 발생율을 높이기 위한 지중가온의 효과를 구명하고자 실시하였다. 그 결과, 지중가온구는 주당 측지발생수가 13.7%개였고, 무가온구는 11.7개로 지중가온을 하면 측지발생수가 증가함을 알수 있었다. 또한 상품수확과수에 있어서도 지중가온구는 주당 45개인데 반해 지중무가온구는 38개였고, 전체적인 수량도 ha당 81톤으로, 무가온구의 68톤 보다 18%의 증수효과가 있어다. 즉, 수출오이재배시 지중가온을 하면, 측지발생수가 증가하고 특히 장측지가 다수 발생하여 측지 수확과수가 증가하며, 곡과의 발생이 감소하여 상품수량을 증가시킬 수 있다.

강원도 주요 농업지대별 중만생종 벼 품종의 쌀 수량 및 품질특성 비교 (Comparison of Yield and Quality Characteristics on Mid-Late Maturing Rice Cultivars in Major Cultivation Areas of Gangwon Province)

  • 강원지역 주요 농업지대별 알맞은 최고품질의 중만생종 벼 품종을 선발하고자, 농촌진흥청에서 최근 육성한 중만생종 8개 품종을 대상으로 2013년부터 2014까지 2년간 춘천, 강릉, 철원 등 3개 지역에서 수행한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 벼 생육기간 동안 평균기온은 2013년과 2014년 모두 춘천에서 평년대비 $0.6{\sim}1.1^{\circ}C$, 강릉 $1.0{\sim}1.3^{\circ}C$, 철원 $0.1{\sim}0.7^{\circ}C$ 높았다. 등숙기 강수량은 2013년에 춘천에서 평년대비 52.5 mm 많았고 2014년에는 176.4 mm 적었으며, 강릉은 2013년에 103.1 mm 적었고 2014년에는 42.9 mm 많았다. 반면 철원은 2013년과 2014년 모두 225.9~322.7 mm 가량 적었다. 2. 등숙기 일조시간은 2013년에 춘천, 강릉 및 철원에서 각각 평년대비 142, 108 및 94시간 많았고, 2014년에는 춘천, 강릉에서 20~21시간, 철원에서는 82시간 많았다. 3. 2년간 평균 10a당 백미수량은 춘천에서 삼광벼와 대보벼 594 kg, 진수미벼 578 kg을 보였고, 강릉에서는 대보벼 555 kg, 호품벼 554 kg, 칠보벼 546 kg, 그리고 철원에서는 대보벼 504 kg, 하이아미벼 489 kg로 다른 품종들에 비하여 다소 높은 수량을 보였으나 품종간 유의적인 차이는 없었다. 4. 완전미율은 춘천에서 하이아미벼 95.6%, 진수미벼 94.7%, 미품벼 94.2%로 다른 품종에 비하여 뚜렷하게 높았고, 싸라기율과 심복백미율도 다소 낮았다. 강릉에서는 호품벼, 하이아미벼, 삼광벼의 완전미율이 85.2~88.3%의 범위로 다른 품종에 비하여 다소 높았으나, 고품벼를 제외한 나머지 품종간에 유의적인 차이는 없었다. 싸라기율은 하이아미벼, 삼광벼, 미품벼에서 7.5~8.5%의 범위로 다소 낮았고 윤기치는 미품벼에서 78로 다른 품종에 비하여 유의적으로 높았다. 철원에서 완전미율은 대보벼가 89.2%로 고품벼와 하이아미벼에 비하여 유의적으로 높았으며, 싸라기율, 심복백미 및 식미치 등은 품종간 뚜렷한 차이가 없었다. 이상의 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 강원지역 주요 농업지대별 적응성이 우수한 최고품질의 중만생종 품종에 있어서 평야지 춘천은 삼광벼, 하이아미벼 및 진수미벼, 동해안지 강릉은 대보벼와 칠보벼, 그리고 중간지 철원에서는 대보벼가 재배안전성과 환경적응성이 가장 우수하였다.

