In the molecular dynamics study of polymeric membranes, it is very important to select the proper length of the polymer main chain because it requires a large number of constituent atoms and a long time to simulate the permeation behavior. In this study, we tried to investigate how the correlation between polymer main chain length and permeation behavior appears in actual molecular dynamics simulation results. Molecular dynamics were performed using the widely known commercial polymer Kapton(R) polyimide structure and the gas permeation behavior was simulated. The movement of the polymer main chain was not related to its length and the short main chain length did not act more actively. In addition, unlike the prediction that the end group of the polymer main chain is relatively easy to move, there are many cases where the atoms located at the middle of the polymer main chains have a higher movement than the atoms located at the end groups. Finally, permeabilities of the gas molecules was not affected by the length of the main chain and the end groups of the polymer, which indicates that the end effect should be carefully mentioned and followed by the verification process.

In this study, a fiber chain was developed to replace a steel chain using high-modulus polyethylene DM20. The pick count, wrapping count, and inner length were selected as the main design variables of the fiber chain and were analyzed to increase the breaking strength. Orthogonal array experiments were conducted, and the results were analyzed with respect to the breaking strength. The analysis revealed that the pick count and wrapping count had meaningful effects at significance levels within 5%. The main effect analysis revealed that a smaller pick count, larger wrapping count, and longer inner length caused the breaking strength to increase. With the wrapping count fixed at 1, a pick count less than -0.65, and an inner length greater than 0.38, the breaking strength was calculated to be greater than 300 kN. These results are expected be important factors in the derivation of an optimal combination of design variables to attain a fiber chain with a targeted strength.
To determine the effect of numbers of nitrogen atom bonded at ethyl group included in main chain of linear amine curing agents of epoxy-cure systems on the thermal and mechanical properties, standard epoxy resin DGEBF was cured with DETA, TETA and TEPA in a stoichiometrically equivalent ratio. From this work, the effect of curing agents of the DGEBF/amine systems oil the thermal and mechanical properties was significantly influenced by numbers of nitrogen atom of curing agents. The results showed that heat of reaction increased, and maximum exothermic temperature decreased with the decrease of numbers of nitrogen atom. In case of cured systems, density and maximum conversion(%) had no relation to numbers of nitrogen atom, but flexural modulus and tensile modulus increased with the decrease of numbers of nitrogen atom in main chain. Thermal stability, shrinkage(%), Tg, tensile and flexural strength showed irregular tendency having nothing to do with numbers of nitrogem atom at a sight. This findings imply that the differences in the maximum conversion(%) about the chain length of curing agents affect the thermal and mechanical properties.
The purpose of this study was to compare the water channel morphology and the proton conductivity by changing the number of repeating units of the polymer backbone of PEMs, and to present a criterion for selecting an appropriate polymer model for MD simulation. In the model with the shortest polymer main chain, the movement of the main chain and the sulfonic acid group was observed to be large, but no change in the water channel morphology was found. In addition, due to the nature of the proton transport ability that is most affected by the water channel morphology, the proton conductivity did not show a significant correlation with the length of the polymer backbone. These results provide important information, particularly for the preparation of ionomers for binders. In general, a low molecular weight polymer electrolyte material is used for a binder ionomer. Since the movement of the main chain/sulfonic acid group is improved, it can play a role of enclosing the catalyst layer well. However, there is no change in its proton conducting performance. In conclusion, the preparation of ionomers for binders will require molecular weight and structure design with a focus on physical properties rather than proton transfer performance.
To determine the effect of chain length and chemical structure of linear amine curing agents on thermal and mechanical properties, a standard bifunctional linear DGEBF epoxy resin was cured with EDA and HMDA having amine group at the both ends of main chain in a stoichiometrically equivalent ratio in condition of preliminary and post cure. From this work, the effect of linear amine curing agents on the thermal and mechanical properties is significantly influenced by numbers of carbon atoms of main chain. In contrast, the results show that the DCEBF/EDA system having two carbons had higher values in the thermal stability, density, shrinkage (%), grass transition temperature, tensile modulus and strength, flexural modulus and strength than the DGEBF/HMDA system having six carbons, whereas the DGEBF/EDA cure system had relatively low values in maximum ekothermic temperature, maximum conversion of epoxide, thermal expansion coefficient than the DGEBF/HDMA cure system. These findings indicate that the packing capability (rigid property) in the EDA structure affects the thermal and mechanical properties predominantly. It shows that flexural fracture properties have a close relation to flexural modulus and strength.
This study, targeting Korean tertiary hospitals and general hospitals, aims to analyze how value chain model in health and medical institution suggested by Duncan and else influences on hospital management. A survey was conducted to verify the actual proof analysis of this study model. 880 questionnaires were distributed to entire 88 hospitals and 739 copies were returned from 76 hospitals. This study mainly consists of three steps to analyze the effect value chain activity has on management performance of general hospitals. For the first step, we analyzed the effects service delivery activity has on management performance. For the second step, we analyzed the effects service support activity has on management performance and for the third, we analyzed the effects interaction between service delivery activity and service support activity has on management performance. The main results of this study are as follows. First, in terms of the management performance of scale, the factors which influenced on daily charge of outpatient were service activity before treatment, at the moment of treatment and value chain activity, while more important factors in daily charge of inpatient were organizational culture, organizational structure and value chain activity. In terms of management performance of quality, the factors which influenced on the first medical examination rate of outpatient were service activity before, at the moment of and after treatment, while activity at the moment of treatment, organizational structure, and value chain activity which is interaction were more important factors in average length of stay. In terms of non-financial performance, the management performance factors which influenced on job satisfaction were service activity at the moment of, after the treatment and value chain activity, while organizational culture, strategy resources and value chain activity which is interaction were more important factors in job commitment. Secondly, all the service support activity, service delivery activity and value chain activity had statistically significant effect on management performance. Among the three factors, service support activity had relatively high effect than others.

