  • Most modern adults are overweight or obese. Health services are troubling to overcome the large number of individuals in need of weight loss. Music therapy is emerging as a new option. Among various music therapy methods, it studied various treatments through Korean traditional music, and it is thought that Korean traditional music is a good therapy for diet. The present review focused on find the most useful condition for weight control by using Korean traditional music. National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts measured the dB of Korean traditional music, In the next, listen to other dB's music while eating and compared energy intake, water intake, duration of meals, number of servings, number of bites, eating rate (bites per minute), and bite size (grams). As a result of the exhibits, differences in food intake were also found in the difference of dB. 60 dB of music showed a decrease in energy intake. It suggests that Korean traditional music belonging to 60 dB brings weight loss effect. As a result, the effect of weight loss is shown by use Korean traditional music. However, future studies should be performed to reduce the energy intake by increasing the exposure period to Korean traditional music

  • In 2013, the Ministry of Environment in South Korea promulgated a new regulatory bulletin that contained revised enforcement ordinance on soil management protocols. The bulletin recommends the use of Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) for the soil erosion estimation, but USLE has limited applicability in prediction of soil erosion because it does not allow direct estimation of actual mass of soil erosion. Therefore, there is a great need of revising the protocol to allow direct comparison between the measured and estimated values of soil erosion. The Korean Soil Loss Equation (KORSLE) was developed recently and used to estimate soil loss in two fields as an alternative to existing USLE model. KORSLE was applied to estimate monthly rainfall erosivity indices as well as temporal variation in potential soil loss. The estimated potential soil loss by KORSLE was adjusted with correction factor for direct comparison with measured soil erosion. The result was reasonable since Nash-Stucliff efficiency were 0.8020 in calibration and 0.5089 in validation. The results suggest that KORSLE is an appropriate model as an alternative to USLE to predict soil erosion at field scale.

  • This study aims to recognize damage indicators of typhoon and to develop damage function's indicators, using information derived from the actual loss of typhoon Maemi. As typhoons engender significant financial damage all over the world, governments and insurance companies, local or global, develop hurricane risk assessment models and use it in quantifying, avoiding, mitigating, or transferring the risks. For the reason, it is crucial to understand the importance of the risk assessment model for typhoons, and the importance of reflecting local vulnerabilities for more advanced evaluation. Although much previous research on the economic losses associated with natural disasters has identified the risk indicators that are indispensable, more comprehensive research addressing the relationship between vulnerability and economic loss are still called for. Hence this study utilizes and analyzes the actual loss record of the typhoon Maemi provided by insurance companies to fill such gaps. In this study, natural disaster indicators and basic building information indicators are used in order to generate the vulnerability functions; and the results and indicators suggest a practical approach to create the vulnerability functions for insurance companies and administrative tasks, while reflecting the financial loss and local vulnerability of the actual buildings.

  • In this research, piezoelectric smart structures are applied for SEA(Statistical Energy Analysis), which is well known approach for high frequency analysis. A new input power measurement based on piezoelectric electrical power measurement is proposed and compared with the conventional method in SEA. As an example, a simple aluminum beam on which piezoelectric actuator is attached is considered. By measuring the electrical impedance and electrical current of the piezoelectric actuator, the electrical power given on the actuator is found and this is In turn converted into the mechanical energy. From the measured value of the stored energy of the beam, the Internal loss factor is calculated and this value shows a good agreement with that given by the conventional method as well as the theoretical value. To compare the coupling loss factor, L-shape beam system which consists of a aluminum beam subsystem and a steel beam subsystem coupled by three pin is taken as second example. The input power and stored energy of each subsystem are found by the proposed approach. The coupling loss factor found by the electrical input power obtained from the piezoelectric actuator exhibits similar trend to the value found by the conventional method as well as the theoretical value. In conclusion, the use of SEA for high frequency application of piezoelectric smart structures is Possible. Especially, the input power that is essential for SEA can be found accurately by measuring the electrical input power of the piezoelectric actuator.

  • Crowbar system Vacuum switches, widely used In a pulsed power system, could use the magnetic force to prevent the electrode damage. Vacuum switches using the magnetic forces are classified roughly into RMF(Radial Magnetic Field) and AMF(Axial Magnetic Field) type. The RMF type switches restrain a main electrode from aging due to high temperature and high density arc by rotating the arc which is driven by the Lorenz force. The AMF type switches generate axial magnetic field which decreases the electrode damage by diffusing arc. In this paper, we present the energy loss characteristics of both RMF and AMF type switches which are made of CuCr(75:25 wt%) electrodes. The time-dependent dynamic arc resistance of high-current pulsed discharge in a high vacuum chamber(~10$^{-6}$ Torr). which occurs in RMF and AMF type switches, was obtained by solving the circuit equation using the measured values of the arc voltage and current. In addition, we compared energy loss characteristics of both switches. Based on our results, it was found that the arc voltage and the energy loss of an AMF type switch are lower than a RMF type switch.

