Auto-guiding Performance from IGRINS Test Observations (Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrograph)

  • In astronomical spectroscopy, stable auto-guiding and accurate target centering capabilities are critical to increase the achievement of high observation efficiency and sensitivity. We developed an instrument control software for the Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrograph (IGRINS), a high spectral resolution near-infrared slit spectrograph with (R=40,000). IGRINS is currently installed on the McDonald 2.7 m telescope in Texas, USA. We had successful commissioning observations in March, May, and July of 2014. The role of the IGRINS slit-viewing camera (SVC) is to move the target onto the slit, and to provide feedback about the tracking offsets for the auto-guiding. For a point source, we guide the telescope with the target on the slit. While for an extended source, we use another a guide star in the field offset from the slit. Since the slit blocks the center of the point spread function, it is challenging to fit the Gaussian function to guide and center the target on slit. We developed several center finding algorithms, e.g., 2D-Gaussian Fitting, 1D-Gaussian Fitting, and Center Balancing methods. In this presentation, we show the results of auto-guiding performances with these algorithms.

Three-Dimensional Structure of Star-Forming Regions in NGC 6822 Hubble V

  • NGC 6822 is a dwarf irregular galaxy in the Local Group and it is located in 500 kpc, further than the Large Magellanic Cloud and the Small Magellanic Cloud. Therefore, we can study star-forming processes by local condition in NGC 6822 instead of tidal force of the Galactic gravitational field. Hubble V is the brightest of several H II complexes in this galaxy. We observed Hubble V by using IGRINS attached on the 2.7 m telescope at the McDonald Observatory in Texas, US in May 2016. We performed a spectral mapping of $15^{{\prime}{\prime}}{\times} 7^{{\prime}{\prime}}$area on H and K bands, and detected emission lines of bright $Br{\gamma}\;{\lambda}2.1661{\mu}m$ and weak He I ${\lambda}2.0587{\mu}m$. Molecular hydrogen lines of 1-0S(1) ${\lambda}2.1218{\mu}m$, 2-1 S(1) ${\lambda}2.2477{\mu}m$, and 1-0 S(0) ${\lambda}2.2227{\mu}m$ was also detected. These emission lines show the structure of an ionized core and excited surface of clouds by far-ultraviolet photons, photodissociation region (PDR). We present three-dimensional maps of emission line distributions through multi slit scanning data and compare these results with the previous study. This presentation shows the physical structure of the star-forming regions and we discuss a PDR model and an evolution of Hubble V complex.

Antifungal Activity of the Methanol Extract of Myristica malabarica Fruit Rinds and the Active Ingredients Malabaricones Against Phytopathogenic Fungi

  • In a search for plant extracts with in vivo antifungal activity for plant diseases, we found that the methanol extract of Myristica malabarica fruit rinds effectively suppressed the development of several plant diseases. The methanol extract exhibited potent 1-day protective activity against rice blast, tomato late blight, wheat leaf rust and red pepper anthracnose. It also showed 7-day and 4-day protective activities against the plant diseases. Three antifungal resorcinols were isolated from the methanol extract of M. malabarica fruit rinds and identified as malabaricones A(MA), B(MB), and C(MC). Inhibitory activity of the three resorcinols against mycelial growth of plant pathogenic fungi varied according to compound and target species. All three compounds effectively reduced the development of rice blast, wheat leaf rust and red pepper anthracnose. In addition, MC was highly active for reducing the development of tomato late blight. This is the first report on the antifungal activities of malabaricones against filamentous fungi.

셰익스피어의 史劇作品에 나타난 服飾役割의 分析 (The Analysis of Costume Role in Shakespeare`s History Plays)

  • This study concerns the role of costume in Shakespeare\`s history plays from the viewpoint of the role theory. The term “role” has been used to represent the behavior expected of the occupant of a given position or status. A specific role can not be successfully performed without the aid of the costumes. Costumes are adopted in relation with a specific role. The term ‘role’ had been borrowed from the drama. The similarity between the role on the stage and the role of the social man had been recognized. The similarity between the role on the stage and the role of the social man had been recognized. The typical examples in which the costume help to make access to a specific role and can be effectively exploited for the performance of the role are manifested in the history plays of Shakespeare. Thus, our goal in this study is to analyze the role of costume which appears in Shakespeare\`s history plays from the viewpoint of the role theory. The role of social status and position reflects sex, age, occupation, class, economic position of the characters. In his works, the crown and the mace represented not only the throne but also a previllege and supreme position. The situation role of costume could be widely used for visualizing the psychological situation and external environments of the characters on the stage. The disguise role hided one\`s status, thereby makes possible acting other\`s position. The costume also could symbolize the social status, position, rank, occupation, and the situation, and functioned as a media fo delivering messages to others. The costume performed the role of the physical and psychic protection, and provided its wearer with consolation and peaceful mind. The costume reflected the custom of a society through its wearing configuration. The costume (or a uniform) adopted by a group notified the characteristics and the expectation of action of the group to others. The results obtained from this study can provide useful cues for understanding the role action in the social structure. This kind of understanding reveals the costume phenomena in real life, allows one to perform roles properly and efficiently, and opens our insight on the overall aspects of the costume culture.

