Experimental investigation of low-velocity impact characteristics of steel-concrete-steel sandwich beams

  • A series of tests was conducted to study the behaviour of steel-composite sandwich beams under low velocity hard impact. Damage characteristic and performance of sandwich beams with different spacing of shear connector were evaluated under impact loading. Thin steel plates were used as top and bottom skins of the sandwich beams and plain concrete was used as the core material. Shear connectors were provided by welding of angle sections on steel plates. The sandwich beams were impacted at their midpoint by a hemi-spherical nose shaped projectile dropped from various heights. Strains on steel plates were measured to study the effects of impact velocity or impact momentum on the performance of sandwich beams. Spacing of shear connectors is found to have significant effects on the impact response of the beams.

유한요소법에 의한 등방성과 이방성 재료의 저속 충격 해석 (Low-Velocity Impact Analyses of Isotropic and Anisotropic Materials by the Finite Element Method)

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the impact resposes(impulsive stress and strain etc.) of anisotropic materials subjected to the low-velocity impact. For this purpose, a beam finite element program based on modified higher-order beam theory for anisotropic materials are developed and used to simulate the dynamic behaviors [contact force, displacement of ball and target, strain(stress) response histories] according to the changes of material property, stacking sequence, velocity and dimension etc.. Test materials for simulation are composed of $[0^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}]_{2s} and [90^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/90^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}/90^{\circ}]_{2s}$ stacking sequences. Finally, the results of this simulation are compared with those of wave propagation theory and then the impact responses and wave propagation phenomena are investigated.

가변댐퍼식 궤도차량용 현수장치의 성능에 관한 연구 (A study on the performance of variable damper type suspension for tracked vehicle)

  • The feasibility of using fluidic components for improving certain performance characteristics of the suspension systems for tracked vehicle is investigated. This study describes three variable damping systems for which the damping coefficients are function of relative velocity and absolute a of the vehicle body. Through the comparison analysis between constant damping coefficient damper and each of variable dampers. the followings were found: (1)Fluidic Diode Damper gave less accelerations, (2)Both Fluidic Diode Damper and Relative Velocity Damper gave the less time for which the wheel is off the ground, (3) At low vehicle velocity Fluidic Diode Damper gave low energy dissipation rate, while at high vehicle velocity Turbulence Accelerometer Damper gave low energy dissipation rate.

  • In the low velocity displacement air-conditioning system, the conditioned air is supplied from the diffuser placed on the wall near the floor and vented near the ceiling. This system has some advantages upon the traditional mixing system; the air quality near the people is improved by the displacing action of the system and the energy may be saved by neglecting the cooling or heating load for the upper space of the space above the people. This study is to examine the temperature and velocity distributions in the room and near the diffuser. It is found that the temperature is stratified uniformly all over the room space to show the displacing function of the system.

저레이놀즈수 난류에 대한 레이놀즈 응력모델 (A Reynolds Stress Model for Low-Reynolds-Number Turbulence)

  • 본 연구에서는 새로운 유형의 저레이놀즈수 레이놀즈응력모델을 개발하기 위해 Launder등과 Gibson과 Launder에 의해 제시된 레이놀즈응력모델을 벽근처의 저 레이놀즈수 영역까지 확장하였다. 개발된 모델의 성능을 시험하기 위해 두 평판사이 에서 완전히 발달된 2차원 유동을 계산하여 그 결과를 Kimm등에 의해 수행된Navier- Stokes방정식의 직접계산결과와 비교하였으며, 아울러 Launder와 Shima가 제시한 모델로도 계산을 수행하여 그 결과를 비교 검토하였다.

Postural Stability Change in Young People with Low Back Pain

  • Purpose: We investigated balance change in patients with low back pain (LBP) by comparing postural sway velocity between young LBP patients and healthy subjects. Methods: The cross-sectional study enrolled 37 young patients with over 3-month duration of LBP and 38 healthy subjects between the ages of 20 and 30 years old. All subjects were targeted by measuring their balance during quiet standing with open eye and closed eye conditions. The postural sway velocity between the LBP patients and healthy subjects was compared. As well, postural sway velocity was determined in the LBP patients with both eyes open and closed. Results: Significant differences were evident in the anteroposterior and mediolateral mean velocity of center-of-pressure between LBP patients and healthy subjects, and in LBP patients in the eye open and eye closed conditions. Conclusion: The balance of young LBP patients was worse than healthy subjects during quiet standing, and was especially lessened in the absence of vision.

