Comparison of Hydrolysis from In Vitro Digestion Using Symmetric and Asymmetric Triacylglycerol Compounds by Enzymatic Interesterification (효소적으로 합성된 대칭형과 비대칭형 Triacylglycerol 혼합물의 In Vitro Digestion에서의 소화율 비교)

  • For developing indigestible lipids, symmetric triacylglycerol (ST) and asymmetric triacylglycerol (AT) were produced by enzymatic interesterification using high oleic sunflower oil, palmitic ethyl ester, and stearic ethyl ester in a shaking water bath. Used enzymes were Lipozyme RMIM for ST and Lipozyme TLIM for AT. To remove ethyl ester from reactants, methanol fractionation (reactant : methanol=1:5, w/v, $25^{\circ}C$) and florisil separation (reactant : florisil=1:8, w/w) were applied. Acetone fractionation (reactant : acetone=1:9, w/v) was implemented to separate triacylglcerol (TAG) species into ST and AT. Fractions I (before fractionation), II (after fractionation, liquid phase) and III (after fractionation, solid phase) were separated from ST, whereas fractions IV (after 1st fractionation, liquid phase) and V (after 2nd fractionation, solid phase) were from AT. From sn-2 fatty acid composition analysis, the sum of palmitic acid (C16:0) and stearic acid (C18:0) was 4.9~6.5 area% in ST (I, II, III), and 41.9~43.9 area% in AT (IV, V). In vitro digestion was performed for 0, 15, 30, 60, and 120 minutes at $37^{\circ}C$ in a shaking water bath. For the digestion results, hydrolysis of V was only 40% compared to others (I, II, III, IV) at 120 minutes due to its melting point ($49^{\circ}C$). However, initially (15 minutes), hydrolysis (%) was as follows: V$32.5^{\circ}C$, $31.8^{\circ}C$) and different slip melting points ($31.3^{\circ}C$, $19.5^{\circ}C$). Even though IV has a lower TAG content composed of two saturated fatty acids than III, it had a similar melting point.

Relevance of Serum Vitamin D and Indices Related To Cardiovascular Disease Among Korean Adults (한국 성인의 혈청 비타민 D 수준과 심혈관 질환 관련 지표와의 관련성)

  • This study investigated the relationship between Vitamin D levels and indices related to cardiovascular disease in Korean adults aged ${\geq}19years$. The data for analysis were obtained from the sixth Korea National Health Nutrition Examination Survey in 2013 and 2014. The results showed that the incidence of Vitamin D deficiency was 73.1% among Korean adults and that indices related to cardiovascular disease showed an increasing trend (55.6% of Korean adults). The relationship between Vitamin D levels and indices related to cardiovascular disease with controlled physical activity status was also studied. The odds ratios (ORs) for age were 1.72 for the 4-62 years age group (95% CI, 1.53-1.93) and 2.05 for the ${\geq}65years$ age group (95% CI, 1.71-2.45). For blood pressure, the OR for pre-hypertension was 1.30 (95% CI, 1.15-1.47) and that for hypertension was 1.31 (95% CI, 1.11-1.54). For body mass index (BMI), the OR was 1.36 (95% CI, 1.11-1.66) and that for waist circumference (WC) was 1.36 (95% CI, 1.11-1.66). For fasting blood sugar (FBS), the OR for impaired fasting glucose (IFG) was 1.37 (95% CI, 1.21-1.55) and that for diabetes mellitus (DM) was 1.31 (95% CI, 1.05-1.65). The OR for total cholesterol (TC) was 1.30 (95% CI, 1.11-1.52) and that for triglycerides (TG) was 1.20 (95% CI, 1.04-1.37) in Korean adults. There was a significant relationship between Vitamin D and indices related to cardiovascular disease in Korean adults with respect to age, blood pressure, FBS, BMI, TC and TG. Confirmation of a causal relationship between Vitamin D and indices related to cardiovascular disease may require further research consisting of more systematic cohort studies.

