  • In the last meeting of KAS, we reported the first statistical study of Faraday rotation measure (RM) in the large-scale structure of the universe using the data of cosmological structure formation simulations. With a turbulence dynamo model for the intergalactic magnetic field (IGMF), we predicted that the root mean square of RM through filaments is \sim 1 rad/m^2. Future radio observatories such as the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) could detect this signal level. However, it is known that the typical foreground galactic RM is a few tens and less than ten rad/m^2 in the low and high galactic latitudes, respectively. So the RM in the large-scale structure could be detected only after the foreground galactic RM is removed. In this talk, we show how we remove the foreground galactic RM and what we obtain from the masked data, by using some noise models and masking techniques. Our results can be used to simulate future RM observations by SKA, and eventually to constrain the origin and evolution of the IGMF in the large-scale structure.

  • In this study, micro tools(WC) to produce micro-structure and parts, were fabricated ell a cylindrical grinding machine using ELID(Electrolytic In-process Dressing) technique. The shape of the micro-carbide tool was square, corn. The size of the micro-carbide tool was measured less than 10$\mu\textrm{m}$ respectively by SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope). Furthermore, we fabricated micro structure by different processing methods on the desk top cylindrical grinding machine. The manufactured shape was like a tower and the measurement showed that the endpoint of micro structure was $50{\times}50$$\mu{\textrm}{m}$.

  • Let M be a real hypersurface of a complex space form with almost contact metric structure (${\phi}$, ${\xi}$, ${\eta}$, g). In this paper, we prove that if the structure Jacobi operator $R_{\xi}= R({\cdot},{\xi}){\xi}$ is ${\phi}{\nabla}_{\xi}{\xi}$-parallel and $R_{\xi}$ commute with the structure tensor ${\phi}$, then M is a homogeneous real hypersurface of Type A provided that $TrR_{\xi}$ is constant.

  • Natural gas hydrate typically contains 85 wt.% water and 15 wt.% natural gas, and commonly belongs to cubic structure I and II. Also, 1m$^3$ hydrate of natural gas can be decomposed to 200 m$^3$ natural gas at standard condition. If this characteristic of hydrate is reversely utilized, natural gas is fixed into water and produced to hydrate. Therefore the hydrate is great as a means to transport and store natural gas. So, the tests were performed on the formation of natural gas hydrate is governed by the pressure, temperature, gas composition etc. The results show that the equilibrium pressure of structure II is approximately 65% lower and the solubility is about 3 times higher than structure I. Also if the subcoolings of structure I and structure II are more than 9 K and 11 K respectively, the hydrates are rapidly formed.

  • This paper presents a fully three-dimensional numerical approach for analyzing deepwater drilling riser-conductor system vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) including nonlinear soil-structure interactions (SSI). The drilling riser-conductor system is modeled as a tensioned beam with linearly distributed tension and is solved by a fully implicit discretization scheme. The fluid field around the riser-conductor system is obtained by Finite-Analytic Navier-Stokes (FANS) code, which numerically solves the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations. The SSI is considered by modeling the lateral soil resistance force according to nonlinear p-y curves. Overset grid method is adopted to mesh the fluid domain. A partitioned fluid-structure interaction (FSI) method is achieved by communication between the fluid solver and riser motion solver. A riser-conductor system VIV simulation without SSI is firstly presented and served as a benchmark case for the subsequent simulations. Two SSI models based on a nonlinear p-y curve are then applied to the VIV simulations. Also, the effects of two key soil properties on the VIV simulations of riser-conductor systems are studied.

  • The purpose of this study was to propose the change of green area and green structure according to the change of the Floor Area Ratio(FAR) of apartment complex. The survey site was selected two each of apartment complex after due consider three type that is, the FAR below 100%, the FAR below 250% and the FAR over 250%. Green rate is 40.23~44.23%, green width is 3~15m, green volume is 1.06~1.71㎥/$m^2$, planting density of cannopy layer is 0.04~0.06tree/$m^2$, planting density of understory layer is 0.06~0.20tree/$m^2$ in case of Hwagok 2nd Jugong apartment(FAR 99%) and Gaepo Jugong apartment(FAR 73%) constructed in the 1970~1980. Green rate is 24.16~26.16%, green width is 3~7m, green volume is 0.84~1.54㎥/$m^2$, planting density of cannopy layer is 0.18~0.31tree/$m^2$, planting density of understory layer is 0.15~0.35tree/$m^2$ in case of Deungchon Jugong aparment(FAR 226%) and Gaehwa apartment(FAR240%) construsted in the mid-1990's. Green rate is 23.47~25.53%, green width is 2~6m, green volume is 1.06~2.12㎥/$m^2$, planting density of cannopy layer is 0.25tree/$m^2$, planting density of understory layer is 0.22~0.37tree/$m^2$ in case of Hanbo Guam apartment(FAR 269%) and Donga 3rd apartment(FAR 376%) constructed in the last-1990's. As the results of analysis of green structure according to changes of the Floor Area Ratio(FAR), the greater the FAR, the higher the rate of green area. The green volume and planted density is low without the change of the FAR and planted structure was simple-layer structure composed of alien woody species.

  • Recently, construction techniques have been rapidly developed with reconstruction of old buildings, urban regeneration and efforts of restoring natural ecology, so demolition of deteriorated buildings has been rapidly increasing. Demolition work of building should be executed without damaging surrounding environments according to relevant regulations. There are various demolition methods and among them, explosives demolition is the most practical way for expenses and safety of work. As a part of Daejeon stream ecological restoration project, this thesis is a case of executing demolition of Chung-Ang Department Store which was built 35 years ago as covered structure on the upper part of Daejeon stream with explosives demolition. This structure is 8 stories high, total height of 41.6 m including basement floor, $1,650m^2$ for building area and $18,351m^2$ for total floor area. It is located in the center of Daejeon city where shopping centers and buildings are crowded and main facilities are Daejeon subway (18m), backside shopping center (20m), underground shopping center(15m), Mokchuk bridge, Eunjung bridge(0.25m) and fiber-optic cable(0.25m). In this project, implosion was selected for explosives demolition methods by considering this area being a busy urban area, and this project was executed after examining collapse movement of structure in advance using simulation program not to damage main facilities. Total 80kg of explosives and 1,000 detonators were being used. This project will be a good case of executing explosives demolition successfully by applying implosion on urban area in the country.

  • The sizes and structure of micelles and vesicles formed in ammonium dodecyl sulfate (ADS)/octadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (OTAC) mixed aqueous solutions were analyzed by small-angle neutron scattering. In micellar regions of pure ADS and OTAC aqueous solution, the spherical micelles were formed at given concentrations and their sizes were 40 and $61{\AA}$, respectively. The structure transition of pure micelles occurred above 300 mM due to the constancy of the intermicellar distance above 250 mM. The coexisting region of mixed micelles and vesicles in phase diagram of mixed system was also assured. It was investigated that vesicle formed spontaneously took a bilayer structure. The lamellar thickness of vesicles decreased with increasing concentration of vesicle samples. However, the size could not be determined for mixed micelle and vesicle above 100 nm due to limitation of low q ranges. Finally, The 9 mM solution of ADS mole fraction 0.9 (${\alpha}$=0.9) showed bilayer structure compared to phase diagram classified into mixed micelle.
