In a longitudinal neuroimaging study, the upgrades of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner due to outdated hardwares and softwares make it difficult to maintain the same MRI conditions in the long-term research period. Particularly, high field MRI systems such 3T scanners become popular in recent years. However, it is still unclear whether an integrated analysis of 3T and 1.5T images is possible without consideration of the field strength. In this study, we evaluated the reproducibility of hippocampal volumes between brain images with different field strengths and slice orientations. 296 participants underwent both 3T and 1.5T MRI and both sagittal and axial scans for high resolution brain images, and their hippocampal volumes were measured using Freesurfer, a well-known software for neuroimaging analysis. Paired t-tests showed that the hippocampal volumes were significantly different between the image types. These results suggest that it is necessary to develop data analysis techniques for integrating diverse types of MRI images.

The characteristics of flow and oxygen concentration are numerically studied in Czochralski 8" silicon crystal growing process considering radiative heat transfer. The analysis of net radiative heat flux on all relevant surfaces shows growing crystal affects the heater power. Furthermore, the variation of the radiative heat flux along the crystal surface in the growing direction is confirmed and should be a cause of thermal stress and defect of the crystal. The calculated distributions of temperature and, heat flux along the wall boundaries including melt/crystal interface, free surface and crucible wall indicate that the frequently used assumption of the thermal boundary conditions of insulated crucible bottom and constant temperature at crucible side wall is not suitable to meet the real physical boundary conditions. It is necessary, therefore, to calculate radiative heat transfer simultaneously with the melt flow in order to simulate the real CZ crystal growth. If only natural convection is considered, the oxygen concentration on the melt/crystal interface decreases and becomes uniform by the application of a cusp magnetic filed. The heater power needed also increases with increasing the magnetic field. For the case of counter rotation of the crystal and crucible, the magnetic field suppresses azimutal flow produced by the crucible rotation, which results in the higher oxygen concentration near the interface.

In this paper, we analyze self field effects of Bi-2223 tape-stacked cable assuming constant current density in the cross section of stacked cable. Generally, the critical current of Bi-2223 tape-stacked-cable in much less than the total summation of critical currents of each tape, which is mainly due to the self magnetic fields of the cable itself. Therefore, to predict the critical current of Bi-2223 tape-stacked-cable, we needs to analyze the self filed effects on the stacked cable as well as critical current density data(J$\_$C/) of one tape. To make it more complex, the critical current degradation of Bi-2223 tape is an-isotropic; the critical current is lower in the normal magnetic field(to the tape surface) than in the parallel field. In the paper, a novel approach to predict the critical current of a Bi-2223 tape-stacked-cable from a J$\_$C/-B curve of one tape is presented with the assumption of constant current density across the stacked cable, The approach basically includes the load analysis of the stacked tapes, and its usefulness is confirmed by the experimental data.

The APU(Auxiliary Power Unit) needs a set of complex pipeline for the fuel supply system where some of the main valves controlling the flow rate consist of the servo valve worked with a torque motor. The input electric current produces an induced magnetic field almost perpendicular to the background magnetic filed generated by fixed permanent magnets. The induced torque deforms the tubular bushing, and directly rotates an armature, which can open and close the valve. In this study, we start from a basic analytic model using a simple electro-magneto-statics, and expand our model to the three-dimensional one computationally applying a commercial code named COMSOL. The result is compared with each other, and reasonable numerical data are obtained for the dynamic behavior and multi-physics system.
We employed home-made position marking module in the scanning Hall probe system. The module is composed of two coils of which gap, a, between wires in a coil is $500{\mu}m$. We appiled 10-35mA of current with 15Hz in the coils and recorded ac corresponding magnetic field signal with respect to measuring time while we measured DC field profiles produced due to superconducting film in a perpendicular magnetic field. We calibrate the position, x, of coils using the measuring time and location of the coils in the holder. The error range was about ${\pm}0.1mm$. We test the module as we applied current of 100A and filed of 1kG in the superconducting tape. It was confirmed that there was no interference between superconducting tape and marking coils.

Coil inductor has been used widely as an electromagnet, because of the high magnetic filed resulting from the voltage applied to the coil. In this study the coils were used in vibration suppression as an actuator. The control system consists of a coil attached in aluminum beam and a permanent magnet set at its bottom. This actuation method is easy to be incorporated into the system and allows significant forces to be applied without contacting with the structure. Three types of coils (cylindrical type, square type, Circular sheet type) were employed in vibration suppression of cantilever beam. The positive position feedback (PPF) controller was applied to the magnet-coil actuator to suppress the first mode of vibration. Experimental results showed that the cylindrical type and square type coil made good vibration suppression efficiency under PPF controller than their eddy current damper. However, there was minimal difference for the circular sheet type coil if compared with its eddy current damper.

This paper presents response property of the squeeze mode type mount using Magneto-Rheological fluid (MR fluid) . The MR mount for the isolation of multi-directional vibrations was constructed in this study. Both the mechanism and shape of the mount are the same as squeeze film dampers for a rotor system. In the present work, the performance of the mount was experimentally Investigated according to the magnetic field strength. The experimental results present that the MR mount can effectively reduce the vibration in a wide range of frequency by controlling the applied electromagnetic filed strength. Viscous damping and stiffness coefficients of the MR mount tend to be changed according to the variation of the applied currents In this study.

A 2.45 GHz electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) plasma source with a belt magnet assembly configuration (BMC) was developed for hyperthermal neutral beam (HNB) generation. A plasma source for high flux HNB generation should be satisfied with the requirements: low pressure operation, high density, and thin plasma. The ECR plasma source with BMC achieved high density at low operation pressure due to electron confinement enhancement caused by high mirror ratio and drifts in toroidal direction. The 2.45 GHz microwave launcher had a circularly bended WR340 waveguide with slits. The microwave E-field profile induced by the microwave launcher was studied in this paper. The E-field profile was a cups field perpendicular to B-filed at ECR zone. The optimized E-field profile and B-field were found for effective ECR heating.
To cope with the demagnetization risk of permanent magnets used in Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors(IPMSM), an accurate iron analysis and thermal analysis are very important. In this research, to calculate thermal increment of IPMSM for high-speed traction motor, we will extract losses of IPMSM considering the condition of field weakening control. Then we will input the calculated losses such as iron loss and copper loss as the thermal sources. Based on magnetic filed and thermal analysis, we will support the design of IPMSM for high-speed train.
This paper investigates the influence of mechanical energy storage on the interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM) when it is operated in the generating mode. An IPMSM with six-poles and nine-slots employing concentrated coil winding type is considered as the analysis model, and a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor directly connected to a heavy wheel is applied as the mechanical energy storage system by using the moment of inertia. Based on the constructed experimental set-up with manufactured machines and power converters, the generated electrical energy is converted into the mechanical energy, and the electromagnetic filed characteristics of IPMSM are subsequently investigated by applying the measured phase current of IPMSM based on finite element method. Compared to the characteristics in a no-load condition, it is confirmed that the magnetic behavior, radial force, and power loss characteristics are highly influenced by the harmonics of the phase current due to the mechanical energy storage system.
