The superconducting synchronous motor or generator mostly has high permeability iron only around outer yoke portion. Therefore, if excitation voltage (Back E.M.F) is calculated from 2 dimensional magnetic field distributions, it can be largely different from actual value due to additional voltage originated from end coils. In order to calculate the excitation voltage more accurately, 3 dimensional magnetic field calculation is necessary for including the end coil effect from large air-gap structure. The excitation voltage can be calculated by stator (armature) coil linkage flux originated from rotor (field) coil excitation, but it is difficult to calculate the flux linkage exactly because of complicated structure of the stator coil. This paper shows a method to calculate the excitation voltage from 3 dimensional magnetic energy that can be calculated directly from volume integration of magnetic flux density and field intensity scalar product through FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis software.

Cobalt ferrocyanide (CoFC) or nickel ferrocyanide (NiFC) magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were fabricated for efficient removal of radioactive cesium, followed by rapid magnetic separation of the absorbent from contaminated water. The $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles, synthesized using a co-precipitation method, were coated with succinic acid (SA) to immobilize the Co or Ni ions through metal coordination to carboxyl groups in the SA. CoFC or NiFC was subsequently formed on the surfaces of the MNPs as Co or Ni ions coordinated with the hexacyanoferrate ions. The CoFC-MNPs and NiFC-MNPs possess good saturation magnetization values ($43.2emu{\cdot}g^{-1}$ for the CoFC-MNPs, and $47.7emu{\cdot}g^{-1}$ for the NiFC-MNPs). The fabricated CoFC-MNPs and NiFC-MNPs were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, TEM, and DLS. The adsorption capability of the CoFC-MNPs and NiFC-MNPs in removing cesium ions from water was also investigated. Batch experiments revealed that the maximum adsorption capacity values were $15.63mg{\cdot}g^{-1}$ (CoFC-MNPs) and $12.11mg{\cdot}g^{-1}$ (NiFC-MNPs). Langmuir/Freundlich adsorption isotherm equations were used to fit the experimental data and evaluate the adsorption process. The CoFC-MNPs and NiFC-MNPs exhibited a removal efficiency exceeding 99.09% for radioactive cesium from $^{137}Cs$ solution ($18-21Bq{\cdot}g^{-1}$). The adsorbent selectively adsorbed $^{137}Cs$, even in the presence of competing cations.
The magnetic and magneto-optical properties of the Tb/Co multilayers as a function of the layer thickness and the ratio of Tb/Co thicknesses were studied. When the thickness of Tb layer was $12{\AA}$, the maximum perpendicular anisotropy energy and the maximum thickness ratio which displays the perpendicular anisotropy were obtained. This result indicated that the Tb-Tb and Co-Co pairs as well as the Tb-Co pairs contribute to the perpendicular anisotropy. The Kerr rotation angle, $({\theta}_k)$ was proportional to the perpendicular anisotropy energy and was inversely proportional to the average spin dispersion angle, $(\alpha)$. The maximum $({\theta}_k)$ of $0.28^{\circ}$ was obtained in the film of $12{\AA}$ Tb and the thickness ratio of 1.55. The abnormal hysteresis loops were appeared during the aging treatment because the coercivity difference between the Co layer and the Tb layer was increased by the preferential oxidation of Tb.
We calculated the electronic structures of substituted cobalt nitrides, that is $FeCo_3N$ and $NiCo_3Ni$, by using the all electron fullpotential linearized augmented plane-wave (FLAPW) energy band method, and investigated the influence on the magnetic properties of $Co_4N$ due to the substitution of Co atom located at corner sites by iron and nickel atoms. We found that the magnetic moments of CoII atoms located at the face-center positions in these compounds are almost same to that of $Co_4N$. The magnetic moments of Fe and Ni atoms in $FeCo_3N$ and $NiCo_3Ni$ are 3.086 and $0.795\;{\mu}_B$, and they have the localized nature of magnetism.

Co-based amorphous powder was produced by a new atomization process "Spinning Water Atomization Process (SWAP)", having rapid super-cooling rate. The composition of the alloys was ($(Co_{0.95}Fe_{0.05})_{1-x}Cr_x$)$_{75}Si_{15}B_{10}$ (x=0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.075). The powders became the amorphous state even if particle size was up to about $500{\mu}m$. The coercive force of powders was about 0.35 - 0.7 Oe. Furthermore, Co-based amorphous powder cores with glass binders were made by cold-pressing and sintering methods. The initial permeability of the core in the frequency range up to 100 kHz was about 110, and the core loss at 100 kHz for Bm = 0.1 T was $350kW/m^3$.

