Today, silicon and epoxy resin are used as materials of conversion lenses for white LEDs on the basis of their good bonding and transparency in LED packages. But these materials give rise to long-term performance problems such as reaction with water, yellowing transition, and shrinkage by heat. These problems are major factors underlying performance deterioration of LEDs. In this study, in order to address these problems, we fabricated a conversion lenses using glass, which has good chemical durability and is stable to heat. The fabricated conversion lenses were applied to a remote phosphor type. In this experiment, the conversion lens for white LED was coated on a glass substrate by a screen printing method using paste. The thickness of the coated conversion lens was controlled during 2 or 3 iterations of coating. The conversion lens fabricated under high heat treatment temperature and with a thin coating showed higher luminance efficiency and CCT closer to white light than fabricated lenses under low heat treatment temperature or a thick coating. The conversion lens with $32{\mu}m$ coating thickness showed the best optical properties: the measured values of the CCT, CRI, and luminance efficiency were 4468 K, 68, and 142.22 lm/w in 20 wt% glass frit, 80 wt% phosphor with sintering at $800^{\circ}C$.
Diagnostic display monitor QA according to AAPM TG18 is usually performed by PACS administrator, product manager and reading doctor, and for acceptance testing and periodic quality control evaluation, a combination of visual and quantitative tests can be used, as outlined in sections 5 and 6 of 'assessment of display performance for medical imaging systems'. Although many display tests can be performed visually, a more objective and quantitative evaluation of display performance requires special test tools. The required instruments vary in their complexity and cost, depending on the context of the evaluation(research, acceptance testing, or quality control) and how thorough the evaluation needs to be. Objective and reliable assessment of many display characteristics can be performed with relatively inexpensive equipment, So, we made 'AAPM TG18 guiding instrument' to ues variable purpose of the evaluation of 'geometrical distortions(quantitative"', 'veiling glare(visual)' and 'sensor calibration'. The spatial measurements for the quantitative evaluation of geometric distortions, and the measurement of the veling-glare ring response function which provides information regarding the spatial extent of the luminance spread, can be performed using the TG18 guiding instrument can be used to sensor calibration to standardize the basic rate of 0% luminance when periodic calibration.
This paper investigates chrominance reconstruction methods that reconstruct subsampled chrominance information efficiently using the correlation between luminance and chrominance components in the decompression process of compressed images, and analyzes drawbacks involved in the adaptive-weighted 2-dimensional linear interpolation among the methods, which shows higher efficiency in the view of computational complexity than other methods. To improve the drawback that the spatial frequency distribution is not considered for the decompressed image and to support the application on a low-performance system in behalf of 2-dimensional linear interpolation, this paper proposes the multi-mode reconstruction method which uses three reconstruction methods having different computational complexity from each other according to the degree of edge response of luminance component. The performance evaluation on a development platform for embedded systems showed that the proposed reconstruction method supports the similar level of image quality for decompressed images while reducing the overall computation time for chrominance reconstruction in comparison with the 2-dimensional linear interpolation.

This study investigates the methodology to evaluate the quantified performance of pavement markings and traffic guide signs using digital images. This methodology is significant to attempt to quantify their performance without large brightness photometer at the nighttime and bad weather. The retroreflective performance of pavement markings are evaluated through the contrast of gray levels of pavements and markings in collected digital images under the case of rain, dampness, and dryness. In addition, the appraisal of retroreflective performance of traffic guide signs are implemented through the comparison between interior illuminated and the existing retroreflective traffic guide signs using the contrast of luminance extracted from the value of RGB of backgrounds and legends in collected digital images according to geometric design, driving lanes, and the distance between the car and the sign. As a result, the retroreflective performance of pavement markings deteriorates about 3.5 times and 2 times under the case of rain and dampness respectively than dryness. Also, the performance of the existing traffic guide signs is significantly influenced by geometric design, driving lanes, and the distance, otherwise interior illuminated traffic guide signs. This methodology can be utilized to construct objective information of performance of traffic safety facilities to select appropriate position of expensive high reflective pavement markings and interior illuminated traffic guide signs considering diverse weather and geometric design.

Significant process in the performance and commercialization of full-color thin-film electroluminescent(EL) displays has been achieved. This is due to the remarkable progress made in the performance of exiting EL phosphors, development of new phosphor materials, and design of new EL phosphor structures. In this paper, we fabricated thinfilm EL devices with ZnS buffer and $BaTiO_3$ electric layer with on top and bottom of phosphor layer. The effect of ZnS and $BaTiO_3$ layer on the luminance of EL device were studied.
Illuminance and luminous levels in a small office space due to daylight were calculated to analyze the impact of daylight on contrast and lighting energy savings. Computer simulations were performed for four blind conditions under a clear sky condition. The blind conditions significantly impacted the illuminance an4 luminance level. Visual performance scores were calculated according to the transfer function that uses absolute contrast between target and background surface. The blind condition that had 45 tilted angle toward ground provided good contrast and performance scores. Using a control algorithm of an automated daylight dimming control system lighting energy sayings were predicted. For all blind conditions minimum lighting energy was consumed.
A new method is proposed for the design of the dichroic mirrors in 3-LCD projection systems for color separation/composition. Rather than simply basing the color performance cirterion on luminance or chromatic saturation only, the optimum design parameters can be found by maximizing the volume of the perceived color gamut in RLAB color space and related color appearance model and used the linearly approximated spectrum of dichroic mirrors for simplicity and vector space description. By this method, we found optimal half-power wavelengths in dichroic mirrors which maximized our performance criterion.
We fabricated surface pattern on a light guide panel (LGP) using $CO_2$ laser to improve the luminescence performance of inner-scatterer LGP, which is made of PMMA sample with exploiting Q-switched $2^{nd}$ harmonic Nd:YAG laser engraving system, and the effect of surface pattern in the brightness distribution of LGP was analysed. To prove the feasibility of proposed method in the enhancement of LGP performance, we designed three different surface patterns on the inner-scatterer LGP. The experimental results has proved the potential in the application of surface pattern to increasing the brightness of inner-scatterer LGP.
Highly efficient white phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes with a mixed-host structure are developed and the device characteristics are studied. The introduction of a hole-transport-type host (N, N'-dicarbazolyl-3-3-benzen (mCP)) into an electron-transport-type host (m-bis-(triphenylsilyl)benzene (UGH3)) as a mixed-host emissive layer effectively achieves higher current density and lower driving voltage. The peak external quantum and power efficiency with the mixed-host structure improve up to 18.9% and 40.9 lm/W, respectively. Moreover, this mixed-host structure device shows over 30% enhanced performance compared with a single-host structure device at a luminance of 10,000 $cd/m^2$ without any change in the electroluminescence spectra.

The aim of this study is to analyze the daylight performance at Changdeokgung Nakseonjae that is the representative and most well preserved Korean royal palace. As a result of measuring illuminance and luminance, direct sunlight is cut off by the eaves and reflective light from the court comes in the inside of the upper floor. As the layer of window is increased, daylight is decreased and the illuminance distribution is more stable because of decreasing of illuminance change. This study would be used as preliminary data for applying characteristics of lighting environment of Korean royal palace to modern architecture.