A Study on the Body Fat Content and Serum Lipids in Collegs Students (대학생의 체지방량과 혈청지질에 관한 연구)

  • 본 조사는 경기도 용인에 위치한 명지대학교의 남녀 대학생 202명의 대상으로 일반 환경과 혈철지질, 혈압, 체지방량 측정 검사를 중심으로 이루어졌으며, 조사 분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 조사 대상자의 신체발달 상황을 보면 남자의 평균 신장과 체중 및 비체중치는 173.1cm, 65.9kg, 38.03이였고, 여자는 16.7cm, 52.4kg, 32.6로 한국인 성인의 표준치와 매우 유사한 수치였다. 체지방량 비율은 남자 16.4, 여자 24.0으로 나타 설별에 따른 차이가 뚜렸하였다. 2, 조사 대상자들의 수축기와 이완기의 혈압은 평균 $125\pm123mmHg,$ $77.2\pm11.1mmHg이고,$ 남자와 여자의 수축기 혈압은 각각 $132.3\pm1.9mmHg,$ $118.1\pm1.6mmhg로$ 정상 범위였다.확장기 혈압은 남녀 각각 $80.5\pm11.0mmHgm$ $73.9\pm102.m,Hg였으며$ 역시 정상범위에 포함되었다. 3. 혈청 지질의 검사 결과는 Tc는 남자 175.2mg/dl, 여자 183.6mg/dl로 나타났고 TG는 남자 108.4mg/dl, 여자 72.0mg/dl로 나타나 통RP적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다. (p<0.05). 또한 HDL-C는 남자 59.6mg/dl , 여자 64.3mg/dl 로 성별에 다른 유의적인 차이를 보였고 (p<0.05), LDL-C도 역시 남자 93.9mg/dl, 여자 104.8mg/dl로 나타나 통계적으로 성별에 다른 차이가 뚜렷하였다. (p<0.01). 조사결과 다른 연령층의 성인과는 달리 TG를 제외한 TC, H이-C, L이-C에 있어서 남자가 여자 보다 더 낮은 수치를 보였다. 4. 혈압에 따라 세 그룹으로 분류한 후 혈청 지질과의 관계를 보면, 수축기 혈아이 증가함에 따라 TC, TG, LDL-C은 증가하는 경향을 보였으며, HDL-C은 감소되었으나 통계적으인 유의성은 없었다. 이완기혈압의 겨우 89mmHg 이하 보다 90~94mmHg의 경우에 유의적으로 증가되었으며 (p<0.05) HDL-C은 감소하였으나 유의성은 없었다. 5. 혈정 지질과 비만도의 관계는 남녀 모두 양의 상관관계를 나타냈으나 여자보다 남자에서 뚜fut이 나타났다. 남자의 겨우 TC의 수치가 KI에 따라 110% 미만일 때 $169.7\pm31.5mg/dl,$ 110~120%일 때 $193.8\pm36.8mg/dl,$ 120% 이상 일 때 $202.2\pm29.3mg/dl로$ 비만도에 따른 유의적인 증가를 (p<0.05)보여주었으나 여자의 경우는 유의적인 차이가 없었다. TG의 수치는 남자의 경우 KI가 110%미만인 그룹은 $102.9\pm108.2mg/dl,$ 120% 이상인 그룹은 $112.2\pm40.0mg/dl로$ 비만도가 증가함에 따라 TG가 증가되었으나 유의적인 차이는 없었으며, 여자의 경우 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 남자의 경우 HDL-C은 비만도가 증가함에 따라 유의적으로 감소하는 경향을 보였으나(p<0.05) 여자의 경우는 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 6. 조사 대상자의 체지방량 측정결과 체기방률은 남자의 겨우 16.4% 여자의 겨우 24.0%로 나타나 여자의 체지방률이 남자보다 높았다. 7. 신체계측치, 혈압, 혈청 지질간의 상관관계를 살펴보면 TC, TG는 KI, BMI와 유의적인 양의 상관관계를 보였고 (p<0.01), HCL-C은 비체중, BMI, LBM, TBM와 유의적인 음의 상관관계를 보였으며, (p<0.01), KI, SBP와도 음의 상관관계를 보였다. (p<0.05), LCL-C는 KI와 유의적이인 양의 상관관계를 나타내었으며 (p<0.01) BF%, TBF, BMI와도 양의 상관관계를 나타냈었다. (p<0.05). 또한 LPH, Al는 모두 나이, 비체중, BMI, KI와 유의적인 양의 상관관계를 나타내었다. (p<0.01). 이상을 종합해 보면 본 조사 대상자들은 비만도가 높아질수록 혈청 지질 수준이 놓았으며, 이완기 혈압도 형철 지질과 상관관계를 나타났다. 대학생의 혈청 지질과 체지방에 대한 자료가 부족함을 고려할 때, 본 조사자료가 학생의 혈청지질의 체지방에 대한 기초 자료로서 이용될 것을 기대하며 보다 다각적인 연구가 이루어지기를 바라는 바이다.

