This paper describes the relationship between skin impedance signal, behavioral signal, and subjective evaluation depending on arousal level. Nz and reaction time had similar trend with mKSS level, but eyeblink rate was different from these two parameters. eye-blink rate increased slowly from mKSS level 1 to 5, and had high increasing rate at mKSS 7. But it showed steep descent at mKSS level 9. Each subject showed different eye-blink rates, but changing rates of EBR was similar at eachm KSS level. Therefore it suggests that rising rate of EBR can be used arousal level criterion. From the result of reaction time test. human performance was decreased rapidly above the mKSS level 5, and false positive and false negative data was observed above the mKSS level 3. It is desirable to give a subject some stimuli such as sound or aroma to rise arousal level between mKSS level 3 and mKSS level 5.
In this paper, we proposed the compensation method to evaluate arousal level in different initial arousal states. Arousal level was measured by the relationship between IRI and Nz. Since Nz is affected by BI which is directly proportional to initial arousal state of subjects, the arousal level is underestimated To overcome this problem, we proposed the compensation method using modified Karolinska sleepiness scale, and determined compensation coefficients derived from this scale with five arousal levels. Applying these coefficients to portable arousal monitoring system, the proposed method in this paper could be useful for real-time evaluation and control of arousal level. As a result the developed system can detect and control the arousal state from initial drowsing sate.
A Saccharomyces cerevisiae Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase, PTP1, was expressed from an Escherichia coli expression system and milligram quantities of active PTP1 were purified chromatographically. The substrate specificity of the recombinant PTP1 was probed using synthetic phosphotyrosine-containing peptides corresponding to the regulatory phosphorylation sites of the yeast MAP kinase homologues $Fus3_{176-186}$, $Kss1_{179-189}$, and $Hog1_{170-180}$. Peptide sequences derived from the MAP kinase homologues were chosen arbitrarily as starting points for sequence variation studies even though they are not likely to be candidates for physiological substrates of PTP1. Phosphotyrosyl-$Hog1_{170-180}$ peptide showed a $K_M$ value of 877 ${\mu}M$ and phosphorylated $Kss1_{179-189}$ and $Fus3_{176-186}$ peptides showed lower $K_M$ values of 74 ${\mu}M$ and 51 ${\mu}M$ each. To study the effect of sequence variations of the peptide, amino acids of the undecapeptide $Hog1_{170-180}$ (DPQMTGpYVSTR) were sequentially substituted by an alanine residue. More extensive variations of each amino acid revealed positional importance of each amino acid residue. Based on these results, we derived a peptide sequence (DADEpYDA) that is recognized by PTP1 with an affinity ($K_M$ is 4 ${\mu}M$) significantly higher than that of the peptides derived from the phosphorylation sites of Fus3, Kss1, and Hog1.
Tolerant corn cultivars to bentazon were selected and tolerance mechanism of corn cultivars to bentazon was studied by determining bentazon 6-hydroxylase(B6H) activity which was known to detoxify bentazon to 6-hydroxy bentazon at induced enzyme conditions with treatments of 1,8-naphthalic anhydride, ethanol and phenobarbital. Tolerant cultivars to bentazon were selected by growth response of corn by foliar application of bentazon to corn cultivars. Kwanganok, GA 209, IK 2, DB 544, and Suwon 19 were tolerant to bentazon, but KSS 3, KSS 4, KS 5, and Danok 2 were susceptible. Pretreating corn seeds with 1,8-naphthalic anhydride increased B6H activity at all cultivars, but the tendencies were more remarkable at Suwon 19 and GA 209, tolerant cultivars, than at Danok 2 and KS 5, susceptible cultivars. Treating corn shoots with ethanol increased B6H activity at Suwon 19 and GA 209. B6H activity was enhanced by treatments of ethanol at 1.0 or 2.5%, but decreased at ethanol 2.5 or 5.0% at Danok 2 and KS 5. Treating corn shoots with phenobarbital increased B6H activity at Suwon 19, GA 209, Danok 2, and KS 5 by treatments of phenobarbital at 2.0mM, but decreased at 4.0 or 8.0mM at all cultivars. Therefore, the tolerant mechanism of corn cultivars to bentazon may be explained partially by the activity of bentazon 6-hydroxylase which detoxifies bentazon to 6-hydroxy bentazon.
This paper studies the arousal effects of aroma and warning sound using EDA(Electrodermal Activity:EDA), Aroma stimulus started at Nz value over 1.2. Warning sound was prepared according to the arousal evaluation and control criteria. As a result, the warning sound could be controlled the arousal level in all the mKSS state. Aroma stimulus was able to prevent drowsy more than warning sound in the mKSS 3 state(the first stage of drowsiness). Therefor, aroma stimulus was can be used for arousal control at that state. Futhermore, arousal control was shown to be more effective with presentation of both aroma and warning sounds than each presentation.

This study aimed to isolate wild yeasts from seawaters and soils samples of the Haeundae and Mongdol beaches on the southern coast of Korea, and to characterize these unrecorded wild yeast strains. In total, 41 strains, representing 37 different species of wild yeast were isolated from 70 samples collected from the beaches. Among these, 14 strains were isolated from the alkalophilic medium of yeast extract-peptone-dextrose (YPD) medium (pH 9.0), and 27 strains were isolated concurrently on general YPD medium (pH 6.5). Among the 41 isolated wild yeast strains, Candida insectorum HUD 16-3(JSL-KSS-002) and Metschnikowia citriensis HUD 12-5(JSL-KSS-001) had not previously been recorded. We investigated the microbiological characteristics of these two unrecorded yeast strains and three other strains-, Cystobasidium lysinophilum JSC 52-2(JSL-GGU-019), Candida takata NMD 11-1(JSL-GGU-017) and Candida panamensis ASG 58M-2(JSL-GGU-018) from Jangseoncheon in Jellabuk-do and Jangtaesan in Deajeon city. All five previously unrecorded yeasts were oval and did not form spores. All strains grew well in YPD and yeast extract-malt extract media in a vitamin-free medium. Two strains, including C. insectorum HUD 16-3(JSL-KSS-002) grew well in a 15% NaCl-containing YPD medium. Three strains, including Cys. lysinophilum JSC52-2(JSL-GGU-019) assimilated lactose, and all strains assimilated starch.