  • In the plating process of the IC chips for the printed circuit board manufacturing, specification limits for the plating thickness are usually given but its target is not specified in most cases. When the target is not specified, the center point of the specification limits is used instead. When the process capability is large, however, the use of the center point for the target is not the best choice in the context of the total cost. In this paper, the total cost is defined in terms of the production cost and the loss function, and then the optimal choice for target is studied in order to minimize the expected loss. As a consequence, the optimal choice of the target reduces the expected loss significantly, while reducing the process capability slightly.

  • Simple spanwise distribution models of deviation angle and pressure loss coefficient due to the tip leakage flow are formulated for use in association with the streamline curvature method as a flow analysis. Combining these new models with the previous deviation and loss models due to secondary flow, a robust streamline curvature method is established for flow analysis of single-stage, subsonic axial turbines with wide ranges of turning angle, aspect ratio and blading type. At the exit from rotor rows, the flow variables are mixed radially according to a spanwise transport equation. The proposed streamline curvature method is tested against a forced vortex type turbine as well as a free vortex type one. The results show that the spanwise variations of flow angle, axial velocity and loss coefficients at rotor exit are predicted with good accuracy, being comparable to a steady three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis. This simple and fast flow analysis is found to be very useful for the turbine design at the initial design phase.

  • The growing trend of cyber risk has put forward the importance of cyber risk management. Cyber risk is defined as an accidental or intentional risk related to information and technology assets. Although cyber risk is a subset of operational risk, it is reported to be handled differently from operational risk due to its different features of the loss distribution. In this study, we aim to detect the characteristics of cyber loss and find a suitable model by measuring value at risk (VaR). We use the loss distribution approach (LDA) and the time series model to describe cyber losses of financial and non-financial business sectors, provided in SAS® OpRisk Global Data. Peaks over threshold (POT) method is also incorporated to improve the risk measurement. For the financial sector, the LDA and GARCH model with POT perform better than those without POT, respectively. The same result is obtained for the non-financial sector, although the differences are not significant. We also build a two-dimensional model reflecting the dependence structure between financial and non-financial sectors through a bivariate copula and check the model adequacy through VaR.

  • Recently, as the use of wireless communication devices has increased, the wireless network usage has increased, and a wired network and a wireless network have been mixed to form a network. Existing TCP algorithms are designed for wired networks. Therefore, in the modern network environment, packet loss can not be accurately distinguished and improper congestion control is performed, resulting in degradation of TCP performance. In this paper, we propose SLDA (Support Vector Machine based Loss Discrimination Algorithm) which can accurately classify the packet loss environment to improve TCP performance and evaluate its performance.

  • This experimental work was conducted in order to find out the optimum time of harvest of Japonica-type (Akibare) and Indica-type(Tong-il) rice variety for three harvesting systems by investigating the harvesting losses and milling quality. The study was also concerned about the nature and amount of grain losses incurred during the each sequence of post-harvest technologies, and based on these result, a modification of existing systems giving a minimum grain loss was attempted. Binder, combine, and traditional systems were tested in this study and five grain moisture levels were disposed according to the decrease of grain moisture . The results are summarized as follows ; 1. The total losses of Akibare variety were ranged from 1.1 to 1.5 per cent for the traditional harvesting system , 2.1 to 4.8 per cent for the harvesting system by use of binder, and 2.8 to 4.3 per cent for the harvesting system by use of combine as the grain moisture content was reduced from 24 to 15 percent. Milling recovery of the harvesting system by use of binder, 74.8 ∼75.7 percent, was a little higher as it was compared to that of traditional harvesting system, 74.3 ∼75.0per cent, and that of the harvesting system by use of combine, 73.8 ∼75.0 per cent. Head rice recovery of mechanically dried paddy samples was higher than that of sun-dried paddy samples. 2. The total losses of Tong-il variety were ranged from 3.8 to 5.0 per cent for the traditional harvesting system, 5.2 to 10.0 percent for the system by use of binder, and 3.0 to 5.0 per cent for the system by use of combine as the grain moisture was reduced from 28 to 16 per cent. 3. Milling recovery of Tong-il variety harvested by the traditional harvesting system was 72.3 ∼73.6 percent and it was lower when compared to that of 72.3∼75.0 per cent harvested by binder, and 73.0∼74.6 percent harvested by combine. 4. Head rice recovery of Tong-il variety harvested by the traditional harvesting system (58.
