On the Need for Efficient Load Balancing in Large-scale RPL Networks with Multi-Sink Topologies

  • Low-power and Lossy Networks (LLNs) have become the common network infrastructure for a wide scope of Internet of Things (IoT) applications. For efficient routing in LLNs, IETF provides a standard solution, namely the IPv6 Routing Protocol for LLNs (RPL). It enables effective interconnectivity with IP networks and flexibly can meet the different application requirements of IoT deployments. However, it still suffers from different open issues, particularly in large-scale setups. These include the node unreachability problem which leads to increasing routing losses at RPL sink nodes. It is a result of the event of memory overflow at LLNs devices due to their limited hardware capabilities. Although this can be alleviated by the establishment of multi-sink topologies, RPL still lacks the support for effective load balancing among multiple sinks. In this paper, we address the need for an efficient multi-sink load balancing solution to enhance the performance of PRL in large-scale scenarios and alleviate the node unreachability problem. We propose a new RPL objective function, Multi-Sink Load Balancing Objective Function (MSLBOF), and introduce the Memory Utilization metrics. MSLBOF enables each RPL node to perform optimal sink selection in a way that insure better memory utilization and effective load balancing. Evaluation results demonstrate the efficiency of MSLBOF in decreasing packet loss and enhancing network stability, compared to MRHOF in standard RPL.

저전력 내장형 시스템을 위한 부하의 전력 소모 에뮬레이션 시스템과 응용 (A Load Emulator for Low-power Embedded Systems and Its Application)

  • 내장형 시스템의 DC-DC 변환기나 배터리의 효율은 시스템을 구성하는 디바이스들의 종류 및 다양한 동작 패턴에 따른 전류의 시간적인 변화에 영향을 받는다. 이러한 특성은 DC-DC 변환기나 배터리의 효율을 분석하기 위해서는 다양한 부하를 가지는 실제 시스템을 구현, 응용프로그램을 수행하고, 배터리와 DC-DC 변환기를 포함한 전원 공급 회로를 연결하여 실제로 전력 소모를 측정할 것을 요구하지만, 이와 같이 실제 시스템을 구현한다는 것은 엄청난 개발 시간과 비용을 요구한다. 본 논문에서는 부하들의 전력 소모를 측정에 의해 얻어 저장하고 전원 공급 회로로부터 실제 시스템의 부하처럼 전력을 소모하도록 에뮬레이션 해줄 수 있는 시스템을 구현하였다. 구현한 부하 에뮬레이터(load emulator)는 측정한 전력 소모 프로파일의 양을 줄이기 위해 패턴 인식 후 압축하는 알고리즘을 사용하며, 저속 대용량 능동부하(active load)와 고속 소용량 능동부하들로 이루어진 비대칭(heterogeneous) 구조로 구현함으로써 전력 소모의 양이 많고 전력 소모가 신속하게 변하는 디지털 시스템의 부하를 에뮬레이션 할 수 있게 해준다. 구현한 부하 에뮬레이터의 성능을 평가하기 위해 하드디스크의 전력 소모를 측정 및 재생하여 비교하며, 부하 에뮬레이터의 응용으로써 부하의 전력 소모 패턴에 따른 DC-DC 변환기의 효율을 검토해 보았다.

소형 어선용 디젤기관에서의 연료유 성상에 따른 배기배출물 특성에 관한 연구 (An experimental study on characteristics of exhaust emissions with fuel properties changes in a diesel engine for small-sized fishing vessel)

  • In order to test the applicability of bunker-A in a diesel engine for small-fishing boat, the investigation of the engine performance and the exhaust emission was performed under various conditions of fuel property, intake air pressure and fuel temperature. It was also performed based on IMO NOx Technical code. At high load, the energy consumption rate of bunker-A was lower than that of diesel oil, and the characteristics of exhaust emission of bunker-A were similar to those, and NOx emission rates of both fuels satisfied the IMO NOx emission regulation limits. The energy consumption rate and characteristics of exhaust emission were improved as the intake air pressure was increased, but these were not improved remarkably as the temperature of bunker-A was heated. However, at low load the energy consumption rate, CO emission rate and HC emission rate of bunker-A were higher than those of diesel oil, but NOx emission rates of the fuels were about the same. In addition, at low load the energy consumption rate and CO emission rate of bunker-A were increased as the intake air pressure and the temperature were higher than normal conditions. Accordingly, it is thought that the use of bunker-A in a kind of test engine is possible at high load. On the other hand, it is thought that more research is needed to improve the combustion efficiency under low temperature and low load condition.

