Application of magnetic fields is important to characterize the carrier dynamics in semiconductor quantum structures. We performed photoluminescence (PL) measurements from an InGaP-AlInGaP single quantum well under pulsed magnetic fields to 50 T. The zero field interband PL transition energy matches well with the self-consistent Poisson-Schr?dinger equation. We attempted to analyze the dimensionality of the quantum well by using the diamagnetic shift of the magnetoexciton. The real quantum well has finite thickness that causes the quasi-two-dimensional behavior of the exciton diamagnetic shift. The PL intensity diminishes with increasing magnetic field because of the exciton motion in the presence of magnetic field.
A very simple a.c. magnetic susceptometer for use in a helium closed cycle cryostat is reported in this paper. This simple setup has only a single bobbin-less copper coil, instead of the primary coil and two secondary coils typically used in mutual-inductance types. The single bobbin-less copper coil is directly mounted on the cryostat cold head. A sample is attached on the inside wall of the copper coil using a thermal contact material and its a.c. magnetic susceptibility is obtained from the measurement of the self-inductance of the sample coil using an LCR meter or an impedance analyzer. Experimental details are described and illustrative measurements on magnetic and superconducting materials as a function of temperature are included. The performances and limitations of this simple a.c. magnetic suceptometer are also discussed.

In recent years, the electromagnetic environments are varied with the increase of power consumption and the spread of household electric appliances. Most of the interests to date have concentrated in the area of human health effects associated with exposure to power frequency electric and magnetic fields, and thus the precise measurement and analysis are required. In this paper, the measurements and analysis of the extremely low frequency(ELF) electric and magnetic fields produced by actual 22.9[kV] distribution lines were performed. The experiments have been carried out by lateral profile, and the theoretical analyses were made by use of FIELDS program for the sate of comparison with the experimental data. Electric and magnetic field intensity were strong under power distribution lines, and were inversely proportional to lateral distance. The profiles of electric and magnetic fields were M and ∩ shapes, respectively, and the measured data were good in agreement with the theoretical results. Both the electric and magnetic field intensity were increased with increasing the measurement height.

Magnetization loss of high temperature superconductoring BSCCO tape and YBCO coated conductor(YBCO CC) is most important issue in the development of superconducting power devices. In this paper, the measured results of magnetization losses in BSCCO tape and YBCO CC are presented and compared with each other. Measurements of magnetization losses are performed under various angles of external magnetic field to consider the anisotropic characteristics of YBCO CC. Also, we present the compared results of magnetization losses measured at arbitrary directional magnetic fields and analyzed with perpendicular magnetic field components of those. The results show that magnetization loss of YBCO CC agree well with the analyzed value by it's perpendicular magnetic field component, but BSCCO tape is not.

In this study, we investigated the applicable plan of GIS on the environmental impact assessment of 60 Hz Powerline. So we assessed distance data based on calculations by use of 2D and 3D Geographical information systems(GIS) and distance data based on measurements on 1: 5000 maps accord with on site distance measurements to use input data for calculating magnetic field. One hundred eight of the on site measured addresses were selected from residences. The data were achieved by measuring the distance between residence and power line on maps with scales of 1: 5000. The digital map was obtained from National Geographic Information Institute with scales of 1: 5000, and we made 2D and 3D map. Correlation analyses were performed for statistical analyses. For the 3D GIS versus on site comparison of different exposure categories, 70 of 108 measurements were assigned to the correct category. Similarly for 2D GIS versus on site comparison, 71 of 108 were correctly categorized. When comparing map measurement with on site measurement, 62 of 108 were correctly categorized. When the correlation analysis was performed, best correlation was found between 3D GIS and on site measurements with r = 0.84947 (p<0.0001). The correlation between map and on site measurement yielded an r of 0.76517 (p<0.0001). Since the GIS measurements and map measurement were made from the center point in the building and the on site measurements had to be made from the closest wall on the building, this might introduce and additional error in urban areas. The difference between 2D and 3D calculations were resulted from the height of buildings.

