  • Recently, various networks have been introduced in the car of the internal and external sides. These have been integrated by one HMI(Human Machine Interface) to control devices of each network and provide information service. The existing vehicle navigation system, providing GPS based vehicle positioning service, has been included to these integrated networks as a default option. The GPS has been used to the most universal device to provide position information by using satellites' signal. But It is impossible to provide the position information when the GPS can't receive the satellites' signal in the area of tunnel, urban canyon, or forest canopy. Thus, this paper propose and implement the method of measuring vehicle position by using the sensing data of internal CAN network and external Wi-Fi network of the integrated car navigation circumstances when the GPS doesn't work normally. The results obtained by implementation shows the proposed method works well by map matching.

  • In centralized control system, complicated control systems including sensors, power supply and dampers should be required to satisfy the target response of large-scale structures. The practical applications of the centralized control system, however, is very difficult due to high order finite element model of structures, uncertainty of models, and limitations of the excitation system. In this study, the decentralized response-dependent MR damper of which magnetic field is automatically modulated according to the displacement or velocity transferred to the damper without any sensing and computing systems. this decentralized response-dependent MR damper are investigated according to the ranges of relative magnitude between the control force of MR damper and the story shear force of structures by nonlinear time history analysis. Finally, its performance is compared with centralized LQR algorithm which is used in general centralized control theory for a three story building structure.

  • In underwater communications, there are many challenges due to energy limitations, long propagation delay, low data rate, and high power loss, unlike terrestrial RF communications. Especially, the propagation delay of underwater acoustic channel is five orders of magnitude higher than in electro-magnetic terrestrial channels due to the low speed of sound(1,500m/s). Thus, the MAC protocols for terrestrial communications are not suitable for underwater network. In this paper, we studied the considerations for MAC protocol in underwater acoustic channel. Here, we concentrated on CSMA based MAC protocols. From the results, we confirmed that the number of control packets has an important effect on the performance in underwater environment. These results would be useful in designing MAC protocols for underwater acoustic communications.

  • Liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) fibers have been widely applied in various fields, such as soft robots and biomimetic actuators, in a one-dimensional form. LCEs possess the characteristics of both fluidity and solid order, as well as the elasticity of rubber, and exhibit stimulus-response based on these properties. In particular, by programming the responsiveness to various stimuli such as heat, light, electric fields, and magnetic fields in terms of shape-changing, various movements such as lifting, twisting, and rotating can be realized with high degrees of freedom. Therefore, LCE fibers have the potential for application in various fields such as artificial muscles, soft robots, wearable technologies, and sensing technologies. The research on liquid crystal elastomer fibers is evaluated to have high applicability in various fields in the Fourth Industrial Revolution as a smart material that can include various functionalities beyond simple fibers. In this review, we introduce the structure and basic characteristics of liquid crystal elastomer fibers, the latest research trends on orientation-based fabrication methods, and various applications such as artificial muscles, smart fabrics, and soft robots.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the handy non-contact measurement device of the surface roughness by using the optical fiber sensor. The advantages of fiber optic sensors are high-speed responsibility, non-effect of the magnetic, convenience of the product and high precision. The measurement theory for surface roughness of optical fiber sensor is one to one correspondence between the reflected light intensity based on the surface roughness of the object and the measurement value of previously known for surface roughness. The reflected light intensity was determined using the distance to the surface from the sensor probe and the limit reflection angle based on the surface roughness. Therefore, in this study, the sensor probe was produced for determining the value of surface roughness only using the limit reflection angle based on the surface roughness with the fixed distance from the surface. A prototype measurement system was composed of a transmitting part, a receiving part and a signal processing circuit. The materials of standard measurement which was used in this experiment were SM45C, STS303 and Al60. According to the results of this study, approximation surface roughness formulas which was deduced from the correlation of between the standard surface roughness and the sensing output were verified that they were effect against the surface roughness measurement value of the option sample. And handy optical fiber surface roughness measurement device which was produced by an order was verified that it was effect for measuring of the precision surface roughness.

