  • Electrocardiogram-gated single photon omission computed tomography (SPECT) provides valuable information in the assessment of both myocardial perfusion and ventricular function. Tl-201 is a suboptimal isotope for gating. Tl-201 images are more blurred compared with Tc-99m tracers due to the increased amount of scattered photons and use of a smooth filter. The average myocardial count densities are approximately one-half those of conventional technetium tracers. However, Tl-201 is still widely used because of its well-established utility for assessing myocardial perfusion, viability and risk stratification. Gated SPECT with Tl-201 enables us to assess both post-stress and rest left ventricular volume and function. Previous studies with gated Tl-201 SPECT measurements of ejection fraction (EF), end-diastolic volume (EDV), end-systolic volume (ESV) have shown high correlation with first-pass radionuclide angiography, gated blood pool scan, Tc-99m-MIBI gated SPECT, contrast ventriculography, echocardiography, and 3-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging. However, problems related to these studies include few agreement data of EDV and ESV, use of a reference method that is likely to have the same systemic errors (gated Tc-99m-MIBI SPECT), and other technical factors related to the count density of gated SPECT. With optimization of gated imaging protocols and more validation studies, gated Tl-201 SPECT would be an accurate method to provide perfusion and function information in patients with coronary artery disease.

  • Electron tomography (ET) of biological specimens is performed from a series of images obtained over a range of tilt angles in a transmission electron microscope. When using the high voltage electron microscope (HVEM), various noises appear in EM images acquired from thick sections by high voltage electron beam. In order to obtain an adequate result in electron tomograms that allow visualization of rather complex and mega-cellular structure such as brain tissue, it is necessary to remove the noise in each original tilt images of thick section. Using band-pass filtering of original tilt images, the filtered images are obtained and used to assemble a reconstructed tomogram. The qualified 3D tomogram from filtered images results in a considerable reduction of the noises compared to conventional tomogram. In conclusion, this study suggests that band-pass filtering is effective to improve the brightness and intensity of HVEM produced tomograms acquired from micron-thick sections of biological specimens.

  • Recently, It has been reported that the spin sprayed ferite film shows better magnetic properties at high frequeny that the ferrite by co-firing over $800^{\circ}C$ . Besides, there is no limitation to select the substrate materials because it can be processed with relatively low temperature below $100^{\circ}C$. Therefore, we fabricated film inductor as a passive device for DC-DC converter by a use of spin sprayed embedded form was completed by via hole process of pad opening. Saturation magnetization of 0.61 T and real part of permeability of 110 were obtained in Ni-Zn ferrite. In addition, inductance of 1.52 ${\mu}H$, quality factor of 24.3 at 5 MHz were measured with spiral 16 turn inductor. The rated current of inductor was 863 mA.

  • We observed an Ellerman bomb(EB) and its associated surge using the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph(FISS) and the broadband TiO filter of the 1.6 meter New Solar Telescope at Big Bear Solar Observatory. As is well-known, the EB appears as a feature that is very bright at the far wings of the H alpha line. The lambdameter method applied to these wings indicates that the EB is blue-shifted up to 6km/s in velocity. In the photospheric level below the EB, we see rapidly growing "granule-like" feature. The transverse velocity of the dark lane at the edge of the "granule" increased with time as reached a peak of 6km/s, at the time of the EB's occurrence. The surge was seen in absorption and varied rapidly both in the H alpha and the Ca II 8542 line. It originated from the Ellerman bomb, and was impulsively accelerated to 20km/s toward us(blueshift). Then the velocity of the surge gradually changed from blueshift of 20km/s to redshift of 40km/s. By adopting the cloud model, we estimated the temperature of the surge material at about 27000K and the non-thermal velocity at about 10km/s. Our results shed light on the conventional idea that an EB results from the magnetic reconnection of an emerging flux tube and pre-existing field line.

  • This paper presents a hybrid underwater navigation system for unmanned underwater vehicles, using an additional range sonar, where the navigation system is based on inertial and Doppler velocity sensors. Conventional underwater navigation systems are generally based on an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a Doppler velocity log (DVL), accompanying a magnetic compass and a depth sensor. Although the conventional navigation systems update the bias errors of inertial sensors and the scale effects of DVL, the estimated position slowly drifts as time passes. This paper proposes a measurement model that uses the range sonar to improve the performance of the IMU-DVL navigation system, for extended operation of underwater vehicles. The proposed navigation model includes the bias errors of IMU, the scale effects of VL, and the bias error of the range sonar. An extended Kalman filter was adopted to propagate the error covariance, to update the measurement errors, and to correct the state equation, when the external measurements are available. To illustrate the effectiveness of the hybrid navigation system, simulations were conducted with the 6-d.o.f. equations of motion of an AUV in lawn-mowing survey mode.

  • In concrete slab track, the signal current using wayside transmitter of ATP (Automatic Train Protection) system is influenced by reinforcing bars. The magnetic coupling between reinforcing bars and wayside transmitter of ATP system as a filter makes an input current distorted. So, it makes an alternating current signal with a desirable size not transmit to on-board system of a train. Way to decrease the distortion of an input current signal frequency is to avoid maximum induction current frequency. And the induction phenomenon between reinforcing bars insulated and wayside transmitter of ATP system does not occur. In this paper, we represent the model about wayside transmitter of ATP system and reinforcing bars on the concrete slab tracks, and calculated the parameters demanded for the model. Also, we demonstrated it through the Maxwell program. Furthermore, we calculated impedance on wayside transmitter used in KVB system and ERTMS/ETCS system which are a kind of ATP system, frequency response of induction current, using Matlab, and demonstrated the validity of it, using PSpice program.

