Metabolites of urine samples from 6 colorectal cancer patients were analyzed by two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, where the samples were collected before and after the surgical treatments per patient. NMR data were analyzed with the help of the metabolome database and the statistics software. Urine samples before and after the treatments showed significantly different metabolic profiles from each other. We were able to compare 10 different metabolites. Most of the assigned metabolites of every patient showed a tendency of increase after the surgery except for a few cases. The amount of changes in individual metabolites varied significantly from patient to patient, but the combination of such changes could be used to distinguish the condition before the surgery from after, which could be done by PCA analysis. The analysis via $^{1}H-^{13}C$ HSQC spectra proved to be applicable in assessing and classifying global metabolic profiles of the urines from colorectal cancer patients.
The HP0902, a homodimeric 22.1 kDa protein, has been suggested as a putative secretory protein from Helicobacter pylori, although the protein possesses no signal peptide for secretion. Since it may be associated with the virulence of the bacterium, NMR study has been initiated in terms of structural genomics. In our previous effort to assign the backbone NMR resonances, using 800MHz NMR machine at pH 7.8, the resonances from eight of the 99 residues could not be assined due to missing of the signals. In this work, to enhance the extent of assignments, a 900 MHz machine was employed and the sample pH was reduced down to 6.5. Finally, almost all signals, except for those from G9 and S24, could be clearly assigned. The determined secondary structure using the assined chemical shifts indicated that the HP0902 consists of 11 ${\beta}$-strands with no helices. In our database search result, HP0902 was predicted to interact with VacA (Vacuolating cytotoxin A), which is a representative virulence factor secreted from Helicobacter pylori. Thus, molecular interaction between HP0902 and VacA would be worthy of investigation, on the basis of the present results of NMR assignments.
The genesis of ore bodies is a very diverse and complex process, and the target depth of mineral exploration increases. These create a need for predictive mineral exploration, which may be facilitated by the advancement of machine learning and geological database. In this study, we confirm that the faults and igneous rocks distributions and magnetic data can be used as input data for potential mapping using deep neural networks. When the input data are constructed with faults, igneous rocks, and magnetic data, we can build a potential mapping model of the metal deposit that has a predictive accuracy greater than 0.9. If detailed geological and geophysical data are obtained, this approach can be applied to the potential mapping on a mine scale. In addition, we confirm that the magnetic data, which provide the distribution of the underground igneous rock, can supplement the limited information from the surface igneous rock distribution. Therefore, rather than simply integrating various data sets, it will be more important to integrate information considering the geological correlation to genesis of minerals.

Purpose: Brain surface intensity model (BSIM)-based cortical thickness analysis does not require complicated 3D segmentation of brain gray/white matters. Instead, this technique uses the local intensity profile to compute cortical thickness. The aim of the present study was to evaluate intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of BSIM-based cortical thickness analysis using images from elderly participants. Materials and Methods: Fifteen healthy elderly participants (ages, 55-84 years) were included in this study. High-resolution 3D T1-spoiled gradient recalled-echo (SPGR) images were obtained using 3T MRI. BSIM-based processing steps included an inhomogeneity correction, intensity normalization, skull stripping, atlas registration, extraction of intensity profiles, and calculation of cortical thickness. Processing steps were automatic, with the exception of semiautomatic skull stripping. Individual cortical thicknesses were compared to a database indicating mean cortical thickness of healthy adults, in order to produce Z-score thinning maps. Intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) were calculated in order to evaluate inter-rater and intra-rater reliabilities. Results: ICCs for intra-rater reliability were excellent, ranging from 0.751-0.940 in brain regions except the right occipital, left anterior cingulate, and left and right cerebellum (ICCs = 0.65-0.741). Although ICCs for inter-rater reliability were fair to excellent in most regions, poor inter-rater correlations were observed for the cingulate and occipital regions. Processing time, including manual skull stripping, was $17.07{\pm}3.43min$. Z-score maps for all participants indicated that cortical thicknesses were not significantly different from those in the comparison databases of healthy adults. Conclusion: BSIM-based cortical thickness measurements provide acceptable intra-rater and inter-rater reliability. We therefore suggest BSIM-based cortical thickness analysis as an adjunct clinical tool to detect cortical atrophy.
We have investigated seven Extreme-Ultraviolet (EUV) bright points in the active region (AR 10926) on 2006 December 2 by the EUV imaging spectrometer (EIS) onboard Hinode spacecraft. We determined their Doppler velocities and non-thermal velocities from 15 EUV spectral lines (log T=4.7-7.2) by fitting each line profile to a Gaussian function. We present the Doppler velocity map as a function of temperature which corresponds to a different height. As a result, these active region bright points show two different types of characteristics. Type 1 bright point shows a systematic increase of Doppler velocity from -68 km/s (blue shift) at log T=4.7 to 27 km/s (red shift) at log T=6.7, while type 2 bright points have Doppler velocities in the range of -20 km/s and 20 km/s. Using MDI magnetograms, we found that only type 1 bright point was associated with the canceling magnetic feature at the rate of $2.4{\times}10^{18}$ Mx/hour. When assuming that these bright points are caused by magnetic reconnection and the Doppler shift indicates reconnection out flow, the pattern of the Doppler shift implies that type 1 bright point should be related to low atmosphere magnetic reconnection. We also determined electron densities from line ratio as well as temperatures from emission measure loci using CHIANTI atomic database. The electron densities of all bright points are comparable to typical values of active regions (log Ne=9.9-10.4). For the temperature analysis, the emission loci plots indicate that these bright points should not be isothermal though background is isothermal. The DEM analysis also show that while the background has a single peak distribution (isothermal), the EUV bright points, double peak distributions.