The Prevalent Rates of Abnormal Serum Aminotransferase Levels and Total Cholesterol Levels among Adolescents with Obesity (청소년기 비만아에서 이상 혈청 간효소치 및 총콜레스테롤치의 유병율)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to look at prevalences of abnormal serum aminotransferase levels and abnormal serum total cholesterol levels among adolescents with obesity in Seoul area. Methods : Body mass index[$BMI(kg/m^2)$], serum aspartate aminotransferase(AST) alanine aminotransferase( ALT), and total cholesterol levels were measured in 26,876 adolescents(male : 13,287, female : 13,589) of first grade of high school in Seoul between the ages of 15 and 16 years, enrolled in a large health examination survey by Seoul School Health Center(SSHC) in 2001. Obesity was defined as BMI more than 95th percentile for age and sex and normal weight was defined as BMI between 25th percentile and 75th percentile for age and sex. Abnormal levels of AST, ALT and total cholesterol were defined as more than 95th percentile for age and sex. Results : The BMI at 95th percentile was 28.7 in males and 26.9 in females. The prevalence of abnormal AST levels was higher in obesity group than in normal weight group. In males, those were 23.7% and 3.7%, respectively(P<0.01, $x^2-value$ : 529.2). In females, those were 11.8% and 4.9 %, respectively(P<0.01, $x^2-value$ : 56.3). The prevalence of abnormal ALT levels was significantly higher in the obesity group compared with the normal weight group. In males, those were 33.9% and 1.7%, respectively(P<0.01, $x^2-value$ : 1,693.4). In females, those were 22.3% and 3.9%, repectively(P<0.01, $x^2-value$ : 397.6). The prevalence of abnormal total cholesterol levels was higher in the obesity group than in the normal weight group. In males, those were 16.8% and 3.5%, respectively(P<0.01, $x^2-value$ : 268.3). In females, those were 9.0% and 5.4%, respectively(P<0.01, $x^2-value$ : 14.2). Conclusion : This study revealed that the prevalences of abnormal AST, ALT and total cholesterol level were higher in the obese group than in the normal weight group.

Preliminary analysis of metabolic syndrome components in Korean adolescents by using Korean national health and nutrition examination Survey pooling data (1998, 2001, and 2005) (한국국민건강영양조사 병합자료(1998년, 2001년, 2005년)를 이용한 소아청소년에서의 대사증후군 진단 요인의 기초 분석)

  • Purpose :This study aimed to estimate age- and gender-specific cut points for metabolic syndrome (MS) components, including body mass index (BMI), blood pressure (BP), triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and glucose. Methods :Data from the 1998, 2001, and 2005 Korean NHANES (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) were analyzed (n=4164; 2,139 boys and 2,025 girls, aged 10-19 years). Height, weight, waist circumference (WC), BP, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, and fasting glucose were measured. Results :BMI over $25kg/m^2$ represents the $85^{th}P$ (percentile) in 17-year-old boys and the $90^{th}P$ in 17-year-old girls. A level of WC higher than that of the cutoff points of Asian adults was found in the $90^{th}P$ of 17-year-old boys and girls. The $90^{th}P$ of boys aged 15 years old and the $95^{th}P$ of 13-year-old were included in the range of systolic BP over 130 mm Hg. Over the $75^{th}P$ of the group showed triglycerides greater than 110 mg/dL, (criterion of MS presented by NCEP-ATP III) and the $90^{th}P$ of the group showed triglycerides greater than 150 mg/dL by IDF. An HDL cholesterol level of 40 mg/dL represents the $25^{th}P$ in boys and the $10^{th}P$ in girls. A glucose level greater than 110 mg/dL represents the $95^{th}P$ and greater than 100 mg/dL represents the $90^{th}P$. Conclusion :Values of the $90^{th}P$ of MS components in late adolescent boys (WC, BP, and triglycerides) and girls (WC and triglycerides) were very high and in close proximity to the diagnostic criteria of adult MS.

Pattern of Decrease of Prostate Specific Antigen after Radical Radiotherapy for the Prostate Cancer (전립선암 환자에서 방사선치료 루 전립선특이항원 농도 변화 양상)