  • In this study, we developed an optical-fiber sensor using cobalt chloride solution to monitor temperature in real-time between long distance points unaffected by the electro-magnetic wave and the vibration. Cobalt chloride solutions were made using 10% water and 90% ethanol (v/v) solution. The transmittance of these solutions was analyzed on 655 nm using UV-Visible spectrometer regarding temperature change. Also 30.8 mM cobalt chloride solution was gelled by dissolving polyvinyl butyral and the transmittance of this was analyzed on 655 nm regarding temperature change. The results of transmittance and optical power measurement showed decrease of both transmittance and optical power with increase of temperature from 66.8% and 149.5 nW at $25^{\circ}C$ to 7.1% and 48 nW at $70^{\circ}C$, respectively. These results support the possibility of gelled cobalt chloride/polyvinyl butyral as an optical-fiber sensor to monitor temperature change.

  • Generally, for conventional 3-D Hall sensor it is general that the sensitivity for $B_z$ is about 1/10 compared with those for $B_x$ or $B_y$. Therefore, in this work, we proposed 3-D Hall sensor with new structures. We have increased the sensitivity about 6 times to form the trench using anisotropic etching. And we have increased the sensitivity for the $B_z$ by 80 % compared with those of $B_x$ and $B_y$ using deposition of the ferromagnetic thin films on the bottom surface of the wafer to concentrate the magnetic fluxes. Sensitivities of the fabricated sensor with Ni/Fe film for $B_x,\;B_y$, and $B_z$ were measured as 361mV/T, 335mV/T, and 286mV/T, respectively. It has also showed sine wave of Hall voltages over a $360^{\circ}$ rotation. A packaged sensing part was $1.2{\times}1.2mm^2$. The measured linearity of the sensor was within ${\pm}3%$ of error. Resolution of the fabricated sensor was measured by $1{\times}10^{-5}T$.

  • A geophysical mapping was performed for Hwasan caldera which is located in Euisung Sub-basin of the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula. In order to overcome the limitation of the previous studies, remote sensing technic was used and dense potential data were obtained and analyzed. First, we analyzed geological lineament for target area using geological map, digital elevation model (DEM) data and satellite imagery. The results were greatly consistent with the previous studies, and showed that N-S and NW-SE direction are the most dominant one in target area. Second, based on the lineament analysis, highly dense gravity data were acquired in Euisung Sub-basin and an integrated interpretation considering air-born magnetic data was made to investigate the regional structure of the target area. The results of power spectrum analysis for the acquired potential data revealed that the subsurface of Euisung Sub-basin have two density discontinuities at about 1 km and 3-5 km depth. A 1 km depth discontinuity is thought as the depth of pyroclastic sedimentary rocks or igneous rocks which were intruded at the ring vent of Hwasan caldera, while a 3-5 km depth discontinuity seems to be associated with the depth of the basin basement. In addition, three-dimensional gravity inversion for the total area of Euisung Sub-basin was carried out, and the inversion results indicated two followings; 1) Cretaceous Palgongsan granite and Bulguksa intrusion rocks, which are located in southeastern part and northeastern part of Euisung Sub-basin, show two major low density anomalies, 2) pyroclastic rocks around Hwasan caldera also have lower density when compared with those of neighborhood regions and are extended to 1.5 km depth. However, a poor vertical resolution of potential survey makes it difficult to accurately delineate the detailed structure caldera which has a vertically developed characteristic in general. To overcome this limitation, integrated analysis was carried out using the magnetotelluric data on the corresponding area with potential data and we could obtain more reasonable geologic structure.

  • Marine organism-derived toxins have negative effects not only on human health but also in aquaculture, fisheries, and marine ecosystems. However, traditional analytical methods are insufficient in preventing this threat. In this paper, we reviewed new rapid methods of toxin detection, which have been improved by adopting diverse types of nanomaterials and technologies. Moreover, we herein describe the main strategies for toxin detection and their related sensing performance. Notably, to popularize and commercialize these newly developed technologies, simplifying the process of pre-treating real samples real samples is very important. As part of these efforts, numerous studies have reported pretreatment methods based on the antibody-immobilized magnetic nanoparticles, and some cases have applied nanoparticles to enhance the sensing performance by utilizing the intrinsic catalytic activity. Furthermore, some reports have introduced fluorescent nanoparticles, such as quantum dots, to represent the lower detection limits of conventional enzyme-based colorimetric methods and lateral flow assays. Some studies using electrochemical measurements based on aptamer-nanoparticle complexes have also been announced. In addition, as the response to new toxins generated by changes in the marine environment is still lacking, further research on diagnostic and detection is also greatly needed for these kinds of marine toxins and their derivatives.
