A three-dimensional computation was conducted to understand effects of the inlet boundary layer thickness on the loss mechanism in a low-speed axial compressor operating at the design condition(${\phi}=85\%$) and near stall condition(${\phi}=65\%$). At the design condition, the flow phenomena such as the tip leakage flow and hub comer stall are similar independent of the inlet boundary layer thickness. However, when the axial compressor is operating at the near stall condition, the large separation on the suction surface near the casing is induced by the tip leakage flow and the boundary layer on the blade for thin inlet boundary layer but the hub corner stall is enlarged for thick inlet boundary layer. These differences of internal flows induced by change of the boundary layer thickness on the casing and hub enable loss distributions of total pressure to be altered. When the axial compressor has thin inlet boundary layer, the total pressure loss is increased at regions near both casing and tip but decreased in the core flow region. In order to analyze effects of inlet boundary layer thickness on total loss in detail, using Denton's loss models, total loss is scrutinized through three major loss categories in a subsonic axial compressor such as profile loss, tip leakage loss and endwall loss.
The flow characteristics in the blade passage and in the wake region of a low speed axial flow fan have been investigated by experimental analysis using a rotating hot-wire sensor for design and off-design operating conditions. The results show that the tip leakage vortex is moved upstream when flow rate is decreased, thus disturbing the formation of wake flow near the rotor tip. The tip leakage vortex interfaces with blade pressure surface, and results in high velocity fluctuation near the pressure surface. From axial velocity distributions downstream of the fan rotor, large axial velocity decay near the rotor tip is observed at near stall condition, which results in large blockage compared to that at the design condition. Although the wake flow downstream of the rotor blade is clearly measured at all operating conditions, the trough of the high velocity fluctuation due to Karmann vortex street in the wake flow is mainly observed at a higher flow condition than the design flow rate.
A study to improve the accuracy of a map-based compressor model with experiment was performed. Corrections on the effects of suction gas superheat and heat leakage from a compressor shell are required to apply the compressor amp model based on the empirical performance data(map) of compressor manufacturers to the actual system. So experiments to assess the effects of superheat and hat leakage were performed and the corrected equations were made. Compressors and refrigerant used in the experiment were the high pressure type rotary compressor and R-22, experiments were performed by compressor calorimeter. From the experiment, a volumetric efficiency correction factor$(F_ν)$ showed the value of 0.77, slightly higher than 0.75 proposed by Dabiri and Rice for low pressure type reciprocating compressor, and the heat leakage from the compressor shell turned out to be a factor that influenced the discharged mass flow rate. The relation between heat leakage of compressor shell and the variation of discharged mass flow rate from compressor was considered in compressor map modeling as an empirical function. With this function, the prediction accuracy of compressor model in system conditions was improved.
In these days, the silicone insulators have been increasingly studied and applied for outdoor insulators because it has superior characteristics than porcelain and glass insulators, which have been used for outdoor insulators. First of all, The excellent performance of the silicone rubber in polluted and wet conditions is attributed to the ability of the material to maintain the hydrophobicity of the surface in the presence of severe contamination and wet conditions. This is because of the presence of low molecular weight mobile fluid in the silicone rubber which diffuses to the surface and to above the contamination layer. But, the leakage current and some surface discharge occurs on surface of the composite polymeric insulation materials when the insulator is used for a long time with severe contaminative condition and it can lead the contamination flashover. So the leakage current and the discharge current are important to estimate the condition of the silicone rubber surface. In this paper, the average leakage current, the relation of surface discharge current and phase angle were study to investigate electrical conduction of silicone rubber surface with the salt fog condition.
The fracture analysis of $SiN_x$ layers, which were deposited by low-temperature plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (LT-PECVD) and could be used for an encapsulation layer of a flexible organic light emitting display (OLED), was performed by an electrical method. The specimens of metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structure were prepared using Pt and ITO electrodes. We stressed MIM specimen mechanically by bending outward with a bending radius of 15mm repeatedly and measured leakage current through the top and bottom electrodes. We also observed the cracks, were generated on surface, by using optical microscope. Once the cracks were initiated, the leakage current started to flow. As the amount of cracks increased, the leakage current was also increased. By correlating the electrical leakage current in the MIM specimen with the bending times, the amount of cracks in the encapsulation layer, generated during the bending process, was quantitatively estimated and fracture behavior of the encapsulation layer was also closely investigated.
