Digital Video Scrambling Methods using Motion Vector and Intra Prediction Mode (움직임 벡터와 인트라 예측 모드를 이용한 디지털 비디오 스크램블링 방법)

  • In this paper, two digital video scrambling methods are proposed as simple means of the digital content protection techniques. One is inter block scrambling using motion vector, the other is intra block scrambling using intra prediction mode. The proposed inter block scrambling method distorts the original sequences by swapping horizontal and vertical components of motion vector. This method can be applied on most common video coding techniques such as MPEG-1, 2, 4, H.264, etc. The proposed intra block scrambling method distorts the original sequences by modifying intra prediction mode that is property of H.254 video coding technique. Both methods do not cause my bit rate increase after scrambling. Moreover, they have low complexity because they need only simple operation like XOR. Especially, the proposed intra block scrambling does not distort inter blocks directly. But inter blocks are distorted by error propagation effect as much as intra blocks. This paper introduces two new digital video scrambling method and verifies its effectiveness through simulation.

Motion estimation method using multiple linear regression model (다중선형회귀모델을 이용한 움직임 추정방법)

  • Given the small bit allocation for motion information in very low bit-rate coding, motion estimation using the block matching algorithm(BMA) fails to maintain an acceptable level of prediction errors. The reson is that the motion model, or spatial transformation, assumed in block matching cannot approximate the motion in the real world precisely with a small number of parameters. In order to overcome the drawback of the conventional block matching algorithm, several triangle-based methods which utilize triangular patches insead of blocks have been proposed. To estimate the motions of image sequences, these methods usually have been based on the combination of optical flow equation, affine transform, and iteration. But the compuataional cost of these methods is expensive. This paper presents a fast motion estimation algorithm using a multiple linear regression model to solve the defects of the BMA and the triange-based methods. After describing the basic 2-D triangle-based method, the details of the proposed multiple linear regression model are presented along with the motion estimation results from one standard video sequence, representative of MPEG-4 class A data. The simulationresuls show that in the proposed method, the average PSNR is improved about 1.24 dB in comparison with the BMA method, and the computational cost is reduced about 25% in comparison with the 2-D triangle-based method.

  • The main purpose of rate control is to achieve the highest video quality when bandwidth or storage capacity is limited. For this purpose, we need a rate control algorithm which is adaptively controlled by the motion information of sequences, scene change, buffer capacity and time-varing bandwitdh channels. A rate-control method in the encoder requires the accurate estimation of target bit for each frame and the low end-to-end delay for transmitting video data by intelligent selection of encoding parameters. In this paper, we suggest three kinds of linear relation in the encoder to satisfy the characteristics of rate control. The first relation is that between the percentage of zero quantized transformed coefficients(p) and coded bits. Second relation is that between the PSNR of encoded frame and its Quantization parameter(QP). Finally, we can find out a linear approximation between QP and p. According to the experimental analysis, the proposed method results in an efficient rate control in terms of the bit estimation, the buffer capacity, and PSNR compared with the existing rate control in the H.264 JM 9.3.

Object-based Stereoscopic Video Coding Using Image Segmentation and Prediction (영역분할 및 예측을 통한 객체기반 스테레오 동영상 부호화)

  • Object-based stereoscopic video coding scheme is presented in this paper. In conventional BMA based stereoscopic video coding for low bit rate transmission, image prediction errors such as block artifacts and mosquito phenomena are occurred. In order to reduce these errors, object based coding scheme is adopted. The proposed scheme consists of preprocessing, object extraction, and object update procedures. The preprocessing procedure extracts non-object regions having low reliability for motion and disparity estimation. This procedure prohibits extracting inaccurate objects. For the better prediction of left channel image, the disparity information is added to the object extraction. And the proposed algorithm can reduce the accumulated error through the object update procedure that detects newly emerging objects, merges objects that have the same object-disparity and object motion, and splits object which has large image prediction error. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithms improve the quality of the prediction without block artifacts and mosquito phenomena.

A Block Based Temporal Segmentation Algorithm for Motion Pictures (동영상의 시간적 블록기반 영상분할 알고리즘)

  • For the object-based video compression at very low bit rate, vieo segmentation is an essential part. In this paper, we propose a temporal video segmentation algorithms for motion pictures which is based on blocks. The algorithm is composed of three steps: (1) the change-detection, (2) the block merging, and (3) the block segmentation. The first step separates the change-detected region from background. Here, a new method for removing the uncovered region without motion estimation is presented. The second step, which is further divided into three substeps, estimates motions for the change-detected region and merges blocks with similar motions. The merging conditions for each substep as criteria are also given. The final step, the block segmentation, segments the boundary block that is excluded from the second step on a pixel basis. After describing our algorithm in detail, several experimental results along the processing order are shown step by step. The results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm removes the uncovered region effectively and produced objects that are segmented well.