  • Purpose : Prostate specific antigen (PSA) is a useful tumor marker, which is widely used as a diagnostic index and predictor of both treatment and follow-up result in prostate cancer. A prospective analysis was carried out to obtain the period of PSA normalization and the half life of PSA and to analyze the factors influencing the period of PSA normalization. The PSA level was checked before and serially after radical radiotherapy. Materials and Method : Twen쇼 patients with clinically localized prostate cancer who underwent radical external beam radiotherapy were enrolled in this study. Accrual period was from April 1993 to May 1998. Median follow-up period was 20 months. Radiotherapy was given to whole pelvis followed by a boost to prostate. Dose range for the whole pelvis was from 45 Gy to 50 Gy and boost dose to prostate, from 14 Gy to 20 Gy. The post-irradiation PSA normal value was under 3.0 ng/ml. The physical examination and serum PSA level evaluation were performed at 3 month interval in the first one year, and then at every 4 to 6 months. Results : PSA value was normalized in nineteen patients (95%) within 12 months. The mean period of PSA normalization was 5.3 (${\pm}$2.7) months. The half life of PSA Of the nonfailing patients was 2.1 (${\pm}$0.9) month. The nadir PSA level Of the nonfailing Patients waS 0.8 (${\pm}$0.5) ng/ml. The period of PSA normalization had the positive correlation with pretreatment PSA level (R$^{2}$=0.468). The nadir PSA level had no definite positive correlation with the pretreatment PSA level (R$^{2}$=0.075). The half life of serum PSA level also had no definite correlation with pretreatment PSA level (R$^{2}$=0.029). Conclusion :The PSA level was mostly normalized within 8 months (85%). If it has not normalized within 12 months, we should consider the residual disease in prostate or distant metastasis. In 2 patients, the PSA level increased 6 months or 20 months before clinical disease was detected. So the serum PSA level can be used as early diagnostic indicator of treatment failure.

Adaptation Strategy in Dry Matter and Seed Production of Rice and Weed Species (벼와 잡초(雜草)의 건물생산(乾物生産) 및 종자생산(鐘子生産) 특성(特性)에 따른 환경적응(環境適應) 전략(戰略))

  • An experiment was conducted at the greenhouse of the International Rice Research Institute in 1987 to find out the character of dry matter production, the potential seed production ability and the ecological and physiological strategies to adaptation. For these, two rice cultivars, IR64(lowland rice) and UPLRi-5(upland rice), and seven weed species were used ; Echinochloa glabrescens Munro ex Hook. f., E. cress-galls ssp. hispidula (Retz.) Honda, E. colons (L.) Link, Monochoria vaginalis (Burin. f.), Ludwigia octovalvis Jacq.) Raven, Fimbristylis miliacea Vahl and Cyperus difformis L. Adaptation strategies of weed species varied by species. However, they had efficient seed production strategy through different ways. In general, sedge weed species (F. miliacea and C. difformis) produced great amount of seeds at the expense of seed size through greater ratooning ability and low relative dry weight for flowering. For broadleaved weed species, greater number of descendants were obtained through high plasticity and low relative dry weight for flowering (M. vaginalis) or greater growth ability through effective photosynthetic efficiency (L. octovalvis). Grass weed species, on the other hand, produced their seeds through effective growth (net assimilation rate and relative growth rate), high ratooning ability (except E. crus-galls ssp. hispidula) or low relative dry weight to maximum dry weight for flowering (E. glabrescens). The harvest indices of the weed species were considerably lower than those of rice. Fimbristylis miliacea had the greatest ratooning ability followed by C. difformis, E. colons and E. glabrescens. The greatest seed productivity was recorded by C. difformis (279, 000) and L. octovalvis (268,000) while rice produced the least number of seeds (1300-6100). Log seed weight had a negative linear relationship with log seed number (y=6.30-1.48X, $R=-0.965^{**}$). For all species plant plasticity response was not directly correlated with mortality response.

Genetic Correlation of Carcass and Meat Production Traits with Hormones and Metabolic Components in Hawoo (가축의 혈청 호르몬 및 대사물질 농도와 도체 및 산육형질에 대한 유전상관에 관한 연구)

