  • We have constructed a rotational loss measuring system which consists of two yoke system for rotational magnetization and 4-channel transient recording system for Hx, Hy, Bx and By measurements. Using the constructed measuring system, we have mesaured rotational energy loss for non-oriented electrical steel sheets. Rotational energy loss was depending on the angle between B-search coil and H-search coil, and the direction of rotation (clockwise and counter clockwise). The average of the rotational energy losses under clockwise and counter clockwise was independent of the angle between B-search coil and H-search coil, and we could improve measuring uncertainty using the averaged rotational energy losses.

  • Microstructures and mechanical properties of variously heat treated 0.85% carbon steel(eutectoid steel) were evaluated by magnetic property measurements. Microstructural analysis (pearlite interstellar spacing), measurement of mechanical properties(Rockwell hardness, yield stress, fracture stress) and magnetic properties(coercivity, remanence, hysteresis loss, saturation magnetization) were performed to clarify mutual relationships among these parameters. Water quenched specimens with martensite structure showed much higher coercivity and remanence than air cooled or furnace cooled specimens with pearlite structure. The linear dependence of coercivity and remanence on pearlite interlamellar spacing as well as on Rockwell hardness, yield stress and fracture stress was observed in the pearlitic steel. Hysteresis loss and saturation magnetization showed no distinct trend with pearlite interlamellar spacing.

  • The AC losses of BSCCO-2223 multifilamentary superconducting tapes were measured using magnetization method and compared with the results of theoretically calculated values. In general, AC losses in multifilamentary superconducting tapes could be quantitatively explained by the simple sum of the Hysteresis and Coupling Loss. As a result of experiment, We found that AC losses of multifilamentary superconducting tape increase rapidly in large magnetic field region.

  • The substituted lithium ferrites combine useful ferromagnetic properties with high Curie temperature ranging from 55$0^{\circ}C$ to 85$0^{\circ}C$, [1] high saturation magnetization, [2] and low microwave dielectric loss.[3] Saturation magnetization of (Z $n_{1-x}$ F $e_{x}$)A[L $i_{0.5x}$F $e_{ 2-0.5x}$]$_{B}$ $O_4$ increased with zinc concentration, followed by a decrease at x = 0.7.[4] This is attributed to a dilution of the A-site with zinc which initially causes an increase in saturation magnetization due to the dominance of the B-site. • This paper proposes a modified current differential relay for transformer protection unaffected by the remanent flux. The relay uses the same restraining current as a conventional relay, but the differential current is modified to compensate for the effects of the exciting current. To cope with the remanent flux, before saturation, the relay calculates the core-loss current and uses it to modify the measured differential current. When the core then enters saturation, the initial value of the flux is obtained by inserting the modified differential current at the start of saturation into the magnetization cure. Thereafter, the actual core flux is then derived and used in conjunction with the magnetization curve to calculate the magnetizing current. A modified differential current is then derived that compensates for the core-loss and magnetizing currents. The performance of the proposed differential relay was compared against a conventional differential relay. Results indicate that the modified relay remained stable during severe magnetic inrush and over-excitation because the exciting current was successfully compensated. This paper concludes by implementing the relay on a hardware platform based on a digital signal processor. The relay discriminates magnetic inrush and over-excitation from an internal fault and is not affected by the level of remanent flux.

  • AC loss is one of the important parameters in (High Temperature Superconducting)HTS AC devices. Among the HTS AC power devices, the transformer is the essential part in the electrical power system. But unfortunately, the transformer is the worst HTS device concerning AC loss because of very large magnetization loss due to high magnetic field applied to the HTS wire. We calculated the magnetization losses in HTS pancake windings for transformer according to the operating temperature. Two kinds of arrangement of HTS pancake windings were adopted for calculation of AC losses of a shell type transformer, and the analysis results were presented and discussed.

  • During magnetic inrush or over-excitation saturation of the core in a transformer draws a large exciting current. This can cause mal-operation of a differential relay. This paper proposes a modified current differential relay for transformer protection. In order to cope with the remanent flux at the beginning. the start of saturation of the core is detected and the core flux at the instant is estimated by inserting the differential current into a magnetization curve. Then, this core flux value can be used to calculate the core flux. The proposed relay calculates the core-loss current from the induced voltage and the core-loss resistance; the relay calculates the magnetizing current from the core flux and the magnetization curve. Finally, the relay obtains the modified differential current by subtracting the core-loss current and the magnetizing current from the conventional differential current. The proposed technique not only discriminates magnetic inrush and over-excitation from an internal fault, but also improves the speed of the conventional relay.

  • This study proposes an optimal design process for a high-frequency transformer that has a large leakage inductance for dual-active-bridge converters. Notably, conventional design processes have large errors in designing leakage transformers because mathematically modeling the leakage inductance of such transformers is difficult. In this work, the geometric parameters of a shell-type transformer are identified, and finite element analysis(FEA) simulation is performed to determine the magnetization inductance, leakage inductance, and copper loss of various shapes of shell-type transformers. Regression models for magnetization and leakage inductances and copper loss are established using the simulation results and the machine learning technique. In addition, to improve the regression models' performance, the regression models are tuned by adding featured parameters that consider the physical characteristics of the transformer. With the regression models, optimal high-frequency transformer designs and the Pareto front (in terms of volume and loss) are determined using NSGA-II. In the Pareto front, a desirable optimal design is selected and verified by FEA simulation and experimentation. The simulated and measured leakage inductances of the selected design match well, and this result shows the validity of the proposed design process.