잔디 토양전염성병원진균에 대한 길항미생물의 분리 및 길항효과 (Isolation of Antibiotic-producing Microorganisms Antagonistic to Soilborne Pathogenic Fungi of Bentgrass and Their Antifungal Activity)

  • Recently, the importance of management and cultivation of grasses has been increased in Korea. Among these cultural practices, the appropriate control of diseases is considered more important than other cultivation techniques such as fertilization and irrigation. The damages of brown patch and large patch caused by Rhizoctonia spp. and Pythium blight caused by Pythium spp. are serious in the major cultivation area of turfgrass in Korea. Since these diseases are difficult to control by agrochemicals, the damages are very serious if these are occured. The periodic spray of agrochemicals, to protect and control these diseases could make some problems of toxicity and environmental pollution as well as rising of non-target diseases. Therefore, the biological methods to control diseases have been required to decrease problems resulted from overuse of agrochemicals, to conserve natural ecosystem, and to control effectively diseases of grasses in the long period. The number of studies about biological control using antagonistic microorganisms have been increased for last half century. However, the application of biological control method has been very limited. In this study, thirteen isolates of R. cerealis, 8 isolates of R. solani and 3 isolates of Phthyn spp. have been isolated from diseased turfgrass in golf course and grass-culture area that have patch and wilting symptoms of zoysia grass and creeping bentgrass. Isolation frequency of R. cerealis and R. solani was high in especially zoysiagrass, while Pythym spp. was isolated from bent grass at low frequency but showed high pathogenicity. Totally, 205 isolates of soil microorganisms were isolated in this study as primary antagonistic microorganism by Herr's triple agar layer plate and dual culture method using rhizosphere of grasses, soil of crop field as the source of antagonistic microorganisms. Among the 205 isolates, 23 isolates were actinomycetes and 182 isolates were bacteria. All of the actinomycetes were isolated by Herr's method. Antagonistic effect of primary isolated microorganisms was tested for in vitro mycelial growth inhibition against pathogenic fungi isolated from grasses and for inhibition of disease occurrence in 24 well tissue culture plate and pot experiment. Then, four isolated of bacteria which are BG23, BG74, BG136 and BG171 were selected as antagonistic microorganisms against soil-born pathogenic fungi of bentgrass.

Development of sweet potato double cropping system in the southern island area of Korea

  • In Korea, the average air temperature has been elevated twice faster than the average global warming. And the climate warming is characterized by the smaller rise of air temperature in summer and the greater rise of air temperature in spring and winter. Therefore, the number of frost-free days to determine the cultivation ability of crops has increased by more than 15 days in 10 years according to climate warming. This climate warming trend has extended and is projected to extend not only the sweet potato growing season but also the sweet potato early cultivating area to higher altitude and latitude region. This study was carried out to evaluate the possibility of sweet potato double cropping in the southern island area of Korea by assessing the growth and yield performance of sweet potato cultivated at extremely-early and -late time. We had performed at Yokji Island Yokji Island($E128^{\circ}$ 18' $N34^{\circ}$ 36'), a representative specified complex area of sweet potato cultivation in southern Korea. As the test varieties, the major cultivars of the this region, Shinyulmi and early hypertrophic cultivars, Dahomi were used. The prior cropping were planted with PE film mulching on March 30 and April 10, and harvested after 110 days. So the succeeding cropping were planted without PE film mulching on July 25 and August 5 according to the harvesting time of the prior sweet potato and harvested after 120 days. As a control, it was harvested on September 15, 120 days after planted on May 15. Each experimental plot had an area of 12 square meters consisting of 4 beds, and was planted one at a time at intervals of 25cm. We had investigated growth characteristics - main vine length, node number, branch number, total vine yield, and tuberous root characteristics - tuberous root number, average weight, starch value, and etc. After harvesting, we analyzed the economic effects by examining the postharvest quantity, the input labor, the management cost, and the income. The total yield of marketable products in prior and succeeding cropping was 46~70% higher than that of control. The average unit price of sweet potato was 36% higher than the conventional culture, and the gross income increased by 98%, but the operating cost increased by 83%, and the farm income increased by 103%. There are considerations such as the difficulty of enlargement of cultivation area due to lack of labor in limited space and the need for watering measures due to spring drought. However, if the area of application for sweet potatoes double system is increased by 10%, it can be used as a new cropping system.

