  • In this paper, a new voltage-controlled tunable integrator for low-voltage applications is proposed. The proposed active element is composed of the CMOS complementary cascode circuit which can extend transconductance of an element. Therefore, the unity gain frequency which is determined transcon-ductance is increased than that of the conventional element. And then these results are verified by the $0.25{\mu}m$ CMOS n-well parameter HSPICE simulation. As a result, the gain and the unity gain frequency are 42dB and 200MHz respectively in the element on 2V supply voltage. And power dissipation of the designed circuit is 0.32mW.

  • Recent significant development of organic electronics is worthy of notice for its practical application as well as fundamental understandings. Complementary-like logic circuit is a key factor to realize actual operating organic electronic devices since its advantages of low power dissipation, good noise margin and stable operations. In this reason, studies on ambipolar properties of organic materials which can act as either n-type or p-type are getting more attentions. Performances of ambipolar transistors vary a lot along its molecular structures and film properties. When properly fabricated, balanced hole and electron mobilities over 1 cm2/Vs were observed recently. Study of charge transport in ambipolar organic transistors to understand this high performance was carried out through charge modulation spectroscopy.

  • In this paper, a dual-channel readout amplifier array is realized in a standard $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology for the applications of panoramic scan LADAR systems. Each channel consists of a PIN photodiode with 0.9 A/W responsivity and a 1.0 Gb/s readout amplifier(ROA). The proposed ROA shares the basic configuration of the previously reported feedforward TIA, except that it exploits a replica input to exclude a low pass filter(LPF), thus reducing chip area and improving integration level, and to efficiently reject common-mode noises. Measured results demonstrate that each channel achieves $70dB{\Omega}$ transimpedance gain, 829 MHz bandwidth, -22 dBm sensitivity for $10^{-9}BER$, -34 dB crosstalk between adjacent channels, and 45 mW power dissipation from a single 1.8 V supply.

  • This paper presents an efficient vibration energy harvester with a piezoelectric (PE) cantilever. The proposed PE energy harvester increases the efficiency through minimization of hardware complexity and hence reduction of power dissipation of the circuit. Two key features of the proposed energy harvester are (i) incorporation synchronized switches with a simple control circuit, and (ii) a feed-forward buck converter with a simple control circuit. The chip was fabricated in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS processing technology, and the measured results indicate that the proposed rectifier achieves the efficiency of 77%. The core area of the chip is 0.2 mm2.

  • We present a multi-Gbit/s digital I/O interface based on RF-modulation and capacitive-coupling over an impedance matched transmission line. The RF-interconnect(RFI) can greatly reduce the digital switching noise and eliminate the dc power dissipation over the channel. It also enables reduced signal amplitude(as low as 200 ㎷) with enhanced data rate and affordable circuit overhead. This paper addresses the system advantages and implementation issues of RFI. A prototype on-chip RFI transceiver is implemented in 0.18-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS. It demonstrates a maximum data rate of 2.2 Gbit/s via 10.5-㎓ RF-modulation. The RFI can be very instrumental for future high-speed inter- and intra-ULSI data links.

  • Theoretical expressions are introduced to achieve low phase-noise ring oscillators. Understanding of the relations between the phase-noise and the design parameters leads to the reduction of the phase-noise at the stage of the circuit design. Using expressions from reference, ways of reducing the phase noise are suggested.

  • A Novel wide-band wide-tunable current-mode (CM) gamma corrector for HDTV camera applications is proposed. The gamma corrector provides accurate gamma control in a wide range by simple electrical adjustment of weighting amplifiers' gain. It has wide signal bandwidth more than 40MHz sufficient for HDTV video signal processing and is implementable with simple integrated circuit with low power dissipation of 125mW.

  • A study has been carried out on the characteristics of dielectric consent and the dissipation factor of Eicosamethyl Eneasiloxane as a function of frequency($30{\sim}10^5$[Hz]) and temperature(-70[$^{\circ}C$] to 65[$^{\circ}C$]). The result shows that a well-defined maxima of the absorption curves characterized by a dipole loss mechanism at a low temperature range. For temperatures in the vicinity of room temperature and higher, the loss in the range of power frequencies are predominantly of ionic nature. The increase of ionic conduction is attributed to the presence of ionizable oxidation products and their increased dissocation feature. The effect of viscosity upon the dipole loss intensity appeared to be considerably less pronounced than that upon ionic conduction loss.

  • Despite its success and wide application, base isolation system has been challenged for its passive nature, i.e., incapable of working with versatile external loadings. This is particularly exaggerated during near-source earthquakes and earthquakes with dominate low-frequency components. To address this issue, many efforts have been explored, including active base isolation system and hybrid base isolation system (with added controllable damping). Active base isolation system requires extra energy input which is not economical and the power supply may not be available during earthquakes. Although with tunable energy dissipation ability, hybrid base isolation systems are not able to alter its fundamental natural frequency to cope with varying external loadings. This paper reports an overview of new adventure with aim to develop adaptive base isolation system with controllable stiffness (thus adaptive natural frequency). With assistance of the feedback control system and the use of smart material technology, the proposed smart base isolation system is able to realize real-time decoupling of external loading and hence provides effective seismic protection against different types of earthquakes.