3-D Shock Structure of Orion KL Outflow with IGRINS

  • We present the results of high-resolution near-IR spectral mapping toward the Orion KL outflow. In this study, we used the Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrometer (IGRINS) on the 2.7 m Harlan J. Smith Telescope at McDonald Observatory. IGRINS's large wavelength coverage over the H & K bands and high spectral resolving power (R ~ 45,000) allowed us to detect over 35 shock-excited ro-vibrational H2 transitions and to measure directly the gas temperature and velocity of the dense outflows. In our previous study toward the H2 peak 1 region in the Orion KL outflow, we identified 31 outflow fingers from a datacube of the H2 1-0 S(1) $2.122{\mu}m$ line and constructed a three-dimensional map of the fingers. The internal extinction (${\Delta}AV$ > 10 mag) and overall angular spread of the flow argue for an ambient medium with a high density (105 cm-3). In this presentation, we show preliminary results of additional mapping toward a remarkable chain of bows (HH 205 - HH 207) farther from the ejection center, and obtain a more clear view of the shock physics of a single isolated bullet that improves on the knowledge gained from observations of the more complex peak 1 region in our earlier study.

High-resolution optical and near-infrared spectroscopic study of 2MASS J06593158-0405277

  • We present the results of high-resolution (R ≥ 30,000) optical and near-infrared spectroscopic monitoring observations of a FU Orionis-type object, 2MASS J06593158-0405277. We have monitored 2MASS J06593158-0405277 with the Bohyunsan Optical Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) and the Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrograph (IGRINS) since December 2014. Various features produced by wind, disk, and outflow/jet were detected. The wind features varied over time and disappeared about a year after the outburst occurred. The double-peaked line profiles were detected in the optical and near-infrared, and the line widths decrease with increasing wavelength. The disk features in the optical spectra are fit well with G2-type or G5-type stellar spectra convolved with a disk rotational profile of about 45 km s-1, which corresponds to a disk radius of about 71 Rfor a central mass of 0.75 M. Disk features in near-infrared spectra are fit well with a K1-type stellar spectrum convolved with a disk rotational profile of about 35 km s-1, which corresponds to a disk radius of about 117 R for a central mass of 0.75 M. We also detected [S II] and H2 emission lines, which are rarely found in FUors but are usually found in the earlier stage of young stellar objects. Therefore, we suggest that 2MASS J06593158-0405277 is in the relatively earlier part of Class II stage.

  • Recently, research on experimental and analytical techniques utilizing microfluidic devices has been pursued. For example, lab-on-a-chip devices that integrate micro-devices onto a single chip for processing small sample quantities have gained significant attention. However, during sample preparation, unnecessary gases can be introduced into the internal channels, thus, impeding device flow and compromising specific function efficiency, including that of analysis and separation. Several methods have been proposed to mitigate this issue, however, many involve cumbersome procedures or suffer from complexities owing to intricate structures. Recently, some approaches have been introduced that utilize hydrophobic device structures to remove gases within channels. In such cases, the permeability of gases passing through the structure becomes a crucial performance factor. In this study, a method involving the deposition and sintering of diluted Ag-ink onto a silicon wafer surface is presented. This is followed by unstructured nano-pattern creation using a Metal Assisted Chemical Etching (MACE) process, which yields a nanostructured surface with unstructured pillar shapes. Subsequently, gas permeability in the spaces formed by these surface structures is investigated. This is achieved by experiments conducted to incorporate a pressure chamber and measure gas permeability. Trends are subsequently analyzed by comparing the results with existing theories. Finally, it can be confirmed that the significance of this study primarily lies in its capability to effectively evaluate gas permeability through unstructured pillar-like nanostructures, thus, providing quantitative values for the appropriate driving pressure and expected gas removal time in practical device operation.

