In this paper, the magnetic fluid linear pump is designed. Inside the small tube, magnetic fluid is shielded with thin rubber protector. The magnetic fluid activated by traveling pulses of magnetic field drags the water inside the pump. The iterative algorithm for the shape of magnetic fluid is presented by using nonlinear finite element method and Navier-Stokes equations. The computed curvature of fluid under the magnetic field and the gravitational force is agreed well with photograph image. The dimension and electric configurations of the magnetic linear pump are optimized and the results are compared with measurements.
Through the coupling between the near-earth space environment and the polar ionosphere via geomagnetic field lines, the variations occurred in the magnetosphere are transferred to the polar region. According to recent studies, however, the polar ionosphere reacts not only passively to such variations, but also plays active roles in modifying the near-earth space environment. So the study of the polar ionosphere in terms of geomagnetic disturbance becomes one of the major elements in space weather research. Although it is an indirect method, ground magnetic disturbance data can be used in estimating the ionospheric current distribution. By employing a realistic ionospheric conductivity model, it is further possible to obtain the distributions of electric potential, field-aligned current, Joule heating rate and energy injection rate associated with precipitating auroral particles and their energy spectra in a global scale with a high time resolution. Considering that the ground magnetic disturbances are recorded simultaneously over the entire polar region wherever magnetic station is located, we are able to separate temporal disturbances from spatial ones. On the other hand, satellite measurements are indispensible in the space weather research, since they provide us with in situ measurements. Unfortunately it is not easy to separate temporal variations from spatial ones specifically measured by a single satellite. To demonstrate the usefulness of ground magnetic disturbance data in space weather research, various ionospheric quantities are calculated through the KRM method, one of the magneto gram inversion methods. In particular, we attempt to show how these quantities depend on the ionospheric conductivity model employed.
Two $RuSr_2(EuCe)Cu_2O_z$ samples (as prepared and after $N_2$ treatment) have been investigated by thermogravimetric (TC) analysis, high-resolution x-ray powder diffraction and magnetization measurements. TG measurements which were carried out in $H_2/Ar$ atmosphere showed that the $N_2$ treatment of the as-prepared sample at $650^{\circ}C$ for 2h leads to a decrease in the oxygen content z by about 0.25. This oxygen depletion was accompanied by an increase in the magnetic transition temperature from 54.0 K to 114.9 K. This magnetic behavior is discussed in connection with the results of Rietveld analysis of the x-ray diffraction data which showed that the $N_2$ treatment resulted in both a significant increase in the rotation angle of the $RuO_6$ octahedra and a decrease in c-lattice parameter of the sample.
YBCO do superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometers based on bicrystal junctions have been fabricated for magnetocardiograph (MCG) measurements. We could fabricate YBCO SQUID magnetometers having magnetic field noise of about $20fT/Hz^{1/2}$ at white noise region. We have developed an MCG system employing the high performance SQUID magnetometers. The lightweight MCG system, requiring liquid nitrogen as a coolant, consists of 6-channel SQUID sensors, an adjustable patient bed with sliding motion, and data analyses software. The MCG system could record quite clear MCG signals in a room with moderate magnetic shielding. In normal operation with multi-position MCG measurements, we could obtain clear 48-point mappings of magnetic field map and current source map with high enough signal qualities far clinical trials.
We report on the ferromagnetic characteristics of $Zn_{1-x}Mn_xO$ films (x = 0.3) prepared by sol-gel method on the silicon and (0001) ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ substrates at the annealing temperature of 700$^{\circ}C$. Magnetic measurements show that Curie temperature ($T_C$) and the coercive field ($H_C$) for the film on the silicon are about 32 K and about 275 Oe, while those for that on the sapphire are about 32 K and 425 Oe, respectively. Energy dispersive spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy measurements suggest that ferromagnetic precipitates originated by manganese oxide compound formed at the interfaces of the both substrates may be responsible for the observed ferromagnetic behavior of the films. Electron paramagnetic resonance study of the powders up to the concentration of x=0.15 supports the result.