Geometry optimization of a double-layered inertial reactive armor configured with rotating discs

  • An innovative inertial reactive armor is being developed through a multi-discipline project. Unlike the well-known explosive or non-explosive reactive armour that uses high-energy explosives or bulging effect, the proposed inertial reactive armour uses active disc elements that is set to rotate rapidly upon impact to effectively deflect and disrupt shaped charges and kinetic energy penetrators. The effectiveness of the proposed armour highly depends on the tangential velocity of the impact point on the rotating disc. However,for a single layer armour with an array of high-speed rotating discs, the tangential velocity is relatively low near the center of the disc and is not available between the gap of the discs. Therefore, it is necessary to configure the armor with double layers to increase the tangential velocity at the point of impact. This paper explores a multi-objective geometry design optimization for the double-layered armor using Nelder-Mead optimization algorithm and integration tools of the python programming language. The optimization objectives include maximizing both average tangential velocity and high tangential velocity areas and minimizing low tangential velocity area. The design parameters include the relative position (translation and rotation) of the disc element between two armor layers. The optimized design results in a significant increase of the average tangential velocity (38%), increase of the high tangential velocity area (71.3%), and decrease of the low tangential velocity area (86.2%) as comparing to the single layer armor.

원전 저압케이블 열화도 평가를 위한 초음파 음속계측에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Measurement of Ultrasound Velocity to Evaluate Degradation of Low Voltage Cables for Nuclear Power Plants)

  • 원자력발전소에는 여러 종류의 케이블이 전력공급, 감시 및 제어신호의 전달을 위해 열악한 환경하에서 이용되고 있다. 발전소의 안전한 운전을 위해서 이 케이블이 어느 정도 열화 되었는지 확인할 필요가 있다. 특히, 원자력발전소의 수명 연장과 더불어 저압 케이블을 장기간 사용함에 따라서 저압케이블의 열화를 평가하기 위한 방법이 필요하게 되었다 저압케이블의 열화를 측정하는 파라미터로는 주변 온도, 절연재질의 경도, 파단시 연신률(EAB, Elongation At Breaking Point) 등이 있다. 그러나, 온도나 경도를 계측하는 검사는 정량적인 판단기준의 설정이 곤란하고 진단의 정밀도가 낮으며, 부분적으로 샘플링하는 방법은 샘플링되는 케이블에 연결된 부하를 정전시켜야 하고 장소와 시간적인 제약이 있으며, 전기적 측정법은 노화 초기부터 중기까지의 열화정도를 확인하기 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 재료의 열화에 따라서 초음파의 음속이 변화한다는 이론적인 배경(1,2)을 바탕으로 저압 케이블 재료의 열화에 따른 초음파의 음속을 측정하였다. 이를 위해, 원자력발전소에서 사용되는 저압케이블을 가속 열화시켰으며, 저압케이블의 피복재에서 초음파의 음속을 측정할 수 있는 장비를 개발하여, 초음파의 음속측정 후 인장시험을 통해 파단시 연신률을 측정하였다. 파단시 연신률이 증가함에 따라서 음속이 선형적으로 감소하였으며, 초음파의 음속은 열화의 정량적 평가 파라미터로서의 사용 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • This paper presents a method for increasing controller performance through multirate state estimation for ac machines at a low velocity. The multirate controller outputs control desired speed at each measurement Instant. The simulation results show that the performance of multirate velocity estimation and control at low velocity is improved than single rate one.

  • The dynamic behavior of graphite/epoxy laminated composite shell structure due to low-velocity impact is investigated using the finite element method. In this analysis, the Newmark's constant-acceleration time integration algorithm is used. The impact response such as contact force, central deflection and dynamic strain history form shell structure analysis are compared with those form the plate non-linear analysis. The effects of curvature, impact velocity and mass of impactor on the composite shell are discussed.
