Effects of electronic energy deposition on pre-existing defects in 6H-SiC

  • Silicon carbide is widely used in radiation environments due to its excellent properties. However, when exposed to the strong radiation environment constantly, plenty of defects are generated, thus causing the material performance downgrades or failures. In this paper, the two-temperature model (2T-MD) is used to explore the defect recovery process by applying the electronic energy loss (Se) on the pre-damaged system. The effects of defect concentration and the applied electronic energy loss on the defect recovery process are investigated, respectively. The results demonstrate that almost no defect recovery takes place until the defect density in the damage region or the local defect density is large enough, and the probability of defect recovery increases with the defect concentration. Additionally, the results indicate that the defect recovery induced by swift heavy ions is mainly connected with the homogeneous recombination of the carbon defects, while the probability of heterogeneous recombination is mainly dependent on the silicon defects.

Partial O-state Clamping PWM Method for Three-Level NPC Inverter with a SiC Clamp Diode

  • This paper presents the reverse recovery characteristic according to the change of switching states when Si diode and SiC diode are used as clamp diode and proposes a method to minimize the switching loss containing the reverse recovery loss in the neutral-point-clamped inverter at low modulation index. The previous papers introduce many multiple circuits replacing Si diode with SiC diode to reduce the switching loss. In the neutral-point-clamped inverter, the switching loss can be also reduced by replacing device in the clamp diode. However, the switching loss in IGBT is large and the reduced switching loss cannot be still neglected. It is expected that the reverse recovery effect can be infrequent and the switching loss can be considerably reduced by the proposed method. Therefore, it is also possible to operate the inverter at the higher frequency with the better system efficiency and reduce the volume, weight and cost of filters and heatsink. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by numerical analysis and experiment results.

A Magnetically Coupled AC/DC Boost Converter with Low Reverse Recovery and Conduction Losses

  • A modified boost converter with magnetic coupling is presented to reduce the reverse recovery loss while maintaining low conduction loss of the rectifiers. By utilizing a coupled inductor and a set of diodes, the current passing the boost rectifier is transferred to an auxiliary loop before turn-off, allowing low di/dt for reduced recovery loss. Moreover, the boost inductor is brought inside the bridge rectifier to reduce conduction loss by decreasing the number of conducting diodes during switch turn-off. Experimental results of a 500W prototype are provided to verify the increase in efficiency and validity of the proposed converter.

A Scalable Recovery Tree Construction Scheme Considering Spatial Locality of Packet Loss

  • Packet losses tend to occur during short error bursts separated by long periods of relatively error-free transmission. There is also a significant spatial correlation in loss among the receiver nodes in a multicast session. To recover packet transmission errors at the transport layer, tree-based protocols construct a logical tree for error recovery before data transmission is started. The current tree construction scheme does not scale well because it overloads the sender node. We propose a scalable recovery tree construction scheme considering these properties. Unlike the existing tree construction schemes, our scheme distributes some tasks normally handled by the sender node to specific nodes acting as repair node distributors. It also allows receiver nodes to adaptively re-select their repair node when they experience unacceptable error recovery delay. Simulation results show that our scheme constructs the logical tree with reduced message and time overhead. Our analysis also indicates that it provides fast error recovery, since it can reduce the number of additional retransmissions from its upstream repair nodes or sender node.

Load-Adaptive Address Energy Recovery Technique for Plasma Display Panel

  • A high speed address recovery technique for AC plasma display panel(PDP) is proposed. By removing the GND switching operation, the recovery speed can be increased and switching loss due to GND switch also becomes to be reduced. The proposed method is able to perform load-adaptive operation by controlling the voltage level of energy recovery capacitor, which prevents increasing inefficient power consumption caused by circuit loss during recovery operation. Thus, th e technique shows the minimum address power consumption according to various displayed images, different from prior methods operating in fixed mode regardless of images. Test results with 50' HD single- scan PDP(resolution : $1366{\times}768$) show that less than 350ns of recovery time is successfully accomplished and about $54\%$ of the maximum power consumption can be reduced, tracing minimum power consumption curves.