FINEMET type nanocrystalline materials synthesized by controlled crystallization of amorphous ribbons[1] exhibit excellent soft magnetic properties making them attractive for technological applications. Present work reports the electronic structure studies of Co-substituted FINEMET to get information on the effect of successive Co substitution on local environment around Fe and Co atom by using near edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements. NEXAFS spectroscopy and XMCD measurements have been carried out at Fe $L_{3,2}$ and Co $L_{3,2}$-edges to investigate the chemical states and electronic structure of FINEMET [$(Fe_{100-x}Co_x)_{78}Si_9Nb_3Cu_1Ba$](0$L_{3,2}$-edge reveal that Fe is in 2+ state and in tetrahedral symmetry with other elements. The magnetic properties exhibiting soft magnetic behavior[2] are discussed on the basis of the electronic structure studied through XMCD.

We examined the temperature-dependent structural and magnetic properties of HgI2 in the temperature range of 300~400 K. HgI2 is a diamagnetic material and can be used for X-ray or γ-ray detectors. DCmagnetization measurements on HgI2 showed that there is a small but distinguishable change in its diamagnetic properties near 375 K. The magnetic property change is not expected because Hg and I are known as nonmagnetic elements. X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements revealed a structural transition in the temperature of 350~400 K. Temperature-dependent x-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) demonstrated that the chemical valence states of both Hg and I did not changed in the temperature range of 300~400 K. However, XAFS revealed that the bond-length disorder was slightly increased in the temperature range, particularly, near Hg atoms. The structural changes of HgI2 are likely related to its diamagnetic property change. We will discuss the relation between the diamagnetic properties and local structural properties of HgI2 in detail.
In nanomagnetism, one of the crucial scientific questions is whether magnetic behaviors are deterministic or stochastic on a nanoscale. Apart from the exciting physical issue, this question is also of paramount highest relevance for using magnetic materials in a wealth of technological applications such as magnetic storage and sensor devices. In the past, the research on the stochasticity of a magnetic process has been mainly done by macroscopic measurements, which only offer ensemble-averaged information. To give more accurate answer for the question and to fully understand related underlying physics, the direct observation of statistical behaviors in magnetic structures and magnetic phenomena utilizing advanced characterization techniques is highly required. One of the ideal tools for such study is a full-field soft X-ray microscope since it enables imaging of magnetic structures on the large field of view within a few seconds. Here we review the stochastic behaviors of various magnetic processes including magnetization reversal process in thin films, magnetic domain wall motions in nanowires, and magnetic vortex formations in nanodisks studied by full-field soft X-ray microscopy. The origin triggering the stochastic nature witnessed in each magnetic process and the way to control the intrinsic nature are also discussed.
In this paper, magnetic field compensation system with an open architecture and can be installed indoors is designed and measured by fabricated. To verify the shielding effectiveness, two rectangular helmholtz coils with 3-axis are fabricated to generate magnetic field and measured magnetic field inside compensation coil for 1~60[Hz], According to measurements, AC shielding effectiveness of compensation system is 96[%] of 1[Hz], 95[%] of 30[Hz] and 90[%] of 60[Hz]. The performance of system therefore can be used as the magnetically shielded room for medical and industrial field.
Magnetic suspensions based on passive levitation of diamagnetic materials on permanent magnets provide attractive systems for several applications on the micro and meso scales. The magnetic properties of these kinds of suspensions dramatically reduce the global mechanical stiffness of the devices providing significant effects on their dynamic response. The goal of this paper is to investigate the static and dynamic behavior of magnetic suspensions with respect to its dependant parameters. Experimental measurements have been performed on the response of dedicated prototypes where the geometrical dimensions and magnetic field strength have been intended as variable parameters. Some benefits have been documented in the fields of energy harvesting and inertial sensing, while additional applications of magnetic suspensions are under investigation.
