  • This paper presents a multi-phase ring VCO for low-cost, low-power GPS receiver. In the RF band used in GPS, L1 band is now in commercial-use and L2,L5 are predicting to be commercial-use soon. Thus Wide band PLL and Cost-effective IC solutions are required for future multi-band GPS receiver that received three types band at once. A new PLL architecture for multi-band GPS application is proposed. Ring VCO is even smaller than LC-VCO and a good alternative for low-cost solution. Proposed multi-phase ring VCO offers wide frequency range covering L1, L2, and L5 band, 20% reduction of area, 23% reduction of PLL power and can generate I/Q without extra I/Q generator.

  • The attitude determination system is indispensable for navigation, guidance and control tasks. In order to construct this system some special products that use dual frequencies or have on receiver engine with multiple antennas are used. But they are so expensive. Thus there are still strong requirements for the conventional low cost single frequency off-the-shelf receiver. This paper will propose a new technique to resolve integer ambiguity with single frequency GPS receiver and will show the problems of the attitude applications in which low cost receiver are being used. Also, based on this new technique precise attitude determination is presented.

  • An attitude GPS receiver with 3 antennas obtains 3-dimensional attitude using GPS carrier phase measurement INS obtains the 3 dimensional navigation solution for IMU consisting of accelerometers and gyro. Ground-alignment process for the low -cost INS cannot be performed well due to the large sensor noise. Using the standard GPS receiver, however, continuous in-flight alignment for the INS becomes possible, and consequently, the errors in IMU sensors and navigation solution can be compensated. Especially with attitude measurement from the attitude GPS receiver, the compensation of errors in gyroscope and attitude would be done respite of the vehicle´s dynamics and their error covariance would be reduced.   • This study was performed to investigate the effects of inertial navigation system (INS) / global positioning system (GPS) sensor fusion for agricultural vehicle navigation. An extended Kalman filter algorithm was adopted for INS/GPS sensor fusion in an integrated mode, and the vehicle dynamic model was used instead of the navigation state error model. The INS/GPS system was consisted of a low-cost gyroscope, an odometer and a GPS receiver, and its performance was tested through computer simulations. When measurement noises of GPS receiver were 10, 1.0, 0.5, and 0.2 m ($1{\sigma}$), RMS position and heading errors of INS/GPS system at 5 m/s straight path were remarkably reduced with 10%, 35%, 40%, and 60% of those obtained from the GPS receiver, respectively. The decrease of position and heading errors by using INS/GPS rather than stand-alone GPS can provide more stable steering of agricultural equipments. Therefore, the low-cost INS/GPS system using the extended Kalman filter algorithm may enable the self-autonomous navigation to meet required performance like stable steering or more less position errors even in slow-speed operation.

  • In this paper, the design, construction and basic characteristics of an electronically adaptive array antenna for the GPS receiver is described. The susceptibility of the GPS signals to the interference is of concern to the GPS user community. Because of the low received power of the GPS signals, outages can easily occur due to the unintentional interference and the easily obtainable low cost GPS jammer denying access to the GPS signals. We propose a technique of the adaptive array antenna that detects the GPS interference sources and controls the null beam pattern only toward the jamming sources to acquire GPS navigation data after acquisition and tracking of the GPS signals.

  • The meeds of vehicle navigation system are increassing and the accurate determination of position is still of promary improtance. GPS (Global Positioning System)receiver and low cost dead reckoning sensors have been used for vehicle position location. The integartion of these can improve the system performance to cope with accumulating errors and multipath problem in urban area. However, the implementation of integrated system of two sensors is net easy, for their real data ave noises that are not apt to be modeled. This paper discusses how to combine a GPS receiver and dead reckoning sensors. The characteriatics of sensors and their data are investigated, and the system for field test is manufactured. The test results of a selected typical route are presented.

위성배치정보와 보정정보 맵핑 알고리즘을 이용한 저가형 GPS 수신기의 DGPS 서비스 적용 방안 연구 (A Study on the DGPS Service Utilization for the Low-cost GPS Receiver Module Based on the Correction Projection Algorithm)

  • 본 논문은 저가형 GPS 수신 모듈에 DGPS 서비스를 적용하기 위한 방안으로 NMEA GPGSV 데이터의 위성 배치 정보에 포함된 위성 앙각과 방위각으로 관측 행렬을 구성한 후, 거리기반 보정정보를 위치영역으로 투영하여 기 산출된 위치 오차 벡터를 수정하는 방안을 제시하였다. 저가형 수신기인 U-blox LEA-5H 모델의 출력 데이터에 제안한 알고리즘을 적용한 결과 주 활동 시간인 낮 시간에 수평 오차 RMS를 1.8m에서 1m 이내로 줄였으며, 수직 정확도는 RMS 5.8m에서 1.4m로 75% 향상시킴을 확인하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 방식은 하드웨어의 변경없이 소프트웨어만으로 저가형 GPS의 성능을 DGPS 수준으로 향상시키는 기법이므로, 소비자와 제조사의 부담을 경감시켜 향후 제공될 고정밀 측위 서비스 인프라의 활성화에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • In recent years, there is a strong urge to introduce GPS systems which can role in reference points and measure global positions to the field of structural measurements. In this study, a new structural measurement system using low-cost L1 single frequency GPS receivers instead of conventional expensive RTK L1&L2 dual frequency GPS receiver. This system consists of GPS OEM board, GPS antenna, wireless access points, and monitoring program based on Lambda method and makes it possible to apply to monitor a static behavior of large scaled Infra-structures, such as dams, tall buildings, road slops.

  • 최근 SA(Selective Availability)의 해제에 따른 GPS의 활용이 증대되면서 차량운행에 있어서도 저가 GPS 수신기의 활용이 활발하게 이루어지고 있으며, 일반 차량 운행자를 위한 상용화가 급속도로 이루어지고 있다. 하지만 저가 GPS수신기를 통한 실시간 위치정보의 제공은 실질적으로 상당한 오차를 포함하고 있다. 이는 저가 수신기가 가지고 있는 문제라 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 저가 수신기와 정밀 측위용 이주파 수신기를 이용하여 측지분야에서 검증된 GPS측량방법을 통해 오차를 비교ㆍ분석하고 저가 수신기의 정확도 향상을 위한 방법을 제시하고자 하였다.