In the mountain streams in Jeju Island, strong turbulence and roughness usually made it nearly impossible to utilize most of intrusive instrumentation for streamflow discharge measurements. Instead, a non-intrusive fixed electro-magnetic wave surface velocimetry (fixed EWSV: Kalesto) became alternatively popular in many representative streams to measure stream discharge seamlessly. Currently, Kalesto has shown noteworthy performance with little loss in flood discharge measurements and also has successfully provided discharge for every minute. However, Kalesto has been operated to regard its measured one-point velocity as the representative mean velocity for the given cross-section. Therefore, it could be highly possible to potentially encompass discharge measurements errors. In this study, we analyzed the difference between such Kalesto discharge measurements and other alternative concurrent discharge measurements such as Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) and mobile EWSV which were able to measure velocity in multi-points in the cross-section. Consequently, Kalesto discharge deviated from ADCP discharge in amount of 48% for relatively low flow, and more than 20% difference for high flow compared with mobile EWSV discharge measurements. These results indicated that the one-point velocity measured by Kalesto should be used as a cross-sectional mean velocity, rather it should be accounted for as an index-velocity in conjunction with directly measured cross-sectional mean velocity by using more reliable instrumentations. After inducing Kalesto Discharge Correction Coefficient (KDCC) that actually means relationship between index velocity and cross-sectional mean velocity, the corrected discharge from Kalesto was significantly improved. Therefore, we found that index velocity method should be applied to obtain better accuracy of discharge measurement in case of Kalesto operation.
Two novel copper(II) bromide complexes with pyridine containing Schiff base ligands, $Cu(pmed)Br_2$ and $Cu(pmed)Br_2$ where pmed = N'-((pyridin-2-yl)methylene)ethane-1,2-diamine (pmed) and dpmed = N,N-diethyl-N'-((pyridin-2-yl)methylene)ethane-1,2-diamine (dpmed) were synthesized and characterized using X-ray single crystal structure analysis, optical and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Crystal structural analysis of $Cu(pmed)Br_2$ showed that the copper(II) ion has a distorted square-pyramidal geometry with the trigonality index of ${\tau}=0.35$ and two intermolecular hydrogen bonds, which result in the formation of two dimensional networks in the ab plane. On the other hand, $Cu(pmed)Br_2$ displayed a near square-pyramidal geometry with the value of ${\tau}=0.06$. In both compounds, the NNN Schiff base and one Br atom occupy the basal plane, whereas the fifth apical position is occupied by the other Br atom at a greater Cu-Br apical distance. The reported complexes show $g_{\mid}$ > $g_{\perp}$ > 2.0023 with a $d_{x2-y2}$ ground state and a penta-coordinated square pyramidal geometry. Variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements showed that the developed copper(II) complexes follow the Curie-Weiss law, that is there are no magnetic interactions between the copper(II) ions since the Cu--Cu distance is too far for magnetic contact.
I presented three vector crustal magnetic anomaly components and six gradients by using spherical Slepian functions over the cap area of $20^{\circ}$ of radius centered on the South Pole. The Swarm mission, launched by European Space Agency(ESA) in November of 2013, was planned to put three satellites into the low-Earth orbits, two in parallel in East-West direction and one in cross-over of the higher altitude. This orbit configuration will make the gradient measurements possible in North-South direction, vertical direction, as well as E-W direction. The gravity satellites, such as GRACE and GOCE, have already implemented their gradient measurements for recovering the accurate gravity of the Earth and its temporal variation due to mass changes on the subsurface. However, the magnetic gradients have little been applied since Swarm launched. A localized magnetic modeling method is useful in taking an account for a region where data availability was limited or of interest was special. In particular, computation to get the localized solutions is much more efficient and it has an advantage of presenting high frequency anomaly features with numbers of solutions fewer than the global ones. Besides, these localized basis functions that were done by a linear transformation of the spherical harmonic functions, are orthogonal so that they can be used for power spectrum analysis by transforming the global spherical harmonic coefficients. I anticipate in scientific and technical progress in the localized modeling with the gradient measurements from Swarm and here will do discussion on the results of the localized solution to represent the three vector and six gradient anomalies over the Antarctic area from the synthetic data derived from a global solution of the spherical harmonics for the crustal magnetic anomalies of Swarm measurements.

The application of magnetic method for archaeoprospection has been carried out through two archaeological areas in Egypt, Abydos and Abu Sir, In order to find out tile ancient Egyptian archaeological features. The magnetic work at the selected archaeological site of Abydos area was carried out by gradiometer survey, while magnetic work at the selected archaeological site of Abu Sir area was carried out by gradiometer survey and magnetic susceptibility measurements. A gradiometer survey with raster of 0.5 m/0.5 m has been carried out on a surface area of $9600 m^2$ at Abydos area to relocate the buried Solar Boats. The magnetic data were processed using Geoplot software to treat the field noises and enhance the quality of the obtained images. The final magnetic images indicate the existence of 12 Solar Boats as well as tombs, remains of ancient rooms and walls. All of them are expected to belong to the Middle Kingdom, particularly from the 18th to 20th Dynasties. Two magnetic tools have been applied over a selected site of $25600 m^2$ at Abu Sir area in order to detect the hidden archaeological features nearby the Sun Temple. The acquisition of the magnetic data was initiated by the measurements of the topsoil magnetic susceptibility of 272 samples collected from the whole studied area, and then followed by the gradiometer survey to measure tile vertical gradient of the geomagnetic field over an area of $14400 m^2$. The magnetic susceptibility results show the presence of high concentration at the middle part of the study area with a little extension to the south western side, with maximum value of about $36{\times}10^5$ SI. They may indicate the proximity of ritual monuments. Also, they offered the site of interest for carrying out a gradiometer survey. The gradiometer results show tile existence of numerous distributed archaeological features made of mud-bricks with different shapes and sizes. They may indicate tombs, burial rooms, dissected walls; all of them are expected to belong to the 5th Dynasty of pharaohs, who used to build their buildings by mud bricks. The depth of the expected buried archaeological features has been estimated from tihe gradiometer. It is around 1.2m for deep features and 0.42 m for shallow features.

Magnetic properties of electrical steel are, in general. measured by using Epstein frame or single sheet tester (SST). These methods, however, require very strict regulation of a specimen in its size and shape. thus, can not be easily applied to various types of specimen. On the other hand, a ring-test method, which measures only the isotropic properties, can be easily applied to most cases because it requires a toroidal-type specimen of arbitrary size. This method, especially, is considered as an unique available method for a bulk-type specimen. In this paper, a ring-test method is developed, and applied to the measurement of magnetic properties of a bulk-type electrical steel with a toroidal-type specimen. In the measurement, the magnetic properties and iron losses are measured and compared with each other at the both sinusoidal magnetic flux density and sinusoidal magnetic field intensity conditions under 0.2Hz and 60Hz alternating magnetic fields excitation. Through experimental measurements, a sinusoidal magnetic flux density condition is proven appropriate for the measurement of magnetic properties, including iron loss characteristics, of electrical steels.