더위지기와 사철쑥의 정유성분 조성 비교 (Comparison of Essential Oil Composition of Artemisia iwayomogi and Artemisia capillaris)

  • 국내에서 자생하고 있는 더위지기와 사철쑥의 정유성분 조성의 차이점을 비교하기 위하여 각 시료로부터 수증기증류에 의해 정유를 분리한 다음 GC-MS 분석결과 및 문헌에 보고된 각 성분의 retention index 비교에 의해 성분을 동정하였다. 국내의 2개 지역에서 수집한 더위지기에서 분리한 정유에서 60종의 성분을 동정하였으며, 그중 한 시료에서는 iso-pinocamphone(31.64%), 1,8-cineole(21.55%), ${\beta}-pinene$(4.46%), pinocarvone(3.72%), myrtenal(3.42%) 및 trans-pinocarvel(3.14%)이 주요 구성성분이었으나 다른 시료에서는 camphor(26.99%), 1,8-cineole(11.02%), ${\alpha}-terpineol$(7.63%), borneol(4.10%), camphene(3.97%) 및 artemisia ketone(3.84%)이 주요 구성성분이었다. 또한 2개 지역에서 수집한 사철쑥에서는 80종의 성분을 동정하였으며, 두 시료간에 구성성분이나 성분별 조성비율은 유사한 편이었으나 그 중에서도 capillene$(26.01{\sim}30.31%)$, ${\beta}-pinene(8.55{\sim}18.38%)$, ${\beta}-caryophyllene(8.80{\sim}13.70%)$, $cis,trans- {\alpha}-farnesene(2.10{\sim}7.38%)$, ${\beta}-himachalene(1.57{\sim}5.57%)$ 및 germacrene D$(2.27{\sim}5.46%)$가 주요 구성성분이었다. 더위지기와 사철쑥의 정유 성분 조성상의 뚜렷한 차이점으로서 더위지기의 정유에서는 사철쑥에서 검출되지 않은 iso-pinocamphone 또는 camphor, 1,8-cineole과 같은 monoterpenoid 화합물의 함유비율이 높은 반면 사철쑥에서는 더위지기에서 검출되지 않은 acetylene화합물인 capillene 이외에도 sesquiterpenoid 화합물의 함유비율이 높은 것이 특징이었다.

캄보디아 옥수수 생산 및 유통현황 연구 (The Status of Maize Production and Distribution in Cambodia)

  • 세계적으로 축산물 수요가 증가하고, 특히 아시아 및 라틴 아메리카 지역의 수요가 증가하면서 사료용 옥수수 소비량이 매년 크게 증가하고 있다. 우리나라도 거의 전량을 수입할 정도로 축산업뿐만 아니라 식용 부분에서도 수요가 계속 증가하고 있다. 따라서 해외식량기지로서의 가능성을 타진하고 우리 농산업체에 정보를 제공 할 목적으로 캄보디아의 옥수수 생산 및 유통현황에 대한 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다 1. 캄보디아의 주요 곡물 생산량 중 옥수수의 총생산량은 급격하게 증가하여 1995년과 2000년도 사이에는 평균 32%가 증가하는 등 사료용 및 식용의 옥수수 생산이 계속 증가하는 것으로 조사되었다. 2. 1992년까지는 생산된 옥수수 전량이 캄보디아 국내로만 수급되었지만 1993년부터 40% 이상을 수출하기 시작하여 현재는 평균 50% 이상을 수출하고 있으며, 도매가격은 주변의 태국이나 라오스보다도 높은 톤당 약 230달러에 거래되고 있으며 2008년 이후 곡물파동과 더불어 꾸준히 상승하는 것으로 조사되었다. 3. 캄보디아 옥수수 생산 및 유통에 있어서 가장 큰 문제점은 수확후 관리로서 건조 가공 시설이 대부분 갖추어져 있지 않아 우기에는 자연 건조가 쉽지 않고 아플라톡신(aflatoxin)이 생기기 쉬워 제 값을 받지 못하는 것으로 조사되었다. 4. 따라서 한국의 농산업체가 진출할 경우 생산면에서는 1년에 2기작을 할 수 있는 재배지역의 수리시설 등 인프라 구축이 필요하고, 건조가공시설을 통해 종실의 품질을 향상 시키는 것이 옥수수 재배의 기본요건으로 조사되었다.
