Ball reducer (HERB Drive: High Efficient Wave Rolling Ball Drive) with waved grooves has many advantages over other types of reducers for high-reduction ratio, low noise and low energy loss, etc. The mechanism of force transmission is very similar to that of cam and follower in automobile valve train system especially in contact behaviors. In this study, we have investigated the traces of contact between ball and outer ring, and the dynamic contact behaviors of elastohydodynamic lubrication(EHL) with a certain reduction ratio. In order to verify the contact behaviors between ball and outer ring for the critical endurance lift, the contact velocity and load are computed for a cycle. During some intervals of a cycle, the contact velocity reverses its direction very suddenly. It is expected that changing the contact direction causes undesirable endurance performance because EHL film frequently col lapse at the moment of velocity reversal. From the computational investigation in this work, we hope to predict similar contact damages in other machinery due to this kind of contact behaviors, which is very typical in many contact phenomena.

In this study, we have investigated the traces of contact between ball and outer race and the working behaviors with a certain reduction ratio. In order to verify the contact behaviors between ball and outer race, which determines the critical endurance life the contact velocity and load are computed for a cycle. Chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process was studied in terms of tribology in this paper. CMP performed by the down force and the relative motion of pad and wafer with slurry is typically tribological system composed of friction, wear and lubrication. The piezoelectric quartz sensor for friction force measurement was installed and the friction force was detected during CMP process. Various friction signals were attained and analyzed with the kind of pad, abrasive and abrasive concentration. As a result of experiment, the lubrication regime is classified with ηv/p(η, v and p; the viscosity, relative velocity and pressure). The characteristics of friction and material removal mechanism is also different as a function of the kind of abrasive and the abrasive concentration in slurry. Especially, the material removal per unit distance is directly proportional to the friction force and the non~uniformity has relation to the coefficient of friction.
The valve assembly used in nuclear power plants is important safety-related equipment. In the new standard, the physical attributes are measured using a valve diagnosis test, which is used in the expansion to other non-tested valves using a quantitative test-basis methodology. With a motor-operated actuator, the state of stem's lubrication is related to physical attributes such as the stem factor and the friction coefficient. This study analyzed the numerical transient of fluid and solid lubrication with a squeeze film effect due to the loading rate on the stem and the stem nut using the experimental data. The differential equation that governs the motion mechanism of the stem and stem nut is established and analyzed. The flow rate, the fluid and the solid contact forces are calculated with the friction coefficient. Finally, we found that a change in the friction coefficient results from a change of the shear force in the solid contact mode during the interchange process between the solid contact mode and the fluid contact mode. The qualitative understanding of the squeeze film effect is expanded quantitatively for forces, thread surface distance, velocity, and acceleration, with consideration of the metal solid contact and fluid contact.
Recently, bent-axis-type axial piston pumps drived by rod being in extensively used in the world, because of simple design, lightweight, effective cost. So, to guarantee the quality of bent-axis-type axial piston pumps drived by rods, it is necessary to know chracteristics of the forces applied to rods and the driving mechanism of rods. But, as they perform both reciprocating and spinning motions, it is difficult to understand driving mechanism. In this paper, I explained the theoretical driving mechanisms of cylinder block drived by rods through geometric method and the characteristics of the forces applied to them.
In order to elucidate the lubricating mechanism of polyolester base oils [POEs], the wear characteristics of 27 kinds of polyolester base oils including mixed POEs were investigated. Their wear results were discussed in terms of the effect of molecular structure on wear performance and compared with those of mineral oil. In addition, the adsorption ability of POEs to reduced iron and their hydrolysis rates were measured and the effect of their molecular structures on the adsorptivity and hydrolysis rate of POEs was discussed, respectively. Finally, the lubricating mechanism anlyzed from these results of wear characteristics, adsorptivity and hydrolysis rate was proposed. That is to say, POEs are firstly adsorbed to friction surface and decomposed by hydrolysis or thermal degradation. Fatty acids obtained by degradation of POEs form adsorption film on friction surface. The larger become cohesive ability among fatty acid molecules in the adsorption film, the better gets the wear performance of POEs.
This dissertation analyzes the running mechanism of flexible and thin tape above rotating head through the numerical simulation and the experiment. The scope of analysis is confined to the phenomena of two dimensional elasto hydrodynamic lubrication between the protruded bump on a rotating cylinder and the running tape. This model is based on the elastic deformation equation of plate and shell and Reynolds equation. Finite difference method is employed as a numerical technique to calculate (1) the distribution of pressure between the running tape and rotating bump and (2) the vertical deformation of elastic thin tape over he rotating bump under hydrodynamic pressure. In numerical analyses, the effects of bump size on flying characteristics of the tape were evaluated and examined considering the influence of tension and stiffness of tape.
Sealing of lubricant-air mixture in the high performance machining center is one of most the important characteristics to carry out enhanced lubrication. High speed spindle requires non-contact type of sealing mechanism. Evaluating an optimum seal design to minimize leakage is concerned in the aspect of flow control. Effect of geometry and leakage path are evaluated according to variation of sealing geometry. Velocity, pressure, turbulence intensity of profile is calculated to find more efficient geometry and variables. This offers a methodological way of enhancement seal design for high speed spindle. The working fluid is regarded as two phases that are mixed flow of oil phase and air phase. It is more reasonable to simulate an oil jet or oil mist type high speed spindle lubrication. Turbulence and compressible flow model are used to evaluate a flow characteristic. This paper considers a design effect of sealing capability of non- contact type seals for high speed spindle and analyzes leakage characteristics to minimize a leakage 7 on the same sealing area.
Some surface pattern of tribological application is an attractive technology of engineered surface. Therefore, friction reduction is considered to be necessary for improved efficiency of machine. This study investigated the effect of friction property for angles of micro-crosshatch groove surface pattern on bearing steel using pin-on-disk test. We obtain sample which can be fabricated by photolithography process. We discuss the friction property depend on an angle of crosshatch groove surface pattern. We can verify the lubrication mechanism as Stribeck curve, which has a relationship between the friction coefficient and a dimensionless parameter under the lubrication condition. It was found that the friction coefficient was related to angle of crosshatch groove pattern on contact surface.
In this study, a hydrodynamic analysis of the reciprocating compressor crankshaft considering a finite bearing modelling of the journal bearings used in small refrigeration compressors is performed. In the problem formulation of the compression mechanism dynamics, all corresponding hydrodynamic forces and moments are considered using the finite bearing analysis in order to determine the crankshaft trajectory at each step. The solution of the Reynolds' equation is determined numerically using a finite difference method and a Newton-Raphson procedure was employed in solving the dynamic equations of the crankshaft. The crankshaft orbits fur the finite bearing model and short bearing theory were used to compare the effect of the hydrodynamic farces of the journal bearings on the dynamic and lubrication characteristics of the crankshaft-journal bearing system. Results show that the finite bearing model for the journal bearings must be considered in calculating for the accurate dynamic characteristics of the reciprocating compressor crankshaft.