  • $Y_{3}Fe_{5}O_{12}$ based garnet films(thin or thick) offer a great promise for the application of microwave communication components. We investigated the magnetic and crystallographic preperties of $Y_{3}Fe_{5}O_{12}$ thick films prepared by KrF eximer laser ablation of a stoichiometric garnet target. It was possible to obtain almost epitaxially oriented films on $Al_{2}O_{3}$(1102) plane. Although the crystalline quality depends on substrate temperature and $O_{2}$ partial pressure used($Po_{2}$), 4.1m thick films of $4{\pi}M_{s}=1300$ Gauss and $H_{c}=37.5$ Oe were obtained at the substrate temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ with the $Po_{2}$ of 100 mTorr after annealing the as-deposited films at $700^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. These films are expected to be used for magnetostatic spin wave filters at narrow bandwidth frequency.

  • In order to improve the accuracy of microseismic epicenter location through the inversion techniques using P and S wave first arrivals, field experiments of microseismic monitoring were performed using borehole 3-component geophones. The direction of epicenter was estimated from the hodograms of P-wave first arrivals through the weight drop experiments in which the $\times$ component of 3-component geophone was aligned to the magnetic north. The picking of S wave first arrival was possible in the polarization filtered data even if S waves are difficult to be identified in raw data. The inversion technique using only P wave first arrival times can often converge to the local minimum when the initial values for epicenter are largely apart from the true epicenter, so that the correct solution can not be found. To solve this problem, the epicenter determination method using differences between P and S wave arrival times was used to estimate proper initial values of epicenter. The inversion result using only P-wave first arrival times which started from the estimated initial values showed the improved accuracy of the epicenter location.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to assess the dosimetric and clinical feasibility of volumetric modulated arc based hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (RapidArc) treatment for large acoustic schwannoma (AS >10cc). Materials and Methods: Ten AS patients were immobilized using BrainLab mask. They were subject to multimodality imaging (magnetic resonance and computed tomography) to contour target and organs at risk (brainstem and cochlea). Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) based stereotactic plans were optimized in Eclipse (V11) treatment planning system (TPS) using progressive resolution optimizer-III and final dose calculations were performed using analytical anisotropic algorithm with 1.5 mm grid resolution. All AS presented in this study were treated with VMAT based HSRT to a total dose of 25Gy in 5 fractions (5fractions/week). VMAT plan contains 2-4 non-coplanar arcs. Treatment planning was performed to achieve at least 99% of PTV volume (D99) receives 100% of prescription dose (25Gy), while dose to OAR's were kept below the tolerance limits. Dose-volume histograms (DVH) were analyzed to assess plan quality. Treatments were delivered using upgraded 6 MV un-flattened photon beam (FFF) from Clinac-iX machine. Extensive pretreatment quality assurance measurements were carried out to report on quality of delivery. Point dosimetry was performed using three different detectors, which includes CC13 ion-chamber, Exradin A14 ion-chamber and Exradin W1 plastic scintillator detector (PSD) which have measuring volume of $0.13cm^3$, $0.009cm^3$ and $0.002cm^3$ respectively. Results: Average PTV volume of AS was 11.3cc (${\pm}4.8$), and located in eloquent areas. VMAT plans provided complete PTV coverage with average conformity index of 1.06 (${\pm}0.05$). OAR's dose were kept below tolerance limit recommend by American Association of Physicist in Medicine task group-101(brainstem $V_{0.5cc}$ < 23Gy, cochlea maximum < 25Gy and Optic pathway <25Gy). PSD resulted in superior dosimetric accuracy compared with other two detectors (p=0.021 for PSD.

  • To reduce the chattering errors of reed switch sensors in the automatic remote measurement of water meter a reed switch sensor was analyzed and improved. The operation of reed switch sensors can be described as a mechanical contact switch by approximation of permanent magnet piece to generate an electrical pulse. The reed switch sensors are used mostly in measurement application to detect the rotational or translational displacement. To apply for water flow measurement devices, the reed switch sensors should keep high reliability. They are applied for the electronic digital type of water flow meters. The reed switch sensor is just mounted simply on the conventional mechanical type flow meter. A small magnet is attached on a pointer of the water meter counter rotor. Inside the reed sensor two steel leaf springs make mechanical contact and apart repeatedly as rotation of flow meter counter. The counting electrical contact pulses can be converted as the water flow amount. The MCU sends the digital flow rate data to the server using the wireless communication network. But the digital data is occurred difference or won by chattering noise. The reed switch sensor contains chattering error by it self at the force equivalent position. The vibrations such as passing vehicle near to the switch sensor installed location causes chattering. In order to reduce chattering error, most system uses just software methods, for example using filter algorithm and also statistical calibration methods. The chattering errors were reduced by changing leaf spring structure using mechanical characteristics.