A Study on Effective Enhancement of Load Power Factor Using the Load Power Factor Sensitivity of Generation Cost

  • Various problems such as increase of power loss and voltage instability may often occur in the case of low load power factor. The demand of reactive power increases continuously with the growth of active power and restructuring of electric power companies makes the comprehensive management of reactive power a troublesome problem, so that the systematic control of load power factor is required. In this paper, the load power factor sensitivity of generation cost is derived and it is used for effectively determining the locations of reactive power compensation devices and for enhancing the load power factor appropriately. In addition, voltage variation penalty cost is introduced and integrated costs including voltage variation penalty cost are used for determining the value of load power factor from the point of view of economic investment and voltage regulation. It is shown through application to a large-scale power system that the load power factor can be enhanced effectively using the load power factor sensitivity and the integrated cost.

  • Recently, Stirling engines are emerging as a key device for power conversion of renewable energy or waste energy. This study develops a LTDSE(Low Temperature Differential Stirling Engine) using a water spray for higher heat transfer and performs load performance tests for various flow rates and temperatures of hot water spray for variable engine loads emulated by a mechanical friction device. Internal temperature and pressure, working frequency and inlet and outlet temperature of the supply water are measured. As a result, the increases in flow rate and temperature of hot water respectively enhance the power output, efficiency and the working frequency, while the increasing engine load leads to decreases in working frequency but increases in the pressure amplitude. Eventually, it is revealed there exists a maximum shaft power of the test engine.

Damage of scarf-repaired composite laminates subjected to low-velocity impacts

  • The damage characters of scarf repaired composite laminates subjected to low-velocity impact with various energy levels at different locations are studied experimentally. The results are compared with those of the original laminates which have no initial damage and don't need repair. The impact load-time history of the specimens, the velocity-time curves of the impactor, the post impact compressive strength of the specimens and the C-scan photographs of the damaged regions are obtained. The delamination threshold load and damage character of the specimen section at impact point are also studied. The results have shown that the impact response of a repaired composite laminate is sensitive to the location of the impact. The impact load and the delamination threshold load have shown different characters for specimens with different impact locations. The debonding characters of the adhesive and compressive strength after impact of the specimens are also influenced by impact locations.

  • In this study, a low temperature sintering multilayer piezoelectric transformer for a DC-DC converter was manufactured using $(Pb,Ca,Sr,)(Ti,Mn,Sb)O_3$ ceramics. Its electrical properties were investigated according to the variation in frequency and load resistance. The voltage step-up ratio of the multilayer piezoelectric transformer showed a maximum value at a resonant frequency of input part and increased with an increase of load resistance. The efficiency of the multilayer piezoelectric transformer showed the highest value at a load resistance of 17 $\Omega$. The output power was increased with increasing input voltage. Temperature increase of the multilayer piezoelectric transformer was increased with the increase of output power. At the load resistance of 17 $\Omega$, the multilayer piezoelectric transformer showed the temperature rises of about $20^{\circ}C$ at the output power of 18 W, and stable driving characteristics.

발달장애아동의 중증도에 따른 어머니의 요통 빈도 비교 (Comparison of low back pain frequency mother owing to severity of Developmental-children with disability)

