As climate change and environmental pollution become one of the biggest global issues today, new renewable energy, especially solar photovoltaic (PV) system, is getting great attention as a sustainable energy source. However, initial investment cost of PV system is considerable, and thus, it is crucial to predict electricity generation accurately before installation of the system. This study analyzes the loss ratio of solar photovoltaic electricity generation from the actual PV system monitoring data to predict electricity generation more accurately in advance. This study is carried out with the following five steps: (i) Data collection of actual electricity generation from PV system and the related information; (ii) Calculation of simulation-based electricity generation; (iii) Comparative analysis between actual electricity generation and simulation-based electricity generation based on the seasonality; (iv) Stochastic approach by defining probability distribution of loss ratio between actual electricity generation and simulation-based electricity generation ; and (v) Case study by conducting Monte-Carlo Simulation (MCS) based on the probability distribution function of loss ratio. The results of this study could be used (i) to estimate electricity generation from PV system more accurately before installation of the system, (ii) to establish the optimal maintenance strategy for the different application fields and the different season, and (iii) to conduct feasibility study on investment at the level of life cycle.

It is a serious subject for energy conservation to prevent the energy loss caused by mixing of heated and cooled air jets in a building which two types of air-conditioning systems are adopted in perimeter and interior zone. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the quantitative and qualitative mechanisms of the mixing loss and to propose preventive methods for it. In this paper, by using the dynamic heat load calculation method, heat extraction loads of a typical office building in Pusan are calculated. According to the results, numerical simulation based on the computational fluid dynamics were peformed in order to measure the mixing loss in physical size HVAC system. Then, the distributions of air temperature and velocity are analyzed in order to grasp the relations by setting temperature differences influence on the mixing loss.
This paper introduces the robust design of an intake system using transmission loss and the frequency weighting function. First, transmission loss is measured to evaluate the performance of the noise reduction for the intake system. The robust design parameters of the intake system are extracted by adapting a cost function with the Taguchi method. Subsequently, the frequency weighting function is developed by the subjective evaluation in which 6 special engineers were participated. Finally, the comparison between the proposed frequency weighted optimal design and unweighted optimal design for the transmission loss as the part is performed. Here, the overall levels of the transmission loss according to the methods are presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.
Multimedia content is very sensitive to packet loss and therefore multimedia streams are typically protected against packet loss, either by supporting retransmission requests or by adding redundant forward error correction (FEC) data. However, the redundant FEC information introduces significant additional bandwidth requirements, as compared to the bitrate of the original video stream. Especially on wireless and mobile networks, bandwidth availability is limited and variable. In this article, an adaptive FEC (A-FEC) system is presented whereby the redundancy rate is dynamically adjusted to the packet loss, based on feedback messages from the client. We present a statistical model of our A-FEC system and validate the proposed system under different packet loss conditions and loss probabilities. The experimental results show that 57-95%bandwidth gain can be achieved compared with a static FEC approach.
The accurate distribution of flow rate has been a very important part to control the air change rate since introduction of house ventilation system. An inappropriate selection of fan due to incorrect prediction of pressure loss in duct brings energy loss. In the previous study the pressure loss of general spiral duct was measured and database was constructed for finding correct loss factors in fitting upper stream. The purpose of this study is to compare and investigate the error range of flow rate by applying T-Method to bilateral symmetry and asymmetry layout of duct. The results of this study are as following. It is demanded to decide accurate size under duct design for house ventilation system. Because the small amount of Flow rate was considered at that time. The error range was 3.17% on case1 and 3.52% on case2. The error range difference was 0.35%.
Recently the power system consists of the more complicated structure, due to increase of power demands. In this circumstance, the congestion and loss capacity in transmission line is also increased. Accordingly, the investment planning of transmission system is required to reduce the congestion and loss of the transmission line. This paper proposes a method to compute the congestion and loss costs which are the key elements in economic assessment of the power system planning. And the benefit of market participants in CBP (Cost Based Pool) is computed. To demonstrate the efficient of the suggested methods, these methods are applied to peak load system of 2016 in the 4th Basic plan of Long-Them Electricity Supply and Demand.
This paper describes energy loss in a pipe line of refuse collecting system. Analysis of energy loss in a pipe line is the decisive factor in a design of refuse collecting system. Using the results of energy loss analysis, we can determine the power of turbo-blower. The flow characteristics of the pipe line with refuse bags were analyzed by three-dimensional CFD. The refuse bag is modeled by using the shape obtained from profile measurement. Friction factors were calculated with changing the refuse bag size, mixing ratio and Reynolds number. And drag coefficients were calculated using the CFD results. From the results we can calculate energy loss in a pipe line of refuse collecting system and predict the capacity of turbo-blower.
The ELD computation has been based upon the so-called B-coefficient which uses a quadratic approximation of system loss as a function of generation output. Direct derivation of system loss sensitivity based on the Jacobian-based method was developed in early 1970s', which could eliminate the dependence upon the approximate loss formula. However, both the B-coefficient and the Jacobian-based method require a complicated Procedure for calculating the system loss sensitivity included in the constraints of the optimization problem. In this paper, an ELD formulation in which only the bus power equations are defined as the constraints has been introduced. Derivation of the partial derivatives of the system loss with respect to the generator output and calculation of the penalty factors for individual generators are not required anymore in proposed method. A comprehensive solution procedure including calculation of the Jacobians and Hessians of the formulation has been presented in detail. Proposed ELD formulation has been tested on a sample system and the simulation indicated a satisfactory result.
The efficiency of a powertrain system of hybrid vehicle is highly dependent on the design and control of the hybrid powertrain system. In other words, the optimal design of the powertrain systems is coupled with optimal control of the powertrain system. Therefore, the solution of an optimal design problem for hybrid vehicles is computationally and timely very expensive. For example, dynamic programming, which is a recursive optimization method, is usually used to evaluate the best fuel economy of certain hybrid vehicle design, and, thus, the evaluation takes tens of minutes to several hours. This research aims to accelerate the speed of efficiency evaluation of hybrid vehicles. We suggest a mathematical treat and a methodological treat to reduce the computational load. The mathematical treat is that the dynamics of system is discretized with sparse sampling time without loss of energy balance. The methodological treat is that the efficiency of the hybrid vehicle is inferred by characteristic loss evaluation that is computationally inexpensive. With the suggested methodology, evaluating a design candidate of hybrid powertrain system is taken few minutes, which was taken several hours when dynamic programming is used.