Background: Magnetic resonance (MR) images are useful for diagnosing myopathy. The purpose of this study was to determine the usefulness of lower-limb MR images in Korean patients with distal myopathy. Methods: We reviewed medical records in the myopathy database from January 2002 to October 2016. We selected 21 patients from 91 unrelated families with distal myopathy: four with GNE myopathy, 11 with dysferlinopathy, and six with ADSSL1 myopathy. Results: Ten (48%) of the 21 patients were men. The ages of the participants at symptom onset and imaging were $19.2{\pm}9.5$ and $30.4{\pm}9.0$ years (mean${\pm}$standard deviation), respectively. Their grade on the modified Gardner-Medwin and Walton grade was $3.3{\pm}1.7$. The strength grade of the knee extensors was not correlated with the Mercuri scale for the quadriceps (r = -0.247, p = 0.115). However, the Medical Research Council grades of the knee flexors, ankle dorsiflexors, and ankle plantar flexors were significantly correlated with the Mercuri scale ratings of the knee flexors (r = -0.497, p = 0.001), tibialis anterior (r = -0.727, p < 0.001), and ankle plantar flexors (r = -0.620, p < 0.001), respectively. T1-weighted MR images showed characteristic fatty replacement patterns that were consistent with the causative genes. Unsupervised hierarchical clustering of the Mercuri scale showed that the main factors contributing to the dichotomy were the causative gene and the clinical severity. Conclusions: This study is the first to reveal the usefulness of lower-limb MR images in the differential diagnosis of distal myopathy in Korea.
Purpose: This study was to analyze the effect size of complementary and alternative intervention studies in reference to dysmenorrhea and menstrual distress. Methods: In order to conduct a meta-analysis, a total of 393 studies were retrieved from the database. Twenty-eight studies that were published from March 2001 to February 2011 were selected. Results: Intervention studies included seven studies on aromatherapy, five on auriculotherapy, three on each Koryo-Sooji-Chim and moxibustion, two on each heat therapy and magnetic therapy and six on other therapy. The effect size of the intervention studies on dysmenorrhea and menstrual distress was greater than 0.48 for Koryo-Sooji-Chim, moxibustion, aromatherapy, auriculotherapy and other therapy. Conclusion: This study suggests that drug free therapy can reduce the levels of menstrual distress, despite the small number of intervention studies and randomized controlled trials.
The purpose of this study is to establish a CAD (Computer Aided Design) system for research and development(R&D) of a new product. In the R&D process of a new product, the design objects are frequently redesigned based on the experimental results obtained with prototypes. The CAD/CAE systems (which is based on computer simulation of physical phenomena) are effective in reducing the number of useless prototypes of a new product. These kinds of conventional CAD/CAE systems do not provide a function to reflect the experimental results to the redesign process, however. This paper proposes a methodology to establish the CAD system, which possesses the engineering model of a designed object in the model database, and refines the model on the basis of experimental results of prototype. The blackboard inference model has been applied to infer model refinement and redesign counterplan by using insufficient knowledge of R&D process of new products.

Although the switched reluctance motor (SRM) has a several advantages such as simple magnetic structure, robustness, wide range of speed characteristics and simple driving, it has a considerable inherent torque ripple and speed variation duet to the driving characteristics of pulse current waveform and the nonlinear inductance profile. The high torque ripple and speed variation inhibits wide application. The minimization of the torque ripple is very important in high performance servo drive applications, which require smooth operation with minimum torque pulsations. This paper presents the new SRM torque modeling technique for the control of instantaneous torque. The SRM is modeled by the database of torque profiles for every small variation in currents and rotor angles, which is inferred from the several measured data by the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference technique. Simulation results demonstrating the effectiveness of proposed torque modeling technique are presented.
We studied basic ideas of a network based Gravity/Magnetic data processing server/client system which provides functions of data processing, forward modeling, inversion and data process on Data Base. This Java technology was used to provide facilities, socket communication and JDBC(Java Database Connectivity) technology to produce an effective and practical client application. The server computers are linked by network to process the MPI parallelized computing. This can provide useful devices of the geophysical process and modeling that usually require massive computing performance and time. Since this system can be accessed by lots of users, it can provides the consistent and confident results through the verified processing programs. This system also makes it possible to get results and outputs through internet when their local machines are connected to the network. It can help many users who want to omit the jobs of system administration and to process data during their field works.