  • The purpose of this study would like to analyze statically significant difference for low back-pain frequency of mother after development-disability children. Seven nursery children with disability conducted survey from 122 mothers cared children with disability. Survey data was obtained from April 14. 2006 to May 23. 2006. The results were as follows: According to walking-existence, assistance walking, and disability-degree, low back pain incidence frequency of mothers were statically significant difference, (p<0.05). Low back pain incidence frequency of walker-ability population was 51.4%, but low back pain incidence frequency of walker-disability population was 80.0%. then low back pain incidence frequency of mothers to walking-existence was differed amount. Disabled not statically significant difference to encephalopathy and disability-type1 and disability -type2 (p>0.05). children with disability-degree and assistance walking benchmarked low back pain disability-measure. Low back pain degree not relevancy statically significant. Physical load was statically significant difference between Oswestry's low back pain score and reach effect to child-cared(p<0.05). As development-children with disability of disable degree, Mother appeared to highly low back pain frequency rate and appeared to large reach effect child-cared owing to physical load of low back pain. So hereafter, location and person request to approach with more clinical and objectively. As approach result, it will help to stress solution of children with disability owing to develop to low back pain class and family capable strengthening program and so on.

인지 부하가 분업에 미치는 영향: 작업기억과 결합 사이먼 효과 (Effects of Cognitive Load on the Division of Labor: Working Memory and the Joint Simon Effect)

  • 사회적인 존재로서 우리는 다른 사람의 행위를 빠르고 정확히 이해할 필요가 있다. 행위 이해는 여러 수준에서 일어난다. 무심코 타인의 의도를 알아챌 때가 있는가 하면, 그들의 목적을 추론하기 위해 노력해야만 하는 경우도 있다. 결합 사이먼 효과는 과제를 분업하는 한 쌍의 참가자가 의도치 않게 동료의 행위를 표상할 수 있음을 실험적으로 증명한다. 이 효과는 거의 자동적으로 발생한다고 알려졌지만, 인지부하의 영향을 받지 않을 만큼 자동적인지는 확인되지 않았다. 이에 본 연구는 참가자에게 작업기억 부하가 있거나 없는 상태에서 결합 사이먼 과제를 수행하게 하였다. 이중과제 구획에서 저부하 집단의 참가자들은 한 개의 숫자를 작업기억에 유지한 채로 사이먼 과제를 분업하였고, 고부하 집단의 참가자들은 다섯 개의 숫자를 유지한 채로 사이먼 과제를 분업하였다. 작업기억 부하의 효과를 분석하기 위해 이중과제 구획과 단일과제 구획의 집단별 사이먼 효과를 비교하였다. 반응시간을 분석한 결과, 저부하 집단은 이중과제와 단일과제 구획에서 모두 사이먼 효과를 보였지만, 고부하 집단은 어느 과제 구획에서도 사이먼 효과를 보이지 않았다. 이 결과는 결합 사이먼 효과가 인지 자원에 의존한다는 면에서 자동적인 현상을 아님을 의미한다. 즉, 분업 참여자는 인지적 자원이 가용한 경우에만 동료의 행위를 과제 표상에 반영하는 것으로 보인다.

고차 변조를 사용하는 Load-Modulation MIMO 시스템 설계와 성능 평가 (Design and Performance Evaluation of Load-Modulation MIMO System Using High-Order Modulation)

  • 본 논문에서는 단일 RF 단을 사용하여 다중 스트림을 전송할 수 있는 LM-MIMO (load-modulation multiple-input multiple-output) 시스템에 대하여 알아보고, 이 시스템에서 사용하는 부하변조 (load modulation) 방법이 고차 m-PSK (phase shift keying) 심볼이나 고차 m-QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) 심볼을 효과적으로 생성할 수 있는지 확인한다. 그리고 부하변조를 사용하는 LM-MIMO 시스템의 성능을 평가한다. LM-MIMO 시스템은 안테나가 확장되어도 단일 RF 단만을 요구하기 때문에 저복잡도, 저전력의 시스템 구성을 할 수 있다. 시뮬레이션의 결과를 살펴보면, T 모델 (model)을 사용하는 부하변조는 고차 m-PSK 변조와 고차 m-QAM 변조를 효과적으로 지원할 수 있다. 또한 부하변조를 사용하는 LM-MIMO 시스템이 기존의 이상적인 m-PSK나 m-QAM 변조를 사용하는 MIMO 시스템과 유사한 성능을 낼 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 $4{\times}4$ LM-MIMO 시스템이 기존의 $4{\times}4$ MIMO 시스템과 유사한 성능을 내는 것을 확인하였다.