  • We propose a novel algorithm for fractal video sequence coding, based on the circular prediction mapping (CPM), in which each range block is approximated by a domain block in the circularly previous frame. In our approach, the size of the domain block is set to be same as that of the range block for exploiting the high temporal correlation between the adjacent frames, while most other fractal coders use the domain block larger than the range block. Therefore the domain-range mapping in the CPM is similar to the block matching algorithm in the motion compensation techniques, and the advantages of this similarity are discussed. Also we show that the CPM can be combined with non-contractive inter-frame mapping (NCIM), improving the performance of the fractal sequence coder further. The computer simulation results on real image sequences demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides very promising performance at low bit-rate, ranging from 40 Kbps to 250 Kbps.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel modulation scheme specialized in real time broadcast system using a multicopter. Since multicopters have many advantages in aerial photography, they have been widely used in broadcasting technologies. However, because of restrictions on flight time, it is difficult to utilize multicopters in real time broadcasting systems. Therefore, video transmission using multicopter is necessary for low power communication techniques in air channel environment. Performance results of the hybrid modulation in this paper are compared to that of conventional modulations with Bit Error Rate (BER) and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) simulations. The results also showed that proposed system is suitable for aerial photography. Experiments demonstrated the superiority of the proposed modulation scheme by showing received symbols through an USRP equipment.

Fast Mode Decision Algorithm for H.264 using Mode Classification (H.264 표준에서 모드 분류를 이용한 고속 모드결정 방법)

  • H.264 is a new international video coding standard that can achieve considerably higher coding efficiency than conventional standards. Its coding gain has been achieved by employing advanced video coding methods. Specially, the increased number of macroblock modes and the complex mode decision procedure using the Lagrangian optimization are the main factors for increasing coding efficiency. Although H.264 obtains improved coding efficiency, it is difficult to do an real-time encoding because it considers all coding parameters in the mode decision procedure. In this paper, we propose a fast mode decision algorithm which classifies the macroblock modes in order to determine the optimal mode having low complexity quickly. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the encoding time by 34.95% on average without significant PSNR degradation or bit-rate increment. In addition, in order to show the validity of simulation results, we set up a low boundary condition for coding efficiency and complexity and show that the proposed algorithm satisfies the low boundary condition.

  • 본 논문에서는, 이산 웨이블릿 변환(DWT: discrete wavelet transform)에 기초한 저속 비트율 비디오 코딩 방법의 알고리즘으로써, PZTACC 방법을 제안한다. 접근 방법은 양자화된 웨이블릿 계수들이 웨이블릿 서브밴드 구조내에서 중복성을 활용하는 메커니즘에 의해서 전처리 된다면 코딩 절차가 더욱 효과적으로 작용하여 나타난다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 partitioning, Zero-Tree aggregation, 조건적 코딩의 개념들을 기초로 하는 프리코딩 기법의 새로운 구조를 소개한다. 복원된 비디오의 주관적인 성능은 일반적으로 MPEG4의 VM 구현으로부터 획득된 성능(1.5 dB PSNR 이상)보다 우수하다. 게다가, 인트라프레임모드에 제한되어 있을 때, 제안된 코딩 알고리즘은 정지영상 압축에 대하여 최고로 보고되는 결과를 산출한다.

Deblocking Method Based on Mode Classification in the Low Bit-Rate Real-Time Video Coding (저비트율 실시간 비디오 압축에서의 모드구분에 기반한 블록킹 효과 제거 기법)

  • 일반적으로 블록기반의 동영상 압축방식은 블록킹효과를 필연적으로 수반한다. 특히 저비트율의 동영상에서는 블록킹 효과가 다른 어떤 영상의 왜곡보다 많이 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 블록킹효과를 효율적으로 인간 시각체계에 적합하게 실시간으로 제거하는 후처리 알고리즘을 제안한다. 우선 복원된 영상에서 인간의 시각체계와 동영상의 특성에 따라 3가지의 모드로 분리하여 QP(quantization Parameter)에 따라 임계치를 변화함으로써 각 모드의 필터링 범위를 가변시켰다. 이후에 각 모드에 알맞은 일차원 및 적응형 필터링을 적용한다. 적용된 모드별 필터링은 과도한 블러링 현상을 방지하고 영상내의 실제 에지성분읓 보호하면서 효과적으로 블록킹효과를 제거한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 알고리즘을 실험 영상에 적용하였을 경우에 주관적 화질 및 객관적 화질인 PSNR로 0.5dB 정도 향상되었다.