  • This study was aimed to investigate genetic relationships, variables, and correlations between economic traits and metabolic materials in serum components according to bleeding periods and breeding locations for the castrated and not castrated Hanwoo cattle at National Livestock Research Institute. Analysis of variance for serum hormones and metabolic materials showed significant differences by breeding locations except for testosterone and globulin. Statistical differences for serum components were detected by birth year except for cortisol, total protein, globulin and creatinine, and by castration except for total protein and BUN. All the serum components were tended to have sire effects except for testosterone resulting in some degree of additive gene actions. Breeding locations showed statistical significances for carcass weight and back fat thickness, but not in carcass rate, KPH, live weight and transportation weight loss. Effects of breeding locations and castration were significant for all weight measurement periods except for 9 month and 6 month, respectively. A significant sire effect was observed in all weight measurements. Least squared means for concentration of serum components by breeding year, season and castration were not significant. High concentration of cortisol, creatinine and triglyceride and low concentration of IGF-1 and glucose were detected in castrated cattle. Concentration of testosterone with castrated cattle was $5.2\%$ corresponding to non castrated cattle. Estimation of heritabilities of serum components using a sire model with restricted maximum likelihood were ranged 0.07 to 0.58. High heritabilities were estimated for total protein, albumin, globulin, cortisol, creatinine and BUN were 0.53, 0.54, 0.42, 0.45, 0.58 and 0.54, respectively. Low heritabilities were estimated fur calcium, testosterone and IGF-1 for 0.07, 0.15 and 0.12, respectively. Heritabilities for carcass weight, back fat thickness, meat yield index, KPH, and IMF were estimated as 0.39, 0.45, 0.30 0.13, and 0.93. Heritabilities of weights on 18, 12, 9, 6, and 24 month were estimated as 0.78, 0.76, 0.62, 0.58 and 0.58. Estimated heritabilities for average daily gain on 6${\~}$2, 12${\~}$18, and 18${\~}$24 month were 0.80, 0.75 and 0.19, respectively.

Parameterization and Application of a Forest Landscape Model by Using National Forest Inventory and Long Term Ecological Research Data (국가산림자원조사와 장기생태연구 자료를 활용한 산림경관모형의 모수화 및 적용성 평가)

  • Forest landscape models (FLMs) can be used to investigate the complex interactions of various ecological processes and patterns, which makes them useful tools to evaluate how environmental and anthropogenic variables can influence forest ecosystems. However, due to the large spatio-temporal scales in FLMs studies, parameterization and validation can be extremely challenging when applying to new study areas. To address this issue, we focused on the parameterization and application of a spatially explicit forest landscape model, LANDIS-II, to Mt. Gyebang, South Korea, with the use of the National Forest Inventory (NFI) and long-term ecological research (LTER) site data. In this study, we present the followings for the biomass succession extension of LANDIS-II: 1) species-specific and spatial parameters estimation for the biomass succession extension of LANDIS-II, 2) calibration, and 3) application and validation for Mt. Gyebang. For the biomass succession extension, we selected 14 tree species, and parameterized ecoregion map, initial community map, species growth characteristics. We produced ecoregion map using elevation, aspect, and topographic wetness index based on digital elevation model. Initial community map was produced based on NFI and sub-alpine survey data. Tree species growth parameters, such as aboveground net primary production and maximum aboveground biomass, were estimated from PnET-II model based on species physiological factors and environmental variables. Literature data were used to estimate species physiological factors, such as FolN, SLWmax, HalfSat, growing temperature, and shade tolerance. For calibration and validation purposes, we compared species-specific aboveground biomass of model outputs and NFI and sub-alpine survey data and calculated coefficient of determination (R2) and root mean square error (RMSE). The final model performed very well, with 0. 98 R2 and 8. 9 RMSE. This study can serve as a foundation for the use of FLMs to other applications such as comparing alternative forest management scenarios and natural disturbance effects.

Effect of Herb and Bio-ceramic Complex Supplementation on Growth Performance and Meat Quality Characteristics in Finishing Pigs (한방부산물과 바이오 세라믹(약돌) 혼합물의 급여가 비육돈의 성장 및 육질 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effect of herb and bio ceramic complex supplementation on growth performance and meat quality characteristics in finishing pigs. Seventy-two crossbred (Landrace ${\times}$ Yorkshire ${\times}$ Duroc) pigs (78.98kg average initial body weight) were used in a 45 days growth assay. Dietary treatments included 1) Control (basal diet). 2) HBC (Herb and bioceramic complex) 0.1 (basal diet + 0.1% Herb and bioceramic complex) and 3) HBC 0.2 (basal diet +0.2% Herb and bioceramic complex). For overall period, ADG (Average Daily weight Gain), ADFI (Average Daily feed Intake) and ADG/ADFI increased in Control with no significant difference (p>0.05). Backfat thickness was not significantly different among the treatments (p>0.05). The total cholesterol, HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol, LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol, LDL + VLDL (Very Low Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol, Triglyceride and Atherogenic index concentrations of serum in pigs fed HBC 0.2 diet were lower than those of pigs fed Control and HBC 0.1 diets without significant difference (p>0.05). L$\^$*/-, a$\^$*/-, and b$\^$*/- values of M. longissimus dorsi muscle were not significantly different among the treatments (p>0.05). The pH of pigs fed HBC 0.2 diet was significantly lower than that of pigs fed Control and HBC 0.1 diets (p<0.05).