In order to design the high strength corrugated fiberboard containers for agricultural products that can be used for the cold chain system, a large number of individual boxes were placed in various humidity environments at two different temperature of 5 and $20^{\circ}C$. The results indicated that temperature changes do not effect on physical strength of corrugated fiberboard containers as much as humidity changes did. The main conclusion from this study was that compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers dropped significantly at high humidity condition, but the rates varied depending on the number of walls, temperature, and perimeter of containers. The packaging designer must consider the corrugated fiberboard boxes are also greatly affected by dimensional variations such as the length versus width ratio. Based on this study, water-resistant board would not be necessary if the ambient relative humidity does not reach to a critical point, 85 percent in the cold chain system. However, the designer must count for the unexpected fluctuation of rotative humidity resulting in severe loss of the compression strength of corrugated fiberboard container.
Three types of bis[3-(dialkyloxylphosphorothionyl) thio-2-methylpropanyloxy]alkane (BAPA) drived from alkane diol were synthesized. The principal chain of each BAPA had a different carbon number, i.e., 6, 9, and 11. The three types of synthesized BAPA were compared to zinc dialkyl dithiophosphates (ZDDPs) in terms of abrasion resistance. A four-ball test was conducted to evaluate the anti-abrasion performance of the synthesized BAPA according to the length of the principal carbon chain. Each product was added to an additive at a concentration of 1% of the base oil weight, and the wear scar diameter (WSD) was measured as 0.472, 0.459, and 0.480 mm, respectively. Among the BAPA compounds, dialkyl dithiophosphoric acid (DDP), which is the side chain of bis[methacryloyloxy] nonane (BMOO9), was synthesized by varying the carbon number, i.e., 4, 8, and 12, and subsequently the 4-ball test was carried out. The WSD was determined as 0.537, 0.459, and 0.531 mm, respectively. As a result, it was found that when a side chain is short, a thin film is formed. In contrast, a long side chain hindered the formation of a film, and hence the best result was achieved when the carbon number was 8. As for the ZDDPs, the WSD was determined to be 0.563 mm, when measured under the same conditions. The measurements confirm that the synthesized BAPA compounds are superior to the ZDDPs as abrasion resistance additives.
The thermal and optical properties of poly {1-(cholesteryloxycarbonylalkanoyloxy) ethylene}s (PCALEn, n=2$\sim$8,10, the number of methylene units in the spacer) were investigated. All of the homologues formed monotropic cholesteric phases with left-handed helical structures. PCALEn with n=2 or 10, in constrast with PCALEn with $3{\leq}n{\leq}8$, did not display reflection colors over the full cholesteric range, suggesting that the helical twisting power of the cholesteryl group highly depends on the length of the spacer connecting the cholesteryl group to the polyethylene chain. The glass transition temperatures decreased with increasing n. The isotropic-cholesteric phase transition temperatures decreased with increasing n up to 7 and showed an odd-even effect. However it became almost constant when n is more than 7. This behavior is rationalized in terms of the change in the average shape of the side chain on varing the parity of the spacer. This rationalization also accounts for the observed variation of the entropy gain for the clearing transition. The thermal stability and degree of order in the mesophase and the temperature dependence of the optical pitch observed for PCALEn were significantly different from those reported for cellulose tri(cholesteryloxycarbonyl)alkanoates. The results were discussed in terms of the differences in the chemical structure and flexibility of main chain and the number of the mesogenic units per repeating unit.

Aggregation of hydrophobically end-capped poly(ethylene oxide)s: HEURs, denoted as $C_8$$EO_{380}$$C_8$, $C_12$$CO_{600}$$C_{12}$, and $C_{18}$$EO_{860}$$C_{18}$,are described using static fluorescence, dynamic light scattering, and atomic force microscope (AFM) techniques. The CAC (critical aggregation concentration) was determined by com-paring two fluorescent peaks which were influenced by the polarity of the probe dye molecules, pyrene. The aggregation occurs in concentrations higher than 10 g/L of $C_8$$EO_{380}$$C_8$ and the CAC decreases by increasing the side chain length. The dynamic light scattering experiment shows fast mode and slow mode decays, and both are diffusive. The fast mode does not depend on the concentration, but the slow mode shows concentration dependence influenced by the formation of an aggregated structure. The hydrophobic end groups effect more dominantly than the main chains for the formation of HEUR micelles. By increasing the concentration, the HEUR micelles change their structure from spheres to rodlike micelles, and finally make fused structures, which were visualized with atomic force microscopy.