  • Single-phase full-bridge inverters have shoot-through problems. Dead time is an essential way of solving these issues, but it distorts the output voltage and current. Dual-buck inverters are designed to eliminate the abovementioned problems. However, these inverters result in switching power loss and electromagnetic interference due to the diode reverse-recovery problem. Previous studies have suggested reducing the switching power loss from diode reverse-recovery, but their proposed methods have complex circuit configurations and high system costs. To alleviate the switching power loss from diode reverse-recovery, the current work proposes a dual-buck inverter with a coupled inductor. In the structure of the proposed inverter, the current flowing into the original diode is divided into a new diode. Therefore, the switching power loss is reduced, and the efficiency of the proposed inverter is improved. Simulation waveforms and experimental results for a 1.0 kW prototype inverter are discussed to verify the performance of the proposed inverter.

  • To investigate the effect of Kwi Ryong Tang a precious tonic of herbal drugs, the blood of rabbit was depleted from the heart for the purpose of experiment and the author administered the Kwi Ryong Tang to that rabbit. This effect of the tonic on the experimental groups was Compared with that of the control group and the author observed the following results; 1. In the experimental group treated with Kwi Ryong Tang before the depletion of the blood, the recovery of blood, the recovery of blood loss is some what accelerated that in the control group. 2. In the experimental group treated with Kwi Ryong Tang after the depletion of the blood, the recovery of blood loss is slightly accelerated that in experimental group which was treated with Kwi Ryong Tang before the depletion of the blood. 3. In the experimental group treated with Kwi Ryong Tang before and after the depletion of the blood, the recovery of the blood loss is markedly accelerated Comparing, that in the experimental group which was treated with Kwi Ryong Tang before or after the depletion of the blood loss.

  • 지금까지 TCP (transmission control protocol)의 성능을 분석하고 예측하기 위한 많은 모델들이 제시되어 왔다. TCP의 처리율을 모델링을 통해 정확하게 분석하기 위해서는 보다 정확한 TCP의 종단간 전송 지연(latency)을 모델링하는 것이 필요한데, 이를 위해서는 손실 복구 과정에서 발생하는 지연이 필수적으로 고려되어야 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 재전송에 의해 복구되는 패킷 손실의 개수를 고려한 손실 복구 확률을 기초로 손실 복구과정에서 발생하는 지연(loss recovery latency)을 모델링을 통해 분석한다. 수학적인 분석과 시뮬레이션을 통해 선택 승인(selective acknowledgement) 옵션을 사용하는 TCP의 성능이 TCP NewReno보다 손실 복구 지연 차원에서 우월하다는 것을 보인다.

고수호안 복토공법의 토양 유실율에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Soil Loss Rate of Recovery Soil Technique at High Water Revetment)

  • 현재 우리나라 도심하천의 고수호안 설계에서는 치수적 안정성 확보를 위해 기 설치된 콘크리트 호안을 철거하는 대신에 복토 후 식생매트 공법을 통한 자연친화적인 하천공법이 널리 사용되고 있다. 그러나 이와 같은 복토공법의 적절한 수리학적 기준이 제시되지 않아 홍수기 유실로 인한 경제적 손실이 자주 발생하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 수리적 안정성을 포함한 친환경적인 식생복토공법의 유실율 평가에 관해 수리모형 실험을 통해 규명하고자 하였다. 식생의 활착 유무에 따른 복토의 유실율을 살펴보면 호안경사에 따라서 식생의 유무에 따른 유실율 차이가 52%로 나타났으며, 호안의 경사도가 클수록 식생에 의한 저감효과가 큰 것으로 연구결과 나타났다. 또한 유속 조건 및 호안의 경사에 따라서 식생이 없을 경우 유실율이 최대 19.5%로 나타났다.

중력 가속도로 인한 의식상실 감지 및 자동 회복 시스템 개발 (Development of Gravity-induced Loss of Consciousness(GLOC) Monitoring System and Automatic Recovery System)

  • For many years, many pilots lost their lives and aircrafts due to GLOC(Gravity-induced Loss Of Consciousness). Due to the emergence of high-gravity maneuvering aircraft such as the F-16, F-15 and T-50, the automatic GLOC detection and recovery systems are necessary to increase the aircraft safeties even when the pilot loses his consciousness due to high-G maneuvering. This paper addresses the design of GLOC detection, warning and recovery algorithm based on a model of supersonic jet trainer. The system is solely controlled by the pilot's control input (i.e., control stick force) and aircraft status such as attitude, airspeed, altitude and so forth. And, moreover, it does not depend upon any pilot physiological condition. The test evaluation results show that the developed system supports the recovery of an aircraft from the unusual aircraft attitude and improves the aircraft safeties even when the pilot loses his consciousness due to high-G maneuvering.
