This paper describes the method for detection of the misfired cylinder by analysis of the variation of pressure occurred in exhaust manifold on an MPI gasoline engine. Misfired cylinder(s) cause a loss of power, an increase of fuel consumption and exhaust emission and vibration is caused by unsteady torque. Therefore early detection and correction of misfired cylinder(s) play a very important role in the proper performance and the exhaust emission. The method is a comparison of integration pressure index during the period of a blowdown in the displacement period. Experimental results showed that the method, using the variation of pressure in the exhaust manifold is proven to be effective in the detection of single cylinder or multiple cylinders misfire on the gasoline engine regardless of the engine revolutions. In addition, this method, using the variation of pressure in the exhaust manifold is a very easy and accurate method compared with other methods.

In parameter design introduced by Taguchi, we analyze a signal-to-noise(SN) ratio. The SN ratio is a function of the expected loss due to the variation of quality characteristic. In this paper, an easy way for developing SN ratios is presented, which can be used to several quality characteristics simultaneously in parameter design. To develop such multivariate SN ratios, the transformation method of the expected loss and combining techniques are employed. And the analysis of real empirical data for an application of the proposed method is also presented.
In parameter design introduced by Taguchi, we analyze a performance measure, so called SN ratio. The SN ratio is a function of the expected loss due to the variation of quality characteristic. In this paper, an easy way for developing performance measures is presented, which can be used to control several quality characteristics simultaneously in parameter design. To develop such multivariate performance measures, the transformation method of the expected loss and combining techniques are employed. And the analysis of real empirical data for an application of the proposed method is also presented.
AC loss on variation of external magnetic field is a very important factor in development of power applications. In this paper, we measured and compared AC loss of hybrid-multi stacked wire made of the combination of 1G wires and 2G wires and uniform-multi-stacked wire made of one type of wires, 1G wires or 2G wires. Measurement was performed using by the linked-picked coil method. As results, as the number of wires increase, AC loss per unit volume of both stacked wires in low external magnetic field is reduced. Also AC loss of 2G slacked wire is higher than that of 1G wire. AC loss per unit length of 2G stacked wire is less than that of 1G stacked wire. And AC loss of hybrid-multi stacked wire made of the combination of 1G wires and 2G wires was between uniform-multi-stacked wire made of 1G wires and 2G wires.
AMR (Active Magnetic Regenerative) refrigerators require the large variation of the magnetic field and a HTS magnet can be used. The amount of AC loss is very important considering the overall efficiency of the AMR refrigerator. However, it is very hard to estimate the precise loss of the HTS magnet because the magnetic field distribution around the conductor itself depends on the coil configuration and the neighboring HTS wires interact each other through the distorted magnetic field by the screening current Therefore, the AC loss of HTS magnet should be calculated using the whole configuration of the HTS magnet with superconducting characteristic. This paper describes the AC loss of the HTS magnet by an appropriate FEM approach, which uses the non-linear characteristic of HTS conductor. The analysis model is based on the 2-D FEM model, called as 'magnetic field formulation and edge-element model', for whole coil configuration in cylindrical coordinates. The effects of transport current and stacked conductors on the AC loss are investigated considering the field-dependent critical current. The PDE model of 'Comsol multiphysics' is used for the FEM analysis with properly implemented equations for axisymmetric model.
For the safety of prestressed structures such as cable-stayed bridges and prestressed concrete bridges, it is very important to ensure the prestress force of cable or tendon. The loss of prestress force could significantly reduce load carrying capacity of the structure and even result in structural collapse. The objective of this study is to present a smart PZT-interface for wireless impedance-based prestress-loss monitoring in tendon-anchorage connection. Firstly, a smart PZT-interface is newly designed for sensitively monitoring of electro-mechanical impedance changes in tendon-anchorage subsystem. To analyze the effect of prestress force, an analytical model of tendon-anchorage is described regarding to the relationship between prestress force and structural parameters of the anchorage contact region. Based on the analytical model, an impedance-based method for monitoring of prestress-loss is conducted using the impedance-sensitive PZT-interface. Secondly, wireless impedance sensor node working on Imote2 platforms, which is interacted with the smart PZT-interface, is outlined. Finally, experiment on a lab-scale tendon-anchorage of a prestressed concrete girder is conducted to evaluate the performance of the smart PZT-interface along with the wireless impedance sensor node on prestress-loss detection. Frequency shift and cross correlation deviation of impedance signature are utilized to estimate impedance variation due to prestress-loss.

The ground motions of large dimensional structures such as long span bridges at different stations during an earthquake, are inevitably different, which is known as the ground motion spatial variation effect. There are many causes that may result in the spatial variability in seismic ground motion, e.g., the wave passage effect due to the different arrival times of waves at different locations; the loss of coherency due to seismic waves scattering in the heterogeneous medium of the ground; the site amplification effect owing to different local soil properties. In previous researches, the site amplification effects have not been considered or considered by a single-layered soil model only. In this study, however, the ground motion amplification and filtering effects are evaluated by multi-layered soil model. Spatially varying ground motion at the sites with different number of layers, depths, and soil characteristics are generated and the variation characteristics of ground motion time histories according to the correlation of coherency loss function and soil conditions are evaluated. For the bridge system composed of two unit bridges, seismic behavior characteristics are analyzed using the generated seismic waves as input ground motion. Especially, relative displacement due to coherency loss and site effect which can cause the unseating and pounding between girders are evaluated. As a result, considering the soil conditions of each site are always important and should not be neglected for an accurate structural response analysis.
This paper analyzed the power loss of transformers considering the magnetic component. For this, each winding strategy and the effect of air gap between the ferrite core have been an important variable for optimal parameter calculation. Inductors are very well known design rules to devise, but the performance of the flyback converter as a function of transformer winding strategy has not been fully developed. The transformer analysis tool used was PExpert. The influence of the insulator thickness, effect of the air gap, how the window height and variation of the capacitive value effects the coil and insulator materials are some of parameters that have been analyzed in this work. The parameter analysis is calculated to a high frequency of 48[kHz]. Therefore, the final goal of this paper was to calculate and adjust the parameters according to the method of winding array and air gap minimizing the power loss.
A rectangular fin with variable fin height, fin length and surrounding temperature is analyzed using a one-dimensional analytical method. Both the heat loss from a rectangular fin with non-insulated fin tip and that with insulated fin tip are presented as a function of the fin height, fin tip length and the convection characteristic number. The relative error in the heat loss of these two cases is also given as a function of the same variables. One of the results shows that the trend of heat loss for both cases with the variation of given variables is similar even though the relative error increases as the shape of the fin becomes shorter and fatter.

Exponential L$\acute{e}$evy models have become popular in modeling price processes recently in mathematical finance. Although it is a relatively simple extension of the geometric Brownian motion, it makes the market incomplete so that the option price is not uniquely determined. As a trial to find an appropriate price for an option, we suppose a situation where a hedger wants to initially invest as little as possible, but wants to have the expected squared loss at the end not exceeding a certain constant. For this, we assume that the underlying price process follows a variance-gamma model and it converges to a geometric Brownian motion as its quadratic variation converges to a constant. In the limit, we use the mean-variance approach to find the asymptotic minimum investment with the expected squared loss bounded. Some numerical results are also provided.
