  • The numbers of synthetic greases have been developed with synthetic oils because of their excellent performance factors including thermal/oxidation stability, low-temperature fluidity and plastic compatibility. Long life under high-temperature condition and excellent low-temperature fluidity are required to serve as grease for bearings of engine room electrical component. As many plastics are used in place of metals for the purpose of weight saving, synthetic hydrocarbon grease is in use to avoid adverse effect on plastics. Other various special synthetic greases are also in use depending on specific requirements like conductivity and vacuum condition.

  • Under this study, the characteristics of concrete intensity condition following the curing method under the extremely low temperature environment have been contemplated, and as a result, in the event of insulation + heat cable curing, the intensity and accumulated temperature accomplishment period is required for two times of requiring initial frost damage prevention than the case of heating + heat insulation curing method due to the insufficient calories supplied in general.

  • We experimented on cutting characteristics - cutting force, behavior of cutting temperature, surface roughness, behavior of chips-under low temperature,which generated by liquid nitrogen(77K). The workpieces were freezed to -195 .deg. C and liquid nitrogen was also sprinkled on cutting area in order to increase the efficiency of machining in low temperature. The workpiece was became to -195 .deg. C in 5 minutes. In cooled condition(CC) surface roughness of workpiece was better than normal condition(NC). In addition, we investigated the possibility that surface roughness of workpiece and shear angle can be predicted analyzing cutting condititions by the trained neural network.

  • In order to develop effective manufacturing method and to improve quality of low-salt fermented squid(10% of table salt), we investigated the effects of temperature, salinity and pH on the growth of Staphylococcus xylosus, Micrococcus varians, Pseudomonas diminuta and Pseudomonas D2 isolated from of low-salt fermented squid and the growth characteristics of these bacteria during fermentation were elucidated. All bacteria showed good growth during the process of low-salt fermented squid(pH 6~7 ; concentration of NaCl, 7~10% ; temperature, 7~1$0^{\circ}C$) and their cell numbers increased as fermentation proceeded under the same fermentation condition.

공기압에 따른 타이어의 안전성 및 경제성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study of Tire Safety & Economical Efficiency with Respect to Inflation Pressure)

  • Many vehicles have significantly under-inflated tires, primarily because drivers infrequently check their vehicles' tire pressure. When a tire is used while significantly under-inflated, its sidewalls flex more and the tire temperature increases, increasing stress and the risk of failure. In this study we evaluated tire safety and economical efficiency at various inflation pressure. For tire safety we performed FMVSS indoor durability test, measurement of rolling tire temperature, braking performance at dry/wet road condition, and rolling resistance test for economical efficiency. Results show that low pressure decreases tire durability of both speed-increase condition and load-increase condition. Heat temperature of rolling tire increases as pressure decreases and significantly under-inflated tires cause increase of vehicle's stopping distance at wet road condition. Also Under-inflation increases the rolling resistance of a tire and, correspondingly, decreases vehicle's fuel economy.

  • It has been recognized that the mechanical properties of structural steels can be accepted very greatly in a state of normal temperature. While, under low temperature conditions the properties of the structural steels may not be appropriately achieved. When the various and particular structures will be constructed in an intense cold region afterward, the mechanical properties of a stainless steel under low temperature condition must be investigated. The purpose of this paper is to account for the fracture mechanics of structures in the state of low temperatures. The fracture toughness was examined through an experimental test from which the tensile strength and impact values of STS 304 were obtained. In order to demonstrate the present studies, the fracture toughness was compared with the test results for SWS 50 published previously by an author.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of alloying and rolling condition on the mechanical properties and to develop high strength line pipe steels with good toughness. Tests were carried out by the laboratory experiments followed by mill trials and mass production. It was found that a small addition of microalloying elements, such as Nb, V with Mo or Ti remarkably increased the strength and toughness of hot strips. The optimum condition of thermomechanical rolling on low carbon microalloyed steel improved the toughness through the formation of a fine and uniform microstructure. Based on this mill trials following the fundamental research, the production technology of line pipe steels, grade X70∼X100 with high toughness, has been established. These grade steels exhibit excellent low temperature toughness (vTs= under -80$^{\circ}C$) and sufficient strength in both the base metal and the ERW seam weld position, respectively.

저순도 알루미나 세라믹 예비소결체의 선삭에서 공구 마멸에 미치는 절삭 조건의 영향 (Effect of Cutting Condition on the Tool Wear in Turning of the Presintered Low Purity Alumina Ceramics)

  • In this study, presintered low purity alumina ceramics were machined with various tools to clarify the effects of the tool material, cutting condition and tool geometry on machinability. The main conclusions obtained were as follows. (a)The wear of tungsten carbide tool becomes smaller with the increase of the feed and clearance angle, and with the decrease of rake angle, especially exhibiting considerably smaller wear with both the decrease of rake angle and the increase of clearance angle. (b) So far as turning the ceramic presintered at low temperature, the diamond tool shows the best performance with higher feed. (c) The effect on the tool wear of the feed, clearance angle and rake angle becomes smaller in turning the ceramic presintered at higher temperature. (d) The tool wear is not severely affected by the depth of cut.

실해역 환경에서 생물부착에 관한 기초실험 연구 (Preliminary Experimental Study on Biofouling in Real Sea Environment)

  • A flow and low temperature of deep seawater the biofouling properties in a seawater environment of different materials, such as a steel pipe, polyethylene pipe, and nylon net, used for ocean industries. Experiments in a real sea environment were performed to grasp the quantitative and qualitative biofouling from diatoms attached to materials by measuring the Chlorophyll-a density. Experimental samples were placed under five types of ocean environmental conditions and analyzed every month for five months. It is shown that the biofouling by diatoms was strongly affected by the seawater temperature for all of the experimental samples. It was found that diatoms mainly adhered to the nylon net, while crustaceans prefer polyethylene, under a high temperature condition. It is believed that the biofouling properties are strongly related to the surface roughness of a material. The biofouling under the low temperature condition of deep seawater was rare and stable for the experimental periods. The inside of a pipe conveying deep seawater can be presumed to remain clear without biofouling on the condition of a flow and low temperature of deep seawater.

저온환경에 노출된 시멘트 경화체의 황산염침식 저항성 및 미세구조적 조사 (Sulfate Attack Resistance and Microstructural Observations of Cement Matrix Exposed to a Low Temperature Condition)

  • 이 연구는 보통포틀랜드시멘트로 제조된 모르타르 및 페이스트 샘플의 황산염침식 저항성을 평가하기 위하여 수행되었다. 주요 실험변수는 사용된 황산염용액의 온도조건으로써, 각각 $4^{\circ}C$, $10^{\circ}C$$20^{\circ}C$로 유지된 5% 황산나트륨 용액에 침지한 모르타르의 침지재령별 팽창, 압축강도 및 휨강도를 측정 한 후, 황산염침식 저항성을 평가하였다. 뿐만 아니라, XRD, DSC 및 SEM/EDS와 같은 기기분석 기법을 이용하여 저온환경에 노출된 페이스트 샘플 중에 생성된 반응생성물 조사 및 미세구조 분석도 아울러 실시하였다. 실험 결과에 의하면, 황산염침식에 의한 모르타르의 성능 저하는 시험용액 온도에 매우 의존적으로 나타났으며, 특히, 저온환경에서는 쏘마싸이트의 생성으로 인한 성능 저하가 매우 극심하게 나타남을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서, 저온의 황산염환경에 콘크리트구조물이 노출될 경우 세심한 주의가 요구된다.