급성 심근경색증 환자에서 일차적 관상동맥 중재술 후 장기적 임상 경과-65세를 기준으로 (Long-term Clinical Outcomes after Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction-on the basis of 65 Years)

  • 본 연구는 일차적인 경피적 관상동맥 중재술(percutaneous coronary intervention, PCI)를 시술 받은 65세 이상의 고령 환자들에서 임상적 특성, 관상동맥 병변 및 중재술의 특성, 병원 내 및 1년 사망률과 주요심장사건(major adverse cardiac events, MACE)의 발생에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 2006년 1월 1일부터 2010년 12월 30일까지 모 대학병원 심혈관센터에서 급성 심근경색증으로 진단받고 흉통 발생 12시간 이내 관상동맥 조영술 및 일차적 PCI를 시행 받은 환자 1,974예를 대상으로 하였고, 65세 이상의 I군(1,018예, 연령 $73.8{\pm}5.99$세, 남자 : 여자 = 574 : 821)과 65세 이하의 II군(956예, 연령 $52.8{\pm}7.96$세, 남자 : 여자 = 444 : 135)으로 나누어 분석하였다. 심혈관질환의 위험인자는 I군에서 더 높았고, 흡연력, 고지혈증, 가족력은 II군에서 높았다. PCI 표적 병변은 I군에서 좌주관지(2.7 vs. 1.6%, p=0.007)가 유의하게 많았으며, 다혈관병변(54.5 vs. 41.0%, p<0.001)도 I군에서 많았다. 병원 내 사망(8.4 vs. 1.9%)과 MACE(20.1 vs. 14.0%)는 I군에서 많이 관찰되었다(p<0.001). 로지스틱 다중회귀분석 결과 65세 이상 고령 환자에서 1년 사망률에 영향을 미치는 독립적인 인자는 내원 시 혈중 creatinine 1.3 mg/dL 이상, 뇌혈관 질환, 수축기 혈압<100 mmHg, Killip class II 이상, 다혈관 질환, 그리고 좌심실 구혈률 <40%로 나타났다.

소아 특발성 혈소판 감소증에서 항-HLA Class I항체의 임상적 의미 (Clinical Significance of Antibodies Against Platelet HLA Class I in Children with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura)

  • 배경: 수혈의 기왕력이 항HLA항체의 형성과 연관이 있다는 사실은 잘 알려져 있다. 하지만, 특발성 혈소판 감소성 자반증의 주 표적은 혈소판의 당단백이며, 당단백 항체와 항 HLA class I 항체의 형성기전은 완전히 다른 것이다. 이번 연구의 목적은 특발성 혈소판 감소성 자반증 환아의 항HLA class I 항체의 임상적 의미를 찾아 보고자 함에 있다. 방법: 1990년부터 2010년까지 경상대학교병원을 방문한 48명의 대조군과 48명의 특발성 혈소판감소성자반증 환아들을 대상으로 하였다. 각각의 환자들의 혈청을 Modified Antigen Capture Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (MACE) kit를 이용하여 항 당단백 항체와 항 HLA class I 항체를 검사하였다. 결과: 두 그룹간의 항 HLA class I항체의 양성률은 의미 있는 차이를 보였으며[36/39 (92.3%) vs 29/46 (63.0%)][혈소판감소성자반증 환자군 vs 정상대조군] (P=0.002), 항HLA class I 평균항체 S/C ratio 또한 의미 있는 차이를 보였다(3.55 vs 1.51) [혈소판감소성자반증 환자군 vs 정상대조군] (P=0.0000). 하지만 혈소판 감소성 자반증 환자군에서 수혈을 받은 환자들과 수혈을 받지 않은 환자들 간의 항HLA항체 양성률은 의미 있는 차이를 보이지 않았으며[12/12 (100%) vs 24/27 (88%)][수혈을 받은 환자군 vs 비수혈 환자군](P=0.22), 평균 항체 S/C ratio 또한 통계적으로 의미 있는 차이를 보이지 않았다(4.30 vs 3.25)[수혈을 받은 환자군 vs 비수혈 환자군](P=0.22). 수혈 이후에 추적검사를 위해 채혈을 했던 환아들의 샘플을 이용한 항체 양성률 및 항체가 검사에서도 의미 있는 차이는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 항 HLA class I 항체는 혈소판 감소성 자반증과 연관이 있을 수 있으나, 수혈은 혈소판 감소성 자반증 환아의 임상적 경과에 영향을 미치지 못한다.
