The Multi-view Video Coding (MVC) which is exploiting disparities between views has been developed to improve the coding efficiency of multi-view video. But MVC has a problem of having high computing complexities because of disparity estimation. This paper propose a fast mode decision for non-anchor picture to reduce the computational time of MVC. The proposed method uses two phases. Anchor pictures in hierarchical B picture structure have a higher correlation with prediction mode selection of non-anchor pictures, so in the first phase, prediction mode of non-anchor pictures is selected by exploiting the macro-block regions in anchor picture. In the second phase, we select a reference direction of inter prediction mode exploiting a higher correlation among reference directions of inter prediction modes of 7 block sizes. Experimental results show that the proposed method could save average about 44% in the encoding time with negligible coding efficiency losses.
Interaction of lateral loading, combined with axial force needs to be determined with care in reinforced concrete (RC) one-dimensional structural members (1D SMs) such as beam-columns (BCs) and columns. RC 1D SMs under heavy axial loading are known to fail by brittle mode and small lateral displacements. In this paper, a macro element-based algorithm is proposed to analyze the RC 1D SMs under monotonic or cyclic combined loading. The 1D SMs are discretized into macro-elements (MEs) located between the critical sections and the inflection points. The critical sections are discretized into fixed rectangular finite elements (FRFE). The nonlinear behavior of confined and unconfined concretes and steel elements are considered in the proposed algorithm. The proposed algorithm has been validated by the results of experimental tests carried out on full-scale RC structural members. The evolution of ultimate strain at extreme compression fiber of a rectangular RC section for different orientations of lateral loading shows that the ultimate strain decreases with increasing the axial force. In the examined cases, this ultimate strain ranges from 0.0024 to 0.0038. Therefore, the 0.003 value given by ACI-318 code for ultimate strain, is not conservative and valid for the combined load cases with significant values of axial force (i.e. for the axial forces heavier than 70% of the ultimate axial force).
The domain structures of annealed (001)-oriented $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-x%PbTiO_3$ (PMN-x%PT) crystals for x = 10, 20, 30, 35, and 40 at% were investigated by Polarized Optical Microscopy (POM) and Scanning Force Microscopy (SFM) in the piezoresponse mode. Both Polar Nano-Domains (PND) and long strip-like domains were clearly observed. The results also showed how the domain structure changed between phases with an increasing x in the PMN-x%PT crystals and the domain hierarchy on various length scales ranging from 40 nm to 0.1 mm. Distorted pseudo-cubic phase (x < 20%) consisted of PNDs that did not self-assemble into macro-domain plates. The rhombohedral phase (x = 30%) consisted of PNDs that began to self-assemble into colonies along preferred {110} planes. The monoclinic phase (x = 35%) consisted of miniature polar domains on the nm scale, whereas, the tetragonal phase (x = 40%) consisted of {001} oriented lamella domains on the mm scale that had internal nano-scale heterogeneities, which self-assembled into macro-domain plates oriented along {001} the mm scale.

This paper investigates macro- and microscopic fractography performed on fracture specimens from low cycle fatigue (LCF) testings through an Alloy 617 base metal and weldments. The weldment specimens were taken from gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) pad of Alloy 617. The aim of the present study is to investigate the macro- and microscopic aspects of the low cycle fatigue fracture mode and mechanism of Alloy 617 base metal and GTAWed weldment specimens. Fully axial total strain controlled fatigue tests were conducted at room temperature with total strain ranges of 0.6, 0.9, 1.2 and 1.5%. Macroscopic fracture surfaces of Alloy 617 base metal specimens showed a flat type normal to the fatigue loading direction, whereas the GTAWed weldment specimens were of a shear/star type. The fracture surfaces of both the base metal and weldment specimens revealed obvious fatigue striations at the crack propagation regime. In addition, the fatigue crack mechanism of the base metal showed a transgranular normal to fatigue loading direction; however, the GTAWed weldment specimens showed a transgranular at approximately $45^{\circ}$ to the fatigue loading direction.
Macroperforations improve the sound absorption performance of porous materials in acoustic cavities and in waveguides. In an acoustic cavity, enhanced noise reduction is achieved using porous materials having macroperforations. Double porosity materials are obtained by filling these macroperforations with different poroelastic materials having distinct physical properties. The locations of macroperforations in porous layers can be chosen based on cavity mode shapes. In this paper, the effect of variation of macroporosity and double porosity in porous materials on noise reduction in an acoustic cavity is presented. This analysis is done keeping each perforation size constant. Macroporosity of a porous material is the fraction of area covered by macro holes over the entire porous layer. The number of macroperforations decides macroporosity value. The system under investigation is an acoustic cavity having a layer of poroelastic material rigidly attached on one side and excited by an internal point source. The overall sound pressure level (SPL) inside the cavity coupled with porous layer is calculated using mixed displacement-pressure finite element formulation based on Biot-Allard theory. A 32 node, cubic polynomial brick element is used for discretization of both the cavity and the porous layer. The overall SPL in the cavity lined with porous layer is calculated for various macroporosities ranging from 0.05 to 0.4. The results show that variation in macroporosity of the porous layer affects the overall SPL inside the cavity. This variation in macroporosity is based on the cavity mode shapes. The optimum range of macroporosities in poroelastic layer is determined from this analysis. Next, SPL is calculated considering periodic and nodal line based optimum macroporosity. The corresponding results show that locations of macroperforations based on mode shapes of the acoustic cavity yield better noise reduction compared to those based on nodal lines or periodic macroperforations in poroelastic material layer. Finally, the effectiveness of double porosity materials in terms of overall sound pressure level, compared to equivolume double layer poroelastic materials is investigated; for this the double porosity material is obtained by filling the macroperforations based on mode shapes of the acoustic cavity.