Satellite-based fog detection algorithms are being developed to detect fog in real-time over a wide area, with a focus on the Korean Peninsula (KorPen). The GEO-KOMPSAT-2A/Advanced Meteorological Imager (GK2A/AMI, GK2A) satellite offers an excellent temporal resolution (10 min) and a spatial resolution (500 m), while GEO-KOMPSAT-2B/Geostationary Ocean Color Imager-II (GK2B/GOCI-II, GK2B) provides an excellent spatial resolution (250 m) but poor temporal resolution (1 h) with only visible channels. To enhance the fog detection level (10 min, 250 m), we developed a fused GK2AB fog detection algorithm (FDA) of GK2A and GK2B. The GK2AB FDA comprises three main steps. First, the Korea Meteorological Satellite Center's GK2A daytime fog detection algorithm is utilized to detect fog, considering various optical and physical characteristics. In the second step, GK2B data is extrapolated to 10-min intervals by matching GK2A pixels based on the closest time and location when GK2B observes the KorPen. For reflectance, GK2B normalized visible (NVIS) is corrected using GK2A NVIS of the same time, considering the difference in wavelength range and observation geometry. GK2B NVIS is extrapolated at 10-min intervals using the 10-min changes in GK2A NVIS. In the final step, the extrapolated GK2B NVIS, solar zenith angle, and outputs of GK2A FDA are utilized as input data for machine learning (decision tree) to develop the GK2AB FDA, which detects fog at a resolution of 250 m and a 10-min interval based on geographical locations. Six and four cases were used for the training and validation of GK2AB FDA, respectively. Quantitative verification of GK2AB FDA utilized ground observation data on visibility, wind speed, and relative humidity. Compared to GK2A FDA, GK2AB FDA exhibited a fourfold increase in spatial resolution, resulting in more detailed discrimination between fog and non-fog pixels. In general, irrespective of the validation method, the probability of detection (POD) and the Hanssen-Kuiper Skill score (KSS) are high or similar, indicating that it better detects previously undetected fog pixels. However, GK2AB FDA, compared to GK2A FDA, tends to over-detect fog with a higher false alarm ratio and bias.
This study aimed to isolate wild yeasts from water and soil sample of the Nonsan stream and Sapgyoho (lake) in Chungcheonnam-do, Korea, and to further characterize previously unrecorded wild yeast strains. In total, 102 strains, representing 55 different species of wild yeast were isolated from 95 samples collected from the Jangseoncheon and Ipchoncheon of Nonsan stream in Jellabuk-do and Chungcheonnam-do. Among these, 33 strains were isolated from alkalophilic yeast extract-peptone-dextrose (YPD) medium (pH 9.0), and 9 strains were isolated concurrently on general YPD medium (pH 6.5) and alkalophilic medium. Seventeen strains of Cryptococcus laurentii were predominantly isolated. Additionally, 65 strains, representing 27 different species of wild yeast were isolated from 58 samples obtained from Sapgyoho (lake). Among the 82 isolated wild yeast strains, 8 strains, including Candida fructus JSC 72-1(JSL-GGU 015), had not previously been recorded. All 8 previously unrecorded yeasts were oval in shape except C. fructus JSC72-1(JSL-GGU-015), and only the Filobasidium chernovii JSC39-1(JSL-GGU-013) strain formed spores. All strains except Pseudosydowia eucalypti JSC23-6(JSL-GGU-012) grew well in yeast extract-peptone-dextrose (YPD) and yeast extract-malt extract media and grew in vitamin-free medium. Four strains, including P.eucalypti JSC23-6(JSL-GGU-012) grew well in 15% NaCl-containing YPD medium. F.chernovii JSC39-1(JSL-GGU-013) and Sirobasidium intermedium JSC7-3(JSL-GGU-014) assimilated lactose, and five strains, including F. chernovii JSC39-1(JSL-GGU-013) also assimilated starch. All strains were resistant to 800 ppm of Ca, Cu, Li, and Mg ions.

Nitrate dry deposition fluxes were directly measured using knife-leading-edge surrogate surface (KSS) covered with greased strips and a water surface sampler (WSS). The average gaseous flux ($8.3mg/m^2/day$) was much higher than the average particulate one ($3.0mg/m^2/day$). The best fit gas phase mass transfer coefficient (MTC) of $HNO_3$ was obtained by linear regression analysis between measured gaseous flux containing nitrogen compounds and measured ambient $HNO_3$ concentration. The result showed that the MTCs of $HNO_3$ were approximately two times higher than those of $SO_2$. Especially, during the ozone action day, measured gaseous fluxes containing nitrogen compounds were much higher than those ones calculated as the product of measured ambient $HNO_3$ concentration and gas phase MTC of $HNO_3$, which is calculated from MTC of $SO_2$ using Graham's diffusion law. This result indicated that other nitrogen compounds except $HNO_3$ contributed to gaseous flux containing nitrogen compounds into the water surface sampler. The theoretical calculations suggest the contributions of nitrous acid ($HNO_2$) and PAN to the gaseous dry deposition flux of nitrogen containing compounds to the WSS.