This review begins with a brief expression of aerosol capture mechanism of fibrous filter(s) and performance of particulate removing respirators. The more complicated and detailed discussion is not included in this articles. Filtration efficiency and pressure drop are introduced as quality factor ( $q_{F}$) and the way in which filtration efficiency varies with particle size is discussed. Quality factors fro filters recently certified in USA were found to be very higher than those of filters made in Korea, China and USA filters certified with old certified standards. Electrically charged filters are widely used because they have high filtration efficiency and low pressure drop, but their efficiency decreases sharply at the condition occurring wet and oil mist. A discussion is given of respirator leakage through face seal and filter media with fit testing and total inward leakage testing. Since fit factor (FF) refers to the reciprocal of the fraction of the total air entering a respirator through face seal leakage , the degree of fitting performance for respirators is expected with FF. Because respirators made in Korea had generally lower FFs than respirators made in USA, it is necessary to develope respirators that fit properly for Koreans or establish regulations for fit testing.g.
The main problem in porcelain as a high voltage insulator is that the water film is felled on the insulator surface due to rain, flog, and dew. In the presence of contamination. leakage current increases which may lead to flashover that could be followed by an outage of the power system. These days, high voltage polymer outdoer insulators have been studied and widely used, because they have excellent electrical and mechanical properties, superior performance of flashover for contamination. light weight, easy installation or handling. no maintenance during service, competitive price, and so on. First of a1l the excellent performance of the silicone rubber in polluted and wet conditions is attributed to the ability of the material to maintain the hydrophobicity of the surface in the presence of severe contaminants and wet conditions. This is due to a low surface energy of the silicone rubber. But the leakage current and some surface discharge occurs on the surface of insulator when the insulator is used for a long time. So the leakage current and the surface discharge current are important lo estimate the condition of the silicone rubber surface. In this paper, the average leakage current the surface discharge current the surface rubber surface with the salt fog condition for the first stage.
The first attention in designing a transformer for low temperature rise should be to reduce losses. Leakage inductance and temperature rise are two of the more impotent problems facing the magnetic core technology of today's high frequency transformers. Excessive leakage inductance increases the stress on the switching transistors and limits the duty-cycle, and excessive temperature rise can lead the design limitation of high frequency transformer with high current. The flat transformer technology provides a very good solution to the problems of leakage inductance and thermal management for high frequency power. The critical magnetic components and windings are optimized and packaged within a completely assembled module. The turns ratio in a flat transformer is determined as the product of the number of elements or modules times the number of primary turns. The leakage inductance increase proportionately to the number of elements, but since it is reduced as the square of the turns, the net reduction can be very significant. The flat transformer modules use cores which have no gap. This eliminates fringing fluxes and stray flux outside of the core. The secondary windings are formed of flat metal and are bonded to the inside surface of the core. The secondary winding thus surrounds the primary winding, so nearly all of the flux is captured.
A mechanical face seal is a tribo-element intended to control leakage of working fluid at the interface between a rotating shaft and its housing. Leakage of working fluid decreases drastically as the clearance of the mating seal faces gets smaller. But the very small seal clearance results in an increased reduction of seal life because of high wear and heat generation. Therefore, in the design of mechanical face seals a compromise between low leakage and acceptable seal life is important, and it presents a difficult and practical design problem. A fluid film or sealing dam geometry of the seal clearance affects seal lubrication performance very much, and thereby it is one of the main design considerations. In this study the Reynolds equation for the sealing dam of mechanical face seals is numerically analyzed, using the Galerkin finite element method, which is readily applied to various seal geometries. Film pressures of the sealing dam are analyzed, including the effects of the seal face coning and tilt. Then, lubrication performances of the seals, such as opening forces, restoring moments, leakage, and dynamic coefficients, are calculated, and they are compared to the results obtained by the narrow seal approximation.
This study purposes to derive the predictive model for the cold tolerance of Brassica napus, using the data collected in the Tree Breeding Lab of Gyeongsang National University during July and August of 2016. Three Brassica napus samples were treated at each of low temperatures from $4^{\circ}C$ to $-12^{\circ}C$ by decrement of $4^{\circ}C$, step by step, and electrolyte leakage levels were measured at each stage. Electrolyte leakages were observed tangibly from $-4^{\circ}C$. We tried to fit the six nonlinear regression models to the electrolyte leakage data of Brassica napus: 3-parameter logistic model, baseline logistic model, 4-parameter logistic model, (4-1)-parameter logistic model, 3-parameter Gompertz model, and (3-1)-parameter Gompertz model. The baseline levels of the electrolyte leakage estimated by these models were 4.81%, 4.07%, 4.19%, 4.07%, 4.55%, and 0%, respectively. The estimated median lethal temperature, LT50, were $-5.87^{\circ}C$, $-6.31^{\circ}C$, $-6.05^{\circ}C$, $-6.35^{\circ}C$, $-4.98^{\circ}C$, and $-5.15^{\circ}C$, respectively. We compared and discussed the measures of goodness of fit to select the appropriate nonlinear regression model.