This study aimed to understand the internal flow characteristics of a liquid droplet subject to periodic forced vibration. In order to predict the resonance frequency of a droplet, a high-speed camera and macro lens were used to capture internal flow characteristics of a droplet placed on a vibrating hydrophobic surface. Results showed that the droplet assumed a variety of shapes depending on the resonance mode of free droplet, particularly in modes 2, 4, 6, and 8. In addition, the induced internal vortex flow inside the droplet was also observed in each mode. Typically, the induced flow moved upwards along the axis of symmetry and downwards along the surface of the droplet, that is, from the apex to the contact line in modes 2 and 4, after which it broke into a smaller vortex. On the other hand, the large-scale vortex always remained steady in modes 6 and 8. The speed of the flow in mode 4 was always greater than that in mode 2, but those in modes 6 and 8 were similar.

This paper is concerned with the active vibration control experiment on cylindrical shell equipped with Macro Fiber Composite(MFC) actuators. The MFC actuators were glued to the cylindrical shell in circumferential directions. To verify the theoretical result, vibration test using impact hammer and accelerometer was carried out. It was found from experiments that theoretical result predicts experimental result to some extent. The positive position feedback controllers were designed and applied to the test article. It was observed that the resonant amplitude of the fundamental mode was reduced by 20dB thus achieving active vibration control. The active vibration control of the response subject to non resonant excitation has been of interest. We developed the combination of the positive position feedback controller which can cope with the fundamental mode and the positive position feedback controller which can counteract the external disturbance with non resonant frequency. It was found from experiments that the hybrid controller can suppress the vibration amplitude successfully.

This paper investigates the traffic offloading over unlicensed bands for two-tier multi-mode small cell networks. We formulate this problem as a Stackelberg game and apply a hierarchical learning framework to jointly maximize the utilities of both macro base station (MBS) and small base stations (SBSs). During the learning process, the MBS behaves as a leader and the SBSs are followers. A pricing mechanism is adopt by MBS and the price information is broadcasted to all SBSs by MBS firstly, then each SBS competes with other SBSs and takes its best response strategies to appropriately allocate the traffic load in licensed and unlicensed band in the sequel, taking the traffic flow payment charged by MBS into consideration. Then, we present a hierarchical Q-learning algorithm (HQL) to discover the Stackelberg equilibrium. Additionally, if some extra information can be obtained via feedback, we propose an improved hierarchical Q-learning algorithm (IHQL) to speed up the SBSs' learning process. Last but not the least, the convergence performance of the proposed two algorithms is analyzed. Numerical experiments are presented to validate the proposed schemes and show the effectiveness.
Due to the underground openings, the tangentially concentrated stress of the tunnel remains larger at excavation boundary and decreases toward the interior of the surrounding rock with a certain gradient. In order to study the effect of different gradient stress on rockburst, the true-triaxial gradient and hydraulic-pneumatic combined test apparatus were carried out to simulate the rockburst processes. Under the different gradient stress conditions, the rock-like specimen (gypsum) was tested independently through three principal stress directions loading--fast unloading of single surface--top gradient and hydraulic-pneumatic combined loading, which systematically analyzed the macro-mesoscopic damage phenomena, force characteristics and acoustic emission (AE) signals of the specimen during rockburst. The experimental results indicated that the rockburst test under the gradient and hydraulic-pneumatic combined loading conditions could perfectly reflect the rockburst processes and their stress characteristics; Relatively high stress loading could cause specimen failure, but could not determine its mode. The rockburst under the action of gradient stress suggested that the failure mode of specimen mainly depended on the stress gradient. When the stress gradient was lower, progressive and static spalling failure occured and the rockburst grades were relatively slight. On the other hand, shear fractures occurred in rockbursts accounted for increasingly large proportion as the stress gradient increased and the rockburst occurred more intensely and suddenly, the progressive failure process became unconspicuous, and the rockburst grades were moderate or even stronger.
This article describes recent work on mechanics of carbon nanotubes, one of the most fundamental and amazing man-made nanostructures. The noteworthy point is that "nano"-scale mechanics of carbon nanotubes can be well described by the continuum elastic theories for "macro"-scale thin shells. This provides an efficient means to elucidate mechanical deformation effects of carbon nanotubes on their physical and chemical properties, which is significant to develop new-generation nanomaterials based on nanotubes and their composites. Potential applications of the mechanical deformation of nanotubes in nano-electronics and nano-biology are also commented. In addition, theoretical investigations regarding external pressure buckling is carried out here and we have numerically confirmed that larger N (the number of layers) and a smaller D (the innermost diameter) make "corrugation modes" with a larger mode-index k be energetically favored.