Co-22 %Cr alloy films are promising for high-density perpendicular magnetic recording media with their perpendicular anisotropy and large coercivity of 3000 Oe. We observed that a self organized nano structure (SONS) of fine ferromagnetic Co-enriched phase and paramagnetic Cr-enriched phase appears inside the grain of Co-Cr magnetic alloy thin films at the elevated substrate temperature after do-sputtering. The periodic fine Co-enriched phase and Cr-enriched phase is the plate shape of 80 (equation omitted)-wide and 1000 (equation omitted)-long. Cr-enriched phases are located at the center of grains. We prepared 5000 (equation omitted) -thick Co-22 %Cr films on polyimide substrate with varying substrate temperature of $ 30^{\circ}C$, $ 150^{\circ}C$ ,200 $^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$, and $400^{\circ}C$, respectively. A transmission electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive X-ray analyzer is employed to observe the microstructure of each samples after Co-enri-ched phase are etched selectively. The self organized nano structure of Co-enriched and Cr-enriched lamellar is observed above the substrate temperture of $150^{\circ}C$. No compositional change is observed with substrate temperature. The compositional phase separation in self organized structure becomes clear as the substrate temperature increases. Our results implies that the self organized nano structure in Co-22 %Cr film is ideal for ultra high density recording media by recording selectively on Co-enri-ohed phase.
Co/Pd and Co/Pt multilayered thin films for perpendicular magnetic recording media were fabricated by sput¬tering method and the effects of the sputtering pressure during the formation of Pd or Pt underlayers on the magnetization behavior and coercivity of the multilayers were investigated. It was found that the coercivity of Co/Pd multilayers was strongly dependent on the sputtering pressure of underlayer and could be enhanced to a large extent merely by increasing the sputtering pressure of underlayer, while in case of Co/Pt films, the degree of coercivity enhancement by controlling the sputtering pressure of underlayer was almost negligible. Coercivity variation of Co/Pd and Co/Pt multilayers with the underlayer material and deposition pressure of underlayer could be well explained in terms of the interface roughness of multilayer films induced by underlayer topology, which could also be correlated to the change of perpendicular anisotropy energy and magnetic reversal feature with the sputtering pressure of underlayer. Kerr rotation angle was hardly affected by the preparation conditions of underlayers.
To simulate the characteristics of magnetic exchange coupling at the interface of MR/TbCo thin films, the directions of magnetizations were calculated by minimizing energy in the films. Newton method and Gauss-Seidel method were used. The width of M-H curve increased with TbCo anisotropy constant, and with the thickness of the transition region of TbCo layer. Hysteresis loop width became extremely narrow (less than 10 Oe of coercivity), when the TbCo transition region length was $400\;\AA$. Also the hysteresis loop of films with low interfacial exchange coupling constant was similiar to that of short transition region length. When interfacial exchange coupling constant was 1/100 of perfect coupling, hysteresis loop showed a coercivity of less than 10 Oe. Comparing the measured hysteresis loop of a fabricated sample with that of simulated one, exchange coupling con¬stant could be estimated.
In this paper, a Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) employed in an electric vehicle (EV) is designed using the finite element method (FEM). The static torque of the SRM is estimated through magnetic field analysis. The SRM temperature rise over operation time is estimated through heat transfer analysis. First, static torque and temperature rise over the time of 600W SRM is included in the experiment set, and are compared with the calculated results using the FEM under the same conditions. The validity of the magnetic field analysis and heat transfer analysis is verified by the comparisons. In addition, a 60 [kW] SRM employed in an EV, whose output characteristics are equal to a 1500 [cc] gasoline engine, is designed under magnetic field analysis and heat transfer analysis.
Multilayered films of Co/Pd have been studied as a candidate material for a high density perpendicular recording medium due to higher anisotropy energy. However, high exchange coupling among grains results in large transition noise. To reduce the exchange coupling and grain size, addition of 3rd elements and physical separation of grains have been attempted. In the present paper, effects of sputtering pressure, Co sublayer thickness and Pd underlayer thickness on magnetic properties and microstructures were studied. It was found that by increasing sputtering pressure from 5 mTorr to 25 mTorr, Ms decreased to one half and coercivity increased more than 5000 Oe. The increase of the coercivity is associated with physical separation of grains by high pressure sputtering. Ms per volume of Co for Co/Pd multilayered film deposited at 25 mTorr shows continuous decrease with increasing Co sublayer thickness. This was related to void formation and intermixing of Co/Pd interface. Also, effect of Pd underlayer thickness on magnetic properties will be discussed.
